The fact that Tom Brady had "find #20" on his wrist every time he played Ed Reed says something about just how good he was.
that first play ever shown is why bill belichick thinks that ed was the best FS to ever play the position.
Christian Hatke and he always went to his backup QB’s on game day whenever my Ravens played him and told the backup QB I want u to watch Ed Reed all game!
Notice He didn't do that for #43
They even cut out the part of that interview where they said Ed played the coverage wrong in other games intentionally knowing Brady & Manning would see it & that's why he knew they would let it go if they saw him drifting to the wrong side.
Did he really lol?
2/3rds of the earth is covered by water, the other 1/3rd is covered by Ed Reed.
😂
ingmarc McKenzie I like this 😂😂
Don’t you mean Roy Williams? Lol
I think Dieon Sanders said this about himself when Ed Reed was still at the U.
Greatest Miami Hurricane ever !
It was a privilege growing up watching Reed in Baltimore. Put the fear of God in every QB.
One of the best ever IMO
thank you for taking the words out of my mouth
You could say the same thing about Lawrence Taylor
@Evo Shift Was that you just testing to see if your comment would get deleted? Lol
Having two guys like Ray Lewis and Ed Reed with their level of reading ability on the same team was devastating. It was a pleasure getting to watch these guys win one for my city 🙏
The crazy part of the Manning play was that it probably wouldn't have worked on anyone BUT Manning. Manning was a disciple of the film room and Ed said that for like 2-3 weeks, he did that same move to the middle because he knew he was playing Manning soon. Manning had that move almost ingrained in his mind so when Ed did the flip around, Peyton was completely caught off guard.
Literal chess match going on for weeks just for this one interception.
That's insane.
@@chadzard4 That’s awesome.
I think its more reading the pump fake move of manning. He said Manning would throw in the direction he pumps, especially if he sees the safety go in the opposite direction. So when manning pumps that way, reed fakes that he is going in the opposite direction. He also makes it look as if his eyes are not on manning, but he still can see manning in his periphery. Then as SOON as he sees manning wind up he knows where he is going and turns around and books it to that spot. Either way its amazing next level athleticism smarts and talent. But I think he could actually see manning making the throw out of the corner of his eye
73 total career interceptions! Let that sink in! They didn’t throw as much as they do now, but reed would be pickin off everyone 👌🏾🙌🏾
Ali Razvi Accept mahomes.
@@seabass62yearsago lmao Ed reed? Mchomes my boy but reed was playing mind games with MANNING AND BRADY a young mchomes would get picked apart
@@diamondmoore3165 i understand what youre trying to say, but you really couldn't do better than call him MCHOMES
64 INTs my friend not 73.
@@jsan5297 73 including playoffs are you not listening to the video?
Ed Reed makes you seriously consider if we should all be laterally passing more
Thats what I was thinking. To be the best team to ever exist you would need to have that skill down pact but its such a dangerous move that NFL teams probably don't even allow their players to do it.
@@ramrover9826 honestly, you're probably correct. But seriously, that's how every score is achieved in rugby. We're definitely missing out on a huge chunk of the game
@@emilyvictoria5706 I feel like I remember a few times he would lateral and lose the ball on a fumble too. Which is why it's dangerous. I think it's ok to do occasionally but he would try to do it literally every time haha
@@TheQwerty200 with your logic it's dangerous to throw the ball at all lol
@@emilyvictoria5706 when I first saw a lateral, I got excited because I didn't know that was allowed in American football.
I will say that the way American football is allows all types of people to be good players. Good at specific things that contribute.
I’ll never forget the year he played eight games and still led the league in interceptions
Ed Reed is a once in a generation DB.Not a fan of that team but wow what a weapon during his day.
Once every 20-40 years ... transcendent
Ok u might not believe me but Ed reed is my cousin
Yup him and ray lewis were a deadly combination
SAVVY RYRY he was my uncle
Twice in a generation, Polamalu.
ED REED best Free Safety of all time! 🐐#Goat
The Jordan nah

uh let me think no one lol
Dawkinns>reed check the stats!
We never knew how blessed we were with Suggs Olb Ray lewis Mlb and Ed Reed Fs... 3 hall of famers playing 90% of their careers together! ♥️
And Ngata in the middle too!

I knew Ed reed was the best safety ever but watching this really makes you appreciate why. Crazy good

One of the best to ever play the game.. Man do i miss growing up watching this guy play. This dude made me realize to never take HOF players for granted while their still playing because once they retire that's it all we have to watch is highlight films of thier greatest plays.
@Matthew Vides u mean same secondary?
@Matthew Vides lol right also no WR will want to go across the middle and than every teams game plan will be to run the ball but wait can't forget about ray lewis and the LB/DL core
I wish The Ravens had Ed Reed right now.
paul jenkins We’re doing great without them, but I’d never say no to Reed, Lewis, Ngata or Suggs. Miss all of them.
The only reason I can be content with the Ravens beating my 49ers a few yrs back is bc one of my favorite players of all time Ed Reed got a ring.
One of the more underrated SB that one was classic
Fock GooglePlus it wouldn’t have been a classic if the NFL didn’t shut the lights off. That game was a blowout
@@jordan12118 thats what made it classic for me the ravens were on a mission that year after beating the broncos and pats
That one hurt because I really wanted Randy to get a ring that year. I wasn't too mad though because Ed got it.
@@Ianthesportsguy91 that old D put in work ray, suggs, reed. i say I say all HOFs......
As a ravens fan, it was an great honor and privilege to watch Ed Reed play the safety position.🙏✊
Ik wym
People never understood how a lived in Cleveland my entire life and a die hard browns fan favorite football player was Ed Reed. The best football player I ever seen. The rival jersey didnt matter to me.
Remember when Reed was a rookie and that one announcer said “He’s making a big mistake. The rookie will learn to get down.” Right after he caught and interception and ran for more yardage. And now he’s in the HOF and has the record for most yards after an interception!
I feel like some people have forgotten how good Reed was, he is one of the best, if not the best safety ever
Definitely the best
Best safety top 3 dbs of all time debatable for 1
@@Bmoreflow Top 3 DB’s Primetime, Reed, Troy Polamalu. Dawkins honorable mention.
Best FS ever.
@@Bmoreflow him and lewis arguably the best NFL duo of all time.
I coach football. 10 years. I watch film. I've never seen ANYTHING like this, offensively or defensively. The level of difficulty of some of these plays he seemed to do on a recurring basis is mind boggling.
Exactly, and he made it look easy.
I have never seen a safety play this deep wow. That alone makes his the greatest, his range, catches and run backs are amazing as well.
Cleanest interception I ever saw Ed Reed make was in 2009 when the Ravens played the Bengals at M&T. It was 3rd & 13 and Carson Palmer was staring down Chad Johnson from the snap. Ed ran full sprint towards him as soon as the ball was snapped and picked it off and was gone the other way for a TD so fast, you barely saw him on screen when they showed the replay. I was in complete shock. O-O
The camera shots on that one are amazing!!
Wouldn't have been a football video if Tony Romo wasn't throwing a pick in it 😂
😂😂😂😂😂
Cowboys fan btw
Lol at last yall can laugh at it! Also the only QB who can throw for 500 yards and still lose 🤣
@@phdonme1 Not true. Brady threw for 505 in the Superbowl against the Eagles and lost.
@@JohnDavidDunlap It's a joke sir. And Marino did it as well. However Romo is a serendipitous hyperbole of his position. A victim of circumstance.
Great breakdown, make more of other NFL legends!
Let me guess u want Dawkins
@@nightmareassassian4130 Why not? Dawkins was an elite safety as well.
@@nightmareassassian4130 Well since you mentioned him 😉
@@PhillyFan20 ik i just seen the eagles picture so i assumed him.
@@nightmareassassian4130 Wouldn't mind Jason Peters, Polamalu, Lewis, Urlacher, just to name a few.
This is old but beautiful
Hector Rodriguez I’m 13 but I like goin to the old games it’s better than this new stuff
Got to watch Reed and Ray Lewis at every home game...buying PSLs in 96 was the best thing I’ve ever done...both are incredible men too
Congrats to Ed Reed going into the NFL hall of fame.
Got the chills watching this. Ed Reed is the GOAT!
This era is the reason why we had the #1 or #2 defense in league. Just understand that our defense changed team dynamics across the league. It was so good that we didn't even need an offense. That's unbelievable
Y’all could’ve been a dynasty as if you drafted a qb better than Joe Flacco.
As a Steelers fan I have nothing but the utmost respect for Ed Reed I miss those battles between him and Hines Ward those were just Epic Troy Polamalu and Ed Reed hands down we're the best to do it
😢 so beautiful to watch... Ed Reed you are missed in the NFL
5:32 I love how Reed crouches down, looks like he's hiding from the QB, like a tiger about to strike
I mean that Defence in general was legendary.
I hate the Ravens, being a Colts fan, but I can't help but love Ed Reed. He was so much fun to watch, even though much of his plays stabbed me in the chest. A great, great legendary player. Arguably the greatest Safety ever.
I really miss that stacked defense we had a few years back. Ray Lewis, Terrel Suggs, Haloti Ngata, Ladarius Webb. I just remember never feeling out of a game, because you just knew Ed would get a huge pick.
Imagine if that Ravens 2000 defense had Ed Reed bruh!!!
Where was rod woodson gon go lol😂
Back in the day there was an Ed Reed Highlight video set to DMX's X Gonna Give it to Ya. It was my pre-game ritual when I was 33 and playing tackle pick up games with the 20 somethings. Needless to say, I was pumped up and ready to go. Ed Reed is THE G.O.A.T. of G.O.A.T.s.
These plays are all so easy. I couldve made all of them too, I just dont have quite as much speed, quickness, athleticism, talent, intelligence, football IQ, work ethic, or as good instincts
Joe Dorben 😂😂😂
Joe Dorben 😂😂😂 I like that!
Lmao!!
Honestly a lot of these were terrible throws lol
@@daleatsoverton3677 Ya but they also left out a lot of much better plays, they put too much emphasis on gross overthrows, underthrows, and tipped balls
🤣 Lateral to Haloti Ngata was golden. I think this was an underrated ability too - him always seeming to know when there was a guy around who could get some more yardage.
Haloti played rugby before he got drafted, so not the worst player to toss it to.
I love Baldy's breakdowns. I don't know how this man is not a coach. If you look up ball hawk in the dictionary, it will simply say Ed Reed. The most complete safety the game will ever see. Elite IQ, elite hands, elite return skills, elite instincts, hard hitter, leader, mentor and on field coach. The GOAT 🐐 💜🖤. There will never be another duo like #20 and #52 Sugar and Quick, Ray and Ed, Thunder and lightning 🌩️⚡
Ed was really out there doin whatever he wanted LOL #goat #proCanes
Being a Steelers fan we had to play these guys 2, sometimes 3 times a year. Believe the hype kids. This is the best player to ever play the position.
The best thing about Ed was you just knew he's gonna make a play to save the day. Someway, somehow. It was inevitable. It was like watching a superhero lol
This man is so great to watch!😍
Beautiful breakdown of Reed‘s plays!👍🏻
I miss Ed Reed. Tipped balls, you knew he wasn't far away. Sometimes he wasn't even in the frame of the TV yet but you knew he was there. Im telling you it seemed 9 out of ten times he'd intercept the pass. I mean a bad year for him was like 6 INTs. You'd be like oh, he had a down year. He was the best player on that defense for most of the time he played. Out of all the Ravens defenses from about 20 years of great defense I miss him most. There will never be another Ed Reed.
On the pick at 2:30 he wasn't out of bounds, he flipped it to McAlister before stepping out. McAlister had a lot of open field and was a great returner himself. This was the 2006 playoffs and if the refs would have just let this play go the outcome could have very well been different. The Colts won the super bowl 2 games later, but that was one of the best Ravens teams.
Great video! One of the best things about being a Ravens fan was watching Ed Reed. That pick against Kevin Kolb and the Eagles might be my favorite.
My favorite player of all time blessed to have been able to watch him
this was an amazing video. well done all around
More of these type of videos please
4:00 “Ohh, he loved tipped balls”
Pretty sus
I think the best part of watching ed reed play is you can just tell that he loves his position and has thought of every little thing he could do to keep improving at it
The most underrated receiver in NFL history.
He didn't show one of his trademarks. Early in his career he was great at blocking kicks, Punts especially. I think he did it like 3-4 times in his first 2-3 seasons. He was amazing. As a Ravens fan you always knew we weren't gonna get lit up by nobody because of him, and guys like Chris McCallister, Samari Rolle...For 20 years the Ravens had like no offense but were in EVERY game. Earlier this year they got blown out by Cleveland and it was really odd because most Ravens fans have NEVER seen that. It literally doesn't happen. Since like 2000, the Ravens, every week, in just about every game are in the game until the end. That's amazing.
Loves playing the best. They're so smart that he could predict their moves. The GOAT!
A great breakdown and an even better player.
The most electric defensive player in the league period! Now Baltimore is blessed with the most electric player on offense in Lamar Jackson! The two players you cannot stop watching. Worth twice the price of admission.
I've always felt like Lamar would have an Ed Reed impact ever since he got drafted. They were both doubted similarly coming out of College..
Perhaps the best ball hawk ever! This guy was such an athlete with such a nose for the ball he could do it all picks picks to the house strips blitz sacks fumble recoveries cover deep cover shallow and lay huge hits. Did it his whole career against some of the best ever like Manning and Brady!
LOVE baldys breakdowns!
I've been a Packers fan for life but Reed was always my favorite to watch the plays hes made and how he makes them is what made me want to play defense him and DBs like Charles Woodson even Nick Collins before he suffered a career ending injury i love watching a smash mouth defense over a high powered offense hoping the Packers defense can turn things around this year been a rough two seasons.
I absolutely love Baldys breakdowns!!!
wow what amazing breakdown....Ed was a beast of a player so intellegent.
This guy has solid, concrete analysis...
Impressive, I look forward to his views on ANY subject...
And Reed is a bonafide GOA....
Just a damn good player..
A player you want to play with...
So comfortable in thier abilities...
Ed Reed is...
Timeless...
(Great video/editing btw... well done. )
That was really good!! I would love to see more of these, and I would like to see some Offensive Linemen plays too.
His skillset was so deep..so many ways he was dangerous
The Greatest to do it. Loved watching him
So dope.... Also after watching all these break downs. I really like baldy
Pitts and Balto tough rivalry. The Steelers hate the Ravens but real football fans everywhere loved and appreciated Ed Reed's work. Yes, even in Steel country.
His name is EDWARD REED for a REEson; it means "Ed-Would Read"
Definitely tied, for best coverage safety ever, with Krause.
BEST "All-Around Safety" EVER is too close for me too choose with Ronnie Lott and Brian Dawkins.
Reed is fav but dawkins and lott are up there as well for me. I liked Nick Collins a lot too
Reed is the single greatest free safety to ever play and it’s not close. Lott and Dawkins were more natural SS.
As a Day 1 Ravens fan I just Marvel at how lucky I was to witness both the G.O.A.T. Middle Linebacker and the G.O.A.T. Free Safety play side-by-side each week!!
I love Baldy Breakdowns he's one of the best to me.
THIS IS SUCH A PHENOMENAL BREAKDOWN. Can you please do Revis???
Facts and plz do revis and Charles Woodson
Ed Reed is freaking insane
Great break down !
I remember all them interceptions! Ed Reed the goat 💪🏼🏈💜🖤💜🖤
man i miss seeing #20 and #52 on the field. best LB- FS duo ever.
Need more videos like this
The commentary is perfect
Ed Reed aka "ed ReEd" actually had 14 total touchdowns in his career - including the one in playoffs @ Miami - via interceptions, fumbles, block𝙀𝙙 punts & a return𝙀𝙙 punt (the only player in NFL history to achieve said feat of scoring in each of these 4 different ways). Plus, he also once scored by way of hand-off - following an interception - from fellow DB teammate, CB Samari Rolle. Thus, he did NOT score a total of ten times, as was proclaimed by Brian Baldinger during this film breakdown! Additionally, the aforementioned fumbles were forced by Ed himself, and he also accounted for all 3 of his own block𝙀𝙙 punt return touchdowns! What a special individual, both on and off the field!
He was a complete monster on the field. He could see right through the QB fakes and played mind games with them
I think he was referring to TDs off of INTs. He was great on kick offs and FGs as well. Dude was just amazing.
Nobody asked for this..... but i didn’t know I needed this lol ED’s the best safety this century! So dominant!!
His instincts and smarts are inhumane!! It’s like he was a psychic. Definitely best FS of all time
His* highlights can go on for hours. Brilliant!
Goosebumps!! 🐐
My favorite player...the beast to do it !!!!
You know you are good when you have Bill B extolling your abilities
im 31 years old, i am very very lucky i grew up at the time i did, watching ravens and the legendary defence from start and untill their end. That team is the reason i am still watching today, even though the game has changed a lot.
LEGEND
Ed Reed is an absolute legend!
I would always get nervous because when Ed would pick the ball off and start running he would palm the football instead of tucking it in, he obviously knew what he was doing though Congratulations to The Hall of Famer Ed Reed
Jordan Davis I remember trying to mimic him in high school we would play in the field next to our school and I’d pick off the ball and palm it and it would just slip right out of my small ass hands lol
@@RJBuildsPcs 😂😂that's what I thought was gonna happen to Ed, or somebody would knock it outta his hand
@@jordan12118 It's definitely happened to him before. I believe in his rookie year he was about to take one back to the house and then it got knocked out for a touchback lmao
Michael Vick was the worst
YayoUltimatewarrior GoatmanJenson I remember when he used to do it. I used to get nervous watching him too
Great job Baldy!
It’s well documented the sessions that Ed and Ray held for film studying. Those guys treated X’s and O’s like how scientists are trying to figure out and get around to cures for the next ailment/disease and such. Film study has often been swiped aside by a lot of players and dismissed as boring, but those guys took their craft so seriously, it was impressive to watch them during their peak. I don’t think I’ve ever witnessed another tandem in NFL history that worked in synergy as those two. It was Beethoven and Mozart in motion.
This era of NFL = ♥️
Not to mention the classic Miami hurricane 🌀 games!
Just always seemed like Reed was at the right place at the right time watching him growing up. I watch this and somehow he soul reads the QB 40 yards away. Reason whys he's a HOF. Stats speak for themselves

Chris Mccalister has a good run to

Agree, greatest FS to ever play the game!
I love how Belichick broke down that first play with Peyton against Ed. All three of them are definite students of the game.
“He covered Roy Williams on that play WITHOUT LOOKING at Roy Williams.” Also, I love how he was focused on gaining territory after every interception. It wasn’t enough for him to pick it off. He had to get yards and help out the offense as well. And he was phenomenal at that.
If you find the original video of belichick breaking that play down he talks about how earlier in the year Reed played that defense a certain way to make sure it was on film to bait Peyton into that throw
Segev Goldberg oh wow! That’s definitely a chess move.
God the NFL has gotten so much better at these videos. They used to be half interview, half coaching lesson, half highlight real. And all bullshit, now we can actually see the play. Good work team
