Rumour has it these res deletes don't make a huge difference on the GPF VAG cars. Let's see for ourselves! If you have a pre-GPF car such as a Cupra 300, it's a massive transformation - check out my other video to see the results.

So there we have it! A subtle exhaust mod that gives you a louder more grumbly GPF car. Sorry about the dodgy colour grading in this video - had some issues with the recording settings. I would have included some more external shots of the cars driving, but its difficult to tell the difference unless you put the car under the right load. Overall I'd say its a good way to make the car more aggressive on the cheap without touching the GPF.
I asked someone else after watching your vid. I have a stock 290 which I picked up in March. Only done a 1000 miles so far (due to COVID). Do you know if the stock will get louder ?
@@ayrtonsenna7992 Yeah Iâd say so! Most people say it takes 2-3k to really open up. As you can tell by the overrun on adams stock car, it definitely improves a bit from new.
I had the Zaustworx pipe on my 290 with GPF and the noise difference was night and day. Much meatier and the pops and darts were great.
Good informative vid mate đ
Subbed.. I also have a 2020 Cupra 290.. and debating whether to get a res delete, so cheers for the info and video dude.
Loving every post m8, probably im not alone in wanting to see a stock dyno run before any more mods, the delete wonât have changed anything power wise so itâd be accurate.đđ»from đŽó §ó ąó łó Łó Žó żđđš
I have installed on my 2020 cupra revo stage 1 i do have dsg farts when changing gear on high rpm around 7k so far i drove 8k km, i saw some videos where you can add non resonated gpf cat-back and the volume will increase
I have a 2019 Leon ST Cupra 300 4Drive and pretty much rear mufflers are the only thing I could delete as I have 2 GPFs and no Resonator.
I have a cupra st 290. 2016
and no pops no noise no farts when changing gear .. disappointed ..
maybe a downpipe change the sound ???
How come you went from the cupra 300 to a 290
Might need to give an update on the sound in a couple of weeks. I done the same mod with the kit from progressive parts... been two months now and I hear DSG farts most times when I downshift in cupra mode. Early days mine sounded just like yours! Even revving idle now, pops and bangs every time!
I did think this might be the case, i gave it a few days to open up a bit because at first it didnât sound any different. If it beds in a lot more Iâll post a follow up!
How do you know if you need v1 v2 or v3? Cheers
Currently torn between getting a 300 (2017) and a 290 (2018). Driven both, the 300 felt more responsive/ more powerful and much louder. Did you feel that the older 300 you had felt more powerful than this? or will they essentially be the same? any advice on which way I should go?
I preferred the 300 personally. The 7 speed in the newer 290 is a bit smoother off the line but I find it hesitant and jerky in traffic compared to the older 6 speed. I also think the 300 sounds better and mods are more readily available. Iâve also had a few issues with mine from factory being a very late build, whereas my 300 was perfect. If i was in the market for one, I would look for a high spec 300 personally.
@@ItsDanLatham Thanks for the reply đđ much appreciated
Iâve got the 290 2018, in Sports mode (not Cupra), 80% of the time youâll get the DSG farts, havenât gotta put your foot down all the way either - all stock, nothing been done. Anything after 2017 / 2018, the performance and sound is a little restricted.
Does it sound any different in comfort mode? I drive it in sport so would like a bit more noise but thinking for the wife and baby around town.
Yes a bit in volume but its perfectly daily drivable in comfort, no crazy pops or bangs. Sport mode brings it out a lot more. Pretty much no drone at all
Completely agree with you mate spot on. Res delete on it's own doesnt make much of a difference but a GPF delete completely transforms this car it's like night and day you'll be surprised how loud it gets. I currently have a 2019 290 with a res and gpf delete and it's very loud. Dsg farts are pretty asbo and the overrun. Of course it would need a map after the opf delete but it transforms the car mate
Will it pass a mot?
You wont get any dsg farts on the PPF version unless you have that shit took off it, you will get pops and bangs though (albeit muffled) but only when the engine and the oil are hot. i took mine down the motorway the other night for a 20 minute drive in sport mode and when i got back to normal roads it was popping and banging like mad
How much miles have you done so far in the cupra? I got mine brand new too and it wasnt until i reached around 2000 miles and i realised the car got even louder and thats without a res delete
Both cars are around 2000 at the moment. There's definitely a bedding in period.
Iâm looking at a 2019 Cupra 290 lux will that have the same filter as yours did?
Yes from 68 plate onwards I believe.
whats that comparision with deleted no bangs, if you want bangs start faster after start up engine switch from cupra to sport and back to cupra, :D realized that after few k km, anyway wanted to do thus res del but i see buying whole new exhaust wull be better solution
Its bed in a lot better now and Iâll be doing an updated video soon!
I realized from the video your pops and bangs are way quieter than mine, I had the same thing done. However my cars now at 4k Miles.
Make sure your driving in "Sports" not even in "Cupra". Sports gives it the loudest pops and bangs in Manual, Give it a try! Downshift at 3-4k
Howâs it sound now ?
Ours is standard on 6k miles and is louder than yours with the res delete
I'm on 6k miles now too - have a video filmed with an update which will be up soon.
Another fellow YH70 Cupra 290 owner! Any solution to the rough wheel hop? I noticed the only solution for me is to boot it down at 30mph anything lower its too much power for the wheels.
I also did a res delete, glad you did in the end ;)
Tyres !! PS4S make a huge difference. Also, dogbone inserts are said to help a lot.
I changed to the ps4s and it made a vast difference. Still can't floor it off the line but worth the cost.
@@Lmbarrett83 Agreed! Its not perfect but no front wheel drive car will ever be. The difference is huge though and well worth it especially if you push the car hard.
You can get a "dog mount" or something and it eliminates wheel hop
@@willpark7483 yes I mentioned this in the first reply
The gpf one actually burblied on the rev part
Will this work on 2019 Leon cupra ST 4drive? (Its sooo quiet)
I think the exhaust on the ST is slightly different but progressive parts do solutions for the ST as well!
Iâm the same as you and was expecting a little bit more from it, but Iâm happy enough. Was tempted to get the backbox modded too but I reckon that might be a bit too much and cba with having loads of drone. Definitely sounds great with the windows down and from the outside. Itâs definitely worth doing!
Agreed! Anything more would drone and I canât stand that!
@@ItsDanLatham agreed. Messing about with exhausts always comes with a compromise. At least these GPF models donât really seem to in my opinion.
Yes mate
Love this content. Will this affect my lease? If not how much will it cost roughly?
The part is around ÂŁ140 and fitting is around ÂŁ40. Its reversible and easy to return to stock so its a common mod for leases, many dealerships say that it is fine, but just be wary that any exhaust modifications are likely to effect the exhaust warranty.
Interesting video!
I would have expected much louder pops/bangs. But maybe the ecu is in kinda saftey mode. You need to get a remap after GPF Delete!
Btw is that an aftermarket diffusor? Seems to be a little wider than my one.
The GPF is still present! Hence why its not a huge difference between the two. Its a Rieger diffuser, they seem to be a little difficult to import at the moment due to Brexit unfortunately but Iâve had mine for about 3 years (came off my Cupra 300)
@@ItsDanLatham Oh ok! Then i got it wrong. Thought they wouldve delete the GPF! Lucky for me that i live in germany. So there wont be any problems getting my hands on that diffuser :D How did you get these dynamic turnlights? Thanks đ
@@Golf8_Reviews_Codierungen No this just deletes the centre resonator and leaves the GPF in place! The dynamic lights I got on ebay, you can also order directly from aliexpress if you want them cheaper and donât mind a long wait. Relatively inexpensive and easy to do!
@@ItsDanLatham thanks a lot!
So did you have to take out the gpf aswel or is that still on there
This is all explained in detail in the video, the GPF is still present, it is required to make the car road legal.
Think your from around my area or not far since I've seen your videos at bluewater, I've got a 2019 cupra 290 with res delete and remap. Sounds okay but waiting for a decent exhaust to come out for the GPF models.
Iâve seen a few different systems cropping up! How are you finding the remap?
@@ItsDanLatham Milltek are just to expensive and nearly as quiet as stock and scorpion dont offer a GPF model exhaust yet. Find it great with the remap. Would be more than happy for you to have a go in it if you aren't to far away.
@@jacobrook12 look at the Huricane exhaust systems i just got one fittet to my 2018 Seat Leon FR 190 PS GPF Model
Does it drone ?
How have you found it on MOT? Are there any issues? Iâm thinking of getting a delete
Doesnât effect MOT, resonator has no impact, as long as you leave the GPF alone
@@ItsDanLatham Iâm definitely getting one then!
Have 2020 290 the car will not overrun at all in comfort.however plenty of over run in sport and Cupra when itâs warmed up. Weird you have alway re-select the drive mode you want each time you get in the car as it resets itself to a toned down version even whilst displaying sport and cupra. If that makes sense đ
Its the same in FR trims, you can leave it in sports mode and the lights stay the same but the actual settings resets itself.
Pick up a used 2019 Cupra 290 in 3 days. Cant wait, going to be the longest 3 days lol.
I plan on doing the res delete and changing the stock intercooler for an aftermarket one as its the same intercooler used on all the MQB cars such as the 1.5L Diesel variant! So a bit restrictive for a twin turbo, after that i'll see how it goes :)
@@JP_RS6 good luck! Be careful on damp roads until you upgrade the tyres. The thing is a death trap and has so much torque steer.
@@CJ-dl6rn i gather haha, big jump from my 181ps FR. Got my sights set on some Michelin Super sport tires in a couple weeks time once i've got used to it. Main drive for now is 98% motorway any way so no real chance to use the car until I move.
I appreciate the heads up!! :)
My 290 sounds nothing like yours stock. In manual mode it farts at redline (let the car change up). The over run happens from 4k-3k in sport or cupra (DSG) sport. Mines a 2019 with 10k and the noise is spot on. You need to change the mode at start up regardless of what mode you left it in. Hopefully its just the fact that its a 70 plate and it hadn't bedded in. You definitely have to drive this model differently to get the sounds.
Yep, this is my second cupra so familiar with the modes now and how they work, Iâm pretty sure these are just quiet due to the mileage. Only around 2000 miles on both. Its a shame the GPF kills the noise so much because the standard system on my pre-GPF 300 was perfect! Iâm planning to do a follow up video soon after lockdown restrictions and and the cars bed in more.
@@ItsDanLatham I came from a manual 280 and that was super quiet. In the video when you were revving it sounded like mine does if the driving mode was left in cupra and the DSG is in D. Even if I pull the shifter to S, it doesn't change, unless I reselect sport or cupra. It took me a while to figure out how to eek the sounds out of this one. For consistency I have to be in manual mode. I do agree though that the farts aren't as loud as the 300.
Between 2k and 3k the exhaust starts to get louder and I get a few burbles and crackles on overrun. I'm at about 3500k now and it's much better.
I got my new 290 in March last year. Due to COVID, Iâve only managed 1000m. Will it get louder on stock ?
@@ayrtonsenna7992 Yes, it should do. Mine did.
Definitely will. The difference between 2 to 3 km is quite a bit. It's nothing like the cupra before the filter was added but it rumbles and pops on the overrun. The odd crack here and there but not often. No DSG farts though!
How much was the res delete?
About ÂŁ120 on progressive parts I think, plus fitting if you cant do it yourself
How much do u pay a month for this car
ÂŁ260
Does this void your warranty?
Only for exhaust related issues. It shouldn't effect warranty status on the engine or electronics.
Sport/Cupra mode for over run. Gearbox in S/sport for DSG farts. Simples.
Agreed! Both accounted for in the clips
Do they weld it on?
Nope just use a sleeve and paste. Easily reversible!
@@ItsDanLatham Did you ask specifically for them to do this? Where did you go? Sorry not someone who mods cars. You're always 10/10 for replying mate'
@@ScottZ370 I'm friends with the guy who owns the garage I use so he knows the score. I doubt they would weld it by default though because its much more work. Any reputable garage will fit it for you and you can always tell them you want it to be reversible just in case you're worried they might weld it.
Oooooof
I've got a 2019 stock model mine makes dsg noise. Wear it in a bit more and you'll notice the difference. Plus dont drive like a fart đ€Łđ
Just look out for burglars breaking in to get the keys!! Mine was 6 months old, gang tried break in , scared them off as they made entry!!
These hot hatches are always targeted. Always important to have some good security installed on the car and the house! Scary thing to go through and it's great news you and the car were unharmed.
@@ItsDanLatham thanks, they are great cars, ÂŁ250 month to lease, fantastic to drive! It is a shame there not louder! But mine done 8k now and standard, in cupra mode downshifting it pop's n bangs lots! But you have to try! Lol! Yours will get louder as exhausted heat cycles đđgreat reviews on your cupra 290 đ
Need a back box delete also
I think the drone would be too bad. I think ideally on one of these you just keep it stock and remove the GPF unless you want it to be loud. But that should give the same effect as a 300 model before the gpf came in.
@@ItsDanLatham Iâm tryna keep mine in but want louder than just a res delete tbh cos theyâre still quiet even with it
Get JB4 and make a vid đđœ
Been considering it but its a fair amount of dosh for a car that spends most of its time at less than 40mph round town đ
@@ItsDanLatham fair enough lowered and wheel spacers maybe đ€
Seems a waste of money đŹ
Depends on what you want out of an exhaust upgrade!
