I eat sardines in EV olive oil every 3rd day for breakfast. I sprinkle them with fresh ground black pepper, turmeric and a pinch of cayenne pepper. I keep my carbs under 30, no sugar, no processed foods. I only eat grass fed beef, chicken and free range organic eggs. Fresh vegetables (steamed), fresh salad with home made salad dressing. I take 1 1/2 tablespoons of Chia seeds per day in either unsweetened Greek yogurt or I make a Chia pudding with the seeds, filtered water, monk fruit drops and some fresh blueberries. I take 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar (raw, unfiltered, organic) 1/2 hour before meals. My morning dose includes 1 tablespoon of organic lemon juice. Since I started this routine 6 months ago I have lost 25 pounds (don't want to lose any more), sleep better, have explosive energy, no inflammation or joint pain, cut my own grass (1 acre), trim my own bushes and I get up on the roof and clean my own gutters. I am rarely hungry and feel great. I am 76 years old. My friends think I am crazy and tell me that I have bought into the conspiracy theories with respect to nutrition. As Mark Twain once said: "It is easier to fool people than it is to convince them that they have been fooled". When we break up these gatherings, I am the only one who doesn't waddle home. Yet they still cannot connect the dots. 😁

Thank You! These diets definitely work and do so much more than slim you down. I look at it this way: The extra cost of high quality foods is offset with fewer co-pays, out of pocket deductibles, insanely priced drugs and not having to spend any time sitting in crowded waiting rooms with sick people waiting to see a doctor for some arcane ailment that didn't exist prior to the advent of processed and refined foods. It's a win/win IMHO. Here's to your health! @@karenbuchert3377

I've strictly kept OMAD to about a 1-2 hour window every day for a year and a half, along with staying under 20 grams of carbs each day. Sometimes well under. It's been easy to do, if you eat the proper food that's all you need, no hunger, no cravings. The results are nothing short of a miracle. Thank you for this sound advice. I am an insulin resistant physician and after failing to respond to metformin, some colleagues who are able to think outside the box advised me to follow a ketogenic diet with 20g carbs per day and intermittent fasting. My blood sugar was immediately controlled and HbA1C normalised. I had no more hunger pangs or fatigue and easily followed OMAD or a 8/16 IF. I went on to loose 30 kg, and have maintained it over the last 6 years. My triglycerides are very low, partially replaced by LDL (which is a triglyceride attached to a cholesterol vehicle).
I occasionally indulge in carbs which are followed by hunger pangs and fatigue, reminding me that I am still insulin resistant for whatever reason, surviving on ketones

I am at 4:50 and I just said Splat! This explains why I’m tired, or just can’t get up the bouncy energy to do things like I used to. I’ve told the doctor. I’ve told the herbalist. I’ve told the acupuncturist. I even demanded for nutritional advice and the lady rudely told me that eating before bed was the worst thing I could possibly do, and the same for eating an entire egg yolk and white. In the UCLA System she was it for nutritional help. (if I have progressed to diabetes I might’ve had more resources but I don’t intend to go there)
Dr. Mindy is clearer less repetitive unless pushy and less strand in her voice in this video compared to other videos. That makes her easier to listen to which makes it possible to understand what she is saying.
Take a note my dear. I’ve had similar advice myself.

Just watched your video from 4 yrs ago where the guy had to go to OMEOD. When he went to OMAD his blood sugars went right back up. Do we need to be careful how much we restrict ourselves or it sabotages us? Does our body start to expect that much restriction to not gain weight or our blood sugars to improve? I’ve also seen OMEOD backfire in compulsive bingeing. Is that unique? I’ve gone from keto four years to carnivore recently, but reluctantly, because I don’t want to be carnivore for the rest of my life. For now it’s improving my everyday life, but forever?

When I approach the 48 hours point my cognitive facility declines a bit that is noticeable when I study. should this be a concern. My target fasting time is 48 hours.
I am 69 years old and had metabolic problems along with the type2. That was 8 months ago. Most of this has reversed and I lost 40 pounds. I now eat between 30 and 50 grams of carbs a day with an eighteen-hour intermittent period but was disappointed when my A1C was 5.6. Do you think I should include some Keto periods, and for how long should they be?

I love this explanation as to how a cell pulls in glucose. I have a question as to metabolism of fat and ketone. What hormone brings a ketone into the cell, if it isn't insulin? You say ketones don't need insulin to enter a cell, but there has to be something that allows ketones to funnel in to the cell. What is that?

I mean its kinda like saying I fixed my lactose intolerance by not eating lactose nope you still can't eat lactose , not saying keto/carnivore can't help people but it does not help the body actually process sugar ..in fact it worsens it .

We went and had our fasting insulin tested a few weeks ago, but I don't know what are good numbers. The chart showed 26 was the top end, but ours was less than 10, so what are good numbers?

Measuring insulin is expensive and the values go up and down easily. Dr Boz says to measure blood glucose and blood ketones to indicate insulin levels. Calculate Dr Boz ratio of glucose divided by ketones, a value below 40 is really good and indicates autophagy too

Stick to animal fats - they don't raise blood sugar and they are nutrient dense and very filling.
      Vegetables have carbs in them.
Don't eat carbs unless you want to be sleepy all the time.
Protein also raises bloody sugar but not as much as carbs.
Butter and bacon grease are your best friend - add them to every meal.

My question is are the change permanent? If I go back to eating normally, will I immediately go back to IR? I could be motivated with a permanent change

    • @GoingGreenMom
      @GoingGreenMom Před 2 měsíci +1

Probably not helpful since you appear to be a guy, but if you'll notice, the ones that successfully fixed the IR were men, the ones that didn't were women. Personal opinion, you might want to get a micronutrient test to see if you have hit a wall because you are depleted in the things used to process the glucose. Several minerals affect this. Zinc, but I'm not exactly certain what it is used for. Chromium is used to make the insulin receptors (as well as B3), Other things I've turned up showing deficient in after working on insulin resistance for 18 months are boron, vanadium, choline, DHA, several amino acids, B2, and B5. When I looked it up, all were used either in processing glucose or collagen production (I have a connective tissue disorder as well), or both.

Can you be explicit about interaction between insulin and 0:03 uric acid and gout and ketones? I am getting the impression fasting may be keeping my uric acid levels high in 8-11’s ….I can only lower glucose if I intermittent fast and keep carbs under 50. I rarely have ketones above .5…..I have chronic gout now and doc has me on Prednisone. This med is taking away all possibility of progress. I have been doing paleo/keto for a few years, have metabolic syndrome, had heart attack 10 years ago, and have managed to lose25 pounds but am unhealthier than ever. I have fibromyalgia and am often bedridden. I need help, resist drugs generally because they make me sick. Fatty meat, fish and eggs or MCT oil fat for 4 months now.
Only add 1 cup total per day of raw non starchy vegetables: red cabbage, green beans, cawliflower, broccoli, asparagus or 1 small hass avocado as my gut microbiome carbohydrate. I spread it throughout the day 99% of time I do raw because cooked seems to elevate my blood sugar.
Blood sugar has ranged from 151-85. I only saw 85 ish 2x. It's been averaging 110-115.
Ketones stay around .3-.5 but only if I do 4-6 tbl MCT everyday. Without MCT they are maybe .1
I was low carb ( under 60 of low carb non starchy raw vegetables)/ high fat chia, hemp hearts, walnuts mostly/medium protein low fat organic cottage cheese or greek yogurt for many years (20+) but I had weekly binges on Ezekiel bread with olive oil, raw nuts, peanut butter, grapefruits...as a low carb diet still caused massive cravings and binge cycles for me. I exercise everyday always have. I walk 4 miles minimum plus isometrics at home or I lift slow but heavy weights at gym. ( did body building routine workouts since 19 years old) I am 57, 5'6" 145 lb on this all fatty meat and fats diet. I can stay around 132-135 on the low carb high raw vegetables with cod, salmon, turkey occasional burger albiet I was not in keto. My homeade dressing was chia seed, hemp heart, walnut, lemon, ACV, small green apple ( my only carb and the recipe made 3-4 days of dressing), fresh garlic, fresh onion).
Other than evening cravings I felt great on my raw vegan with the slightly more lean meat. I never got constipated which I live with now. MCT makes it worse but that's the only way I can make ketones. I changed to this diet to heal my hormones and stop the cravings and binges, and to be stronger emotionally. I've done Atkins fat fasts throughout the years since my 20s to strengthen emotional health and keep brain stronger but the last 7 years have been a challenge with a family related trauma. I need more help with getting and staying in keto but not sure how else I can change except to only drink MCT oil. I did try 6 small meals of 2 egg yolks dipped in 2 tbl lard (or equivalent macros using pork belly or fatty beef) for the last 2 months. I gained 6 lb and energy was up and down. Sometimes fat gives me a spike in blood sugar and a crash like fruit does. I'm at a loss. I am not a large person but I have cellulite on arms, belly, legs, butt. The thin-ish woman giggle even though I work harder at being lean than anyone I know tells me something is not right.

Dr.Boz I feel like I am stuck. I’m confused, and freaked out. I am 20 years old, I’m a calisthenics athlete who is passionate about strength exercises and I don’t want to take a statin. However my total cholesterol was around 300 before I went keto. My trygicerides around 100 and my HDL around 60 and total LDL was around 240. Idk what kind of LDL good or bad but my doctor says I’m screwdwdd if o don’t take a statin. The internet says I’m screwed if I do keto. But I am 4 weeks into Ketosis anyway and I actually feel much better, more energy, my Brian feels sharp im even stronger. But I’m almost sure next time I check my cholesterol it’s going to be through the roof and of extreme concern to my doctor. Am I in danger? Like how can I still try to build muscle and excel in my goals and not have to worry about a heart attack. Is keto safe for me or am I just destined for a life of statin induced muscle pain. Without much benefit

Look into the Carnivore diet. There is a lot of information out there and it's hard to sift through all the material and know what's good and not.
Many practicing carnivore people and medical professionals on that side will say that you will get high cholesterol and LDL but that those don't increase your chance of heart attack anymore than a person with low cholesterol and low LDL.
I wish I had a specific video but I've seen so many it would be hard to back track.
The carnivore people did say that the ratio of cholesterol to LDL is important to stay in a certain ratio/window but they will both still be high.

I would like to say what others are thinking.
Dr. Boz, where the hell did you come from? We need more women like you!!! We need to clone you.
The biggest pushback I have gotten on keto or carnivore is women. They tell me point blank they will not give up carbohydrates. They will not even try.
What is your suggestion to say to these people, normally I just walk away and forget about them. But one of them is my mother.
What makes me angry is eating carbohydrates is the path to Alzheimers. I am sure my mother expects care when this happens.
This situation is analogous to an alcoholic wanting care when their liver cirrhosis is bad. This situation makes me angry.
Please help Dr. Boz!!! I am completely carnivorous, I eat only lamb and beef. I am thin now, yet my example does nothing. My mother has kidney stones and bone spurs. Those two things are caused by her consumption of high oxalates plant foods. How do I know, I was subjected to these foods as a child.
She knows the truth yet refuses to stop eating these plant foods and carbohydrates.
    Please help Dr. Boz.

It's foolish to stop ALL carbohydrates. Your BRAIN needs carbohydrates; you have to avoid the simple carbohydrates and consume the healthier complex carbohydrates. It's NOT healthy to just live on meats and fats. To be in constant ketosis is NOT HEALTHY. Vegetables are not your enemy. Intermittent fasting and sensible eating with lean protein, vegetables and exercise is much better for good health than just eating "carnivore" nothing but FATTY meats. You're destroying your kidneys, slowly but surely. I am a Nurse Practitioner BTW and I like naturopathic solutions but I would not recommend a Carnivore Diet. You can't just eat meat indefinitely and there are vegans and vegetarians who are just as healthy and slim, and they don't gorge themselves on meat or keto products full of chemicals.

Hi Dr. Boz. I have a very important question, but I don't know how to ask it, except on this recent video. I did ask it in a different video(Ketosis and Kidneys: Setting the Record Straight), but it is from 5 y ears ago, so I wasn't sure if you would get it. It is imperative that I get an answer, as I believe I am days away from getting lab results and I want to know the truth about what I should eat and do now. I will copy and paste the question I asked, below. Thank you in advance for hearing me and taking the time to answer.
    Here is that question:
I am pretty sure, from my many symptoms, that I have kidney disease....terrible swelling in ankles and feet, urine output very erratic, pain in the lower back and abdomen, as well as high levels of protein found in the first urine sample I gave at the Dr's office, to name just a few. I got Lab Work and ultrasounds done, and am waiting those results. I have been on Keto for 36 days to lose weight, but now I know I have to be careful about my protein intake. Thank you for the easy-to-understand video. The only thing missing, is what DO we eat then. There is so much conflicting info. about it, and I am confused. What treatments should I agree too? Please help, because I know I will be needing this information. I don't trust conventional medicine, so I am feeling a little lost already.
