    For the con about not having numbered posts... Can you just use the bar as a guide? Move the bar down to about 1 notch above the lowest position of the movement and just raise the safety stoppers up to match the bar. Then just move the bar back up to the height you need it at. This way ya never need to count the holes.

    Had the IM2000 for around 18 month, nice and compact, the smith bar is one of the best I've used, also had the leg press attachment, which was very good and felt a lot safer in use than the Force USA G6 attachment I have now, the single best thing I miss from my setup was the chin up attachment, it allows you to configure it to different widths and angles, I didn't like lat pulldowns on it, it put a strain on my lower back, but the chin up bar was so good that I didn't miss doing pulldowns, had the lock-in post that allows you to connect the preacher pad for cable preachers, didn't mind that the lockout holes were not numbered, just did as you mentioned and counted them, the fact that there are so many lockout holes means that you can set the perfect hight for the safeties regardless of the bench you use, plate storage was nice and helps to make the unit stable, the fact that you can lock the smith bar in place makes it handy for using it to hold your legs in place when doing Hypers or roman chair lower back work, nive video and review, how is the DC training going?

      I came from the im2000. I also now have the forceusa g6. I do miss the im2000. It was actually more heavy duty . Meaning they use thicker gauge steel. You notice how light and thin the uprights are on the g6 when compared to the im2000 uprights? Both do have thier strengths.

    • @williamaustin6132
      @williamaustin6132 Před 2 lety +1

      @@DoritosResidue Yes the front uprights are made of thinner metal than you would expect, and that did give me cause for concern, however, I've had mine now for 14 months, I've done cable mid row with the pulley set to around the middle of the front upright, added a lot of extra weight via a GymPin, used the safeties and used the dip bars, week in and week out for over a year, those front uprights have not bent or moved, I also had a set of the Force USA Jammer arms which fit this for a few months before getting a PT Multipress.
      I do think that the G6 is well built and very robust, I prefer the smith bar on the G6 over the IM2000, because on the G6 you can see the lockout hook when you've completed your set, whereas with the IM2000 you can't, also locking out on the IM2000 bar requires you to rotate the bar forwards rather than back as with the G6, IMO this puts your wrists in a weaker position when locking the bar.
      Also the front uprights on the IM2000 are only held in place by a single bolt in the end of each upright with no compressive force holding them in place, the uprights hold both the smith bar and the lockout points, there is no backup in the event of a bolt breaking, whereas with the G6 the smith bar is on a separate upright to the lockout points, so there is no single point of failure.

    • @DoritosResidue
      @DoritosResidue Před 2 lety

      @@williamaustin6132 ah I have the bare steel version of the gym pin which has magnets. It works great! I do have the gym pin d bar handle and love that thing.
      I never had a problem with the im2000 locking points. No matter what I was able to land in a locking hole because there are so many of them. But because the g6 smith bar is fixed with no play and linear ball bearing it feels smoother than the im2000.
      I do feel there not enough locking points on the g6 uprights because I mostly do freeweight barbell work. Its either a tad too high or too short.
      I did hate there no numbers on the im 2000 but I did mark it with a black sharpie . I had the older version with the chrome finished uprights instead of the black ones they use now. I could see why the single bolt on the im2000 could be a concern especially because it goes straight up from the bottom. There is no spot for the uprights to actually rest on and just held by a single bolt and tension. I had that bolt get loose which caused the uprights to slide around. So I had to kinda take it apart just to tighten that bolt. Which was a hassle.
      For the g6 I had to buy titan fitness j hooks and spotter arms. The ones that they came with are absolute trash. The g6 stock j hooks are too square and easily hit my bar on the way up. And that damn bolt messes up my bar when re racking the bar. Spotter arms are too short. I actually dropped weight on me (ouch) when benching because my wrists rolled foward. I was using fatgripz so the bar spun within them.The spotter arms weren't long enough to catch. If it fell straight down they would have saved me. I did have to tweak the titan fitness jcups and spotter arms with some uhmw tape to make it fit flush on the g6 uprights.
      Also the guide rails for the weight stacks on the g6 travel up along with the weight stack and hit the top. They just kinda sit in between the top and bottom holes with no way to secure them.That got really annoying so I wrapped the top of the guide rails with uhmw tape and totally mitigated the issue. I also had the hoist v6 functional trainer and the guide rails actually had threads on the the bottom of each one so you had to screw them in. They were solid steel and not hollow like the g6 uprights.

    • @williamaustin6132
      @williamaustin6132 Před 2 lety

      @@DoritosResidue The weight stack guide rods don't move on mine, it did however take some tinkering with the pulleys to get them to run smooth and free, I clean down the cables, rods and the smith guide posts every 2 month and apply silicone to keep everything clean and running smooth.
      I also put duck tape on the inside of all the post attachments to protected them, don't like metal on metal, plus they fit more snug.
      I don't think that the G6 or the IM2000 are aimed at hardcore lifters who throws weight around, they provide a solution for someone with limited space, the G6 is almost twice the price of the IM2000 (in the UK), if you factor in the IM attachments to level things up, but the G6 does give you more functionality, just not twice as much.

    Saw the boxes for the leg and crunch attachments, are you going to do a review of those? I have an IM 500 and recently bought the Pro bench, leg extension, j-cups, and spotter arms. And more recently bought some silicon spray as it's starting to stick. I think the j-cups and arms caused this as I haven't sprayed this in at least 10 years and it's only recently started. Not sure if you know this, but just in case you don't, you should have your feet out more for the squat so that your back is vertical. Vertical smiths are good for those who want to squat and have back issues or if you're looking to isolate the quads more. No calf block or leg press :)? Thanks for the tip. Just compared IM2K to the FSUAG3. Close call. Decided on IM2K for two reasons: (1) size; and (2) the FUsAG3, IMO, has too many cables to monkey with; that may stretch; and pulleys that can themselves have an assortment of malfunctions. I like that I can do "most" of those same exercises with just the two pulleys. For the others, I'm sure I can come up with an improvised solution.

With the exception of the ironmaster super bench pro they haven't seemed to update any other of their equipment in a generation. The pandemic gave them a huge boost like every other fitness company and now is the time to update some of the classics. For example they should make a more standard upright size such as 2x3 or 3x3 so you can use lots of different attachments.

      @@HomeGymHacksandReviews they definitely can work on it just fine, seen some guy benching like 405 on it in some clip on here, I think my main gripes as a big guy would be based around the squat (probably would hit my head on the smith bar unracking the bar and the safety spotter arms are fairly short, like the Powertec safety spotter arms)
      But as a machine to train everything in some capacity, it's so versatile, nice to see the belt squat demo too, that would be one of the reasons I'd buy it if I had the room (incline smith presses are one of my favourite exercises too)

      I hope Powertec and others increase the length of the safety spotter arms; however, I guess their thought is: the longer the spotter arms, the greater the chance of flipping the rack if the bar is at the end of the arm and if the rack is not bolted / weighed down.

    Do the springs on the safeties compress? From a safety standpoint, it appears the top of the metal the spring sits on would be the point you would need to set to ensure someone doesn't potentially get caught under the bar vs the top of the spring.

    • @HomeGymHacksandReviews
      @HomeGymHacksandReviews  Před 2 lety

      The springs compress ever so slightly. They are very heavy duty. I don’t have any safety concerns when using the machine. The lockout points are so close together that, if for whatever reason, the safety setting wasn’t adjusted correctly, I can quickly turn the bar to lock it in place. There is always the option to leave the springs off the slide rails when putting it together.

    The ironmaster leg press plate - how do you do a hack squat and or the leg press? I have seen the bench on a angle under the IM with the leg press plate. This looks like it is more centric on the top of the foot pressing the plate because of the angle. Thoughts?

    • @HomeGymHacksandReviews
      @HomeGymHacksandReviews  Před 2 lety

      I have an IM 2000 Leg Day Training video on YT where I show how it is attached and show it for calf raises. It’s not meant for hack squats, but it’s basically a vertical leg press. In order to engage the weight, the safeties must be moved down to start the set and then returned at the end of the set. I really cant use it for leg presses because the IM 2000 slides on my hardwood floors during that exercise and I’ve never been a huge fan of a vertical leg press.

I’ve had 3 Powertec Smith Machines, I’ve used a few Cybex and Life Fitness models (and a few other brands), and while the IM 2000 is not commercial rated, I like it better than any commercial Smith I’ve used because it is smoother, quieter, and has more lock out points. Question; on the low pulley, have you ever tried a glute kickback? It seems like it may be awkward due to the position. If not I assume with how long the bar can reach on the smith that you can just do a glute kickback on that. (trying to convince my fiancé lol)

      lol! The ol’ glute kickback, the deciding exercise for a piece of equipment 😂
      You are right, it could be a little tricky on the pulley bc the bar travels up and along the slide rails, so you can’t hold onto the IM 2000. However, there is always a way. Position the bench just right and hold on there. You could always perform the exercise from the ground kneeling and then like your performing a karate kick. Also, it may be difficult because the 1:1 pulley ratio and the weight of the bar. For example, I can’t do a 1 arm lateral raise with the weight of the bar. Instead I have to rig something up on the hook.
