  • Getting the spare tire out from under the bed is a necessity with Colorado ZR2s. The spare hangs far too low and decreases departure angles. This 589 relocation kit allows it to move up and out of the way into the bed.
    In addition, the kit doesn't take up a ton of bed space like other kits. It's easy to install and looks great, check out the link below. More ZR2 Duramax content coming on the channel!

    It goes up a touch high. I have a retractable bed cover.
    I was going to keep the tire under for street use and put it in the bed when I go play, leaving the mount in the bed.
    I just ordered their rear shock protection skid kit.

      That makes sense. I’m deciding if I want a bed cover or not. Might modify it to fit around the tire.

    Looks great. I wonder if I can mount the bracket on an angle along the side and back so the tire will sit below my bed cover

      @matt13ross  Před 3 lety +2

      You can rotate it 90 degrees but it has to be straight one way or the other.

    It seems like a great setup. You made the install look easy. That seems like it would obstruct too much view for anyone who ups their tire size

      @matt13ross  Před 3 lety

      I'll be upping my size in the near future and will report back! So far, it hasn't bothered or hindered my driving at all, mainly because it's on the driver's side and I can't see directly behind me anyway.

    Does the tire wobble or bounce against the front bed wall when driving or going over bumps? Was planning on doing the install this weekend and I was wondering if I will need to rig up another anchor point in order to stop it from banging against the bed rail right behind my head.

    Hey man, I found your page/video through the review section on 589 website. Great install. Question, do you think this would have a correct fit on a 2018 gmc Sierra? I’m running 34” tires but the site says it’s only for canyon/Colorado’s. Thanks in advance!

    Kind of topic, but I was wondering if it's safe to drill through zr2's bed? I'm installing DenyLocks to keep the yeti from rolling around my truck bed, but it requires drilling. Do you think its fine? Thanks

    • @matt13ross
      @matt13ross  Před 2 lety

      I don't see why not. It appears as thick as any other truck bed I've been around. I'm not sure what DenyLocks are though.

  • @omgbbqcia911
    @omgbbqcia911 Před 3 lety

    here's my only question....instead of drilling holes all over your bed, why didn't you just use the 2 eye-hooks on the sides of the bed to hook the ratchet strap onto for securing the tire? the bracket really only provides a mounting point to hook the strap to, but you already had that with the two eye-hooks

    • @matt13ross
      @matt13ross  Před 3 lety

      Using just the existing eye hooks won’t provide a secure mount. The tire mount is designed to have the ratchet strap contact a lot of the tire, providing a lot of grip. You gotta ratchet it super tight too. I bet you’d break the eye hooks with this much pressure.

      @@matt13ross Good idea, especially since the strap can be cut with a knife (no need to undo the ratchet). :-(
      Still, I'd think the manufacturer should have designed some kind of security device.
      Unless the "still not out yet" Ford Bronco is "better" (for me, but can't do any comparison yet with almost zero info/specs released) than the ZR2, I'll be getting one myself...likely in March 2021 (in Sand Dune Metallic color probably).
