    This movie premise has made me really uncomfortable from the start. Not only are they painting a murderer as innocent for the sake of a horror movie, but if the perpetrator actually believed he had been possessed it’s just exploiting a tragic case of severe mental health issues along with the murder. It didn’t have to be based on a true story :/

    • @UnderTheTableGremlin
      @UnderTheTableGremlin Před 3 lety +131

      @creativedesignation7880 Před 2 lety +49

      @@UnderTheTableGremlin There is a theory that some cases of "possesion" might have actually been people unable to control some of their actions, because they had dissociative identity disorder. This would also explain why exorcisms, which are usually really just torture assisted by a loved one, would "cure" the person: the intense trauma simply had them dissociate even further and in the worst case split off a new personality (alter) who was entirely submissive, in order to protect themselves from further harm.

    • @smallandstressed2364
      @smallandstressed2364 Před 2 lety +51

      @@creativedesignation7880 - to clarify: people with DID aren’t likely to murder people, but what someone might mistake as “possession” could just be an alter and an “exorcism” could cause a trauma response that makes them more submissive.
      The context of this thread has something to do with murder and I just wanted to make sure people don’t think that an alter would commit murder. Aside from that, that theory is rather interesting.

So yeah, the people in these movies should either all be dead due to all the twisting and contorsions they're put through, or not be able to move for at least an entire month; with a whole lot of broken bones and/or muscle strains.

The first two movies were fine because no one died in those, but there was an actual victim here. Even if they changed his name, they didn't change any of the other names. This is a movie about how Arne Johnson was possessed by a demon so it wasn't his fault that he killed a guy. In real life it was his fault. I think they should've picked another Warren case to base this off of, or if they really wanted to do this case they could've done a 100% fictional version of it and make all the characters original. The movie they did do was already 99% fictional anyway.

She has no real motivations and we feel nothing when she kills her father or when she dies. She doesn't even get a moment of fear before she dies. Her motivation is literally just because she's evil and evil doesn't need a reason which really bothered me. She was there for basically no reason. The story was rough all the way through. Sure in my opinion the film looked good and the acting was fine but those can't carry a story alone.

    Problems with this movie:
    1) The occult stuff was never really explained, there was no motivation for why Isla did what she did.
    2) The overly cheesy stuff with the Warrens, I mean it was there but honestly it was so cliché that it would tie in to like possession internal fight and remembering who you are moment.
    3) They should have really made it clear on the lover, child and holy man. I guess Isla killed her Father for the holy man bit, but then the rules were that it had to be a murder suicide, which made no sense because if the whole curse thing worked, who was going to be the suicide for the holy man?
    4) Ed going blind again in the climax. I mean he did it in The Conjuring 2, its been done.
    5) Lorraine having that whole headache vision at the beginning when everything was going nuts.
    6) The Priest getting hit over the head with the plate and getting knocked the hell out, that was by far one of the funniest moments.
