      haugeby Ive brewed this before, with the right yeast its close to the original. Personally im experimenting with different yeast to see the end result.

      And now for something completely different ... I saw your video "Out of date Liquid beer yeast Revitalistaion". At 0:50 you say you have a video where you make a starter. Can you point me in the right direction / video. Cheers.

    Getting thirsty just watching this. When do you actually add the Candi sugar to this brew?
    I've seen the sugar added at various stages, even fermentation. Keep the small pipework videos coming! Cheers!

    • @DavidHeathHomebrew
      @DavidHeathHomebrew  Před 7 lety

      Sugar can be added at different stages for different reasons. Generally It would be added during the boil at 10 minutes till the end. If you were using simple sugars then you might want to add them earlier to get some extra conversion or caramelisation. Glad you are enjoying the videos! I have the Grainfather connect controller coming next week ahead of release, so that will be the next one!

    I like the intro David and enjoy watching your brew days. Do you leave your Thrumometer in situ during the sterilising recycle? I have read some people saying the high temperature can damage the liquid crystal scale?

    • @DavidHeathHomebrew
      @DavidHeathHomebrew  Před 7 lety

      Gary James Thanks alot Gary, im glad to hear that :) Yes I leave the Thrumometer in place during the sterilising cycle. Ive done quite afew brews with it so far and its had no issues. Others have had trouble doing this?

    • @garyjames2664
      @garyjames2664 Před 7 lety +1

      David Heath someone on one of the forums said the instructions for the thrumometer said high temperatures could damage it - but mine didn't come with any instructions!

    • @DavidHeathHomebrew
      @DavidHeathHomebrew  Před 7 lety

      Gary James Nor did mine!! Those temp strips are very cheap to replace though.

    Nice video, David. How long did you mature the beer in bottles before it was ready?

    • @DavidHeathHomebrew
      @DavidHeathHomebrew  Před 7 lety +1

      Joe Barrett It was drinkable at 6 weeks but it peaked at 9 weeks. This beer has been a big hit was others every time I brew it.

    This is a long shot but seeing as you're brewing in Scandinavia.... I'm looking to do a Carlsberg Special Brew and wondered if you've come across any extra strong (and sweet!!) lagers? Hoping to plan such a brew for my Mother's 80th in Feb next year (it's her favourite), so just asking around for any pointers? Cheers.

    • @DavidHeathHomebrew
      @DavidHeathHomebrew  Před 7 lety +1

      Cider Meister I have to be honest, I am not a fan of lager, I dont drink it hardly ever. The commercial market here is moving away from lager styles into Ales of all types. The lagers that I have tried here have been nothing special.

    Do you have a substitute for the Styrian Goldings bittering hops?

    • @DavidHeathHomebrew
      @DavidHeathHomebrew  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes. You could use East Kent goldings or other European hops with similar results.

    Hey David! How long should I let this beer mature for?

    • @DavidHeathHomebrew
      @DavidHeathHomebrew  Před 5 lety +1

      I tend to condition this one for at least 3-4 months unless if I use kveik yeast. Then a couple of weeks will work no problem.

    Hey David, I was going back through your videos because I thought you had done one on the in-line beer thrumometer. I wanted to get your thoughts on it again and confirm that I would need the 3/8" version to use with the Grainfather tubing. Which video was it again? Cheers!
