    Funny Slaking story;
When me and my old best friend battled Pokemon a lot in the old days, my Slaking was kind of a weird secret weapon. I outfitted it with Giga Impact, a Choice Band, and gave it Attack and Speed EVs, because my friend liked using one particular Mewtwo called "PsychoShocker". This was a scary Mewtwo that just seemed to cover every single type possible. It was kind of his ace - so, as soon as that one showed up, I'd bring in Slaking, who'd just launch the strongest Giga Impact possible.
Whatever happened to Slaking afterwards, it didn't really matter. He'd more than done his part.

To this day, I still think not releasing AZ's Floette is the BIGGEST missed opportunity Gamefreak has made. It has a fantastic design, an incredible signature move (both in name and effect), and is literally the cornerstone to Kalos' lore. Being able to use it would've been the equivalent to being able to use the original dragon in Unova; a Pokemon only spoken of in legend, unseen by human eyes for centuries. @@okayegg4597 The main thing is that Viggo doesn't insta-lose to Protect or _Fly_ lol. Slaking is a gimmick mon that's relegated to hitting hard as possible one turn, then giving the opponent time to either recover the damage, set up on him, or KO him back. Sure, he's got options like Taunt, Slack Off, etc., but none of that matters if the opponent can deal 50% in a single turn. Truant is genuinely just THAT bad an ability; losing half your turns is an _immense_ handicap, on par with Regigigas's Slow Start making it unable to deal damage.
Viggo may be a wet noodle by comparison, but it can still move every turn, respond, and _do_ things to prolong itself. 80/80 isn't a terrible physical defense baseline, just mediocre, and Bulk Up + Slack Off + Eviolite help make that something decent. In addition, that Normal typing means only one type is hitting you super-effectively, which shouldn't be discounted as a defensive option (you can also Tera if it helps!). The base 55 SpDef is embarrassing, though, so maybe avoid special attackers like your life depends on it (because it does!).
Base 80 Attack is pretty terrible on its own, but again, Bulk Up can help patch that into a workable state, and Return/Drain Punch + Knock Off is an okay attacking combination. With the proper opponent on the other side of the field, a Bulk Up + Slack Off set can put in work, even if it's middling at best.
At the end of the day, both of these Pokémon are in the lowest of the low competitive tiers. They've got very few redeeming qualities, and that's important to keep in mind when thinking, "how can [X] be worse than [Y]?" Nobody uses them for a reason, and it becomes clear why when you try to do so.

Dragonair is gorgeous, but I can understand the direction GF went with Dragonite. There was a metamorphosis theme going on with the earliest gen reptilian pseudo-legendaries (Dragonite, Tyranitar and Salamence). In lots of gens, there's an early bug type with a middle stage that's wildly different from the other stages (or only the third stage). These bug types teach the player the concept of evolution, and it's repeated all over with the pseudo-legendary.
Dusknoir and Electivire started out as worse than their pre-evolutions, but later the low stats of their pre-evolutions caught up with them. It's more like the second stages got worse than the third stages got better, though Dusknoir got Poltergeist.
Honchkrow is also strictly worse than Murkrow in doubles, because it loses Prankster and a bit of speed.

Except those others still track. I love tyranitar for instance because it's what you expected from larvitar coming out of a cocoon. Its just a bigger larvitar. At most you might have expected a butterfly situation. The problem with dragonite is that it comes out of nowhere. 2 evolutions leading to a water serpent design and bam, chubby Charizard. It's not even blue! You can do a big change with something like magicarp because the goal is to see if it becomes something better and it does with one evolution. Just like feebas later. They work because of that. All the bug types follow known styles of evolution too.
Going dratini into dragonite woulda been less confusing than going dratini dragonair and then changing it up entirely.

Dragonair's line is actually based off of this one myth; it's from somewhere in Asia, where exactly escapes me, but it goes something like this: there are both sea dragons and true dragons. If a sea dragon catches a dragon orb, it becomes a true dragon and gains the power of flight and all the typical dragony stuff. Dratini's line is based off of this; Dratini is a sea dragon (typically represented as more serpentine) then Dragonair is a sea dragon catching a pearl, then dragonite has a big design shift towards being more of a middle eastern dragon, thus becoming a "true" dragon.
Now, True dragons actually look like what most people think of when they hear "Chinese dragon". I don't know why they went with shifting over to a middle eastern dragon, but they did.

Also, I've never seen Shell Bell Aron before, but I have seen Berry Juice Recycle Aron, which is its own form of annoying. One more thing: to this day, I still think Florges' line should've been dual type Fairy/Grass. They learn a bunch of grass type moves and they have flowers as major parts of their designs. My first thought when I saw Flabebe was, "Oh, you must be grass/fairy, this will be good to add to my team to cover for my Fennekin since its final form is Fire/Psychic". That's not odd.
Preffering a mahou-shojo(magical girl)/school girl fire fox with its weirdly, offputtingly unnatural legs that looks like she is wearing black tights (yeah it is actually fur but doesn't really look like that) over the mystical, wise, graceful, elegant somewhat mysterious but regal and benevolent great fire sorcesress/archmage or even a priestess fox-lady, with it;s robes actually cleverly implemented and naturally blended into design (making it actually look like believable, natural creature) is what's odd ;)
I really cuoldn't and can never understand preferring Braixen over Delphox and I don't think I ever will (thus I'm so happy that Serena's Braixen finally evolved into Delphox during her journey through Hoenn... though I would prefer it happening already in XY)

I always saw them as parts of a whole, because they legitimately just represent diffrent steps in life for the same underlying concepts. If one were young and were able to cast magic, there is a decent chance one would use it for popularity and being an idol fits well. Getting too old to perform and becoming more mature and wise with age, one would logically start to persue the craft for its own sake, thus becoming a lone witch.
The first stage always stood out tho. It's literally just a kid fox. I mean, it's cute, but it just feels disconnected from the later two stages conceptually.

It’s based on a snake or serpent and in evolutionary biology, it is thought that snakes used to have limbs (through fossil records and their vestigial legs seen today from their bone structure). So as it evolves, it’s legs becomes more and more reduced until they’re gone.

Rhyperior has always been in my top of favourites mon designs. His color scheme is amazing, the grey and orange mix very well together, and gives off this magma/molten rock vibes.
Design wise. To me it seems like Rhyperior is shaped like a mole, that uses its horn to help him excavate through the ground. These light design inspirations help to settle in his overall "molten magma slinger" aesthetic, since moles are underground just like magma lol.
Then we have the cannons on its hands. They clearly are there to imply that the mon can shoot out magma and what not out of his body (which is really heckin cool :D).
Also, the plaques on his body seems to have a "security vest" type of vibe, which makes me believe that they choose this pattern since it looks like a demolitions expert, which fits the whole aesthetic of "magma slinging pokemon". Even his helmet thingy, to me, looks more like a pair of noise cancellation headphones that are used by demolitions experts.
Last but not least, his bulky size combined with his molten magma aesthetic and menacing look (which is enhanced by that horn) makes him look so terrifying (which is really heckin cool :D). I also might be biased since it looked so menacing and cool in the anime lol.
