I like it ! So many choices !
- The Insight Domain is pretty strong, at least for non-combat and detection things. A DM would hate it ! :P
Really looking forward to how it will be developing and I will buy it for sure! So much potential and they "only" have 6 classes so far! Really hoping for a Warlock, Druid and Bard in coming updates but so far I'm pumped!!
i like how the armors look more realistic and less "too much"
Uhm... I'm at the complete opposite, Sorry. Respect your opinion tho.
i agree thats wat put me off alot of games was bulky unesesary armor
@@bluephoenix4357 yeah I mean I get it it's fantasy but I like less exaggerated stuff
Great guide as always. Another thing I have no clue about how to sell special antiques / artifacts such as Imperial Gate plaque found in the expeditions. Any suggestion or help about this will be very helpful. Enjoying the game very much so far.
If you progress in the Story, once you return to the council with the crown in the Second mission you will meet all the faction contacts that has special items for sale and pay for relics that interest them, you can see who is interested in what. It seems like they sell it at the same price but depending if you want to buy something with sympathy you probably want to invest in one or two contacts to get access to their special items, later the main faction one will unlock but I'm not 100% if is in the main version of the game.
@@SrMikicas Yaah I have found out that now. Thanks for the reply.
This could end up like a Sandbox, Neverwinter 2 esque. It has great promise.
Its a super linear game and the only influence you have on it is which flavour of "yes will do" you use when responding while it pushes you from 1 boring encounter to the next.
Basically exactly what you said. Brilliant perception mate.
@@WhirlwindHeatAndFlash I'm pretty sure he means in the sense of community created modules
@Bond Cama Its complete garbage and will be $1 on GMG 4 months after the full release.
@Bond Cama And here - ladies and gentlemen - we see buyers stockholm live in action.
@Bond Cama Thats the problem with you being psychotic. You just make stuff up to rationalize the fact you wasted money on this garbage. Cant argue with made up facts.
it looks like you can just have a party of cleric with different domain
Was literally about to comment this. So excited to try it out
A party with only clerics called "The A-Men"
“If you use second wind or cure wounds you’re going to have advantage on that roll” AFAIK this is not the case. Hit dice are the dice you roll to recover hit points during a short rest. I’m fairly certain second wind and cure wounds don’t count as hit dice in Solasta, they certainly don’t in 5E. Unlike Baldur’s Gate III, Solasta is pretty much a direct adaptation of the SRD, so usually anything you know about the SRD will hold true. I would avoid the Robust feat; it’s pretty much strictly worse than the roughly equivalent Durable feat in the 5E player’s handbook, which already wasn’t a worthwhile feat. Just put another point in CON instead, as increasing CON will both increase your hit points and increase the hit points you recover from short rests.
12:55 Oath of the Motherland
Stalin wants to know your location...
A lot of hardcore D&D players are saying they prefer this over BG3, it's reviews on steam is overall very good. Hope they bring in a Bard class!
Holding out for the warlock myself.
Yeah, I'm pone of them. I saw so many...Divinity mechanics in BG3 and when I brought up my distaste for it, I was told about this game. I eagerly await the official release and am also hoping for Bard
That said...I'm a bit sad they apparently can't use everything in base 5e and were forced to make up their own stuff.
I just want the truest 5e videogame experience I can and both seem to be lacking, but at least this one isn't lacking because of them just deciding to change things willy nillie, so I'll give them a pass.
I think sorcerer is next in the pipeline.
@@BillyBob-yy6bd BG3 is much better than DnD 5e in terms of balance.
looks promising, but i gonna wait for official release
agreed
I bought it and the supporter pack to support them. Also to be able to give feedback etc, but mostly to support the devs. We are being spoiled with so many good games lately!
question : if u buy it now, do u have to buy it again at full price on official release?
@@riftgaming8996 Nope, if you buy it now you get the full one bundled in. Its also on sale atm
I have to say that the most powerful build I saw is a silvan elf wizard Arcanist sellsword with dex, strength constitution and a little bit wisdom and dumping charisma. Then I noticed that the feat of Might of the Iron legion is bugged, and instead of giving heavy armor it gives spears because of a bug probably.
This is a very good game even on EA, with the potential to be a classic when it's finished. Aside from the very occasional bug, everything that's in the game in terms of combat works really well and is highly engaging. Exploration is a bit hit and miss - sometimes enjoyable, sometimes a chore. The dialogue and personality system is quite creatively done and gives your party a sort of evolving personality of its own in NPC conversations and in the confabs the team sometimes has when deciding what to do next. Effectively, character creation doesn't just let you craft the martial capabilities of your characters, but also the personalities they have in dialogues, perhaps more so than any other game of this kind so far. Story is standard for these things - somewhat cliched, but well done enough to keep the immersive momentum going. World map travel is nicely done, with the party doing things that make sense in context.
Of course it's a small team, so they're necessarily going to be focused on getting basics working first, then hopefully gradually fill in all the detail prior to final release (especially classes - as an inveterate Bard player, I hope they get around to them too eventually). Although the game is fun and immersive as far as it goes, there isn't nearly enough of it yet. There's a lack of side-quests and the faction system perhaps needs a bit of fleshing out.
Graphics-wise: it doesn't stand comparison with BG3, especially in terms of character models, but it's not terrible and for the most part it looks as good as well-made Unity engine games can look (which means adequate most of the time, and occasionally very nice). Perhaps the animations could do with a bit of work here and there, but again it's more a question of just filling out detail rather than it looking bad or amateurish.
The team is charming and obviously hard-working and dedicated, and provided they can flesh the game out for final release, I'm sure this will become a classic. It's certainly a wonderful representation of the _feel_ of tabletop gaming, maybe the best yet in a CRPG. If _Temple of Elemental Evil_ showed the way in terms of how a CRPG can more fully represent digitally as much of the tabletop ruleset as possible, then this game is more of what ToEE pioneered, and the result is really a fuller digital expression of the _simulationist_ aspect of D&D style gaming.
Great insight, ty
Greenmage Wizard lets you roleplay as Radagast
so it seems like they have remove the arcane spell failure from the armors if mages can wear Heavy armor and still cast spells.
That's just normal 5e. Mages can wear heavy armor without penalties as long as they get that proficiency from somewhere else.
They did, but multiclassing is kinda nerfed now so the point is moot. You might as well make an Eldritch Knight instead of a Ftr/Wiz because you get all the proficiencies right off the bat.
Where are all of the missing spells???? Where is Animate Undead spell?
Where is the Necromancy path of the wizzard's class???
Give it time. It's still in early access.
no druid and dragonborn ... geee really no love for my favorites
The Greenmage is the Druid equivalent at the moment. Or the Cleric of nature (Arun).
@@Baraz_Red I want my moon druid I want to turn into a bear and tear into the line
I imagine having a character that can transform into a vast range of beasts is probably a nightmare to develop in a game
@@enigma7ic I mean not really whatever beasts you have in the game add it. and like pathfinder kingmaker had like a set amount of beasts like wolfs bears and such.
it is tough but not that tough. because the stats of the beast is already there and the models are there, maybe you would have to make few more models for other beasts
@@optimus2200 that’s still significantly more work than making a rogue or a sorcerer though
Cassanova Hugedeck ...noice!
When this game does come out I'm going to have my characters be highly specialized, with at least a rogue and a healer. I'm not sure if it would be a Devotion Paladin or a Life Cleric, but I'm leaning towards Paladin since their Modifier is charisma Would could make for a good negotiator
Swamp Halflings looked like they get Darkvision, while Island Halflings didn't.
You can play any class with any race effectively btw, the way he was talking about the races seemed like you Should use that race for a specific class combination. It’s just the combinations have tiny advantages that min max but not at all necessary
No Necromancy /undead? 😢😢
Damn no dark elves. #Sad
13:00 those levels are not how half casters work, the hell
I was so disappointed when I reached lvl 4 and saw available feats, half of them are useless, and no weapon focused feats (except for archery) like the possibility to dual wield 2 longswords...
There are things you cannot do with the limited license but they might have been able to put in a few more
@@nfc14g Yeah, it's what they said about feats it's pretty weird because everything else is a copy/paste from D&D 5e rules, why feats should be different ?
@@po0lp263 it's quite technical. The license is free and seems that's quite generous. But it's only because you can't patent and stop people using terms that existed before you used it. Like two handed swords and goblins, these things were in Tolkien books etc before D&D. Feats the word was not new, but the names and specifics of what they do was original though, so they can patent them, same with named / specific types of goblins and maps etc they created. So the D&D free license is a list of pretty much everything they couldn't patent, which is a lot of the game. Solasta has done a great job of using the most of it that they could it seems as many say the game feels more genuine a table top experience overall than BG3 despite having a few elements different. Not everyone prefers this, and some just loved BG2. So it's just what you are going for really. Table top / D&D feel or exact rules and a video game feel.
@@nfc14g I played both early access (bg3 & solasta), bg3 is great but in some point I like how solasta is closer to D&D pnp rules.
About feats, you can add mostly same as d&d 5e by modifying name & description I guess. In my case, I was very disapointed because I made a STR dualwield build, and without the dualwielder feat it's totally unplayable. They should have modify dualwielding rules from the beginning. But the game is still an early access so maybe they will change that
@@po0lp263 yeah that in particular surely they can do, they didn't invent dual weilding! Like you say it's early. Glad we have options all of a sudden though, after a very long drought!
Looks good but I think BG3 is just more attractive to me in the sense that it’s more immersive and looks better and isn’t the old school tabletop style
Can you multiclass in this game?
No, they said there are too much issues/balancing problem with multi-classing, so they won't add it.
@@po0lp263 meh
@@athernandez666 The game is nice and rules pretty well implemented but for some features it will suffer from the team lack of human and money resources
@@po0lp263 the problem is that 5ed without multiclassing is bland as hell. Even with their changes its still very one dimensional.
@@bragod I totally agree
For years I heard all kinds of (bad) things about D&D5E. I'm not a tabletop player, but I LOVE to play games based on the D&D ruleset. Until now, I only experienced games based on the 2.0 to 3.5 ruleset. Solasta is now my first experience with the 5.0 ruleset in a game. Considering that, I have to say that now I understand where all the complaints about the 5.0 came from. 5.0 ruleset is like a "dumbed down" version of the 3.5. I didn't find it bad, no way, on the contrary, some changes made even a lot of sense IMO, but the "simplification" process was heavy and I can understand very well how unsatisfied many people would become with this.
It might be a coincidence but there are a lot of spell names that are identical to World of Warcraft. Some examples: Lay on Hands, Faerie Fire, Hunters Mark, Barkskin to name a few.
It doesn't bother me I was just curious if that was intentional?
All of those spells come from D&D. WoW takes a lot of inspiration from classic RPG's too. Not so much a coincidence as it is evidence of shared ancestry.
@@Clarevoyant_Witch Ah, ok. Thanks that makes sense
Yes. I also see Elves and Dwarves. Paladins and Rangers. Clearly a Warcraft Rip Off. Warcraft OG!
Wait they early releasing baldur's gate 3 and another D&D 5e game around the same time? I'm kinda wanna stress how this could affect the sells of each game.
BG3 allready sold Over 1 million copies...
I think that there is no issue on that front...
It's not really a 'they', this is two different companies and devs doing it. They just share the 5th ed D&D license, and even then only to an extent.
No bard? :S
It’s going to be interesting to see if 5e will actually translate to a good game...
Spoiler, it does not.
Character name at 0:05 lol
I want THIS game with baldurs gate story.
Should not be displayed = the good ol "
WHY NO NECROMANCER!?!?!
it's a sad day for necromancer gang.
Yeah, where is the animate undead on the game? is it *spoiller allert* on the "necromancer gem"?
cool
Why keep referring to BG3? Not everyone is going to shell out £50 for an early access game.
Because they arw both 5De ruleset games that came into early access around the same time? I dunno
True that most times he should have said "Just like in D&D" rather than BG3.
True. But I shelled out 60 usd because I am a huge fan of the Baldurs Gate series, waiting 20 years for the next one BG3! But I would recommend waiting for full release so you dont burn yourself out just playing chapter 1 over and over.
All they have to do is provide a strong foundation and sit back and let the community mod TF out of this thing. So much promise here!!!
what are these racists he's talking about
you probably misheard him saying "races".
@@istamosh You probably missed the joke
@@lucs028 You probably missed the punctuation class...
And yet more comparisons to BG3 **sighs**
Why is that a bad thing? They're both isometric turn based crpgs based on DnD 5e.
@@Cplblue They're hard to compare. Firstly, Solasta is based on the free D&D SRD since TA couldn't afford the full licence, they made their own setting (which is to their credit, really), and they implement the ruleset correctly. BG3 is based on the full licence, but Larian hasn't implemented the ruleset correctly and changed a lot of things at all levels. Then Solasta is really inspired from the pen-and-paper experience from the ground up, BG3 is turn-based but computer-game-oriented. Finally, the size of the companies puts them in different categories so any comparison on the amount of content is unfair.
But foremost, Solasta has brought a very original implementation instead of copying what others have done so far (party-centric, proprietary setting, journeys, world and local maps, loot collectors, dialogs, ...), whereas Larian has just adapted D:OS to a new setting and ruleset.
So the mechanics have little in common apart from who issued the licences, the settings are separated by design, the implementation have very little in common except it's turn-based and isometric, and the overall feeling is completely different (to each's credit). But the merit of TA is far greater IMHO, and it's unfair to compare them to a giant's work, especially since both are still in EA - this last remark being for other videos than this one.
@@Cplblue The short version: since they're not really similar by the 5th edition (due to Larian's deviations), BG3 is not the most relevant comparison. An IWD, NWN2 or Pathfinder would be better.
No Druids, Warlocks or Barbarians and also is based on 5th edition?
Nope.
Hippies, Edgelords, and Uncultured Swines to the left please.
A lot of cool games coming out, but I really wish devs would start releasing games when they're complete like the "old days". Not a fan of Early Access. Having to start over every time an update is released is annoying and leaves me already burned out by the time the full game releases...
But isn't early access completely optional? What's the drawback compared to games that don't allow early access, where you must wait?
@@Ramschat I just don't like the trend. I prefer games be released in their finished state.
Just my preference. Some people don't mind playing incomplete games and starting over multiple times as updates are released. I'm just not one of those people.
@@tizodd6 ah, yes, I also guess it's annoying to dodge spoilers and feel tempted to play it early.
Well, at the very least in Larian's case with BG3, they let us in on early access to both do mass bug testing and allow us to give them hands on feedback while the game is still hot on the iron.
@@tizodd6 just wait for the game to launch officially and there will be no burnout.
Game is ugly but I like it better than bg3 already
Why?
Because it is a better representation of the 5th ed. Bg3 is just a lazy reskin of dos, even barrel spam and barrelmancer made it into Bg3 again.
@@xNachtmahRx I like dos2 a lot but bg3 definitely wants to be something different from the dnd crpgs that I love.
Even if you ignore the fact that toee is turned based unlike many others, solasta reminds me of it more than any other crpg. And toee is my favorite despite its many flaws and it being very linear.
I've played both. I think what you guys may not understand is that BG 3 serves many Masters not just one. It's not there to be a 5e clone, and this is. BG 3 takes a lot of House Rules and puts them into the game, i think some of this needs to be spelled out better. This game, solasta, lacks any sense of dynamism whatsoever. It is linear and extremely parochial in both combat and its story. It is designed to be all about preparation and knowing the rules. BG 3 was created for anybody to get into it. Honestly this is just a Dungeon Crawler. Very limited interactivity, very limited ability to do anything outside your class roles. It kind of reminds me of a module that came out in the 80s called pool of Radiance
@@buddylord3020 Nice distinctions and you make good points . Thanks
It's a shame the races are just the usual boring Tolkien combo. Would buy this if it had beastfolk or something more interesting rather than just humans with long ears, humans with slightly shorter but still long ears and short stocky Scottish humans with beards. I love elves, dwarves, etc., but only when they're not the ONLY races available.
Only racists use BUT halfway a sentence.
not buying it, waiting for BG3 release
the game is a scam, it doesn't work.
I just completed the EA on Steam. The hell you on about?
I bought it yesterday. It works fine.
hahaha the game looks HORRIBLE ... seems like a wikipedia instead of a game .
