1. BMI above 25 - particularly fat around the belly button.
2. Built up skin, skin tags or darkened skin. As well as common Yeast infections.
3. Bloated ankles.
4. Hairy toes are healthy toes.
5. Thumb shinbone test - thumbprint remains after holding tightly on the area.
6. During digestion of carbs - Speech is slurred, slower cadence when speaking.
7. Dr.Boz ratio - morning glucose divided by ketones. 40-80 questionable, 100+ you have insulin resistance.

Well, @RS-chino, Slurred speech means you are awake so anyone with slurred speech is healthier than me :)

Define fat around belly button. “Fat is subjective”. How much hair should be on toes? Be more specific. When doing the thumb test how hard should you push in? How long do you push in? How long is too long for the skin to be indented after? Very vague.
I’ve had the dark skin folds Acanthosis Nigracans on my neck, armpits and groin area for over 40 years and was only told by dermatologists that I needed to lose weight but was never explained that high insulin levels were the cause, nor that it would lead to diabetes. Years later when I worked diligently to lower my glucose levels, the Acanthosis disappeared. Acanthosis is just a symptom of high insulin levels.
😮
Weight doesn't really cause diabetes. It is a symptom of metabolic issues that already exist. Further, a person can be thin and sick, or chubby and healthy. Many diabetics are thin.
Yep, same for me.
Thanks a lot for info 🙏
@@UTAH100 No, I’m not saying that diabetes was caused by weight. I’m saying that I had very high insulin levels. Insulin resistance, that caused the Acanthosis not diabetes. I wasn’t diagnosed with DM until another 40 years later. I actually had Acanthosis when I was very underweight too.
Since I started researching insulin resistance , I have never come across most of what Dr Boz shared in this video . Precise , straight to the point info . Thanks Doc !
You might enjoy Dr. Jamnadas too. He's a cardiologist. Great lectures.
Maybe it’s not real!
Then you have NOT researched enough my friend!! I found her video VERY dangerous to advertise you can tell someone has IR across the room?!?
Ok, but she’s not telling anyone that being diabetic is NOT the only reason ppl are IR. Like me. I don’t have diabetes. Yet I’m IR. This lady is giving out half-assed information! 🤦🏻♀️
I laughed at the hair under the toes. it must be for people who are about to lose a limb.
This video was the perfect length 5 mins! And can’t believe the amount of useful info it has. Thank you Dr!!
I remember my mom (who was a diabetic for over 40yrs) would test her shins. Now I know why. Thank you Dr. Boz
Why would she have to test for it that way if she already had diabetes?
That shin test! I thought it was a joke, but mine showed the thumbprint! I am horrified and will change my eating habits immediately. Thank you so much for these. New fan, have subscribed.
I thought mine was just from fat…😮
Bro, press down hard enough on anyone’s shim and it’ll leave a print. lol
@@SolveForX you’re missing the point. Healthy people bounce right back! The indentation doesn’t stay there.
@@SolveForX yeh, I couldn't eat any healthier than I do and the imprint lasted over a second. It might be just age?
So I
I cant do Keto but did IF and lowering carbs 50-100 on average and lost 30 lbs Not eating at night (snacks) helped a lot (but was hard) and less carbs for dinner.
Yes nighttime eating is hard not to do fir sure
But isn’t that Keto ? What’s the difference ?
@@justasimplesomeone Keto is usually under 50grams of carbs a day, pretty low while low carb is under 150 for some, under 100 is more common. I found for me 50-100 worked the best.
Do no fat during the day, fruit for breakfast, carb focused lunch with no fat, and fat and protein for dinner. Fat blocks insulin receptor sites. If you finish dinner at six and don’t eat breakfast till 9, you get 15 hours of fasting and insulin response is much better. I literally can have beverages or fat free snacks with high sugar content and have zero crash, only energy. Been doing this for 13 years. Keep fat lower than 30g a day. I actually have to eat 30g fat a day and 2500 cals now to ensure I don’t get too little body fat.
@@tropicaoptica That is so interesting because I LOVE fruit in the morning on an empty stomach and have no problems with it UNLESS I eat it after fat or protein, and then I get a crash. So if I do fruit in the morning after 15 hour fast and have protein and fat and very little carb in the afternoon ( at lease two hours after) I should be good right?....or am I missing something?
So, I was keto for the last 6 years or so and, due to being sedentary, lost 20lbs of muscle this winter. So I tried carbs this last month and... dang... I feel like a lumbering sloth. Brain's fuzzy, headaches like crazy, get cold easier. It really sucks. Keto just works for me.
A doctor 10yrs ago saw the back of my neck and asked if i had diabetes in my family or if i was diabetic. I said no to having it and yes to family history..turns out I was right on the cusp.
This is a great video not only about IR but medical practice. Too often, doctors don't pay attention, don't talk to patients, don't examine them and just order imaging or laboratory results in order to let the tests tell them what's wrong. Medical intuition is a sign of someone thinking about the problem, putting together the pieces of the puzzle. Images and analyses are supposed to confirm or rule out a diagnosis.
This short and concise message has helped me save my health, thank you Dr Boz.
I lost the skin tags and yeast after going keto, never had the other issues that I am aware of.
Best, most concise, most quick and to the point explanation ever! Thank you!

I have started your circadian rhythm eating pattern in my keto lifestyle.
Love your clear and succinct explanations.
What is circadian eating?
@@CG-mj8tkGoogle it
I just started doing circadian rhythm too. I go outside and stare at the sun as soon as it starts to rise. I walk 10-12 minutes during that time. I usually fall asleep by the time the sun goes down. I still only sleep a few hours every night, though.
Thank you Dr. Boz for this information. Greatly appreciated.
Omg these are spot on I need to get too work. No one has ever mentioned any of this in videos I have watched because I have been on the fence on doing keto but now no longer on the fence. I love this channel, it's straight forward and no non sencmse excelle t advice and information. Thank you so much.
Excellent comprehensive video, Doctor! Thank you for the information that anyone can follow!
SO informative, I watched it 2x. Learned a great amount that was never told anywhere else.
Just fantastic.
Not many GPs know about this excellent test.
This is so informative. I'm a bit odd. I know in my heart I'm Insulin resistant. I've never had sugar issues and my lipids are also good, oddly. But, I do have a fatty liver, a big tummy and skinny legs like my mom did. No ankle swelling, but I go into a coma if I eat carbs. Literally, almost unwakeable.. kind of scary to be honest. I do have autoimmune, so that causes inflammation flares. I have just started watching these videos the last week and love the information. I'm 57 and will be 58 in 6 days, I do look younger than my age, but in those tests for endurance or getting up from the floor, I fail miserably, I'm probably 110 according to those 😂. I hope I can keep learning and have my best life in the years to come! Thank you for these videos!!!! From the bottom of my heart ❤
I used to have fatty liver and I juiced celery juice form a whole celery every morning for a couple weeks and waited 30 min to eat breakfast. I got the info from the medical medium guy who was popular a few years back for liver detoxing.
Just thought I’d pass along something that worked for me. Right after that, I lost my last few pounds and have been skinny since.
I can’t stand to eat carbs now, right after I anything with carbs, I fall asleep no matter what. 😢
Outstanding video! Straight to the point and possibly lifesaving for some!
The best descriptions of insulin resistance signs. Thank you 😊
found this channel after I started doing fasting because I am not happy with my weight and where my A1C is. The fasting was kinda rough to start but after doing it for a few days it gets easier and you definitely feel better.
Got my first skin tag this year. Yikes! I dont have cankles, pass the shin test, BMI is at 31. Been pre-diabetic most of my adult life but I feel I'm in the insulin resistant crowd. Cutting dow my carb intake has me 5 lbs lighter so I will continue this journey.
Hi there! You may be like me! Insulin resistant and Not diabetic!! 😊
You can also get IR from something called PCOS(poly cystic ovarian syndrome), or from adrenal fatigue.
Try googling those 2 things, see if the symptoms feel even more “right”… there’s supplements that help drastically with insulin resistance, because it can be reversed if you do have it! You’ve already done the first part!! Plenty protein, healthy fats, very little carbs. Protein and veggies do not set off insulin the way carbs do,which is the issue. But check out a supplement called inositol, it makes your cells “sensitive” to insulin again!! I also take another to help with my liver and respiratory support. NAC, it’s called, an acronym for a looooong named supplement, but the food change, and supplements- I’ve never felt better in years. I hope your doing well, and if there’s anything you’d like to know, just ask!! But if you like, definitely look up PCOS and adrenal fatigue..this lady is going to confuse ppl, because she only says you get this from diabetes!😂🤦🏻♀️
What's ur age, is the skin tag still there
@directajith No, it is gone. I started excersizing and trying to cut down on sugars aka carbs.
Dr Boz is the prettiest doc on CZcams.
Ugh I used to be fat when I was in high school and first 2 yrs in college and when I realised I didn’t want to be a teacher anymore and instead be a lawman, I needed to lose weight. So I did and the difference in 2 years was amazing. And now I’m 33 I look better than when I was 19 and 20. The best thing to do is reduce sugar, increase vitamin D3, B complex, omega3s, magnesium, potassium, and all that stuff and be active by just walking a lot. Insulin resistance is ugly and horrible. May God give us good health.
you should not larf at fat people!

I was having signs of insulin resistance until my wife and I started cutting carbs and increasing protein. At first I yo-yoed in weight but I now I am 5 lbs lighter, she is 30 lbs lighter, and our insulin resistance signs are decreasing. We need to work on it more but keeping the same weight year after year is a goal in of itself.
its not priority to increase protein, just increase good fat like butter and eggs, eat less carbs and products like wheat which cause high insulin spikes
I agree ,carbs is a huge factor in raising insulin so cut that out and opt for healthy carbs instead. That's what I did and after two years I don't have insulin resistance.
@@craigdendy5762 Some carbs are healthy when the person eating them is healthy.

This woman is a Saint, I followed her advice on keto, and went from 213 down to 169 and it was relatively easy. The most important lesson she taught me was how dangerous sugar is!!!
I think that she has a video fruit is evil, anyone serious about their health should watch!! Much love and peace Dr. Boz!!! Thank you 😊
Only Americans have issues with fruit, many cultures and animal species eat high fruit and complex carbs diets and remain slim(e.g. Japan, India). The problem is that Americans don't exercise everyday(e.g. bicycle, long walks) and we don't eat mostly complex carbs with fiber(e.g. potatoes, rice)but too much simple carbs(e.g. cakes, cookies, ice cream) and/or fast foods which are loaded with various types of sugars(e.g. corn syrup). Fruit is a superior food with "live" nutrients compared to eating dead animals. I am not a vegetarian but I think it is reckless to say that fruit is evil when actually the standard American diet(SAD) is "evil" and the cause of obesity and chronic diseases(e.g. coronary heart disease, colon cancer).
@@daw7773 👏👏👏

Yeah I'm not with you on the fruit. It has many benefits and micronutrients. But obviously one wouldn't just sit and eat a whole pineapple or a whole cluster of grapes! Fruit is much better than refined flour or sugar
Berries are the healthiest I believe 😀👍
Good to know. I don't have any of these signs. And I don't get tires. I don't do strict Keto but I eat very little Carbs, and basically do IF as a normal thing. Late breakfast, early dinner, no snacks.

I did keto for about 5 months and lost 25lbs with last weigh in (I was not super ocd about it. Like once a month). I just took myself off to shock my system so it doesn't get used to it and I've been sick for a week. I'm about to go back on to keto....I can't feel sick any more. I never felt sick on keto.
I have had hairy toes ALL of my life even after being diagnosed T2D and after fasting insulin was less than 5.

You're REALLY in trouble if your toes and skin generally looks 'waxy'. See this often in nursing home patients.
I’m certified in manual lymphatic drainage, Vodder Technique. And I’m also educating people how to keep that extra fluid moving so it doesn’t set up shop. That extra fluid means your body is working extra overtime to repair it’s self, and it can’t handle the work load.
Right- ok, but you advocate to breath in toxic heated oils...hmmm. Not very credible IMHO.
So that means it's time to fast
@@jaredpatterson1701 not always. Fasting isn’t going to move that extra fluid through the lymphatic system.

I would love for her to do a video on gestational diabetes. When I was pregnant I failed my glucose tolerance pretty significantly but my fasting and postprandial glucose levels were always fine, provided I ate reasonably well. I have beautiful ankles, always have. Even 100 pounds overweight LOL

For me, central obesity is the lighthouse beacon when I look at others
Very well explained.
I know a lot of people who all their life in fact have had what is largely considered to be a very healthy diet, who do not overeat, who do not in fact consume sugars, and sweets worth at all mentioning, suffering from all these problems like, headaches, swollen feet, arthritis, sinusitis, bp, sugar, .... .
There is always a perfect explanation for everything but such an explanation is not so commonly sought for, and not so easily found, never by an imperfect individial.
Yes health and medicine is always a very precise, exact and a subtle science and an art, but such subtlety is never in the clasp of an unsubtle individual.
Neither is true knowledge merely the viewpoint of an optimist who always sees the glass as half full, or the view point of the opportunist who always sees in it a personal profit.
True light is not visible to one who chooses to be blind.
Unless one choose to be perfect in oneself, one will never have access to ,and never acquire a perfect knowledge and a perfect understanding of anything.
This perfect code is not so easy to perfectly crack, hack, jack.
No harm in trying though. Nothing wrong with that at all.
From Dr. Berry i heard that insuline also increases the size of the prostate, in 80 percent of the cases.
You are spot on.. my wife and I started a insulin resistant diet and dropped 25 pounds in 2 months.1st week we threw away 80% of the processed crap out of our fridge and cabinets. We use Dr. Eric Berg CZcams to know more about insulin resistant and foods we should eat. Living in Colorado our big problem is buying quality green produce. We buy produce every other day. Its made a huge difference. It took about 3 months to get in a rhythm but it works. Again hardest thing in Colorado is quality produce.
You may want to look into growing your own micro greens, easy to do indoors, and sprouting, also easy to do.
You look great and healthy!

In all honesty, your fasting glucose alone gives you a pretty good idea. Under 100 is considered normal, 100-125 is prediabetic, and anything 126+ indicates full-blown diabetes.
Also, a lot of these symptoms may not show up until you're already diabetic. Relying on these alone is no substitute for regular check-ups.
