- Getting the spare tire out from under the bed is a necessity with Colorado ZR2s. The spare hangs far too low and decreases departure angles. This 589 relocation kit allows it to move up and out of the way into the bed.
In addition, the kit doesn't take up a ton of bed space like other kits. It's easy to install and looks great, check out the link below. More ZR2 Duramax content coming on the channel!

It goes up a touch high. I have a retractable bed cover.
I was going to keep the tire under for street use and put it in the bed when I go play, leaving the mount in the bed.
I just ordered their rear shock protection skid kit.
That makes sense. I’m deciding if I want a bed cover or not. Might modify it to fit around the tire.
Looks great. I wonder if I can mount the bracket on an angle along the side and back so the tire will sit below my bed cover
You can rotate it 90 degrees but it has to be straight one way or the other.
It seems like a great setup. You made the install look easy. That seems like it would obstruct too much view for anyone who ups their tire size
I'll be upping my size in the near future and will report back! So far, it hasn't bothered or hindered my driving at all, mainly because it's on the driver's side and I can't see directly behind me anyway.
Does the tire wobble or bounce against the front bed wall when driving or going over bumps? Was planning on doing the install this weekend and I was wondering if I will need to rig up another anchor point in order to stop it from banging against the bed rail right behind my head.
Nope it was very tight.
Cool set up! I'm curious do you recommend some sort of lock just in case it walks away?
I've been meaning to get a bicycle lock or something, but haven't yet.
Can it secure a 24x14? I’m always scared I’m gonna get a flat at the mall.
No one would steal that just lay it in the bed.
Hey man, I found your page/video through the review section on 589 website. Great install. Question, do you think this would have a correct fit on a 2018 gmc Sierra? I’m running 34” tires but the site says it’s only for canyon/Colorado’s. Thanks in advance!
Hrm, good question. I'm guessing it would work, but Idk for sure.
Looks good! Is there a way to lock the tire on?
Could run a bicycle lock around the wheel and the mount easily.
They might steal it when its parked at the mall. 😆
Haven't yet! lol
Kind of topic, but I was wondering if it's safe to drill through zr2's bed? I'm installing DenyLocks to keep the yeti from rolling around my truck bed, but it requires drilling. Do you think its fine? Thanks
I don't see why not. It appears as thick as any other truck bed I've been around. I'm not sure what DenyLocks are though.
@@matt13ross Because I read online that some people state to be very careful when drilling into the bed because you never know what parts could be damaged in the spot where you are drilljng
Oh yes. there are probably some wires tucked in there somewhere.
@@matt13ross would you say its safe to drill on the far left and right corner of the bed in order to attach the yeti coolers ? Sorry for asking i just want to make sure to do eevrything right.
I can’t say for sure. Maybe try looking up under the bed first and check for wires.
here's my only question....instead of drilling holes all over your bed, why didn't you just use the 2 eye-hooks on the sides of the bed to hook the ratchet strap onto for securing the tire? the bracket really only provides a mounting point to hook the strap to, but you already had that with the two eye-hooks
Using just the existing eye hooks won’t provide a secure mount. The tire mount is designed to have the ratchet strap contact a lot of the tire, providing a lot of grip. You gotta ratchet it super tight too. I bet you’d break the eye hooks with this much pressure.
Hey how’s it going we’re did you get your rivet tool set?
Which one?
@@matt13ross the one you were using to mount up the tire holder into the bed
I didn't use a rivet tool. I just used an impact gun with the supplied nuts/bolts to draw the rivnut tight.
Not the brush on the paint lol
I like this tire mount but are you worried about someone stealing the tire?
Yes, depending where I park. Could run a bicycle cable lock through it.
@@matt13ross shoot, I would for sure.
I always think about it, but I keep forgetting to get a lock. Luckily I park in a garage at home.
@@matt13ross awe perfect, yeah I’d forget too lol
"Takes 30 seconds to pull the tire out..."
Nice carrier, but NO anti-theft protection?

I’ll probably put some type of cable lock on there.
@@matt13ross Good idea, especially since the strap can be cut with a knife (no need to undo the ratchet). :-(
Still, I'd think the manufacturer should have designed some kind of security device.
Unless the "still not out yet" Ford Bronco is "better" (for me, but can't do any comparison yet with almost zero info/specs released) than the ZR2, I'll be getting one myself...likely in March 2021 (in Sand Dune Metallic color probably).

Or maybe people should just not steal sh!t!
Love the look but can’t imagine not having a Bed cover to keep things dry.
My other truck has a tonneau cover. I do like them but don’t need one on both trucks.

oh man your wash method sent chills up my spine.... you are on CZcams watch a how to video on it please
Lol
Leaving your spare tire at home because you need bed space is just flat out dumb.
I mean, I don’t even have a spare on my other truck.
