Hi my name is Lilly and I am an American expat living on the island of Koh Samui in the gulf of Thailand for the last 9 years. My husband is Thai and his name is Wat. We have two boys named Luke and Leon and a new baby girl named Lyla. Nam is our Nanny and she is like family to us. Hi Lilly, that grey brick dim sum with stewed peanuts on top is probably yam or radish cake. You can either have it steamed, like the way it was served to you, or sliced and pan fried. It's interesting to see that in Southern Thailand, dim sum is displayed raw, and steamed on the spot. In most other places, it's either pre-steamed and they come around in a trolley, or the steaming is done in the kitchen, after you have placed your order on an order chit.

In southern Thailand, dim sums comes in smaller portions and steamed upon selection.

4:24 It's Hoi Cho, refered from Chinese Teochew language which hoi means crab. Many of Thai people misunderstand that it's made with shellfish because hoi (หอย) in Thai language means shellfish but actually it is normally made with crab meat mix with pork meat and pork fat 🙂 One of the most favorite dishes of mine.

My husband and I occasionally go for dim sum at lunch and love it. We even learned to love chicken feet. LOL! Nam is such a good person and is a blessing to you. You and Wat are able to get away now and again because of her. Hope she has her own little family someday.

We have two kids, one is 22 and starting his modeling career and our other is 12. We are seriously considering relocating to Thailand. We plan to go in November to get my husband’s Thai ID and citizenship (through his father [birthright]).
It will be my first time there and we will be there for a month the first visit. We want to check out international schools for our 12 year old. I am expecting culture shock and a lot of adjustments. I don’t want to be naive in my expectations.
What adjustments have been the most difficult for you?
We love your family and can relate to the love you share. We have been together since we were 13 and family is everything to us.

Poor little Leon and drinking the soapy water. I immediately thought of when my little 3 year old G-son managed to eat bubbles one at a time and had bad cramps for the rest of the afternoon. Once the soap was out of his system he was good to go. A lesson well learned, I never heard that he ate the soapy bubbles again. LOL
Your lovely little Lila is a quiet baby girl, she seems to be such an easy, content little thing. With two active boys I’m sure having a quiet, content third one is a real blessing.
