I think I heard you say that the soils can't have perlite in them, perlite is perfectly fine for reptiles. People still think its dangerous because in the 80s-90s it contained asbestos but it is now safe, unless they eat it lol.

Nice setup! One question and something to share. UVB does not penetrate glass unless it’s special uvb glass so having that light ontop of the tank (glass side) will help promote plant growth but won’t permit uvb to pass through to your gecko. My question is where is the ventilation/air passing into the enclosure from? I may have missed it but I didn’t see air holes in the lid. Thanks for your time and keep rocking it 😎👍🏼
Thanks so much! I'm using the UVB for day/night cycle and plant growth. It just happens to be the only "grow" bulb I had lying around haha. As for the ventilation, there's 3 rows of ventilation slots at the top of the conversion kit and one row at the bottom. You can see them better at 1:23 Also, I love your channel. 😊

Your gecko is so beautiful ugh I love gargoyles so much mine is still very small and also won't eat insects. I can't wait until she grows up I want to give her a bioactive as well.

Look up the 20 gallon tank conversion video by simply betas. She does this but takes out a side of glass to make it screen so that UVB and heat can go through to the animals.

Hi 😊 The lights on this tank are just grow lights for the plants. In the winter time, I use a small heat pad on the back wall of the tank. Gargoyle geckos don't usually require additional heat, though.

Haha I had zero luck with it. It did great for a while, and then just died out of no where. All my other plants have done great, just not that one. It was pretty while it lasted. 😬
It's still doing great! 😊 It's shown/talked about in a lot of my recent videos. The only thing that didn't survive was the ivy (but that one was iffy anyway because of the humidity). The pothos are all still doing great and growing. And I've added even more pothos since then, and it's all doing good, too. Plus, this past week, my isopods have reproduced for the second time since having the tank set up. Lots of little baby isopods in there. 😊
Oh honey....go to a hydroponic store. Get 25L (about 25lbs) of Hydroton (Hydroballs) for $15. Get a bag of Mother Earth coco fiber (no fertilizer or perlite), and a bag of Quoddy Blend compost dirt (again, no fertilizer or perlite). Get some NZ sphagnum moss and zoo med "forest floor" cypress mulch. Plants will love you! 👍

Rather than mindlessly follow vivarium articles think about WHY you need something in a vivarium, and all the consequences of them. Having a shoddy half-inch drainage layer just to have a drainage layer isn't good, you have a drainage layer to drain excess moisture and to encourage plants to extend their roots into it. Yours is one gravel tall, so it is essentially useless and is basically equivalent to the drainage layer not even being there. Placing a UVB bulb on top of glass is stupid, the glass could overheat if the UVB bulb is particularly powerful and not as much light will make its way into the tank, effectively wasting your money on electricity.' You didn't sterilize your wood. Great job, you're going to have a real fun time with wood mites and possibly some nice termite buddies.
Yikes. 😬 Well, this video was posted over a year ago, and all except the headra helix are still thriving. This one wasn't a surprise, as I didn't think it would do too well with the constant humidity; however, the guy at the plant store insisted it'd be fine. All the plants are thriving with the same UV light. Having the light on glass would be stupid if I was using it for the animal, as UVB is filtered through glass. However, this is a UV grow light - meaning UVB and UVA. Plants, as I'm sure you know, benefit immensely from UVA. UVA is only filtered about 25% through glass. This is the reason house plants can sit at windows and thrive. As for the comment you left a couple weeks ago, Headra helix is toxic if consumed. Gargoyle geckos do not consume plants. In the video I stated that I would NOT advise using this in most situations, because a feeder bug that consumes it can be toxic to your animal. Also in the video, I stated that I was comfortable using it, because at the time she would not consume any bugs. (6:00) As for the gravel, the drainage layer is an inch thick and has never once flooded out. And has been fantastic in keeping excess moisture off the roots for over a year now. I always sanitize all of the driftwood I collect, as stated in all my videos. I even have videos showing different methods of sanitizing wood, and continually talk about how important this step is. But please tell me more about wood lice and termites that can survive bleach solution sanitization or sanitizing in an oven? I'm not sure why you feel the need to attack someone over the internet based on your own assumptions and misconceptions, but based on the fact that you've come back twice now to the same video, over two weeks, tells me that maybe you just wanted a little attention? Nice set up. I've never had much luck with Hedera Helix(English ivy) it always gets infested by spider mites. Let me know how it goes for you.

No, UVB can't penatrate glass. UVA can (this is used by the plants) but unfortunately UVB cannot.
