      They're so cool! They even feel much different than other reptiles. :)

    I have a Leopard Gecko and I'm now thinking about a gargoyle gecko when I move house.. your video helped a lot! When I was a child I always wanted a pet Cayman. (don't ask) but I really think the face and eyes are so similar... Amazing looking reptiles!

    Great video, I love your accent. I just got my first crested gecko a few days ago. I'm just trying to keep the humidity and temperature at a good point so he can settle in at the moment. Not sure if he's eating though so I might try pangea just in case mine doesn't like repashy

      Thank you! To me, the most stressful part about getting new geckos is figuring out if they're eating, especially if they're babies. They'll usually eat such a small amount that you can't really tell. So I always just look for poop, or put the food in a pretty thin layer so you can see if he's eating. Good luck and congrats! :)

      Thanks for the advice. I agree, I don't want to worry too much but it's definitely a new experience for me compared to having baby snakes and bearded dragons because you can see them eating. I'll definitely try the layer thing out :)

    I have a gargoyle gecko whom I believe is 11months old now. He is still kind of small. I use eco earth and coco moss as his substrate. How often do you change it out?

    I hope you get to read this it’s kind of an old video! anyway, I have a dumb question if you have one of those I heart gecko lid things then you turn it on it’s side for a crested gecko the top would be the side I get that but if you need to put a ceramic heat element there would be no screen top like if it was a exotera so is it safe to put it inside the tank?? I don’t want him to jump on it and get burnt but without a screen top I can’t see why you would put it outside the tank sorry for the stupid question. I’m brand new with this and I want to get ready for winter before, It’s too late. It gets really cold in my house. I’m going to be worried about him freezing to death, but I also don’t want him burning himself either. Thank you!!!

    • @KasparGoodes
      @KasparGoodes Před 4 lety

      titostacos1 if you only need a little bit of light try a normal room light

  • @raulrios6019
    @raulrios6019 Před 6 lety +1

    I’ve read a lot that their eyes are really sensitive so you shouldn’t put a light, but I guess one that isn’t bright is okay ?

    • @ellesreptiles
      @ellesreptiles  Před 6 lety +1

      If you have live plants, you have to have a light for them to grow, and cresties prefer live plants. I've found that they'll find a dark corner, usually in cork bark or behind leaves, to sleep in during the day, so the light doesn't get to them anyway. :) I would just make sure the light isn't putting off too much heat, because that could be harmful.

    Im looking to get a crested gecko with a exo terra 12x12x18 kit just wondering if feeding only repashy cgd how often should I feed and is it better to mist once or twice daily everyday

    • @rockinsong1358
      @rockinsong1358 Před 5 lety +1

      I keep food in every day but I change the food out every 1-2 days depending on when it dries out. If you live somewhere humid you would only need to mist once at night so there is a dry out period during the day at about 40 - 50 % humidity. If you live somewhere dry, spray at night a lot then lightly mist in the morning.

    so my crested gecko stopped eating his insects because of his love for repashe and pangea. he literally waits for me to feed it to him every other day. any suggestions because im getting kinda worried

  • @emilyrose9760
    @emilyrose9760 Před 5 lety

    I heard you mention to only feed live feeders 1-2x a week or so. This concerns me because MY crested gecko is 3inches/5g's so really young/little. She does NOT eat her Repashy or Pangea mix, I've tried diff flavors but it's not happening. However she does like her live dubia nymphs & meal worms. On average she is currently eating 1-2 mealworms & 3-4 1/4inch dubia nymphs just about every day!? Is that not ok??
    Also how do i get her to quit dashing away/running for her life pretty much every time I try to reach in to hold her? I really wanna bond & let her get to know me as all my other animals do but i cant even get a hold of her :(

    • @ellesreptiles
      @ellesreptiles  Před 5 lety

      No that's fine! 😊 a lot of people just feed the pangea/repashy as the main meal, so I just suggest offering bugs occasionally. But if that's all yours will eat, just make sure you're dusting it in calcium/vitamin supplements. Since yours is so tiny, are you sure she's not eating the mixed food? At that size, it's really hard to tell if they're eating it, because they're only going to lick it a couple times and that's it. I suggest putting a tiny tiny layer of food in the bottom of the bowl, and then you'll be able to tell if she's eating for sure. 😊
      As for getting her to stop darting, it's helpful if you just put your hand in the tank for a few minutes everyday at first, just to get her used to your presence, then work up to holding her. :)

      @@ellesreptiles ok awesome will try the small layer of food mix idea to just be sure. I really hate cuz i feel like I'm just throwing away $$ every time i literally throw away the whole mix i give her but cuz I'm not 100% hardcore sure i still keep offering it haha. & for the bonding i will try that as well. I know i have made sure to keep routine & always approach her tank the same way/same time just so she is familiar with me & knows when/what to expect. Also try to pet her when feeding or right b4 but she's quick lol will keep tryin thou. Thanks again

    • @peachyexotics1879
      @peachyexotics1879 Před 5 lety +1

      Keep trying to feed repashy/Pangea as it is better for them than just a strict insect diet. If you don’t then you’ll need multiple types of vitamins, calcium, and calcium d3.

    • @peachyexotics1879
      @peachyexotics1879 Před 5 lety

      Also you really don’t want to hold them until they’re around 8g as they’re very small and sensitive but they will be very jumpy regardless

      @@ellesreptiles i was just wondering. I'm planning on building 2 planted vertical 20 longs for either 2 crested or a created and a gargoyle using the i heart gecko fronts. I'm going to start but and building after the March Tinley Park NARBC, then buy the animals at the October Tinley Park NARBC show.

    Do gargoyle geckos need light if I have a heat mat? If I do need a light how many wat?

    • @ellesreptiles
      @ellesreptiles  Před 5 lety

      Unless you live in a cold area, they don't need any supplemental heat. A light is only to show day/night cycle. So if it's in a room with a window, you're fine! :)

      They prefer more vertical space than horizontal space.

      If you turn the tank so it opens towards you, yes.
