The iPad FINALLY Makes Sense!

  • When Apple released the 10th gen iPad, it didn't make a lot of sense, it was really close in price point to the iPad Air at $450, only supported the first generation Apple Pencil, and had a new camera design that wasn't on any of the other iPads... however after a price drop and a new Apple Pencil, this iPad finally makes sense.

That’s true but I think you’ll have to upgrade faster than the updates make you because of the lack of the compatibility with the older iPads with Apple Pencil pro and the newer Magic Keyboard.
      There’s a double acceleration factor.
I’d argue to just buy the newest iPad that just came out today because the double acceleration factor is going to make your “moneys worth of a deal” turn into “pissing into the wind”

I bought this iPad to replace the 9th gen I had. I don’t use it for anything other than media consumption and light gaming … very light. So, yeah, it has solved a lot issues I had with the old iPad design like getting rid of the home button, landscape stereo speakers, a better camera (for the best best camera is the one you have on you…), landscape front facing camera, and I kept my 1st gen Apple penci an bough tthe 9 dollar adapter and charge it with a USB-C cable so now I have nothing that uses lightning anymore and can get rid of all of my lighting cables… that’s pretty cool.

Completely agree. The price drop for a 10th generation (10 iterations of Apple refinement remember) is an absolute game changer and no brainer. Pair with the Apple Pencil USB and I’d highly recommend the Logitech Touch combo keyboard case - (at half the price of the Apple keyboard) you’ve got yourself the iPad / laptop experience at a price that is more akin to a mid range Android tablet. For 90 percent of people this combination can give you everything you need. Great review and brilliant observation.

However, if you already own like myself an older classic basic iPad 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th or 8th generation version then, I would pass on this newer model and, just pick-up a basic iPad 9th generation. Why? Because, your wired headphones will continue to work, all your lighting adapters will continue to work, along with your Apple 1st generation pencil, plus this model also supports Apple's "Center Stage" function (smile...smile).

It does feel a bit flimsy but it just…works. I pull it out and jot down notes all the time no problem. I don’t understand the hate that surrounds this products, it’s perfectly fine for 90% of people. Storage for photos and music could be a problem for some with 64GB storage on the entry iPad. To boost iPad storage (256GB) pushes the price to $500.
The entry iPad Air has 128GB storage and costs $600. That makes the M2 Air a very acceptable alternative. Also, Logitech makes good keyboards for the Air which have function keys.

If someone is very disciplined with keeping everything neat and tidy and uses cloud storage for music, photos and videos, that wouldn't be a problem.

@@SPFboy86 ; I posted my comment because this video did a comparison between the new regular iPad and the iPad Air.
      And Greg asked for feedback.
I wrote “for some”. Why do “some” use less storage and others more storage. It is often not about discipline but usage and convenience with storage for any personal computing device depending on personal preference.
For a simple consumption device, a 32GB iPad could be adequate. I still regularly use a 32 GB iPod for just music. But I do more with my iPad than my iPod. But this is just me. Again, a person who has limited use can get by with 64GB of iPad storage.
It is well known that now an iPad can be a laptop replacement for almost all situations. A laptop often has apps such as for games, streaming, word processing, spreadsheets, etc. Just as that can take storage in a laptop (which is almost always greater than 64GB), this use can also use storage in an iPad.
What about cloud storage? I do use cloud storage for many things with over 32GB in iCloud. My wife has a lot more than that.
We have owned several iPads and currently have two 9th gen. both with the 256GB internal storage option.
When these iPads need to be replaced, we would consider the iPad Air.

And a great swap for my old iPad 6th Gen that I sold for $140. The whole upgrade costed me less than $500, the new 10th Gen iPad is fantastic, and does all the same things as the Pro! It needs another revision to the Apple Pencil so that it’ll magnetically hold and charge like the new Pro one with the horizontal camera. Leave out the other fancy artist features so it’s still under $100 and you have a more complete device for those who just want to use it for notes, annotation and casual sketching. Admittedly the USB-C one is an improvement though.

I have a question! I'm currently using an android tablet (Samsung S6 lite) and even though the s pen is not that amazing, it does have pressure sensitivity. I'm thinking to move on to the iPad 10th gen, since I use a macbook and I don't really need any fancy features because I only use it to take notes and watch videos. Do you think pressure sensitivity is crucial for note-taking? I want to know if it would feel awkward or bad to use a pen that doesn't have the pressure sensitivity feature when I'm really used to it.

This is the game Apple likes to play on pricing …. I was thinking about getting the iPad Pro but when I saw the release I wasn’t impressed. Sure it’s amazing but 1000$ for an iPad is insane. The 10th gen does everything 99% of people want from an iPad at 1/3 of the cost. Only downside is the storage. 64gb is NOT ENOUGH. I mean my 6th gen iPad worked fine the only reason I upgraded was because 32gb wasn’t enough to install more than 1 game. I’m sure I will run into this issue in a few years but then they will have a cheap m iPad for 350$ and the two iPad will still be cheaper than the pro.

I'm currently in iPad analysis-paralysis hell right now. I'm rocking an iPad Air 3 which is really showing its age. The tech geek in me really wants to go all in on the new iPad Pro, however, considering I just bought a new M3 Pro MacBook Pro, my budget is a little cramped. Since I'm not an artist, video editor, or music producer, my wallet is saying, "Just get the regular $350 iPad." My kids have these iPads for school already and they use them for all sorts of productivity tasks. However, the hollow, plasticky, thumping sound of the air gap whenever I touch the screen makes me cringe. And I really don't like the basic iPad's Magic Keyboard. It sticks out way too much and will probably hang off my desk and be annoying. The iPad Air would seem like a nice middle ground, but at that point if you factor in the iPad and the keyboard, you're at $1000 again and I might as well just get the Pro which has features I have come to appreciate and I'm already used to from my iPhone 15 Pro Max, like Pro Motion and Face ID, etc. It's SO jarring to me after using my phone to then go to my iPad Air. The 60hz becomes even more noticeable. And Touch ID is really annoying when you are used to Face ID on your iPhone. The perfect device for me would have been an iPad Air with Pro Motion and Face ID. I don't even need OLED or any of the other Pro features. Surely Apple knows this and that's why they haven't (and probably never will) add Pro Motion to the Air because they know that's the one feature users want and if they get it, they will never buy the Pro models (unless, of course, you are an artist or something).
So anyway, after all that said... Does it make sense to spend all that money on the iPad Pro when I'm not a "Pro" user just to have nice quality of life features like Face ID and Pro Motion, or should I just save money and get the regular iPad and try to force myself to live with it?

    • @wolfwoof2000

As an ipad user, the thing you would miss the most is external display. I use an ipad pro 2020 and I'm missing out on this (not M series chip uh Apple really).
Wait for refurbished ipad air or pro.
And yeah the 120hz does feel very nice too.
The speakers too are very nice, as good as a real audio speaker.

    • @Adamoji
      @Adamoji Před 14 dny

@@wolfwoof2000 Thanks for the comment, but I don’t really use an external display with my iPad. I have a MacBook Pro connected to dual screen monitors. So anything I would need a monitor for on the iPad can most likely be done on the MacBook. For me, the iPad is really just a companion device for when I don’t feel like unhooking my MacBook Pro from the dock and taking it with me. The iPad is more for getting work done while on the go, on the couch, in bed, etc. where a larger MacBook would be too cumbersome. I work from home so I use the MacBook probably 75% of the time. So the iPad would be for the other 25% when I’m not at a desk. So the question becomes: can you justify the price of an iPad Pro for that 25%, or do you suck it up and live with 60hz for that 25%?

I use it for cooking recipes, audio speaker, browsing, drawing. It's like a simpler laptop.
And you have your mobile apps, just slideover them and it's like you have a laptop with a mobile attached.
I see my ipad like this, it manages everything I need to do when I'm at home.

The new pen is clearly a joke on users. They spent a bunch of money on development instead of putting pen2 in it. Which, by the way, you can draw with because it is pressure sensitive.

Why? I think you lose pressure sensitivity and tilt sensitivity or something like that. I don't even know if double tap still works. It was a wild pencil release because it lost so many features. that if you're not using it for writing you're missing out and even if you use it for writing cuz you have a unique way you write you still missing out
