    Nice brew day. Getting really envious of everyone’s grainfather connect videos. Guess I will finally have to grumble and pull the trigger on the upgrade. I have brewed a lot with the grainfather, and I can confirm crush can swing efficiency greatly. Good luck with it man. Cheers

      Bro, you will not regret the upgrade. It makes brew day even more fun I promise. Also, having the delay heating function can shave up to an hour off your brew day by having your mash water ready to go! Cheers!

    That really is an art. The only beer I have ever brewed was that Mr Beer stuff and obviously, that does not compare. Looks complex, like science!

      Hi, Tink! You got that right lol! It’s a culinary art to me. Amazing the options we have as craft brewers to create some incredible beers. Cheers!

    Looked like a pretty laid back brew day. You need to get your daughter in the videos again! I bet she is growing like a weed! Cheers, Q! \m/

      She is growing too fast! I had thought about it lol. I was actually juggling daddy duties while brewing. Another perk to brewing in the kitchen! Cheers!

    About your efficiency. I found if you stir in your grains small amounts at a time. So for 10lbs do it in about 4-5 additions of grain and a lot of stirring at a time. Stir stir stir and stir some more. Once you think you ha e stirred enough stir some more. I found a big increase in my efficiency once I started doing this. It takes me approximately 20+ mins to doe in. Hope this helps. Keep up the good work.

      I usually hit the number on the mark but this is my second brew in my new city and something is amiss for sure...

    It's probably not the case but next time you mash check the temp with a digital or candy thermometer and see if it matches your grainfather reading. It could always be the crush as you suggested. I don't know if you build your water up or adjust tap water but that's something to look into too. Either way, you'll always end up with fine drinking homebrew. Cheers, bro.

      That’s not a bad idea. I will try that next round. Cheers!

    You should have two seperate circuits in your kitchen. Just have to find them. Using a SHORT, HEAVY extendtion cord, the microwave should be on it's own breaker for sure. If it's hardwired, use the one for the dishwasher. It also should be on it's own too. Hope this helps. Happy Brewing =)

      hmmmm.... that's good to know! I haven't had any issues with my current setup but its good to know there is an option if I do lol. Cheers!

    What are your thoughts on something like the Brewers Edge Mash and Boil vs the Grainfather? Obviously the Grainfather does more, but do you think the price difference is really worth it? I'm trying to decide between the 2. Only problem is I would have to save a lot longer for the Grainfather LOL.

      I have zero experience with it but I have seen folks develop buyer’s remorse over it on Facebook Grainfather Users Group. I would say that you will probably experience the same.

    Wouldn’t the whirlpooling cause some hot side oxidation?

    • @TheBrewQ
      @TheBrewQ  Před 6 lety

      I dunno but I guess we will find out. There are quite a few recipes out there that call for whirlpooling hops at the end.

      I am using RO water and then adding ph buffer to it to bring down the ph for the mash.
