    Dang! I have not been paying enough attention to your channel mate! Not only a musical star, but an electronics and radio guy too? Wild! Upon returning to China I sold most of my gear, including my Baofeng, (knowing full well I could get another here easily enough) but I did bring my mini Nooelec unit with me! I shall have to start studying your videos more in order to learn a thing or two!! Awesome!! I wonder what the HAM situation is like in China.... There is a nearby market with literally hundreds of different units and gear!

      @sirant Před 11 měsíci +2

      Wow! Just checked pricing here. Same Baofeng unit I had in Canada is $13 dollars here..... Wow!

      @@sirant yes …. I got back to ham radio after 30 years away … I went to sea as a ships radio officer, so radio wasn’t gonna be a hobby as it was my day job. But now It is an awesome hobby and the tech is amazing! There are hams in China …. I’ve worked some stations. Not sure how easy the “ticket” is to get but there is heaps of gear. Look up XIEGU and the KN990 etc.

    Loved the intro music. Unfortunately, I had my speakers cranked to 11. Long story short, I am still mopping up beer. Great video. Thanks DE. VK4AEF

    I didnt get a notification. I love that setup. It's supposed to have superb receiving audio. For my needs, I think it's better than the 7300, but I will do more research. Im planning to go to Dayton Hamvention in May 2024 and will either come back with an HF radio or get the Hermes Lite 2, I think.
    I dont need CW for now. It's already way too much to learn for me. I am eagerly waiting to see how it works out for you but that screen looks damn impressive to me. I may get that 50w amp option or the Xiegu125 amp/tuner that costs a ship ton. Lol
    Take care talk soon George. :) 73

      I have had one of these for a couple of years and got a second one. Loved it so much I picked up an Anan 7000DLE (The radio from that Australian company 😉). I love these radios. My actual introduction was from my friend Tom VK5TOM who just kept badgering me to get one. I loved the radio so much I ordered one from Makerfabs and had them deliver it to Tom. They are marvelous radios. I think I need to do a video on the Hermes vs the Hermes Lite. I have both radios although I have waited over a year for the Hermes PA board from Apache Labs.

    If the kit supplier just provide this amazing kit with a ready made drilled body, it will save a lot headache and time.

    • @TheArtofEngineering
      @TheArtofEngineering  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Yes…. But it is barely a kit already, so a little pain, before the gain is fun! (Unless you wreck the thing🥹). I think maybe the hole is not drilled as the tolerances or position of components on the PCB might change? Thanks for the comment 73 de VK2AOE.

      Well ...6-7 weeks. They had stock but then the orders poured in. and they couldn't procure a part. They immediately emailed and offered a refund and promised to ship by a date (which I can't remember but they MORE than met that overestimated deadline). I opted to stay on list.....They kept me informed and emailed me when it was on the way (DHL)...Once on the way came fast! So if in stock, I imagine you would see it in a week or 2 73 de VK2AOE.

    I don’t understand why you would need a switch if all you’re doing is connecting the Hermes Lite 2 to your Mac. I believe the Hermes Lite 2 has a 1000 MB Ethernet port so you could plug a straight Ethernet cable between both and the NIcs will swap around the TX and RX pins so an Ethernet connection is established.

    • @TheArtofEngineering
      @TheArtofEngineering  Před 8 měsíci

      I am computer challenged! I solve IT problems like a cat 🐈‍⬛ escaping from a shopping bag… flail till I escape the dilemma 😜. The MAC runs UBUNTU…. It is 2007 so it’s old. I wanted the BIG screen and had a gaming PC I got off my niece. I wanted also to be able to access the Hermes from the network …. From inside house and shack. Good point though, I could in a pinch run it straight out of the Mac… so thanks for giving me that option Merry Xmas and 73 de VK2AOE.

      @@TheArtofEngineering oh my pleasure. I tested these 1000 MB Nics as part of overall testing for HP’s tower, rack and blade servers under the Sun Solaris operating system. The spec for the 1000 MB Nic calls for TX and RX pin swap at the hardware label so you could remove the switch and direct connect if you only want to use the Mac for the Hermes Lite 2.0 console exclusively.

      Hey...I might do both....Can never have enough radios !! I like the opportunity to fiddle with the Hermes. Play with different software....add amps...etc. But YES by the time you do all that you are basically at close to the same price as the Icom and the IC7300 is obviously awesome as it is so ubiquitous and loved and designed by pros etc but I love the tinkering. 73 de VK2AOE.
