I could drive a V8 Range Rover from Japan to UK using one tank of fuel, with a bit of help of a ship or a cargo plane...
and 30 different mechanics
Or you can make up that distance by driving from your house to the mechanic continuously.
This is the reason you dont have V8 range rover
@@spencer9352 You dropped your crown
Stay tuned next week while I drive my car from San Diego to Honolulu.
hmm so african part was what.. 13seconds of drive? Nice ''challange''
Its from Southern Spain to UK...
Morocco is Africa..
luxas_s Yes but he didn’t actually drive in Morocco, he just took a ferry to Spain...
Luka Lazarevic how much cost for TOLL gates in total.?
Africa to UK sounds better
@@xxxxx4381 You know that's the continent of Africa, right?
Are the miles you travel by boat also included in the 1223 miles ? Because what the car actually does is drive from the South of Spain to the UK. A bit misleading don't you think ... (ok the strait of Gibraltar is only 9 miles but, you get the point)
Still 1194 miles lmao
It drives from the South of Spain to Normandy in France really as you can see in 0:47 to 0:49
Now try it with a E63 :)

It drives from the South of Spain to Normandy in France really as you can see in 0:47 to 0:49
Wdym I'm Moroccan and I always drive from the UK to Morocco it's possible
On arrival the speedometer showed that a distance of 1,968 kilometres had been covered - and the fuel gauge still showed that there was enough fuel left over for around a further 160 kilometres. The total range of the hybrid vehicle, which is available as an option with an 80-litre diesel tank, can therefore be calculated at some 2,129 kilometres.
@UCXTdncPZXahcbwfbDUSEW8g 10 years ago a diesel vw passat did 1600+ miles.. was that a scam too for you..the engines were not as efficient as today
Which is a lie, they refueled along the way. After so many years of having these cars, we know it as fact and how much worse the mileage is, especially in long road trips. These hybrid and electric cars are only good in city driving. Thanks for falling for the propaganda
I see what you did there Mercedes, setting off from Gibraltar in Europe would've been pretty much the same, but just put it one ferry ride away and you get to say it's an intercontinental journey.
It drives from the South of Spain to Normandy in France really as you can see in 0:47 to 0:49
Lol these have an 80 litre fuel tanks! So it averaged 69 mpg. I think Honda did something similar with a diesel civic and averaged over 100 mpg.
4L/ 100Km, is very good for the weight of the car. This gives a saving of 2L/ 100Km. In 100.000Km are 2000L of fuel. At today's prices are about 3000€. That should enough to replace the batteries ... ?!
*Misleading title !!! It's 1224 miles from Africa to the UK.*
Yeah but that extra mile. it would have run outta fuel. lol
He is still a performance driver at heart and probably cut every corner on the way.
MrPanohead I love this comment Bro !!! hahaha :D
Damn the speed limit, I did 1000 miles in 16 hours
terrible review. mpg? did it run out of fuel? how much longer could you go? was the AC on? AVG speed? how many stops? driving time?
+leozdnbr Well for 6 minutes of video, what do you expect? TopSpeed did an excellent review of the entire trip, including statistics -- found with a simple google search. I recommend it.
He tells you most of this information at the end of the video, and I'm guessing that it didn't run out of fuel because it showed the car driving in and parking up at goodwood! Did you even watch the video?
+leozdnbr Watch the video, they say all of that
It proves that Mercedes doesn't lie about all these unbelievable fuel economy numbers :)
Ofcourse it was driven very gingerly to make the most of every drop of fuel. If you drive a normal diesel with a decent tank (520d for instance) like this you would get pretty close to this range.
MrPanohead Yeah he did admit that he drove at 56mph. Kinda boring since it will feel like he's walking with a car so stable
DO NOT BE FOOLED BY THIS VIDEO PEOPLE , I HAVE BEEN THERE AND AGREED A BIG FINANCE DEAL WITH MERCEDES BENZ AND NOT WORTH
PAYING 43K AS WHAT EVER THEY CLAIM IT WILL NOT BE POSSIBLE WHEN YOU DRIVE IN LONDON TOWN. I AM A LONDON EXECUTIVE CHAUFFEUR I THOUGHT I WOULD SAVE £££ ON FUEL BUT THIS VIDEO IS A SCAM TO SELL THIS CAR ! I DONT SAVE MONEY AT ALL ! I SPEND ALMOST 20 POUND EVERY DAY AND IT IS SAME AS MY OTHER 2010 E250 AVANGARDE MODEL WITH AUTOMATIC GEARBOX. IT DOES NOT SAVE ME MONEY EVEN I GO VERY SMOOTH AND GENTLE I AM LOOSING HELL LOTS OF MONEY ON KEEP BUYING SAME AMOUNT OF FUEL EVERY DAY. I AM TOO DISSAPOINTED. MERCEDES BENZ 2014 E300 HYBRID HAS SAME FUEL CONSUMPTION WITH 2010 E250 MODEL. I REGRET EVERY MINUTE AND I HAVE TO PAY THIS LIAR COMPANY WHO CLAIM COMBINED MPG IS 67.2 IS A BIG LIE ! I NEVER GOT THIS FIGURE EVEN ONCE !
Hediye Bedir London driving is city driving. Stop start requires more fuel.
How much did you pay for the car? Did you lease or finance pet month?
Hediye Bedir Dude, city driving will always return low mpg. I drove many automatics starting from new Mini's, BMW's on super old Kia Pride ending and truth is that short distance, cold engine, lots of red lights ends up in poor range. If You want a significant change in fuel consumption than You would need much difrent car.
In advance. Yes, I know You can't CHAUFFEUR around in shopping cart.
No I don't say that e300 is any good
Yes I am mainly a motocyclist but I do work as a messenger on my bike in Warsaw.
Very impressive, knowing already diesels are the better option for longer journeys anyway, but one question. How much more does it cost to buy this hybrid compared to a normal diesel, and how much money are you in fact saving buying the hybrid, and filling up less, than filling up more, but spending less in the long term?
So much fuel was left in the tank at the end? and
how much further could the car have gone?
my thought exactly..6 years later, still unanswered..
There was not much left in the tank as it's shown in the video in cutout. The car was almost empty way before entering goodwood so it's easy to imagine it made it in fumes at the end. It probably will drive for another 3 4 miles.
"Can you drive from Africa to the UK on a single tank of fuel? The answer is yes"
Well, you could just have done the math. This video was pretty bad.
I drove from Gibraltar to the UK in an old MX5 and stopped many times for fuel.
Measured in Smiles Per Gallon😁
worst roadtrip review ever!!!
Ardalan Shabestari you conveniently have a BMW as your profile picture
Nice Mercedes commercial.
I watched this car yesterday at Goodwood, still with all the dirt on it! Very impressive! Also I would love to know what range was left when they arrived.
What's the point in starting in Africa if the car is just going to sit on a boat all the way to Spain? Why not just start in Spain? How many km did they even drive in Africa from the pump to the ferry?
Because Africa to UK sounds a lot more impressive than Continental Europe to UK. XD
Good comment i agree
......and I bet that Mercedes was just as standard as the Jaguar that Jeremy Clarkson drove from Switzerland to Blackpool on one tank of fuel. Jaguar put a lot of work into preparing their car, blueprinting the engine, using high mileage but good condition gearbox and rear differential, carefully "lapped" in, changing the rake of the car to more nose down, low rolling resistance tyres, special brake calliper seals that pulled the pads back from the discs, when not in use and so on and so on.
Oooh i didn't know this
Since Gilbraltar is part of the UK, could have stopped after the ferry ride
This guy has the best job in the world! Drive from Africa to England man imagine the land marks through all the way.
May not be the most scientific test ever but it does prove the car is really efficient, especially for its weight.
You know you're british when you can't visualise the amount of fuel he will use. But as soon as he mentioned "half a barrel of beer" you instantly can ahaa.
gee, if that ferry were a standard transporter, you could sail around the horn, turn north and get off in Canada with a full tank left, just as you did at Gibraltar, which I thought was Brigid
Whoa so much excitement man! Gotta tune it down a bit.
Should do a tutorial on how to make an epic road trip boring as hell!
Yep. That trip must have been excruciating. Over 1000 miles at the speed limit; I'm amazed he stayed awake.
Hahahahahahaha!
jeebus2121 Below the speed limit. Far below (about 20-22 mph)
Top of Gear plathead
"Amazing Adventure" lol!
if this car is real and it really does 1223 miles on one tank, i'll definitely buy this car in the future.
It would be more impressive if it could drive from South Africa to the UK on one tank. That would be outstanding. Maybe it will happen one day :)
Supertecnoboff Just build a bigger tank, when it can be done.
So how much further could you have gone on remaining fuel + any fumes circulating in the pipes ? They need to repeat this with the petrol version.
You can get a hummer with just 1 liter of fuel to Gibraltar and let it on the ferry to Morocco.
Challenge done
Why's it called AFRICA to UK, why didn't they just call it Spain to UK, in Morocco all he did was drive it on the ferry and that's it!
sir that is impressive engineering. is that the first diesel hybrid, all others I've seen have been petrol hybrids.
fascinated by how far diesel can go just amazing
and a 3 liter engine
christopher cobham it's a 2.1 ltr :)
How much fuel was left in the tank?
Technically..he didn't get from Africa to the UK on one tank of fuel as the car is a hybrid. Meaning he also used electrical power which can be re-generated by braking.
We could of also at-least more information on this challenge too.
Quite poor.
this is what we need, people driving this kind of cars on the road so we can save the fuel to motorracing..
what a bullshit.... 1224 miles, they say, but some are made in two crossing boats!!!
Last I checked, cars couldn't be driven on water.
xxM1lhous3xx Have you tested your own car?)))

Last wednesday I drove 680 km on my fiat500 diesel and made 3.5 ave, in a total of 21 l, costing me 30€. Thats what I call eco!
Tiago Ruivo Yeah but 0 power ;)
This E300 has plenty of power (over 300HP combined i think) but you can make at least 1400km not 2000km like in this video, because let`s face it, you will be punching sometimes. This is what i call eco and sporty in the same time :D
It is a nice car...
1 - go to google maps and make a trip from tangier to goodwood.
2 - remove the distance travelled on the ferry.
3 - regret your comment.
Great video . Greetings from 🇬🇧 London.
What is the soundtrack at the end of the trip? Thanks in advance!
I've driven from tangier malabata to west London using 1.5 tanks of fuel
I could do that in a Ferrari with 5 mpg too, just take the ferry the whole way back to the UK xD
I just drive from dc to Connecticut on one tank in an e250 blutec diesel 4wd 2014... was 688 miles. I still has about 35 on the range left. Had some stop and go traffic... about ,50% was radar cruise with semi autonomous steering also
Driving 1223 miles a an all-gasoline or diesel car would be a lot more impressive, and it is actually quite achievable. Just ask the major oil companies (yeah..those who sell us the fuel) if they have not shelved technology that would have allowed cars to do that over 60 years ago.
I think a lot of that country's people have the same idea as the slogan on the car. Just minus the one tank of fuel part.
Title should be from Morocco to the UK on one tank of fuel.
that's right mate they always think Africa is a country, in this case they should say from Africa to Europe or Morocco to UK
they can test the car only in morocco from north to south is 2525km
It's really just covering Spain and France. When I first saw the title the first thing that came to mind was they would cover the entire African continent...Obviously never gonna happen.
Tim Lucas
Totally agree, in this case even Morocco doesn't count. Would be more fair to say Algeciras > Goodwood. Now try to start from Agadir for example haha
yes but then we wouldn't be here :P
Mercedes forever !
How big is the tank my 1.6 diesel Astra has a 55 litre tank and it can manage 750 miles on one full tank 🤔
Still has a tractor like 4 cylinder diesel engine, it feels ancient compared to competitors equivalent engines...
i wouldn’t mind renting one of these and going to spain or italy
Thats pretty amazing. I wander if he turned things like climate control off too? Don't little things like that actually make a big difference in a test like this?
If you would to drive normally and not economically you could probably get at least 800 miles or so
How big is the tank?
59 liters
This just shows why Mercedes-Benz is always on the league. The best or nothing !
i thought you said: the best of nothing. Haha, i personally drive a mercedes, and i'm very satisfied with it.
Next challenge: Getting from the Good ol' Down Undah' Austrailia to Yeehaw States of America with one tank of fuel(and a little help from air cargo)
Lets now see a prius do that.
Tangier to europe in one tank? Thats a drug runner's dream car lol
That's 5mins I'll never get back.
can you drive from the southern coast of Spain to the northern coast of France on one tank of fuel?
What is the tune from 4:03?
hp of this car?
Not that impressive my 14yr old Octavia went 800miles on a tank averaging around 65mpg on holiday last summer. 3up with a lot of camping gear around Yorkshire.
Andrew's tweet brought me here 😊
I smell Jeremy, Richard and James.
That's awesome!
Do they really use a ferry or they drove over a bridge to UK?
what's the name of the music??
btw that was north africa .if you buy a car in african countries like algeria the hybrid battery won't last for a day
because it's hot as hell 41°c in the summer .
Man, it would have been really hard to drive all that Km's with a right hand car on left hand cars traffic.
Could anybody possibly tell me the music from about 4:03 onwards? SoundHound isn't interested. :(
+Sam Harper Did you find out what it is?
Just use shazam
the title is misleading. Tangiers is only 14 km from Europe. that's the closest African city to Europe. Besides, did they have to show the desert to prove that this is really Africa. Tangiers is a coastal city with a lot of forests and contains no dunes. You could've simply said 1200 mile with one tank. That would've been more realistic.
Thats pretty damn kool
Does anyone know the name of the song that's playing between 4:00 and 5:00? No luck with Shazam
It is impressive but I think most modern cars would match this, it is mainly motorway driving after all
Sure the other manufacturers make equivalents - just a massive sponsorship article from MB. The MB font gives it away.
amazing!
Need this motor car in the U.S.!!
From Berlin to Warsaw in one tank
When fuel is too expensive in the UK so you have to drive to another continent:
If you spent all of the fuel in the tank, that gives a average fuel consumption of:
~3 L/100 km.
Hmmm.....
clarkson's round trip from london to edinburgh and back was way way more entertaining. perhaps let mat watson drive the next time.
The most my car can do is 300 miles per tank
i dont even get 400 miles from a full tank fml
I bet i could drive a nissan leaf from south africa to vladivostok on one charge, with a little help of a ship
Impresive ..thats a big car doing great mpg ...a tesla would have done it in 5 days !!
Hahahhahha, not true.. but ur comment is pretty old
@@ZirixNightcore ok so how would a tesla p100d in AFRICA where’s there’s no charging point yh that just BULL and have you owned a tesla it’s awful cheap plastic unreliable

he drove the whole time at a constant 56mph without ever stopping thats why :'3
+kr15hi333 sponsored by mercedes its fake pretty obvious.
And the tank have 1223 litres to.
But no driving until he left Africa, incorrect title really.
No, the title is actually correct. No one cares if he only drove 5 miles thru Tangier to the ferry, the point is he made it from Africa to Goodwood on one tank of gas, just as they claimed.
try driving with petrol n see how it performs on a mercedez
