Just taken delivery of a new XFR-S. This car is totally awesome - unbelievable performance and handling, great ride (sufficiently firm, but in no way harsh) and looks the part. I've previously driven AMGs and M5. There's no comparison - the XFR-S is by far the best car I've ever had the privilege to own.
It's not on the same level as either the m5 or e63s but it still is pretty rare and a great effort by JLR and will make many drivers smile , but if you want the best of this era it's definitely not the jag you should spend your pennies on.
The Jag all day long. The Merc is nice too, but the Jag looks better and performs well, considering that it's somewhat under tuned by the factory. Ounce tuned, these cars are complete animals (Big Game Cats).
+Ivan King the mercedes is better built more technicaly advanced,better materials,better quality interiour,better looking navigation dials etc....it is faster(and can also still be tunned)handles better it s lighter and nimbler but yeah jaguar all the way lol=))))))))))
+Radu Vlad - It's because Merc has the money to race (e.g., Formula 1 etc., Le Mans, etc.) it' able to put that knowledge and technology into their production vehicles, as did Jaguar before it discontinued it's racing programs. Both companies have a very rich racing heritage, and should be regarded as such. I just 'prefer' the styling, elegance, and performance of Jaguar. BTW - Lewis Hamilton put Merc racing back on the map! So,...the driver also makes a difference! ;0) ))))))))
I drive a 2010 XF Supercharged, and have owned BMW and Mercedes in the past. The Jags definitely have more character and feel more exclusive. I get more of a mass produced feel from the German cars, even the AMG and M cars.
They both have great performance potential, but I really don't understand XFR-S' styling choice. The merc looks like a strong, handsome man in an Armani suit, while jag looks like a high school basketball player wearing a hat backwards. People who would buy an expensive, 4-door performance car are usually a bit older, and want the car to look tasteful and not too immature or flashy. I guess midlife crisis can explain a little red roadster, but I'm really not sure if there's a reason to lust over a car styled and painted like this jag.

I've driven the previous E55 AMG W211 and it was a great car. It's from 13 years ago and you'd think it wouldn't feel as fast now but you'd be sorely mistaken. It was sooo fast. Faster then I expected. When the M157 cars drop in value, that will be an incredible amount of car for the money. With the 4Matic one, launching especially that car shits on everything. It outruns some R35's! For a sedan it's just a different level of fast. You have to drive one!
I wasn't trolling at all, but since you are such a fan of facts, here's a couple for you. 1. The torque split is 33/67 rear biased with the ability to send up to 70% to the front wheels 2. All E63 AMG's in the UK are RWD and not AWD (unfortunately)
It is so hard to choose between these 2 cars bcuz they are both amazing cars. If i could afford the both of them i would buy the both of them but unfortunately i cannot even afford one of them
I don't know what it is about the whole Jag range. They looked amazing when they first came out but they all just look a bit dated to me. Yes they are still handsome things but more like when you see a grey haired older gent that you can look at and think "he looks good for his age", only to realise that the guy's actually quite young. Even so don't get me wrong I's still have one but just not if it had to be bought with my own money.
I agree. The way these very high performance luxury cars depreciate is not for the faint hearted unless of course, like me, you're prepared to wait a couple years then pick up the same car for a fraction of it's original price.
We regard the E63 AMG to have a slightly better suspension setup and engine than the M5. On that basis, we pitched the new Jaguar against what we regard to be the best in class.
Good showdown. I especially liked how the sheep at 3:59 weren't scared shitless when the E63 wrestled through that corner. Steve, you may want to reserve your thoughts on which car is the benchmark of supersaloons until you take the BMW M5 out again.
I agree, the new face of the e63 looks good but not as sharp as the old one. Someone on my street has the outgoing e63 amg and my god it's a sleeper but looks classy still.
personally if it was my money if it was new Jag to new Mercedes. I 'd go Jaguar for the simple reason of rear wheel drive. this would be a summer "fun classy car" but with all wheel drive in the AMG they put in all wheel drive which kills all the fun :(. Yes I respect and like the Nismo GT-R but nothing like drifting a car :)

Every gets all worked up about the boy racer wing, but it's an *option*. In my opinion, the E63, M5, XFR-S are all insanely fast and more than most can handle. Those opting for the Jag will most likely do so to not have the same car that abunch of other people in their town will have.
Jaguar XFR-S seems to be a car for the former Supra-kid now grown up 40-ish man that still likes tasteless spoilers. Too bad, the regular XFR is beautiful in black.

Good Review Thanks. I´m not really a Merc fan tbh, but the fact that the AMG is both cheaper, lighter and apparently also sounds and rides better makes it a clear winner in this match. Design wise I do not understand why Jaguar have chosen this blue color - it is rather hideous on the XFR-S - It might work well on other cars that need a sporty stand out code, but the XFR-S is a too exclusive car to carry that color IMO. White would have been an option, perhaps a Semi Matte Black or Gunbolt Grey.
BMW have just facelifted the F10 5-series. Have they forgotten about the class-leading M5?! But in this test the Mercedes is definitely a clear winner, great car.
Steve has been accused of nationalism and dishonesty - he was said to praise the F type just because it's English. This video disproves that, Steve knows his stuff and is a good honest journalist. Sure he obviously loves jag as a brand but he didnt try to make this one look better than it is.
Can't really understand the Jag. Surely the normal XFR ought to be competing with the M5 and E63? When they're making this much noise about the improved version and it's not as good as the standard E63 then it just looks a bit complacent and highlights that the standard XFR has fallen off the pace. Have to say though, in grey and with the little rear spoiler, it is the best looking in class.
I would have to say in terms of performance and the sound it makes I would have to give it to the merc but however when it comes down to how they look the jag just looks so much nicer
I do love both cars but I honestly think the Jag makes a better noise, I've stood behind an XFR-S when it was revved and quite frankly it's beautiful. The Jag isn't necessarily that expensive compared to others, when you consider the options list of cars such as the Audi RS6.

People who want the m5 in the video have completely missed the point these are muscle super saloons however the m5 is different as its more a sports car super saloon
Can you remove the spoiler on the Jag? It's looks so...childish. Luxury super-saloons are supposed to be understated, not loud (metaphorically, not the exhaust note) and tasteless like a ricer.
E63 is my favorite however I think the looks Mercedes is going for lately are a bit off... the cars just don't look finished properly. The new S-Class however, now it's nice.
guys...from a fair point of view. i live in US...I like both cars.. but the fact the chance u see a E series, very normal. but jag? well u might never see it for a day. I'll sure take the E63 between these two but if for those lower level models like E350 and XF3.0. E550 and XFR or XF supercharge? I'll 100% take the jag because it is just pretty awesome, considering the amount of it in US and how they r doing after they suffer the worst time for the company, I'll say! GO ON JAG whos with me?
The spoiler looks horrendous. Like someone said "quick we need a 3rd taillight to meet safety regulations" and someone's brilliant fix was to put that god awful spoiler on there.
although Jaguar is superior in every single way, i don't like this xf. You can chose a smaller spoiler for free but this lambo spoiler shouldn't even be there in the first place.
Merc seem to have upped their game a lot lately. It's just a shame you need to spend SO much money to get even a good one (apart from maybe the A45). Everything they make below about £65k-£70k is awful.

Not many reviewers compare it anymore. It has been said to be a quite a bit boaty and a stray in the wrong direction for an M car

5:40 E 63 doesn´t have a DCT transmission, it´s the 7G Speedshift MCT...
