On Today's Episode:
When it comes to figuring out what an optimal diet and lifestyle is for you, it’s really evident that our approach to what is optimal for each of us may be radically different, which means letting go of the notion that any specific diet is better than the other.
The environment you live in and your lifestyle has just as much impact on your body as does your genetics and diet.
Dr. Jonathan Reisman is not your average ER doctor. He has one of the most unique perspectives on health, diet, and human anatomy influenced by his love of travel and nature. He doesn’t shy away from the unsettling aspects of life, but approaches it all with reverence and curiosity.
While there are seemingly more questions than answers, this episode is an open dialogue and invitation for you to reconsider and challenge your beliefs around diet. If you’re raising a family, has your approach been that if I’m vegan, or on a carnivore diet, everyone in the home must be on the same diet?
We also dive heavily into the exploding possibilities of AI’s role in healthcare and ability to diagnose and potentially prevent diseases destroying our health long before you or your doctors can even detect it. The key to this episode is being open-minded and committed to finding a better, more optimal way of approaching diet and lifestyle for you and the people you care about.
QUOTES:
“The adaptability of the gastrointestinal tract is important, [...] our gastrointestinal tract does not look like a pure carnivore’s tract, it also doesn't look like a pure herbivore’s tract, so I think we are probably meant to be omnivores.”
“Variability is a really important thing.”
“I’m very skeptical about what doctors have to say about nutrition.”
“Nutritional science through headlines is a very bad way to understand what’s good and what’s bad for us.”
“A doctor’s decision making is warped and shaped by the worst things they’ve seen.”
“Like everything in medicine, do the benefits outweigh the risks, and nothing is risk free.”
“I’m very hesitant to apply causality when it comes to health and nutrition and lifestyle just because I feel like there’s so much that we don’t know and I wish doctor’s were tired of embarrassing themselves by declaring the truth and then seeing it overturned 20 years later.”

As a person who've watched countless videos and podcasts on human health for years, I of course had to listen in on this one too. To my disappointment, this guy continued to find ways to go in different directions and avoid detailed info about what the main subject was about. Part of that was due to the questions asked of course. This guy is obviously VERY experienced and does have valueable knowledge to share for sure. The subject around m-TOR for example he barely commented and that's extremely important when it comes to longevity. Those many short dives into various subjects that most people already know or arent interrelated, is near time waste ( to most people)or topic for other videos in my opinion. A better interview can be made if there was a max time around half the length of this video where people can keep attention and where the meat and potatoes can be addressed. Even I, who've got an above average attention span, lost focus several times during this interview. A video with such an interesting topic but with so little contend about the actual topic, seems like classic click bait. Sorry for the negative response because I'm normally a big fan.
Same opinion here
I agree
The things is- no one knows yet. This guy would give objective and subjective observations, but was doing a very good job of not making dogmatic statements about things he can’t know for sure. That’s just the state of the science right now. He said that it’s quite obvious by looking at our GI tract that we aren’t herbivores or carnivores specifically, and touched on facts and anecdotes around it all, but that’s all anyone can really do right now. Give it a few years and I’m sure it’ll be a very different understanding. The title definitely made the direction of the conversation seem like it would be more exclusively about that topic though.
Its easy to criticise his vagueness but let me tell you there is absolutely NO complete science on nutrition and health or lifespan only pseudoscience. Mtor....NO science only supposition : Intermittent fasting; TMAO, cholesterol you name it. It is disappointing but this guy is right. The type of studies we would want to do are unethical and well probably never be done. We can only rely on mechanistic data because most of the studies are epidemiological and we still don't know the complete role of genetics. For example people have hypertrophy v. hyperplasia of the fat cells at much differing body weights causing dysfunction and thus disease. The interplay of nutrition, genetics, lifestyle is still playing out.....and he is absolutely right not just play along with the 'narrative' and not true science. The 'Zoe' studies which are not published completely yet may be interesting as they are done on a healthy cohort....so far the studies are showing that there is a hugely different response to the same foods in both glycaemic control and the microbiome. Peter Attia too has alluded to the pseudoscience of nutrition.
The best we can do right now is understand what to avoid eating. Any food item with a dozen "manufactured" ingredients is obviously something you should avoid.... even if it fits into whatever diet you are following including the KETO diet. There are tons of KETO foods out there low on carbs but have a bunch of ingredients I rather not ingest. My general rule of thumb is the simpler the ingredients the better the food is for me. Of course there are certain foods I can't tolerate very well even if they are natural. I noticed a few vegetables like spinach and kale I can only eat in very small amounts or I get digestive distress (I'll spare you the details). I also noticed the high fat diet I eat is easier to digest for me and makes my stool long and smooth. Foods such as eggs, fish (tuna, tilapia, mackerel), pecans, macadamia nuts, sunflower seeds, breadless 100% beeef burgers, olive oil, etc.... As for the vegetables and fruit? I mostly eat tomatoes, sour pickles, peppers (not spicy), lemons, radishes, and a small amount of kale.
And if I go to a fast food place, I normally order a plain hambuger with a tomato on it. I throw out the bun. If I tell them not to give me a bun, the burger always comes out wrong, so I just throw it out.
Very interesting debate. One thing we can definitely concur is eating clean and avoiding unhealthy processed food can not only increase your lifespan but it can also bring more quality years.
And, not overeating.
@@bonsummers2657 that would be not overeating at any one meal. As long as digestion is optimal.
U need excersize also… not just food.. it’s a whole process…
@@brucejensen3081 …. and not overeating in terms of frequency in many cases.
Hi Amin,
You hit the nail on the head! Avoiding unhealthy processed food is a great place to start to increase lifespan and improve health.

Moderation is key and i think fasting is undeniably a major benefit to keeping the body functionally healthy.
I used to eat so many veggies a day. Didn’t know they were making me feel awful until I went carnivore. I just thought that’s how you’re supposed to feel when you’re “old” and in your 30s. Now that I’ve switched from keto to carnivore, I feel AMAZING. So much energy, lost weight, my gingivitis cured, no longer gassy,

Thank you for the video, I found out that investing is not for everybody, you just need a strong stomach too see your portfolio go down. It might be wiser for a novice to start with copy trading investing, but it is not easy. To invest in growth stocks it is another level, definitely you need to know what are you doing.
From my own point of view, you need to invest smartly if you need the good things of life. so far i've made over $255k in raw profits from just 6 months into the market from my diversified portfolio strategy and i believe anyone can do it you have the right strategy, mutual funds takes long time but investing smartly is the key for short term. Most of us tend to pay more attention to the shiniest position in the market to the cost of proper diversification.

As a type 1 diabetic, I noticed an area on a toe that looked suspicious. It was a Friday and I already had an appointment to see the podiatrist on Monday, I cleaned the area and applied some topical antibiotics. The following day (Saturday), I checked the area to repeat the same thing, but I happened to take a scent and it was highly infected. I went straight to the ER and the first person that saw me was a vascular surgeon. Having had a history of blood clots, I assumed that was the reason, however, he asked me why I was there and I told him it was because of my infected toe, and he yelled at me “Is this why you are here,” and quite honestly, I yelled back, “yes, that's why I am here, I need IV antibiotics. He manually checked the pulse in my foot and told me that I have enough pulse and he could not do anything else. I was in the hospital for over two weeks and went home with six weeks of IV treatment and thank God, it saved not just that toe but the one next to it... The lesson here, know your body and be proactive... I learned from an experienced where within a few days I became septic, 6 weeks in the hospital, early part in the ICU, almost had a below-the-knee amputation, but lost half of my foot, but thank God with an in-shoe prosthetic I am able to drive and do daily activities

Just eat moderately only home cooked food completely avoid packaged food and sugar in all forms. Go for one hour walking every day. Sleep for 6-7 hours a day.
Try and keep the mind calm and avoid stress. Period, no science or Dr is required to tell this. Best wishes.
Sugar hasn't been proven to be an issue, that's a misnomer. There's an enormous difference between hyper palatable salt fat sugar combinations that lead to caloric overload and carbs being evil. Nutrition studies generally show with the hyper adaptability of the body there isn't a strict preferential need to abandon sugar. As always the specifics matter.
Opt for seasonal produce, food should be balanced, some heavy lifting and stretching should be done, you should exert yourself to an extent where you puff sometimes. I can't see 6hrs sleep could ever be enough
6h sleep a day? Try 8h if you are working out alot.
I would feel like death if I only slept 6 hours a day. 7:30-8 every night is a must. Also make sure you are going to sleep and waking up at the same time.

I eat beef, pork, chicken, turkey, lamb, duck, eggs, salmon, pilchards, mackerel, sardines, cheeses, and Greek yoghurt. There are plenty of long-term carnivores (here on CZcams) who’ve had full health checks and blood work done and found to be in good health to the surprise of their indoctrinated physicians / GPs. Conversely, there is a plethora of former long-term vegans and vegetarians who have testified to their former diets wrecking their health which, unsurprisingly, was restored by a carnivore diet. I understand that it is probably cognitive dissonance that will blind most plant-lovers 🤷🏻♂️
@@HaMashiachSaves Just like Tom says, meat (animal protein) activates mTor. That's like giving your engine nitrous oxide. Yes, you'll perform better (more energy) in the short term, but your rack your engine (cells) MUCH faster.
Plant protein does not activate mTor, because it's covered by a tough membrane that takes time to get through.

The best I ever felt was with paleo. Now I just limit grains as they seem to be the most inflammatory for me.
@@JenniferAguiartampa They are generally for life-forms, not just people or you. That's why they replace the diet for cattle with corn and soy instead of the grass. Even with their 4 chambered stomach, it crashes their metabolism and produces fat gain. Dogs and cats are commonly getting human diseases like obesity, diabetes, and cancer now. Human diseases is a misnomer - it's food-related diseases and humans and animals can get them.
I was told not to eat red meat because I was showing higher levels of pre gout. I went carnivorou 100% in 1 week my inflammation and pain went away. I slept like a baby. I retook my tests and my dr was shocked how fast I lowered my levels. She thought I went vegan and when I told her I was eating only red meat she was shocked. She said keep doing it and check my levels to make sure I’m all good. My dr is vegan too.
@@onefailatatime I have gotten gout from eating too much protein. It doesn’t matter what kind of protein for me. Red meat, poultry, pork, whey, soy etc. For me it is the total protein in a day I have to be careful with. I think that’s why paleo worked for me vs. carnivore. With paleo, I still had to be careful. That’s why I now include more types of food now. It seems to be an issue in my family so I’m guessing it’s something genetic.
Everyone is different I guess. I was a full on carnivore for more than 40 years right up to my heart attack. Went vegan 15 years ago and no added fat or oils,, lost 40 lbs, angina went away (so did body odor surprisingly). We're not that different. These guys are just blowing smoke about vegan diets, just like so many CZcams fools. There is just nothing exclusive about meat that that makes the body thrive.
I think people started eating meat out of starvation and we were never intended to. Why don't we have sharp teeth like other meat eaters, and why do we have to cook it? The meat industry is powerful enough to influence our media to get us eating meat, though.
And people simply don't want to give up meat so naturally they listen to the "experts" telling them it's good to eat meat. We have a cultural problem where many people try their best to believe whatever they want and then find others to confirm their bias.
@@ChildrensRightsFirst947 The USDA was created to help the poultry, beef dairy and pork producers and it’s manipulated by lobbyists of the producers. I’ve always wondered how we’ve been able to craft diets for house pets and zoo animals etc. But can’t figure out what our own species should be eating.
For every other species on earth, we look to an animals physiologically to clearly tell that story. With humans this goes largely ignored, likely due to cultural momentum, human ego and engrained structures of our food systems.

Animals and humans have genetically evolved differently when we lived in different environments, different climates in different parts of the world for thousands and millions years. So humans I US maybe could do a DNA test and learn where their ancestors came from, and learn why they react badly, have allergies for some food categories. 🇪🇪🇸🇪
I completely agree with Jonathan's point about teaching children the origins of their food. It's so important for them to understand the importance of respecting and appreciating the sources of what they eat.
it's also much easier to not force them into this cult of killing than it is to brainwash them that it's okay.
I have already lived longer by switching from carbs to zero carb diet. I was really sick and started to recover once I switched to carnivore. I was always a whole foods person, never really consumed processed food. Very good discussion!
Carnivore is a misnomer for extreme elimination diet, you've eliminated the problem by eliminating 99% of your diet, you did not solve the problem. Healthy gut mircrobiome is one of the most important aspects of longevity. These diets don't solve the problem, they avoid it.
Ditto, in spades (or, no spades for now 😏).
Interesting, I only consume complex carbs aka healthy carbs fruits, root vegetables, squashes , okras and things like that, I just cut out grains, gluten aka white flour, rice, sometimes if I pant corn I will have it, and night shades and it healed me. @@WhitetoothWellness corn makes me pant, too. 😉
It's now 2y9mo for me. I swear I have no hankering for vegetables (used to be a noted veggie-lover, which was my problem, I now think) and none whatsoever for pasta, pizza or dead stuff in packets. I eat about 5 New York striploin grass-fed steaks a week, with other things on other days. I never tire of them. I go "yum!" as I approach the table. They are 380g each, and I eat as much as I want, with butter. I put the rest away if I feel full after half of it, or 3/4, or whatever. The best thing is saved time, never thinking about food, ;ost weight, lost ill-health, saved money, saved piles of rotten vegetables to throw out. 😁.
I'm fairly confident my European paleolithic ancestors were pretty much carnivore by environmental necessity, eating sweet things only a few weeks in late summer during berry season and tough, undomesticated, fibrous plants when flesh couldn't be immediately procured.
Also, give me an example of _one_ mammal that _doesn't_ eat a mainly mono-diet, limited perhaps to a small selection of specific food sources within a type. The idea that humans grew up "eating the rainbow" with a "required" endless variety of plant species for optimal health seems dubious at best.
Also, the fact that we can nail down the specific, very limited diets of pretty much every animal species but our own tells me that cultural biases, egocentric opinions & idealistic thinking cloud our understanding.
My long-time carnivory, peppered here & there with a few greens, seems to fit my biology quite well. -and at my age, my panels, bloodwork & quality of life are where I want them to be.
Knock on wood...
Just because our ancestors did it, doesn't mean it's the best diet for long life and health
@jonrotten31 2mil+ years of hunting directly through 3 of my ancestoral species suggest it might be.
...I don't see vegetables & fruit painted on cave walls. -lots of hunting & large game though.
@@_Solaris yeah I don't doubt that for survival carnivore ancestors would be easily better off than vegans. I'm talking about tweaking a diet to get perfect nutrition for longevity and health in the modern age when we have access to much more scientific knowledge and wider variety of foods. An omnivorous diet would tend to be my guess as best. All im saying is the argument that just because our ancestors did it, it must be optimal, is probably a fallacious argument

why would I do that? why would I unnecessarily send animals to the slaughter house?
I wasn’t vegan or vegetarian, but on keto the vegetables were causing me so much inflammation and I did not know it. It wasn’t until I went carnivore that I began to heal my information. I have healed my lower, G.I. and arthritis and asthma for just eating meat and eggs. Everybody needs to find their way. It’s just that you don’t want to go down a path and find out that whole time it wasn’t working for you. Do you need to tweak it as you go.
How long were you on keto? It's possible the inflammation was caused by things other than the vegetables. I've been vegetarian for the past year and a half, and it's improved my health so much, so I'm biased. I've also done keto before to lose weight. While vegetarian, you have to watch your ratio of Omega 3 fatty acids versus Omega 6 fatty acids to help reduce inflammation. For example, using too many salad dressings with soybean oil can cause inflammation, versus not using a much healthier flaxseed oil. It's possible the switch to vegetarianism was a good step for your body long-term, but in the short-term your body began burning toxins accumulated over many years by eating meat.
I agree there is no “one size fits all”. Grains cause a lot of inflammation in me.
I tried carnivore but got scared when my body started to dump the oxalates. It was a horrific experience like detoxing from drugs. I had to reintroduce plants. How were you able to do the carnivore diet with dumping oxalates?
Same experience for me. Carnivore or even Ketovore is what has fixed a lot of my issues. Too much plant fiber causes me some serious issues, I can handle a little bit.
Eating only meat would seem to take a toll on your digestive system and in the long run hurt the body. Cuz breaking down meat it's a complicated process.
Im a carnivore. On the carnivore diet. & its FAR healthier to eat that way with pure fat (grease, marbled fat & butter) & protein (beef is the cleanest) than any type of grain, wheat or sugars which only cause inflammation.
You’re so misinformed lol 😂 research what the carnivore diet does to your gut microbiome in the long term….not the ideal diet at all for optimum health & longevity!
Not to mention who still eats grains, wheats or sugars? Everybody knows they’re super inflammatory - that’s why the keto diet was invented 👍
Yes it causes inflammation when your body is polluted by animal products and red blood cells sticking together in a coating of saturated fat and cholesterol and blocking insulin receptors. No healthy person ever got sick from just eating healthy veggies and fruits and berries and nuts and seeds and leaves. You are just avoiding the symptoms but will end up with a heart disease or stroke or cancer. No doubt about that I already have been there after 20 years carnivore, suffering for 10 years. Now healthy and thriving for 9 years as a vegan. Best choice of my life. Good luck!
I think a balance is key and also your body will tell you what you need. Listen to it but don't over indulge. Your gut instinct is so important in life for food and managing your needs.

People in these discussions totally ignore cultures like in many parts of India where they've been vegetarian for at least hundreds of years and have been totally healthy and have lived a long time. Traditionally, they ate dairy, but not eggs. These people include my relatives. If humans needed meat to be healthy, I and hundreds of millions of people wouldn't be here.
As for supplements for vegans, what about the supplements given to meat animals in factory farming and supplements in so many of our other foods?
its always going to be this way......but remember meat was so expensive in some parts of the world people went without......there main problem with meat is that they eat it raw and call it rare LOL
I don't know where you get your facts from but saying that India has been vegetarian for hundreds of years is grossly ignorant. They haven't been vegetarian for even dozens of years.
You are basically allowing a small percentage of individuals representing the masses
@@kayc7442 @kayc7442 I'm not saying all of them have been vegetarian but a significant portion of thriving communities within India have fire hundreds of years. You are clueless. We have interviewed numerous people over 100 for my work. So far, 100% of those living above 115 have been vegetarian/vegan. Even if they were not in their youth, they switched in old age. These are specifically individuals who live on with zero medical interventions.
Sure
Where was this "work" done and who are these "numerous"(how many is numerous?) people? Is there some info available so we can read up on it? And who's to say they wouldn't have lived just as long if they didn't switch? Or maybe even longer? Also what was there health like toward the end? Robust or just existing? Or somewhere in between?
There was a man that died a few years ago at 115 years of age that wasn't plant based. The main thing to avoid is simple carbs, grains, sugar and processed garbage. The standard American diet is full of all of those things, plus seed oils and other inflammation causing substances.

A tip on what instinct can be based on is the research of Rupert Shaldrake from Cambridge UK on what he calls Morphogenic Fields. Something that allows animal species to store information for the species outside the individual brain capacity (sort of 'cloud'). Animals act instinctively without 'learning' because their brain accesses the morphogenic energy field where the species stores info and acts according with instructions kept there. Very interesting and support by tons of empirical data statistically processed.

People can thrive on any "diet" because it's not what we eat, but what we DON'T eat that manifests in good health and longevity.
I wish that instead of Tom taking 5 minutes to break down his own personal theories and then asking "is that right/wrong?" he would just skip straight to asking the guest for the answer. Nobody cares whether you have it right, Tom. We're here to listen to the experts.
I agree, it's not about Tom
I'd day he's basically applying active listening while attempting to connect these thoughts to other ideas and/or a bigger picture. I think it's a good way to challenge his guests and viewers to get a better grip on the stuff. But ya, I guess this approach works way better with philosophical/ self-help topics rather than empirical stuff and data in general.
@@alexscheffer7641 I think he's just trying to prove how much he knows. In any case, I don't care why he does it. It's annoying, unnecessary, and just wastes time.
Except, he’s speaking for others in the like him who are hearing this stuff and saying “What about “x”… 🤷🏻♀️
@@Teal_Seal Which requires only that he ask "What about..." and not that he deliver a 2 minute monologue explaining why he thinks he knows the answer.
Like if I'm going to ask somebody what their cake recipe is, I just ask "what's your cake recipe?" I don't spend 3 minutes explaining what I think the recipe is and why. Because then everybody at the table will hate me.
Moderation, Moderation, Moderation. Our earth has wide variety of many different types of foods to help us feel fulfilled daily. Live in moderation every day!!!!!
I think this guy is right in learning how to survive in the wild if shit were to hit the fan. We Normies are like babies.
Yes we can survive in the city, but we’d be dead within a week or two if stuck outside of our usual habitat.
Myself, I’m really interested in bush craft, and definitely love the idea of knowing how to survive, though I’ve never done a course.
Making your clothes from skin is such a great knowledge. This is the kind of guy I’d want on my team.
770+ lbs and I've lost 500 lbs and counting all by following a carnivore lifestyle. I failed many diets AND lapband surgey. Moderation/balance, what is that? When you are broken like I was, it's impossible to do! Carnivore diet has fixed all that and I look and feel better at 52 years old than did in my 20's. The doctor has given me a clean bill of health and I have her blessings. She is still flawed at my results.
So why does the carnivore diet work? It's given me the "off switch I never had. I eat my meal, then my brain switches off and I no longer think about food for hours. No cravings, no longer wondering when or where my next meal is coming from. This is food freedom! And for those that feel just eating meat is restrictive. Try being 770+ lbs. Try living with debilitating depression and anxiety forcing you to lock yourself in your home and hide from the world. I am free again, experiencing life. I am living again. The carnivore diet has been transforming for me in so many ways.
Vegetables/fruits. Not saying they are bad. But for me, they do trigger cravings. I know and understand that now. I will eat a few in social settings, but I am straight back on the carnivore wagon for the next meal. This I guess is moderation - which I COULD NOT do before. I know those who struggle with this don't understand. If you have not had to fight this battle then congratulations! You are obviously one of the lucky ones!
No to both ! its Bugs...Klaus said so !
Just look at evolutionary biology & reality. Pandas use to be omniovores like all the other bear species but became a vegetarian and has the morphology showing the internal change. I work with obese Amazon warehouse workers who work 12 hour shifts 4 days a week where they stand on their feet the whole shift, keep walking the whole shift and lift heavy boxes and pallets their whole shifts. I've worked with them for over 2 years, and if anything, I've watched them grow fatter, inspite of all their continual exercize.
Sadly, even stress alone can cause people to get fat.
cause they been eating shit 😂
I've been on a whole food plant diet for 10 years and weigh what I did in highschool. I still juggle run unicycle rollerskate oh and I am 52 and people think I'm in the the 30s
I eat mostly meat and fat. Also eat only once a day. I have 10 percent body fat. Do Jiu Jitsu 3 times a week. Clear skin and vibrant. Have energy all day ( work 10 hour shifts) unlike my coworkers. My blood work is phenomenal and always get praised by the doctor. So IDK. To each his own
Vegan, seven years , had gut issues when I ate meat 🍖 I follow the longevity community advice and try and keep mtor activation low , animal proteins cause advance glycation and increased mtor activation resulting in a speed up of aging . Thriving on plants 🪴

How come the CZcams version is often an hour longer than the Spotify versions? Love the podcast, it's a gift!
Exploring the fascinating debate between vegans and meat eaters, uncovering the secrets to longevity, and why this topic holds significance for all.

Our body need protein, walk an hour 30minutes a day , avoid smoking, alcohol and drugs and you will be fine.
Says someone who is not overweight and riddled with inflammation? For some, they need more invention and hope than that.
Why do people kill animals when they can actually live on plant based diet?
I respond a bit too well to taking creatine, where my body needs a lot of water to be able stay hydrated. After I starting taking it one time, a week later I had really bad cramping in my bowels so bad I went to the ER. Ultrasound showed a large amount of poop in basically my entire colon. Took some miralax, stopped my creatine, and was fine days later. If you were to tell me I was. That constipation felt like a knife getting stabbed multiple times into my stomach.
Taking a page from Mart Riddick, despite our ability to get foods from all over the world throughout the year, we should eat local for optimal health. Imported food are quite often deficient in nutrients and heavy with pesticide and preservatives. Yes human beings can adapt but our organs can also be exhausted.
Trees can live hundreds of years, we should attempt to put our feet on the dirt and hope we grown roots as part of the evolution toward this goal...
I dont really appreciate it when an interviewer/interviewee totally avoids answering questions because they could be wrong... many of us end up wrong at some point.. its nice to still attempt a hypothesis.
Quick counter to the point at 0:18:50 , olive oil may not be better, but the PFAS in the butter wrapper automatically makes it less healthy than olive oil in a glass bottle.
How much of the PFAS ends up in the butter?
Loved these stories lol

What is the piont to mention that panda was carnivore and now herbivore?! We are not panda but human !! How many years for pandas to make the transition ? A million plus years?!
Tom asked the question about whether blood tests or stool tests are a better measure of nutritional health and health in general. Dr. Reisman did not answer this question at all and went off on a different tangent entirely. He continued to do this throughout the video interview. I found that very misleading.
Greatest culture con/scam of all time …..an industry you have to wait until you are at deaths door to see the results 😂
Yes our body’s will adapt to junk foods or raw vegan or carnivore, I think it is a matter of listening to your bodies since we are all different we all may not need to strictly be a vegan for example or a carnivore it is just what feels best that’s all, if vegetables make your stomach hurt don’t eat them, the studies on longevity and carnivoreisum has NOT been done yet so…
Bodies are not adapting to junk food
It took me months to eat meat again after my cadaver lab, how ever watching people die and accidents weren't as hard after watching my partner pass in front of me. But its very true about compartmentalizing things, however I find that is what makes people feel that we are heartless when discussing things.

More deep dives have to happen on the gun microbiome. We are the bacteria in us. It is also our 2nd brain. Completely connected. People living in different regions have different gut microbe balances because they are fused with their environment and the bacteria in that environment, their food that determines the balance of the bacteria. So there is no one way to eat for everyone. There is a base of nutrients we need, but nutrition is directed by the gut microbiome. It also depends on where you live. Nutrition from food feeds the bacteria and determines the balance of it which determines your health like immune system health. An example is sugar. Too much sugar and you will be feeding and giving a rise to destructive bacteria in your gut which will signal to your brain to give it more sugar. You register it as a craving, meanwhile it's the gut bacteria controlling what your cravings are. You can get a test done to see what is the type of bacteria you have and the balance/dominance of what strand is in your gut. We most certainly are what we eat.
I am a meat eater that also eat vegan food (I check their label first 😊)
I mean, if it's good and the ingredients are good, sure, I'll eat something that's "vegan friendly".
Let's just get that out the way🤗😂
There is far more nuance to the growth pathways, mTOR, eating meat/protein, and longevity than most CZcams personalities understand. mTOR, IGF-1, and HGH are beneficial and not something to be feared. Everything deserves context. If you’re eating within a time window, exercising, not eating carbs/sugar or seed oils, and sleeping well, these growth pathways will be balanced and allow for you to live longer and with more lean muscle.
Pottenger’s Human on CZcams has an excellent break down of these nuances. Also, the conversation between David Sinclair and Paul Saladino sheds much light on this murky subject.
Higher IGF-1 = greater risk for cancer. You don't need to eat IGF-1 as an adult, its 'stupid af.
cant you get an intern for time stamps?
What happened to the chapters???
Tom looks like that tall guy in UK soap 'Emmerdale'
As Mum always said, eat what makes you happy but everything in moderation.
Our Ancestor's ate more meat than now? More than 3 times a day? Impossible. Our ancestors ate mostly plants and meat did not make our brains bigger. There were not refrigerators or freezers back then. Obviously. Fresh plants and dehydrated plants were the main sources. Look at the spice( dehydrated fruits and veggies) trade for example.
People have also been drying meats and fish since ancient times. Spice trade has more to it being "new".
Shot heroin 12 years been sober 10 ,had a frosty honeybun diet from child to 40 so 3 years ago at 43 ,I went from keto after two years went vegan and of course now probably from being constipated all them years from shooting, I have sibo, bacteria everywhere ,have had a transformational three years changing the structure of my DNA. my mind heart coherence ,had awakening Feb 2020 ,love myself finally through the bad programming from childhood has taken its toll on this young man I am ,mom and step dad lied to me till the age of 17 judge told me while I was facing consequences for breaking and entering the house I never went in with some friends.have 3 daughters 3 grandsons ,and a loving step son from my I'd say my awakening break up ex girlfriend son as when I had my awakening, which I was having my first panic attack with my breathing was uncontrollable, nothing like has ever happened to me. I was just really really done with all the drama I put myself through for 25 years. And damn it hit me I went out broke up with my girlfriend call my whole family told him to stay away from me unless they passed the pee test, and there's millions of stories to tell since then and not too many to tell before then when it comes to straighten in life out and finding yourself and realizing that there's more than meets the eye.

Serious question, what streptococcus A fair against vegan vs meat eater ?! I saw in Miami Florida flesh eating microbes after hurricane Ian...People are even antibiotics dependant making their immune system so weak...
While plant matter WILL ferment in our colon, it's not the design and causes issues. We've lost our functional caecum(appendix) from thousands of years of eating less and less vegetation and eating more meat with a little seasonal fruit.
Everything about human biology proves that we are carnivores and natural hunters.
Humans have many small fat cells like all carnivores. When you compare the structure of fat cells in various types of animals, carnivores are found to have a higher number of smaller fat cells and omnivores a smaller number of larger fat cells. Humans were found to be at the top of the carnivorous pattern. This shows that the energy metabolism of humans is adapted to a diet in which lipids and proteins rather than carbohydrates, make a major contribution to the energy supply.
Humans have the stomach acidity of a unique carnivore. Humans had a high level of acidity of 1.5 that lies between that of obligate and facultative scavengers. Producing acidity, and retaining the stomach walls to contain that acidity, is energetically expensive, so would presumably only evolve if the level of pathogens in the human diet was high. Note that herbivoros primates have a stomach pH varying from around 4 to 6. Most omnivores are between 2 and 4.
As previously noted, humans have a reduced energy extraction capacity from plants. Our large intestine, where fiber is processed to energy, is 77% smaller by volume than that of a chimpanzee our size. The size and our small intestine, where macronutrients are absorbed is 62% larger than that of a chimpanzee our size. The gut morphology adaptations both improved animal food exploitation and at the same time hindered the full exploitation of fibrous plant foods
Humans substituted primate climbing capabilities for an adaptation to throwing, which shows that the structure of our shoulder represents an adaptation to carnivory. Our shoulder is perfectly adapted to throwing, which is useful mainly in hunting and protection from predators. The chimpanzee’s shoulder is adapted to climbing trees.
Humans have much higher fat reserves than chimps, our closest relatives. Carrying a high amount of fat costs energy and reduces the speed of chasing or fleeting, but gives us the ability to go periods without food while we hunt and scavenge. Apes are constantly eating and surrounded by plants, and don’t need this function. If we were constantly eating plants, we wouldn’t have adapted this way.
Human jaws and teeth shrank, forfeiting chewing capabilities. We know early humans crafted tools to help process meat, even before fire. It takes 39% to 46% less force to chew and swallow processed meat than processed root foods. Evolution chose to forgo the ability to properly chew certain plant-based foods to allow for more room in the skull. The ability to use tools also explains why we don’t have carnivorous fangs - we didn’t have to tear raw flesh from a carcass with our bare teeth.
I was vegan for three years overall it was good higher energy yes definitely I did go back to eating chicken and fish, as far as eating red meat no it does not go well most of the time chicken digests good eggs only sometimes, but the only thing was eating vegan I felt I was craving more fat and as far as I can see as close to natural as possible quality is important and too much protein and fat is not great for maximum muscle output, an example is if I'm going to do a day of jogging on and off I will eat pancakes so it's a matter of also how food is being used as energy wholefoods the more the better no matter what
Thanks SO MUCH for your knowledge and time for Us to make better choices.
Eat for our blood TYPE. WORKS VERY WELL. VERY HELPFUL IN REGAINING strong muscles to think better & keep physically toned, strength to live with STRESSFUL ENVIRONMENTS of daily life. Moderation.
Native plains indians ate predominantly buffalo and if not killed early could live into their 100's. Optimal would most likely be meat and fasting... no toxic plants.
Tom when is too much knowledge just too much knowledge.
I watch your podcasts which are very good and informative.
What is the top 10 things one should be doing in regards to health and wellbeing?
🤔

I was a vegan for 6 years I have been carnivore for almost a year and I feel amazing sometimes I have crazy cravings
This guy says if you gave privative people q bunch of processed junk food they'd probably be fine and he feeds his kids oreos. Why exactly are we listening to him?
Look at the stature and brain size of humans before agriculture. We were bigger, faster, more robust and with bigger brains. We are hunters primarily and gather to supplement meat. That’s what we’re evolved to be optimised on.
All respect for tribes and ancient civilizations and every bodies personal choices but whole food plant based nutrition is with no doubt the best for all organs and the brain… also with supplementation. Today it is possible to choose your nutrition to match your values, your principles, your body and the growth of…

The lordosis hypothesis advanced in the context of lion predatory behavior was about as far left field as is possible.
Veganism is generally defined as living in a way that avoids consuming, using, or exploiting animals as much as realistically possible. While this leaves room for individual preferences & barriers, the overall intent is that minimal harm is done to animals through life choices. My friends don’t care what they eat as long as there’s no animals involved. Oreos & margaritas are vegan! 😂

No one else remembers parents putting Karo syrup in the bottles of constipated babies? I do and I do it today.
So two non-experts are discussing a topic they don't know anything about. I suggest you read about Dr. Salisbury (the inventor of the Salisbury Steak). He lived among the plains Indians and came away with the realization that they lived longer than the Europeans who came to America. Why were they longer lived? They ate an exclusive carnivore diet.
