    This is the most unbiased, intelligent, and informative analysis of ufc196 McGregor vs Diaz there is out there. This is the kind of analysis all of the other so called analysts should be doing instead of celebrating the loss and victory of fighters who put everything on the line to entertain the fans. Some of the analyst out there who analysed this fight while laughing at and criticing the fighters haves no fuckin place anywhere near a TV camera.

    Nate is a light weight, and Conor should have been too. Nate was heavier because he took it on super short notice, but Conor was heavier because he put on muscle mass. Nate is the one that took a risk here, with the short notice.
    Also Conor is huge for featherweights, much more than the gap between Nate and him, so stop sugarcoat it.
    Conor is the champion of Weight-Cutting, and cockiness. Except this he is great striker, but not that good like he thinks he is.

    Firas, with all due respect the rant you went into at around 50 minutes about Conor going up 2 weight classes is a bit ridiculous, no disrespect meant. Conor is as big as many lightweights and he fights at FW to have a size advantage and he faced another lightweight (not even one of the bigger ones) at 170. Technically he went 2 weight classes up, but in reality this was a last minute catch weight against a fellow lightweight. Conor said he walks around at 172 - what does Nate walk around at? 175? The way you talked about 20 pounds is incorrect. Had he fought Rory, for example, that would have really been going up 2 weight classes.

      Ryan Garrick I meant weight, should have written heaviest, I guess. He is indeed one of taller lightweights, but not the heaviest ones. He probably walks around at 175, give or take a little. Guys like RDA or Benson walk around at 190, which is insane!

      But....watch a good recording of the fight. You probably won't hear it online, or with crappy speakers. When Nate pushes Conor up to the cage, then gives him that first knee, you can hear Conor grunt. If you're not listening for it, you'll miss it.

    • @cryomerk90

      +a.gon The idea is that fighters would start fighting closer to what their natural weight is to avoid doing what you said.

    • @agonforreal
      @agonforreal Před 8 lety +5

      +cryomerk90 doesnt sound like a bad idea on paper but fighters will still try to get any advantage they can even if it means cutting weight on the day of the weigh ins. This would lead to dehydrated fighters stepping into the cage who are more susceptible to getting seriously injured

    • @agonforreal
      @agonforreal Před 8 lety +3

      Agreed. He never faced a guy who will punch back when he thrown those haymakers, and Conor waste a lot of energy shaking his head even when Diaz didn't punched him.
      After this fight, he is absolutely not at Anderson Sliva's striking level, and his clinch game is a piece of trash.The fighters who face him in the future just have to stay close to him, takedown may be good but not really necessary to beat him.

    I want to see Connor vs Aldo (he will only be a TRUE champ once he defends it IMO).

      +mexicanwave Why should Conor get a free shot to LW belt and jump over an entire division now that he's lost to a guy who was beat by the champ? In my humble opinion, Conor lost his shot at RDA with this defeat.

    • @youronlyjessy_wessy.
      @youronlyjessy_wessy. Před 8 lety

      Nika Zardiashvili Perhaps. But these are the fights we want to see.
      So IF Conor beats Aldo, then Conor RDA superfight is back on. Who wouldn't want to see that?
      IF Diaz beats RDA then we have a Conor / Diaz rematch that would be the potentially be the biggest fight in UFC history.
      As for the LW division...
      Cerrone is out of the picture now.
      Khabib is always injured (and a bore to watch imo)
      Alvarez can grind and is tough but has almost no following (he got booed in his last fight).
      There is a case for Ferguson v Pettis to see who is contender, but without RDA/Diaz/Conor it is just not going to make the numbers.
      At the end of the day it is a business and it is about the biggest fights possible.
      My (hypothetical) options take that into consideration.
      Now we also need to think about Lawler vs Diaz / RDA at 170!!
      But Conor should stay the fuck away from 170 in my opinion.

      +Said Beqqi Like his coach said "You've seen him on the salads, now watch him on the steaks." Packing on muscle just slowed him down and sapped his energy. He should have realised he was going against his own philosophy by changing his body and the game plan of swinging as hard as he could at a guy that's never been KO fully. (timing beats speed/precision beats power).

    connor said he was going to accept this loss "like a man". but connor is saying that the reason he lost is bcuz diaz was a bigger man. connor wasnt beat by a bigger man, connor was beat by a better man. connor is making excuses which is not manly.. diaz has always been tough and durable. connor has proven that he can only be effective in a first round. size does not mean much to a true martial artist. look at the early days of the ufc and royce gracie's ability to slay much bigger guys.

      @ghillys2776 Před 8 lety

      lol gracie was tapping people who didnt even know what a gi is...and too say conor is only effective i the first round is stupid. he was probably 10-20 pounds lighter when he fought at featherweight and at the top of the game that weight matters when you're heavier you gas easier. but yea nates sub game is one of the best in the world im sure he could submit almost anyone if he has them on the ground. but conor mauled him for a good 7 min of that fight

    • @handzofstone1152
      @handzofstone1152 Před 8 lety

      Lol, the "better man" haha. Conor fought a stupid fight, plain and simple. He underestimated the change in weight, and he came in obviously throwing bombs. He didn't fight the same way he had been fighting on his way up in the featherweight rankings. I've been saying since he first started to talk about moving up to welterweight that it was a bad idea and he shouldn't go any higher than lightweight. There's a difference between walking around at a weight and cutting down that weight. While he may walk around at about 170-175 lbs., the fighters who compete in the welterweight division are naturally bigger than him. Conor had never competed at welterweight in his career. He's inexperienced with fighting at that weight which is why he made the mistakes that he did. When you fight at a high weight like that you need to conserve your energy more. The bigger you are, the more energy you burn up to move. You can't just go up to a higher weight division (especially whenever it's almost exactly the same weight as your everyday walk-around weight) and expect to be able to fight at the same pace that you would at a lighter weight division. Especially not whenever you're moving up on short notice like Conor did. But of course it comes as no surprise that a hater like you would dismiss this fact along with anything else that would discredit Nate's win over Conor, just to make it out as if he beat Conor flawlessly so that it makes McGregor look worse, even though he did win the first round decisively. That's just a typical thing all of you hating ass casuals love to do. When you a fighter that you dislike wins, you do whatever you can to discredit their victory despite how good it may have been. When a fighter you dislike loses, you'll say anything to make it out to be more than it actually was. With that being said, the sudden change in weight along with McGregor's different fight approach compared to his previous ones is obviously what lead to him losing more than anything else. If they were to fight at lightweight and Conor comes in like he has in all of his other fights, he almost certainly wins the fight. And that's not to say Nate didn't beat him fair and square or that he isn't a great fighter, it's just pretty obvious that Conor is the better fighter. Me saying that also has nothing to do with me liking Conor or disliking Nate, I'm simply telling it like it is as I always do, regardless of how I feel about said fighter. Also what's this Conor is only effective in the first round nonsense? If that were the case then how do you explain his second round KO's? Or his decision over Max Holloway? That's obviously another ignorant comment made by you primarily meant to bash a fighter that you clearly don't like. And seriously? Size doesn't matter? You're going to try to use what Gracie did way back before the sport had evolved and most fighters were still ignorant to other martial arts? There are weight classes for a reason. You can't seriously tell me that you think Demetrious would have a solid chance of beating Jon Jones. Get real dude. Even Nate knows size matters, which is exactly why he doesn't regularly compete at welterweight. Of course I'm sure that was yet another ignorant statement solely meant to bash Conor for losing to a bigger fighter. Yet I'm sure you would be one of the first to talk about how he beats "midgets" and then go and praise Nate for beating Conor even though Conor is smaller than Nate and Nate has been fighting "midgets" for almost his whole career. Lmfao

  • @JustinMeyers-Plasticmonument

    I usually love Firas, but this feels like a UFC company response. It's not that a fighter ever loses, it's the fashion in which he loses. He punches Diaz's hand in a faceoff, says he's going to murder him, etc. and then doesn't even have the cardio to make it to the second round in a 5 round fight. He's a good striker, but he can only beat up super small guys. He'll lose to 90% of the lightweights and 100% of the welterweights. Guys like Robby Lawler, Rory McDonald, Stephen Thompson are all ready to war it out in a 5 round fight. Conor would get murdered. Conor is an amazing striker, but he hasn't spent enough time on his ground game and freaks out when his left hook doesn't work.

The 1st rd felt a lot more even than I remembered. As well, his cardio didn't seem quite as bad as I remember. Really think Diaz rocked him. Diaz kept t-ing off on him which is what caused Conor to go for the takedown. Diaz was the superior fighter, for sure. I'd say Conor got about 12 solid shots during the entire fight, everything else either missed, or Diaz rolled with it.

    I'm so incredibly sick of hearing that weight was a factor with Nate. They were the same weight, and Conor had a full camp where as Nate was partying, drinking, on a boat when he got the call. Also he had a stomach bug from Mexican water lol..
    Nate is just the superior fighter. He's just a better boxer with more heart, and more confidence in his ground game because his jiu-jitsu is incredibly slick.
    Conor had done to him precisely what he claimed he'd do... That Nate "would become a panicked grappler" because of his striking. I think the fact that the very first time Conor faced adversity, he shot for a takedown, shows a lot about his lack of heart.

    • @UFC_Buffalo
      @UFC_Buffalo Před 8 lety

      +Teleology Master Well, Nate was pretty explicit in the fact that he was intentionally taking the first round off to save energy to push the pace the last 4 rounds...
      As soon as Nate got Conor's timing and distance down in the 2nd it was over with.... If Conor hadn't shot, which was probably just out of instinct, it would've turned into a very long night for him. He probably would've been TKO'd out of exhaustion later-on, or decisioned... I mean, he was getting dominated in the clinch, and against the cage too.
      Conor landed some good punches, but couldn't keep it up and couldn't hit Nate quite hard enough.
      And finally, Nate had absolutely 0 time to get ready, considering the media obligations and such. He wasn't "training for a triathlon", as was rumored. He was partying on a yacht in Mexico. He actually got sick from the water... I believe him when he says that if he had any real time to get ready for the fight, he thinks he wouldn't even have gotten hit. His boxing is just far superior.

    • @UFC_Buffalo
      @UFC_Buffalo Před 8 lety

      +Derik Dulka Yes I did hear Firas, and I also watched the fight. it looked like Conor shot for the takedown almost out of instinct. Like he wasn't even aware of what he was doing...
      Also, Conor didn't jump in weight, he jumped weight classes....
      Big difference...
      He had a full camp, and just didn't have to cut weight. The hardest part.... They were both at essentially their natural, walk-around weight....
      BJ Penn "jumped up in weight" when he did it.... He's a natural 145er, 155er, and Conor is not.. Conor almost dies when he cuts weight, and he's by far the biggest 145er.

    Conor's fight IQ was off against Nate, that spining kick was way off and burn't tons of energy, he was gassed by the second round..that muay thai low rear kick against Nate to set up the right left hook would've been a far better option against the taller fighter in Nate. These were the tools used by RDA that exposed Nates weaknesses. We talk about fighters being known for their particulars style's, and conor isn't really know for his muay thai like a jose Aldo, but to be a great fighter at different weights, your best chance is to adapt your style to your opponent instead of being a "one trick pony".

    I disagree with your take on Conor's condition when he was in his corner. I had no volume on the coverage because of where I was and watching it on a friends phone, but I could clearly see Conor was gassed in the last minute of the first round. His arms were looser, shoulders back and head tilted back slightly. And then if you look at when he was sat on the stool, his stomach rapidly inflating and deflating. It was very obvious to me he had already gassed himself. Likely from so many wheel kicks that missed and several heavy straight lefts that missed. It looked to me like he didn't have the feel for Nate's height.

      +Kenneth Markwith He punched himself out. You are correct. He was eating like crazy to gain the extra pounds and was only 168 on the scale. He looked sluggish and flat footed. Very unlike him and the change with the eating had a lot to do with that imo. When you overeat it slows you and sucks your stamina. Add to that the loading up and the surprise that Nate was absorbing his best shots.

      +Kenneth Markwith in connor's mind the fight was going to be over in the 1st round.. he threw full power the whole time.. and yup nate ate the punches and connor gassed.

      +Kenneth Markwith Yeah one of the few things Firas missed in a great breakdown. I'm pretty sure John Kavanagh said a much on the MMA. He could see Conor was breathing a lot heavier than usual after one. Again it just puts into perspective how honest Conor was post fight and during the press conference. All the top level analysts like Firas and Luke Thomas have echoed what Conor said.

      he still would have lost at the end of the day it came down to who wanted it more. McGregor with all his money doesn't care he's got another huge payday coming up win or lose. he's got to go back and get his hunger back

      +mollyoko his definitely threw a lot of power shots. but do u think that explains him gassing out? doesn't he work all day as he says? he didn't want it as much as Diaz we all saw him doing very well when he was landing then all of a sudden Diaz cracks him with a 1-2 then he wants out. the man played us all for fools he's nowhere as tough as a Diaz

    I don't agree with this guy on so much about this fight. "We'll have to ask Conor where his energy went in this fight." He got beat up and choked out mate why does there have to be some sort of secret reason he lost he was just not good enough.

      Thomas Francis Conor was winning the fight, another round like that would have KO Nate, but he had no more energy (respect to Nate, he took the shots and absorbed them) but youre not in a position to judge good enpugh or not without being there and trying it...

    Interesting the point you made about people thinking fighters are no good after one loss. I think there's a lot of casual MMA fans who think they're hardcore. They THINK they understand this game. These same people who think Conor can't fight at 155 now because he was beaten by the #5 LW. Absolute bullshit. He lost to a LW at 170. The weight in this game plays a huge difference. If you think it doesn't, look at Conor after 2 rounds vs. Mendes and 2 rounds vs. Diaz. Chad was laying on him and landing elbows for around 7/8 minutes. Conor still got up, threw some nice combinations and won the fight. After one round of punching against Diaz he was gassed. Letting Diaz get comfortable at 170 was a mistake. If the fight was at 155 Conor would have been fresher and Nate would've had a weight cut. Conor was just too big for his own good. Every strike he loaded up on took way more energy than normal.. it's physics.. he carrying more weight than he's used to and his body is working harder to carry it. Looking back on it now it's obvious Conor stacked the odds against himself too much. A 5'9" guy carrying 168 is a lot different than a 6'1" guy carrying 169. People saying he bit off more than he could chew, but I think he can chew just fine.. the manner in which he did it was just wrong. Anyone who's not an internet expert knows this is a bump in a long road and Conor will be wiser and more prepared the next time he fights the bigger guy.

      The odd thing is that most fighters improve their cardio by not having to dehydrate themselves to make weight.

    The touch of death is real? 'He landed it 7 times clean?' Not really a touch of death then if Diaz could win. This fight showed that Conor's punching power is good but not enough to take down fighters outside of FW.

    Come on Firas.
    Conor did not fight a WW. He fought a LW who didn't cut weight.
    Quit recycling the UFC narrative of damage control. The ONLY reason this fight, and the Conor vs Diaz rematch is @ 170, is so the UFC can use a the built in excuse that Conor was fighting "a much larger man" "moving up two weightclasses" etc. It allows Conor and the UFC to keep their options open for a gifted title shot at 155, along with making sure that Conor doesn't risk his selling power by potentially losing that gold strap over his shoulder in having to actually defend @ 145.
    I am so sick and tired of this bullshit that Conor fought a WW, or jumped two weight classes. Conor is a LW who kills himself to beat up on much smaller men @ 145. I'll give him credit for moving up ONE weight class if he faces a true WW like Lawler, Woodley, Hendricks, Rory, or Wonderboy - but we all know that won't happen because Conor would absolutely get his shit pushed in.

    you make it sound like conor lost because he had an off night or something, how about he lost cause diaz was better? push diaz already the dude is way more interesting cause he is real. Conor scripts shit to say is all his interviews and press conferences. How can you not say he was over rated? The ufc and the media played conor as some god, they put him up against lesser competition with short camps. Even diaz had a short camp and the ufc was caught saying diaz was training for some race while diaz said he was on a boat being a fat boy. Call it like it is please...
