Veteran Service Organizations (VSO) come in many different varieties from taxpayer-funded to donation-only. Today we examine VSO VA disability claim help and examine the Do's and Dont's of using a VSO in order to win your VA rating or increase. Some factors that come into play here are waiting backlogs to get in touch with overworked VSO's, questionable level of quality assurance and care, and questionable strategies which ultimately leaves many veterans under-equipped to tackle their VA disability claims. It's not all doom and gloob though, a VSO can be a valuable part of your VA claim assistance, but should likely not be making all the decisions on the veteran's behalf.

I might be an outlier but the Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) has been very helpful so far. This time I will fly solo and go directly to the VA instead. 🤞🏼

Applied through the American legion for the pact act April of 2023. After waiting and waiting..no word back. Their phone was a voice message. No answer from email. Someone else told me it takes awhile🙄Finally called VA.gov who told me nothing was ever submitted. Nothing😫😩😭😭

You know, Jordan, you’re a bigger man than me. The way they went after you viciously slandering you and your business. I thought you were going to eviscerate them in this video. You were diplomatic, insightful, and exact. I hope everyone realizes that competence deserves compensation.

This is sad. In a few years I’m going to go work for a VSO and attempt to change this. I will actually care about the vets I’m helping and explain the same stuff you talk about.

My local office was terrible, three times. Never even got to the point of filing a claim. Now, there’s no walk in service, the door is actually always locked. You must call and leave a message for them to call and set an appointment. Their voicemail says that it could take months to call you back and if you call more than once, you are removed from the list. The voicemail also suggests finding another office for quicker service. Yeah, I’m sure they give you wonderful service once your time finally arrives. No thanks. After completing your program and a couple others, I just hit 90% on my first claim after separation in 1992. My first claim took 4 months and I’m on the board, in the red zone!🇺🇸 thank you VACA.

I submitted my intent to file in October, and filed this May for both supplementary and new conditions… so I believed. He only put in my supplementary claims, and that killed my intent to file backdate. They never call you back and when they do, they say they will try to fix it. Somebody from DAV called me today and told me that they are insured and I will get paid either way, but it seems like a real ass backwards way to get this fixed. The VA told me that once that supplementary claim was filed they never filed my new claims and basically I would have to file a new intent to file. Unreal.

I was fortunate, because I used a VSO who assisted me in filing my fully developed claims. I was very satisfied with his help. It was the raters who failed me. I had to file an appeal and eventually HLR's to obtain an appropriate rating based on the exact same evidence. Why? because Veterans often get initial lowball ratings forcing them to appeal.

I just got my supplemental claim denied for TBI. My VSO annotated to look in my VA healthcare records where it clearly says I was diagnosed with a TBI and im getting treated for it. However it doesnt say service connected. BUT I was diagnosed. That kinda seems sketchy. It got denied in less then 1 month. The letter had some typos as well.

Fact: There are deserving veterans geting no help at all. Fact; There are undeserving veterans getting lots of help. It's hard figuring out which is which. Life ain't fair, but I don't want any deserving veteran living in a bus stop booth just becasuse he or she dosen't have someone to help them. Some of us can fend for ourselves, some of us have lost the ability to do so. WE NEED GOOD VSOs. In my opinion, one good one, is worth a lot of half ass ones.

My comment is I’ve been doing my own claims. I just talks to 5 VSO about my last claims and 4 out of the 5 had no clue what I was talking about said they never heard of it. That individual qualifications for statutory housebound, especially the TDIU 100/60 law.

Is there a DA form that you need to put your personal statement on?

  • @njbobf
    @njbobf Před 2 měsíci +1

This is probably the single most valuable video posted. I did overly relied on a VSO not knowing anything about what all this involved and believing the VA would "do the right thing." The VSO sure did talk a good game giving me belief that he could facilitate me through the process. I was given no real direction other that what forms to fill out and no guidance or strategy on what to do and how to do it even though I was willing to do the grunt work. Moreover, some of the issues I encountered along the way he either had no idea what to do or when he reached out to his VSO next work, there never seemed to be an answer on what to do next. Between figuring stuff out on my own and learning from these CZcams videos, I expect that I will not achieve the result I want and am preparing to file supplemental information/claim once a final decision comes down and I know where the holes are. At the moment my claim seems to have gotten out of evidence gathering now is in the assessment/decision part of the process. Not sure what more I can do at this point. Does it make sense to provide personal statements and Nexus letters now or wait to see the result so as to know what exactly to do? Once you have given a VSO the POA to represent you, how locked in are you to using them and how best should you use them?

Terrible! I’ve used 3-4 VSO’s. In my experience it’s a job to them, with no attachments to the end results. The volume of vets they see makes it disconnected, and not personal in any way. Sounds good in theory, but until you take this into your hands and learn about the claims process you’re in trouble.

My VSO seems good so far. Won't know for sure until I find out what my final disability rating is, hopefully in the next month or so. I do have a question, however: Can I apply for SSDI in addition to the VA Disability, or is it an "either/or" situation? My health has gotten to the point I can no longer work and unless I get at least a 90% rating, I won't be able to afford to live on the VA Disability income alone.

The vso I met couldn’t formulate 2 sentences in a 30 minute window. He kept checking in with an older vso on what to say and what it meant.
Nice guy, just not ready for the task at hand. Claim was denied when submitted thru vso, I resubmitted on my own and submitted my own responses and got approved to 80% disability at this time.

Pretty much the same experience as many comments here. Locked door, must call and make appointment, whenever they get around to it. Mine didn't enter half my info and tried to tell me that I wasn't included in the PACT act when I clearly was and even had a letter sent to me saying so. I'm filing my own claims from here going forward. I haven't heard one good thing about VSO's, most say they don't care at all and I agree!

I file for increase for back in July 2013 VA Scheduled a C&P with VES doc used goniometer, same claim VA scheduled another C&P at VA Hospital no goniometer used, received a decision to grant 40% from July to December and in the same letter received a decision to change it back to 10% starting December. I appealed it and I finally got a decision in Feb 2019 granting me 40% but on starting in July 2017 when the same VA C&P doctor who then used a goniometer, they granted me 40%, no retro from 2013 because they said, the I had never been rated at 40%. I talked to my VSO and he said, I could not argue my original rating was 40%. Now I am educated and am I working on filing a CUE.
