I feel Nando is actually more of a rival to Zoey than he is to Dawn; I mean, he challenges Zoey's beliefs that a trainer should stick to either battling or Contests and not do both. He even beats Zoey in the Hearthome Contest. In short, I think it was a good move on the writers' part to have Zoey battle Nando in the Grand Festival rather than Dawn.
Same I literally wached every single ep of bw and I even looked up all the episodes on Google to ensure I didn't miss anything. Don't know why I did that because since bw came out every Saturday a new ep would show and I Never missed one. If I did a replay would just show again during the week.
Yeah, it sucks that Dawn lose, but it was impressive that she was second place in her first Grand Festival, especially in her first journey as a coordinator.
Zoe was kinda the Alain of DP if u think about it. They were main rivals to our heroes, they battled several times but our heroes never beat them, and it was still the case in the finals of an event that our hero should have won
Dawn is just the best regional companion Ash has ever had. It helps that they felt more like friends than most of Ash's other companions and they complimenting each other well, with their individual expertise help that other advance their own skills (like with the aerial dodge, counter shield, and ice aqua jet). Plus unlike other companions, not only did Ash join in on her thing (competing in contests) but she also battled a Gym Leader and an Elite Four member which, sure, she lost, but it's more most others did. Plus Ash has a keepsake of her in the form of Buisel, making her the only traveling companion to have that honor. They really felt more like equals that just "the girl who follows Ash around."

5 reasons why Dawn is better than Serena imo: 1. Dawn is not there just to be with Ash and for her goals. She also trained and helped ash at times. You're right she even battled a gym leader and participated in battle tournaments too unlike serena who is pretty much just there and useless in battle and never trained with ash because of her team of three weak pokemon. 2. Dawn has more entertaining and way better personality than serena who is basically the typical sweet girl of the show probably one of the most generic female characters i've seen in anime. 3. They're literally best friends with Ash and form a strong bond. Clearly better than serena's one sided crush 4. Pokemon contests > Pokemon performing all day 5. Pearlshippers aren't as cringy and cancerous as amourshippers
It's really just a normal contest in terms of impact, you only get a standard ribbon for winning it. The only thing that made it special was that May came back and it's based around a trainer from the games.
AussieDragoon It is an important contest in-universe, since the ribbon was valid in all regions with a contest circuit and thus attracted trainers from other regions (which was very underplayed since only May coming in from Johto was given major attention).
I think the Pokémon showcase was pretty good, but my only complaint is that like the grand festival, it is super rushed (admittedly, Serena winning Princess keys did). And Serena’s arc didn’t completely end when she got 2nd place.

I know that there's a lot of professions on pokemon where you don't need to battle, but I got accustomed to the female companion battling. The whole thing looked a lot like the "idol culture" that have been growing in Asia. Smile, dance, perform, do cute faces and poses to try to win the voters. I'm not really into it 😅

I’ll never forget how excited I was for this grand festival. I was graduating from high school around this time, & started high school when the DP series started... It felt like this huge finale to an era of my life! Sinnoh is what caused me to love contests so much:)
that’s pretty cool man the X and Y dub series ended around the time I ended middle school which was kinda weird because I loved X and Y but not middle school tbh.
I will always love Sinnoh for taking the contest arcs introduced in Hoenn and ramping them ALL the way up to 11; I honestly looked forward to Dawn's contests more than Ash's gym battles, they were THAT good. It's why I will always say that May and Dawn are both superstar female companions in their own right. May set the bar pretty damn high, and Dawn straddled the bar. By their powers combined, they made contests AMAZING

The sinnoh series was one of the first series I watched as a kid. I never watched it from start to finish, but watching this arc and then the sinnoh arc right afterwards just bring back lots of nostalgia. That aside, this Grand Festival is just done so well and Dawn's loss was handled very well, too.
While I love XYZ, the showcase stuff was like a watered down version of contests. Like the showcases were very repetitive when they were the focal point of the episode(s). Also, Jessilina was the best alter ego of Jessie.
💙 💙 💙 Dawn is my favorite character within the Pokémon series, a amazing protagonist, and traveler companion for ash. Dawn character definitely made an impact. What I love about dawn that make her character different from rest is her personality. For myself she felt relatable and realistic. Her struggles within the contest felt like my struggles. Her tears felt like I was crying. I never felt like that before. Paul Is greatest rival and truly a rival ash ever had. I don't understand the hate for Jessie? She's an amazing coordinator, she'd had a long journey through three regions and when she won her first contest, gained entry to the grand festival and got this far I cared way more. As someone who watched all of gen three, seeing Jessie in sinnoh be so good was unexpected, of course she wouldn't win but she really should have had more focus, she's a Major character, not a joke.
Dawn and May are my favorite female protagonists. The contest were so interesting in contrast to the usual pokemon battles. But she should have still won, imo.

I think Alain and zoey both work better than Tobias: at least we see a relationship develop with the rivals and we have the backstory to explain why they’re such tsunderes.
This was an amazing end to contests in the anime, they did a great job with the battles. It was a good end to Dawns contest journey even though she probably should have won.

I hated when they did that because he was my favorite rival to Dawn and they were tied 1-1 and were quite even in terms of Pokemon team strength. We were really robbed of what could've been a great battle between the two. This is the worst arc in the anime. I gave the video a dislike because Zac made excuses for poor writing.

I think Alain and zoey both work better than Tobias: at least we see a relationship develop with the rivals and we have the backstory to explain why they’re such tsunderes.

This was an amazing end to contests in the anime, they did a great job with the battles. It was a good end to Dawns contest journey even though she probably should have won.
I love Dawn, she and her Pokemon always had interesting moments but it showed development along the way too, which I like.

@@sageblast3143 honestly, Unova would’ve been good but it felt like they brought up these interesting plot points that go nowhere. Cilan having a rival and being a connoisseur could’ve been cool but he never does anything with it or train to be better. Meanwhile Iris could’ve been like ash and trained to be a dragon master but never did.

I liked the DP contests a lot more than May's. The rivals were way better. I like the costume aspect. And it just seemed better choreographed.

I hated when they did that because he was my favorite rival to Dawn and they were tied 1-1 and were quite even in terms of Pokemon team strength. We were really robbed of what could've been a great battle between the two. This is the worst arc in the anime. I gave the video a dislike because Zac made excuses for poor writing.

@@polaris7346 No?! Dawn wouldn't have lost in that rematch with Kenny. Dawn vs Ursula was Top 32. Dawn vs Jessie was Top 4. Dawn vs Kenny could've been a Top 8 match. Dawn would've won and moved on to face Jessie in Top 4. It would've been way better than the garbage we got.

Probably because it would be very boring. Even if you land 1 hit KO moves if you don't make the Pokemon shine while battling or performing then its just a battle.
the entire appeal of being a coordinator is making your moves showy and grandiose. battle effectiveness isn’t the main goal.

Best festival hands down. This just goes to show how much things have improved since the beginning. It was a sight to behold
The thing for me with dawns loss is it's kinda like ash losing the kalos league. Both against the rival they never beat. (Since Dawm never won a direct contest battle against zoë)
To me Dawn is the best Pokegirl. She-e-e-e is the very best like no one ever was.
