    How long did you or do you usually leave this in the fermenter until bottling/keg?
    I just brewed this almost 2 weeks ago, so thinking about transfering this to a keg this weekend. It smells wonderful/odd in the fermentation chamber, almost like bubblegum :)
    I'll get back to with with a review how it turned out!

      nizce1 if you are kegging then as long as its done then go ahead :) yup bubblegum is generally in there :)

    Hello to you David I trust the Christmas period has treated you well. I just have a few questions about this brew. I plugged this into grainfather and the mash water was 18.82 liters and the sparge was 13.71 for a 23 liter brew. It would be nice if there was an equation that would tell you if your water volumes are in the ballpark, do you think this is acceptable?
    Also, do you grind up the seeds?
    My Northern Brewer hops are anly 3.9AA so I needed 55g of them how does this sit?
    I just want to make sure I'm not way off and that the grainfather calculator is not letting me down before I start. Thanks Dave, love your recipes mate your doing a stirling job! Currently have your Fast Hoppy Golden Ale, Milkshake IPA and Director's ale in fermenters as we speak. Feeling the love.

      Thank you Nick, yes it was a nice time :)
      Ive found the GF software to be very inaccurate with most things, including water volumes. I would suggest going with Brewfather which can be used for free. Yes, I usually grind seeds to unlock the flavour. The amount of hops is dictated by their AA%, so use what is needed but avoid low AA when possible as it will raise costs. Hope this helps :)

    Hey David, cool videos! But why do not you use aeration stone for aerating wort? Is it enough to splash for 5-12 L batches?

    • @DavidHeathHomebrew
      @DavidHeathHomebrew  Před 3 lety

      Thanks, a very old video now! Yes, this splashing is enough. Though if you are using dry yeast direct from the sachet the advice now is to not aerate.

    I never felt the need to use isolation with the grainfather. Even brewing outside. Have you bought that or made? Cheers

      @DavidHeathHomebrew  Před 8 lety +1

      This is the official one. I find it helps hold the boil when I open doors and windows and its abit faster getting to temps.

      bones549 Go for it :) There are few brews to avoid when starting out.

    On your next brew you should do it with Type O Negative playing in the background. : D

    Hi David, sorry for my ignorance but was the end result 25 Litres? How much did you use for the mash and sparge? Standard Grainfather calculation for smaller grain batches? Thank you

    • @maartenrooij2180
      @maartenrooij2180 Před 5 lety

      For a 25L batch the Grainfather calculator says MASH WATER (L)14.57 and SPARGE WATER (L)20.2. Do you agree?

    • @DavidHeathHomebrew
      @DavidHeathHomebrew  Před 5 lety

      Yes, I used used the standard GF calcs. They wont work for everyone though. So adjust as you need to.

  • @andersgranosmundsvaag1468

    it looks like u dont get enough boil? Is that a problem with the GF?

    do you ever rehydrate your yeast before pitching?

      I used to but these days I use the method shown. No difference.

    I've used the Grainfather a couple of times now and immediately noticed the weak boil and the resulting low boil-off rate. I'm brewing this Sunday and deciding weather to boil for 10-15 mins before my first hop addition or to add less sparge water. Any thoughts!

    Why don't you use some sort of foamcontrol?

    • @DavidHeathHomebrew
      @DavidHeathHomebrew  Před 8 lety

      I dont see the need to be honest, its easy to control without extra products

      +David Heath Yeah me too actually, found out if I kept my eye on the bucket and stirred I'd be ok, just hope nothing interrupts me.. Just bought the foamcontrol and found out I didn't need it. Doh!
