What could possibly be more satisfying than not only owning a new house, but owning a house that you built from the foundation up. God bless your new house and the good times you and your family will have there.
I'm starting to feel the same way. We've never lived in a new house or anything close to new. Feels very satisfying to get to this point.
I love seeing your new house at the point where it's almost done. You all must be so excited! And I hope your figs are doing well!!
Figs are good. Finally starting to get some ripe figs. Still a lot to do on the house but yes, it’s definitely satisfying to be this far along.
Delighted for you Mike. Take care of yourself.
Somebody's an absolute genius thinking of shades of green for outside!!! That will blend with the pole buildings perfectly. Its just all coming together!!!
Sure is! A few people have mentioned the green and it’s really growing on me now. Still not 100% sure on exterior color but I’m sure we’ll get it right in the end. I hope anyway.
It’s really coming together nicely! Wow! That’s looking amazing! How exciting! What a nice layout, great job!👏
Thanks! We spent a TON of time designing this house and are really happy with the layout.
Good afternoon. Mr. Mike, house looks a big, congratulations on your new house.👋👍
Thanks! Yes, looks bigger than I imagined.
I love the idea of the white ceilings and the agreeable grey! Very relaxing colors and reflective!
Thanks! We finally decided on those colors and are very happy we did.
Wow, Mike, there has been a massive transformation since you gave us the last new house tour. I know the decision to paint the ceiling white or match the wall color will be difficult. (That was really a tough decision when we remodeled.) Yes, it's less work and expense (as you mentioned) if the painter doesn't have to tape everything off before painting the walls, but if your heart is set on having white ceilings, just do it, so you won't regret the decision down the road. Ask Sherwin-Williams if they have a software program where you can do a virtual of your rooms with your chosen paint colors. Whatever you and Shelley decide will look wonderful. I hope your family has a fun relaxing weekend. ~Margie🤗🦋🐞🍀
Thanks Margie! We finally decided on interior paint and the ball is rolling. We decided on Agreeable Gray walls and Extra White ceilings. Very happy with those choices. We would have regretted not doing the white ceilings as we want that big feel and plenty of light.
I love the tall ceilings!
We are so glad we did the 9 foot ceilings with the 10 foot bump up in the living room. Makes it feel bigger than it is.
So exciting to see how your house is progressing. Your house has a great layout and cannot wait to see the finished product.
Me too!
Not redundant at all! I want to see all of it and I am so happy for your family! It is going to be beautiful with either paint color and I am excited to see which colors you choose.
We finally made the decision last week and sent it off to the painter. We decided on Sherwin Williams Agreeable Gray (SW 7029) walls and Extra White (SW7006) ceiling. It was kind of funny picking out the white. We thought we were done after choosing the agreeable gray walls and I said, "Alright, the walls are done and we want white for the ceiling." That was the point I looked up white and saw that there are about 50,000 whites, hahaha. It was maddening for a few days as we looked at them all.
@@MikeKincaid79 the hard work is paying off! I'm excited to see everything come together.
I have 2 doorways wrapped in sheet rock. Didn't like it at first, but now I am glad there is no trim around those doorways. They seem to just blend into the wall. You can always add trim later. Let that beautiful house tell you what it wants!!!
I like that idea!
Cool job! And yeah agreeable grey could be a good choice. The thing to do is put your skin next to the color to see how the color influences your skin color. Sprinkling in a little green could be great for contrast. Also: what are the colors of your furniture? That said, it's all about the taste of the people who will spend most time in the space, so do make it a group effort! White ceiling is a good idea for the lightning, but I'd say don't be too worried about choosing something off-white, it could make a subtle difference in atmosphere. Good luck!
Thanks, I appreciate the ideas. It's crazy how many decisions there are to be made during a house build. Don't think I was ready for that part.
Michael, I am so impressed with how this dream home is coming along. Regarding the underground buried lines, think about having tracer wire placed with the all underground lines so that you can find them again in the future in case you should need to dig the ground up in the fute. I might even place a couple of yard sticks rulers on the conduit and sticking up so that after top soil goes on you will have guaranteed location and the depth of those lines underground. After the top soil and grass is in, you can either leave the yard sticks in or replace them with some sort of monument type of thing so you will know exactly where location & depth are.
I hear you Roy. I've thought about a lot of different ideas, really like yours. In the end, I've been filming it all and taking extra video with measurements so that I can always refer back for where the lines are.
That's a good idea! I WISH I had done something like that when MY house was built way back in 1985 for my underground electric line to my shed, and the sprinkler lines too. Now I have NO CLUE where those damn things are exactly. And of course, here in NJ, the "Call Before You Dig" number (811) will only result with the Utility lines that run from the street to their meter. No PRIVATE lines will ever get marked-out. Under NJ law, we homeowners are liable to mark-out our private lines
Same here with private lines. I put in a water line years ago and forgot where it was within a couple years, just a general idea of its whereabouts. I like filming it because it leaves no question unanswered, plus you can add measurements into the video. Seeing is believing when burying lines.
Hi Mike, you've helped me so much with gardening. I'm so happy for you!
I'm very glad to hear that, Sue! Over the years, I've put so much heart and soul into the gardening videos. It feels weird that I've put out hardly any garden videos this summer but I'll get back to it when all this is done. Thanks for being here.
I'm surprised that you didn't incorporate a plant propagation room in the build. I'm sure that you'll eventually claim some area of the house for that purpose - and us fans will be thrilled to see those new videos as well! House is looking good!
Same here! But I know Mike has a green house propagation area. I'm sure he doesn't like his mansion to be rubbish because of soil droplets
I originally did. It had a third car garage that had windows in place of a garage door and was more of a shop. It was fully insulated and had skylights all along the ceiling. In the end we couldn’t afford it but it’s still in the plans and we can always add on later. It’s been sad to not include that huge plant room but I’ve got other cool ideas to make up for that. I really want to build a large greenhouse.
I agree with white ceilings…it really makes the walls pop!! I went on line to check out “agreeable gray” …It looks really nice. 😃
We just repainted our living dining and hall with a Benjamin Moore “bunny gray” and used “Thundercloud gray” as an accent wall around our existing natural stone fireplace. These colors are in the “cool gray” category that coordinated better with the stone than the pretty warmer gray!
Love seeing the updates and progress on your home 🏡
Thanks, I'll have another one out soon. The exterior pain is almost done. Yeah, we almost chose a cooler gray "repose gray" for interior but changed out mind to agreeable gray. We are very happy with it.
We have repose grey too. Just be aware of the darker the color and smaller the room the colors bounce off the walls making it appear smaller. Your office will likely be the only room with that issue. Great progress!
Shellie really loved that color. We have a friend who painted all their walls repose gray and it looks really nice. We went with the Agreeable Gray because it has a slight tint of beige and felt a little warmer but Repose Gray is definitely a fabulous color.
OK. Here's a suggestion. In that crawl space, put 100-W LED bare bulbs in every nook and cranny--nothing fancy, just light. Fix it so one switch at or near the entry will turn everything on. It could even be powered by some kind of independent source: solar, small power station, etc. You will be so glad anytime you have to be down there. Any repair or maintenance guys that need to go down there will bless you. You will hardly ever need them, and usually not for long. But you will be so glad. Experience speaks. Beautiful work. I like the green.
BTW... If the lights are on at night, anyone driving by will think you're launching a rocket.
Lol, I like the rocket house idea. Actually, that’s a great idea that would save a lot of head bumps.
Install some light tubes in the closets and pantry before it’s too late. My wife reminds me at least once a year
Uh oh, it's too late, haha. Well, it's really never too late. Don't worry though, I've thought a lot about solar tubes and have read about and watched hours of video about installing them. I'd love to put them all over the house and plan to eventually. Part of not doing it now is due to money. Once we get to the end of this, lick our wounds, and recover financially, we'll start talking about that. I even have ideas about a huge dormer up on the roof right over the kitchen that just has a large window letting a ton of natural light in. I know it would have been cheaper to do it now but it would have added considerable expense that we don't have now. If money is ever available for it though, I'm doing it. It would be in a great spot on the roof too and add a lot of curb appeal.
@@MikeKincaid79 so happy your home is progressing well. Dry team sure went the whole mile for ya👍
Totally do the white ceilings. You won’t regret it. Specially considering that it will make it brighter which will definitely be worth the investment.
We made the decision and went with the white ceilings! I know we would have regretted not doing it. The colors we chose are Agreeable Gray for walls and Extra White for ceilings. Thanks Anne!
Hello Mike , can't wait to see your dream house for viewing when it's done. I will keep checking .. Have a blessed Weekend . God Bless You all.
Same to you Donna. Thanks for following our journey.
Mike, I love it, and I say you guys will be living there not any of us ,you choose the colors that you can live with and that you like, I don't care what color it is, I will love it because it is what you guys choose. Please tell everyone I love them and of course I love you too❣️👍💖
Awe, we love you Glenda. Sorry we haven't talked a lot this summer, just been so busy. Can't wait to get back on here more often and get back to plants. I hope all is well with you and your family!
Looks really good Mike. I am sure you guys are so excited by the achievements. You can never go wrong with shades of gray. I think the outside should be done in a heritage color. They tend to be more grounded and earthy. Thanks for the updates.
I'll have to look that up, thanks! Yeah, we definitely want grounded and earthy.
I prefer white ceiling and whitewalls to green or brown. It will make your house cooler and wider ❤
Our current house has white on everything and we wanted to add a little color this time. After 17 years of white, we need a change. Kind of funny though because shades of white are all the rage now and gray colors are going out. We like the warm gray colors though and I'm sure the tides will turn again in 2 years.
Well said. I respect your decision. I like your new mansion. In the Philippines, new houses use PVC board because it is anti termite, anti fire and molds free as compared to wood. Just a cent here
Interesting. I’ll have to look into that.
I suggested Agreeable Grey for my Son and Daughter in law remodel 2 years ago. The white (Alblaster by SW) trim and cabinets compliment nicely. They had wood flooring put in throughout with grey overtones.
My youngest brother liked it so much he redid his whole house in that color. Lucky my husband worked SW and got a good family discount.
Funny thing is he isn’t a painter and hates painting. I was a professional painter before we met and I love painting. He retired last year. Yeah!
I think you and Shelly will love the color-pleasing to the eyes and a nice warm neutral color that goes with everything.
Also do the ceilings white, if you do it all grey it will darken the room. The white will make the grey pop in a harmonious way and if you put crown up later that will add a beautiful dimension.
I appreciate the personal experience and feedback about those colors. We ended up choosing Agreeable Gray for walls and Extra White for ceilings. We would have regretted not doing white ceilings for sure. Can’t wait to see it all done.
Absolutely paint the ceiling white!! I considered the absolute grey myself.. I may still go with it, but , like you, I found some really nice greens as well! You don't have to have all of the rooms the same color, and a gallon of paint goes farther than you might think!
We decided to splurge and chose the white ceilings. I think we would have regretted not doing that.
Interior colors sound great & I like the green idea for outside.
Great! What shades of green? I need all the help I can get, haha
Definitely white ceilings! As you said it will help with the light reflection and it will make the rooms feel bigger. I haven't looked up the gray color but it sounds wonderful.
We "bit the bullet" and decided on white ceilings despite the extra cost. I just need to feel like it has wide open and brighter ceilings. I think I would have regretted it if we didn't do white ceilings.
A lot of progress. You are really close to being done. Just a few things to finish up and designing and installing floors, doors cabinets, tiling, etc. The most fun and exciting part of building a house. Good to see all the progress, can't wait to see the next one.
The most fun part for the woman, hahaha. I loved the main structure build but picking out all the interior is driving me nuts! Shellie is having a ball though.
@@MikeKincaid79 You're totally right about that. ☺️
Поздравляю, Николай!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Спасибо!
THANKS FOR SHARING! I PRAY YALL GET TO MOVE IN AND ENJOY YOUR NEW HOME VERY SOON!
Thank you so much!!
Looking great Mike! Thanks for sharing the progress. I'm enjoying it!
Thanks for hanging here with us Daniel. It's really coming along now. Should have interior paint, doors, and trim soon.
Keep the updates coming 🏡👍
I just painted the outside of my house and here are my SW colors. Body = Herbal Wash (SW7039, kind of a warm green), Windows and Trim = Natural Choice (SW 7011, a little warmer than white), and Chateau Brown (SW 7510) around the top. It's a great combination!!
Sounds nice, I'll have to look those colors up. We actually just painted our exterior as well. I'll do a video revealing the colors.
Exciting! Moving right along.❤️
Looking do good! I love the 10 ft ceiling. I did a 12 in drop of color with crown moulding and trim. Always gets compliments. Carpet absorbs sound, makes a huge difference. I don't know a single person that has hardwood floors that do not have throw rugs on them.....except the kitchen :)
I think we'll have to do some throw rugs to cut down on noise and spruce up the decoration a little. I'd love to do crown moulding at some point.
Looking great Mike! Over here everybody paints ceilings white - it's the cheapest paint colour there is and we need all the light we can get in the dingy north of England
Yep, same here. We have very similar weather and it's usually cloudy for about 9 months out of the year.
It's so exciting to see your new home coming together. I have never had a new home built, but I had similar emotions when I had a house fire and had to have my basement gutted and rebuilt and I was finally able to come back home, albeit a little lonely because I lost my poodles to smoke inhalation. The new home on your nice farm is exciting. Congratulations!
Oh man, I'm sorry to hear about that. That would be a devastating thing to have happen. Do you know what caused the fire?
The electrical cord for my freezer got nicked and shorted out and started some boxes on fire. Thank You for your comments. @@MikeKincaid79
It’s good to learn from each other. I will check my cords.
It's coming along great!
Paint colors for the interior sound good. They fit you and your family. I like Green for the exterior of the house. Years ago I kept liking this sage green house and I was not sure why I liked it so much. It was sage green with some white and a small amount of black trim. Then one day it hit me, it looked so good because the roof was black not some shade of brown like all the other houses. The trim matching the roof color really pulled it together!
Now that’s an interesting idea. I’m really having a hard time picking exterior colors because they make a huge statement about the house. Maybe I’ll flip a coin, lol
There is software that can show you what it would look like if you take a photo of your house to the paint store!@@MikeKincaid79
I didn’t know that. It would really help to see it. Shellie and I plan to take a trip to the SW paint store soon. I’ll take some good pics first. Thanks, Zavia!
You are welcome. They can do it for indoors too!@@MikeKincaid79
The first thing I saw was all the cutouts for the outlets. Sssoooooo many outlets! 😂 you won’t regret them. I like agreeable gray, it’s not as trendy as repose gray. I do like white ceilings, but having them the same color will make the rooms feel bigger. Just a thought. So jealous of the finished garage. Can’t wait to see what’s next.
Interior paint is pretty much done and we love the decision. Lights are mostly in now. Need to get an update.
That house is really looking good Mike! Thanks for sharing the update with us!💖👍😎JP
No problem 👍 Thanks for being here. We should be getting interior paint, doors, and trim next.
@@MikeKincaid79 😎
THANKS YOU MIKE LOVE DAVID😀🥰😀🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Looking great 👍👍👍 The grey tones are excellent. Beige is just dirty white. Won’t be long now!
We went with Agreeable Gray and Extra White for ceilings. I think we'll be really happy with those colors.
That’s going to look great!
Yahoo we have walls.
Nice huh. It's amazing how the drywall changes the whole look of the house.
Looking amazing man
Nice progress. Definitely go with white ceilings. Go with lighter, more reflective colors for the walls. I own a handful of rentals and I'm a contractor that periodically chooses colors, so I experiment with these jobs. I've done white, sage green, yellow, blue; they all have their place, but I think I'll save the greens for smaller rooms and accents and the rest for overall.
Thanks. We ended up deciding on the Agreeable Gray walls and Extra White ceilings. Really happy about the white ceilings as we wanted a bigger and brighter feel to the rooms. I appreciate your professional opinion.
Wow, it's really coming along! Definitely white ceilings (I love the 10' height). As fas as the walls, either the grey or the green will be nice. I think once you get your furniture in it won't echo like it does. You mentioned carpet, but wood and tile floors are just so much easier to keep clean, imho, and especially good if you tend to have general allergies. But yeah, the house is really coming along beautifully. Looking forward to the next update. 😊
I wholeheartedly agree about no carpet. I'm pushing for LVP and tile throughout. Shellie wanted carpet in the bedrooms but I think I've got her convinced to not do carpet and put a few throw rugs in certain areas.
@@MikeKincaid79 Good choice!
Looking so good!!😊
Thanks Karen!
looking great!
earthy green exterior and grey interior would look nice; top it off with a colored door👍🏾
Still looking at greens for the exterior, as we got so many suggestions for that.
Wow it's coming along fantastic and I think you can probably start to see light at the end of the tunnel as they say.
I would not send back the leftover sheets of sheetrock because somewhere down the road you're gonna need them. Tuck them away for now.
Why not let the girls choose the color for their bedrooms - within reason of course. I'll bet that they will love that you give them that option.
We may let them paint there room after all this is done but for now we’re just going to blast the interior walls all one color. It all comes down to cost right now. It wouldn’t be tough to repaint their rooms after all this is done.
Well, I don't know about grey, but I know I love the summer sky blue in my living room. It is a very light blue (not baby blue!). And yes, I would go for the white ceilings. Opens the space up and also brightens it. 😉
We ended up choosing white ceilings and are very happy with that. Shellie wanted gray but the color gray we chose actually feels very warm. We’ll see how it turns out.
Wow the build is coming along nicely looking really fab❤
Thanks Charlotte!
Mike, colors are very personal, so whatever Shelly likes would be my rule😎 & Sherwin Williams is a good brand, if you are picking from their color chart, you can go back & reorder that color for touch-up, years to come. One suggestion I would make, is other than bathroom walls & ceilings, for easy maintenance, use a flat paint instead of any product with a sheen, like gloss, semi-gloss or even eggshell. Don't believe any claims that they are washable, they are not. If you have to use any cleaner or even scrub w/water, some of the sheen will come off & you can't touch it up. You'll have a dull spot or shiny spot if try to touch it up & will have to paint the wall corner to corner for it to blend in with the surrounding walls. Think about how each coat of varnish makes the work surface glossier, paints with a sheen react the same way. A flat finish is much easier to maintain & even hide any small imperfections in your texture. It's also easier to clean & easily touches up without being noticeable. With all the outside work you, Shelly & the girls do, you know the walls will get dirty occasionally, lot easier to keep a quart or 1/2 gallon of wall paint & a washable brush under the sink or interior closet for touch up, than needing to paint corner to corner. Last but not least, flat paint is cheaper. 👍Another suggestion to save your back & some time, instead of digging the telephone line conduit up, what about disconnecting it at the house, cut the conduit where it goes underground, pull the line back & rerun it in some new conduit, in the ditch you just dug? Sounds like the difference in an hour job & a half day job & not near as back breaking. Good luck, sir, the house is looking fantastic. EDIT: Just looked up your wall color, almost the exact colors I've been using in my 2 rentals for over 30 years, it's a very timeless color scheme. BTW, all my trim & doors are the same color as the ceilings.
Right on. We’ll that’s good to hear we picked some good colors. Glad to hear your view on the paint finish because Shellie is driving herself nuts with every detail 😂.
Really nice Mike! Sage green with white trim is beautiful! Agreeable grey it's a little beigy.... it's not going to show up gray at all. I suggest you go pick up a few samples and paint a swatch on different walls and different rooms and live with them for a bit and look at them at night during the day, in the morning, afternoon.... and see how you like it. Also pick up another color or 2 and do the same and in the end you pick up the one you like best! Also the same with the ceiling. If you go with agreeable grey a stark white might be too much maybe a little warmer? I was looking at grays and I like this one SW 7661 Reflection but it's not my house. You will do fine, just paint some areas with 3 different gray nuances and see which one you like best for your house. Good luck! Blessings 🙏💞💞 hugs
Thanks so much for your input, Camelia. Shellie is the main driver behind interior color. She really liked the grays but wanted something warmer. We looked at them for so long. My only concern about Agreeable Gray is that it seems to have a slight pink tint. She loves it though. I think it's a really nice warm grey, just nervous about the pink but I do really like the warmer beige feel.
Looks amazing Mike! That drywall sure is messy stuff. The house is really coming along nicely. Have a great week👍
Yeah, no kidding. So glad they put paper down first cause there’s a ton of dried mud all over the floor. The paper will make for quick cleanup
Wonderful!😊
What an exciting adventure! This is an amazing oportunity to build your dream like this. Its looking great! Stoked for you bro!
Thanks! It’s been an interesting journey.
@@MikeKincaid79 i think youll be able to enjoy it so much more once everythings done and your all settled in. Then you can look back and see how everything worked together for good
Absolutely. I’m definitely looking forward to getting to the end of this so I can refocus on the landscape again.
Leaps and bounds!
Already gettin in the finish work. Crazy how quickly she came along. At least from my perspective. 😉
Yeah, when I look back, it wen't pretty quick. Sure didn't feel like it in the moment, but all in all it's amazing that we're at this point already. As we move along, the decisions are getting tougher and more of them. Interior decisions aren't nearly as fun as building the structure (in my opinion) but Shellie is having a blast.
Agreeable grey is lovely and definitely do the white ceilings! Worth every cent! It would too dark if you did the grey on the ceilings too! Love the house, looking great! I also like the sage, thyme, etc... greens for the property! That would look great!
We did it! We chose Agreeable Gray for walls and Extra White for ceilings. I think we'll be really happy with those colors. I think I would have regretted painting the ceilings gray.
For the outside do white house color with Pea soup/Benjamin Moore color for the door and or shutters. You can get the Benjamin Moore color and have Sherwin Williams mix it. Cheaper paint but just as good. I used Revere Pewter by Ben Moore and mixed by Sherwin Williams. Just remember the grade of paint matters.
I appreciate the idea. Seems that many people are moving toward the white farmhouse look. B
Looking so good. I love Agreeable Gray - a nice neutral color. Check out Extra White for a possible ceiling color - coordinates with AG. Looking forward to the next steps!
So glad to hear you say that Cindy, because that's exactly what we chose. We had to give our decision to the contractor a couple days ago and we thought we were settled on Agreeable Gray and Pure White, but at the last minute Shellie decided on Extra White and I'm glad she did. I think we'll be very happy with the color combo.
Hi Mike
It's looking great and thanks for the update,i think agreeable gray would be nice for the walls and white for the ceiling, always has to be white.
The outside walls would look good with a sage green.
Carol
I hear that about the green a lot. We're starting to look more into greens for the outside, still undecided on exterior paint. Our contractor originally was trying to save us money and recommended we find a lighter shade of gray and then paint all one color. When we looked at pictures, we knew we had to do white ceilings. Any color in the ceiling tends to darken the room, and like our contractor said, we're sunny people and would probably like a more light and airy color. That's why we chose Agreeable Gray for the walls instead of our original choice of Repose Gray. The Repose had a cold feel with the slightest tint of blue, whereas the Agreeable Gray was a warmer feel with a little beige in it. As soon as I saw it, I knew it was perfect.
@@MikeKincaid79
I think that a white ceiling makes the room look as if it's a higher ceiling. Also you're right about the repose gray.
Looking good
Thanks Nate.
Oh man you do a lot of good work keep it up.....
I appreciate that!
I've always thought white for ceilings, but when I built my place the builder suggested the ceiling be done with a 1/4 strength colour of the walls. My wall colour is similar to what you are looking at and the ceiling in the 1/4 shade looks about the same as I would have expected for white. I read one of your other replies that suggested that the extra cost is for masking up for 2 different colours, so that suggestion probably wouldn't help costwise. Have you considered not texturing the walls? I don't think anyone does that here (Australia), just painted, flat walls. It looks a bit 80's to me, but it seems to be common in American homes. Presumably it would cut cost if it wasn't done.
Already done. The texture was a part of the drywall quote and they came in and textured the whole house in about an hour. Yes, that's almost exclusively what gets done on the walls here in the US. I like the 1/4 strength idea and hadn't thought of that.
Wonderful progress :-)
Interior Colors
White and Agreeable Grey... perfect. It'll pop really nice with the white trim.
Exterior Colors
An olive/sage/ashy color on the exterior will complement the building colors in the background, yet still be distinctive enough. Love that idea... Also, give some thought to the landscaping and the colors you might have in your plantings to contrast with the exterior color. For example, the deep reds of a Japanese Maple (and crimson reds in the fall) would look stunning against a greenish/olive exterior, as would chartreuse green shrubs, peach or white rhododendrons, golden yellow foilage in the fall, etc.
I love this stage... things start to get exciting (and yes, potentially costly). Can't wait to see what you all pick!
Really appreciate the paint recommendations. Still struggling with exterior color but shades of green seem to be the most popular right now.
We’re a little nervous about the interior expense but it’ll work out in the long run.
As a designer I’ll let you know what most home owners don’t yet….gray is on its way (in many areas already is) out….but if you still want it you made a good choice as SW Agreeable Gray is warmer and if you ever want to add to it the Anew Gray (same paint strip) is a lovely warm gray to accent with. (Greiges have been popular awhile (because gray became too polarizing)😉
A note to add on…one can always re paint walls as decor changes but floors are a huge investment and I would suggest (if you haven’t chosen yet) to choose your hard floors in the color of wood. Be it warm, dark or blond …not gray. It’s looking wonderful….and their moving right along on it. You’ll be in for the holidays at this pace👏🏻
Another PS😊. We had our new home exterior done in Green. On 2 acres and it really looks great against the trees….still stands out.
I so appreciate your advice. My biggest gripe all along is that I’m not a decorator or designer and I’m clueless when it comes to color. Shellie is a little better but neither of us really know how to pick colors. The good news is that (based on what I’m hearing from you) we’re on the right track. Shellie was obsessed with repose gray for the longest time but when it came time to choose and we actually looked at grays side by side, I became obsessed with the agreeable gray and Shellie agreed. It looks so much warmer. It’s perfect for us! Plus, doing Extra white on the ceilings will brighten it up.
I’m just curious, what color green did you paint your house? Is it 2 tone? Are there any browns and greens that go together so that we can paint the siding one color and the gables a different color? Is it better to have darker gables than the walls or the other way around? I understand if you can’t go into great detail on all that. I do appreciate you help.
Oh, and we definitely don’t want gray floors. We’re thinking a wood color more on the darker side but not too dark.
@@MikeKincaid79 Yes I believe they do…green (warm greens) & browns are in nature so they go together. We did a custom color, light very faint green on the lap siding and dark green with brown undertones in the upper shake siding gables & garage doors. Paint can seem complicated….so many choices & they all have those undertones. Good luck…it will look beautiful.😊
Ps I would get those samples from SW and play with the greens and browns. Another beautiful brown, gray with green undertones is Urbane Bronze…a very popular SW color….that would be a color to consider…it goes with green, grays.
I really like that urban bronze color. Thanks!
Ok I see now why the paper was down on the subfloor…..to keep them clean from the drywall mud. In our 5 builds not once was that done for us. We usually came in a scraped the subfloor and still we have repairs to be done because the LVP has bits rising through it (flooring contractors apparently didn’t care what they walked while installing down our new floor.
Yes, the paper is a blessing. The contractor said they didn’t use to do that with the paper and it all had to be scraped and sanded.
Hello Mike, since you asked about the paint color SW Agreeable Gray, the color gray has been a very popular color for at least a decade but now it's going out and the trend is for people to opt for more warmer colors. Right now, for a neutral color, shades of beige are popular. Going with a gray color might tend to date your brand new house but I'm not for always following trends and if you are really in love with Agreeable Gray, go for it. It has been a very popular Sherwin Williams color for painting the entire house. Agreeable Gray is a greige color that includes some beige which makes it a warmer gray than many of the steel gray cooler shades. If you go with Agreeable Gray, SW Pure White would be a good ceiling and trim choice.
I meant to tell you that the echo in your bare house is not unusual. You will see a big difference once your furniture, cabinets, window coverings are in. Wall to wall carpet is definitely on the way out and I totally agree with that. You can never thoroughly clean carpet and it is also bad for allergies. I tore out brand new carpet in a house I bought that was new 5 years ago and put in luxury vinyl plank and I love it! Easy to clean, waterproof and it is comfortable under foot. I would never have carpet again except as area rugs that can be easily changed.
I really appreciate the input, Melody. The color scheme was a tough thing to get through, lol, more for Shellie than I. We looked long and hard at Agreeable Gray and Pure White together, and at one point we almost chose that pair, but in the end we settled on Agreeable Gray and Extra White. The reason was because Shellie wanted absolutely no yellow and she kept seeing slight hues of yellow in the Pure White. The Extra White was a little brighter and stood apart a little more from the Agreeable Gray. My only concern with the Extra White is that it might feel a little colder. Anyway, we sent the decision off to the painter so fingers crossed it works out well. So many whites to choose from, it's maddening, lol.
I really appreciate your personal experience with the floors. I desperately want to get rid of all carpet and do luxury vinyl plank throughout, for all the reasons you mentioned, but Shellie wanted carpet in the bedrooms for comfort. She understands my reasoning and is giving in on that one. Plus, I told her we can do throw rugs if she wants.
I'm happy for you It's starting to look like a house I think grey for the walls and white for the ceiling is a good idea I have those colours in my house The bedrooms are a colour but you have to live with it so you have to do what colour suits you guys To me grey doesn't get boring to live with but beige to me gets tiring after a while . I think the girls may want a different colour in their bedroom You'll be moving in before you know it You surely won't have to go far from one house to another to move the furniture 🇨🇦🦩
Haha, that's the best part. Moving should be a breeze!
Greens are great. Someone gave me 20 gallons of army khaki exterion they didn't like. I got a gallon of ugly straight green at the store, mixed it in and it came out a nive olive green ,bingo!
Wow, sounds like a nice find. Man I’m struggling with picking exterior colors. Definitely don’t have one single decorator bone in my body, lol
going out on a limb here...sky blue ceiling in the 10 ft room with some clouds painted on, gray I think is going out of style soon white is timeless and increases the light in a room
Haha, love the idea of painting a sunny sky with some puffy clouds. We love the Agreeable gray color. Seems like colors go in and out of style every 2 years or so. I can’t keep up. Not worried about it as we’re not selling. I do like the lighter white colors though. I guess the good news is that paint can be repainted.
WOW ,WOW ,WOW !!!!!!!!! ......😱😱😱😜🤪 AMAZIN HOUSE MIKE ....
It's really coming together, isn't it Mario!
YESSSSS It is !!!!!!!!@@MikeKincaid79
Did you know James Hardie Board collaborated with Joanne Gaines/ Magnolia and there are a few nice greens. Other nice earthy neutrals too.
Thanks for the info. I spent a lot of time looking at all those colors last night after seeing your suggestion. I found a few I really like.
im so happy for u 😀
Thanks! We’re excited to see this unfold.
Brilliant. It's looking really good. The taping and jointing looks good. Did the jointer use fibre glass scrim tape or paper.? About two inches wide. As you walked through I even know the smell of the jointing compound 😂. Have you thought about the skirting board and whether wood MDF or plastic. Great project Mr K 👍😁
They joints are paper, which is probably the most common here. Yes, it has a distinct smell to it, which to me just smells like a new house. It was kind of funny when the insulation went in. We all thought it smelled exactly like cotton candy, haha. As far as trim and skirting, it's MDF. The contractor gave us the option for using real wood but the expense went way up. Maybe someday when I'm rich and famous, lol.
Yes those colors are clean. Yes match outside. What about a root cellar under the house. You would love that later in life. You could do so much. But if you can do it on the front end. It is a pain later on. Ask me how I know.
I wish I could have done a full basement but we have high ground water in late winter. If you dig down 3 feet at that time, it fills with water.
Great progress! If you haven’t considered it, remember to rely on the LRV (light reflective value) of the paint color when choosing any color.
If you felt some areas got darker inside with walls and ceilings, this will be key. Example: 85% + LRV and you won’t lose too much light in house. 60% LRV you will lose light. Agreeable grey is LRV 60%. It’s almost beige, not greige. So, I’d really consider how much light comes into the house and if you want to tamper the light or turn it up. I have two shades of cooler toned grey on my walls with white ceilings. The main grey we used is about 87% LRV (LRV is more than Ag Grey by 27%). I’m in coastal Southern California. It’s beautiful, but we did lose a stop or two of light bouncing the room. For the amount of light I like to have inside, I had to rely on white furniture and accessories and even harder to keep up white floor carpets to brighten it back up a bit with reflectivity.
As for green….your spot has so much green in your nature already it’s overkill for interior, no balance. Your window views are your green in every room. Balance it. Not good for the heart chakra to be too heavy on green.
I would consider something with light warm yellows to warm a north facing room. We have a yellow tint to the orange side in our north facing bedrooms, and it’s a slice of happy sun filled heaven compared to the more sophisticated colder tones of the house on the south facing side. Maybe consider for girls room if they haven’t chosen their color! When we want to feel warm and vacation, we go to that room instead of south facing bedroom that technically receive more sunlight bit is light grey. Whatever you choose: enjoy!
Thanks for all the well thought out information. We wanted to make sure light wasn’t a problem so we put I. More than an average amount of lights. We chose to do white ceilings so I’m hoping that gives the bright feel I’m looking for.
@@MikeKincaid79 Wonderful! So exciting for you and your lovely family! Anyway, paint is the easier part of the puzzle to change later on if you desire. Btw, thanks to your methods, my hydrangea propagation is working great!
That’s really great to hear. Glad you’ve been successful.
AWESOME! I was going to say white ceings but geejayem59's comment about 1/4 color is interesting. Can't wait to see what you do!
We decided on Agreeable Gray walls and Extra White ceilings. Nice to finally make a decision! LOL
@@MikeKincaid79 It will be beautiful!
Awesome video and I know that you working hard on your new house, what big !
Hardwood is perfect for you ..yes greens is wonderful colors, best like olive green, bright green like mint or like as teal ?
As decorations on county style when all done ! How long to done?
Good job, Mike as Shelley and your daughters will excited 😊!🏡👍👌🤟😉❤️🎶🎸🇺🇲🦋🐞🌷
It’ll be a few more months but it’s really coming along quickly. Still deciding on exterior color so I appreciate the ideas. It seems a lot of people like green.
@@MikeKincaid79 yes I love green like in 70's vintage patio umbrellas, lights bulbs, vintage umbrella, etc as lovely colors houses in new orleans!😉
Happy Thanksgiving to you, your wife and the two girls. I hope you had a splendid, awesome, fun day. There is just one problem, how can a turkey eat a turkey, considering it might be a close relative (lol, lol, lol).
This turkey ate a ham
Engr, Mike Richard congratulations nice works but sir, family 👪 very small but you build house very big anyway again congratulations 🎊
I know, it seems huge. I agree, it is. It's actually a standard size house in my area and will have a better resale value when we retire someday. If we ever move, we'll be able to make enough money to buy a nice place somewhere else that is smaller.
Agreeable grey is more soft sand beige . No grey I it. . I have I I’m dining room west facing huge windows -15 ft ceiling
Nice! Do you like it? So far we think we’ll be really happy with that color for walls.
@@MikeKincaid79 yes I do like the Colour , nice and soft relaxed tone .
That’s the feeling I got from it when I first saw it next to repose gray. Much more relaxed and warmer.
Hey there Mike. Are you frozen popsicle by now!. I have a very strong feeling that you do not fare well in cold weather. If you get too icy let me know and I will come and thaw you out one way or another, the worst being roasted over a fire with someone turning you over so you can become thawed all over at the same time. How cold has it been there? Has it been cold there for a long time? I remember many years ago people having big, metal barrels out in an orchard so that the fruit being trees will weather the ice, snow and cold better. Maybe you do it with your fruit trees also. We have had temperatures around 44.6 F. and much lower, even into the minus numbers but since I don't have to go out it really doesn't affect me much. I did go to a doctor's appointment two days ago and it was difficult getting my walked through all the slush and muck. Don't forget to use your whipper-snipper on your beard because if that becomes icy you'll have to shave it off while frozen and that could be really unpleasant, but you being the 100%, all mail, total man that you are, it wouldn't bother you for a second (lol, lol)! We are all ready for the holidays soon approaching. The tree is up and decorated, our home is decorated, parcels are wrapped, at least mine are, but not Joyce's as yet. Turkey is the freezer, I make our traditional stuffing that everyone says it is excellent, dessert for Christmas Day will be made closer to the 25th. We usually don't eat cookies so Joyce bought some fresh made ones from a good store and there is an apple pie also in the freezer. How far have you come in building your dream home, Mike? I only have seen up to Section 12, is or will there be a 13, 14 and 15 in the coming month or two? Don't stress yourself out about it or I might have to come there and knock you out so you can get some sleep and rest. Please don't let me have to do that? It will hurt me 100% while you will only feel 10% - being the Hercules, Superman and Tarzan kind of guy that everyone knows you are - ya, even me this distance away (ha, ha, ha, ha). MERRY CHRISTMAS from both of us, Mike, to Shelley (or Shelly) and your two lovely daughters. HAPPY NEW YEAR and all the best in and throughout 2024. Thank you for being such a great, fun, super enjoyable and a laugh a second kind of guy. I treasure our friendship and having you in my life. December 8, 2023.
Yep, it's pretty cold around here. Got the wood stove cooking. Need to spend some time building up my firewood supply this summer. Maybe a woodshed build in the future. Hope all is well with you 2. Merry Christmas!
By trim do you mean skirting, architraving (wooden/plaster) framing? the quotes seem very expensive for four door ways unless he was going to make it look like the sistine chapel. great looking place for your kids to grow up, well done.
Trim in and around all the doors and the skirting. There are 9 interior doors.
@@MikeKincaid79 Ah 9 is a bit more. something to put on the project list. congrats and thanks for making all the vids, learned laods.
Our builder didn't charge for different colors in different rooms. The cost of paint is the same no matter what color.
The cost difference is due to making the ceiling and walls a different color in the same room. He has to spay pain on the ceiling one color, and then tape it off and spray the walls. It's a day of prep (taping off the ceiling corners and walls) so that he can spray the next color.
Hey Mike love you new house do you have a plant room?
Originally, I had a third car garage that was going to have front windows instead of a garage door and be fully insulated. It was going to be a plant/aquarium room, but we had to get rid of it due to expense. I've got some other future ideas to make up for it.
White ceilings for sure. It may be an expense now, but I can see you regretting it, if you did not do it. Looking good though.
We finally made the decision and went with white ceilings. You’re right, I would have regretted not doing it.
HI MIKE MY WATERMELLON GREW BIG VINE 3 TINY WATERMELLONS I GOT TONS MERYGOLDS PLANTS THEY JUST GOT STARING BLOOMING YELLOW AND ORANGE AND GOLDEN ORANGE LOVE DAVID😀🥰😀🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Sounds nice David!
Howdy cowboy Mike. It is either that or me calling you "trout." Okay, so it is going to stay cowboy (lol, lol, lol)! Maybe this time around the turkey in the family will eat the turkey from the oven (ha, ha). I hope your killing and eating your own kind will not upset your delicate stomach! Just have Gaviscon or Pepto Bismol on the table just in case! Merry Christmas to you, Shelley and your two girls. Our wish, hope and pray is that all your family will have a wonderful 2024 from beginning to end. How about this year that you don't climb on the new roof of your house and sing high opera so all the neighbours 10 miles to 20 miles around can hear you. Don't want you to slip and fall hurting yourself. If you do plan on doing it, please give me a little time to get there and I will be your
full bag of air so you will land on something soft (lol, lol, lol, lol).
Too late, lol. I already slipped and fell and hurt myself while working on the roof. But that's pretty normal for me, lol. Turkey is out and ham is in. I know, it's not mainstream, but we decided a few years back that we don't really like turkey anyway and we love ham. Plus, hams are much easier to cook and I love that fatty meat. Merry Christmas to you too!
well hung
LOLOL
Green, gray is such a depressing color, if you want gray look up at the sky!
Crown molding is so expensive.
Hahaha, very true, and that was our biggest worry. That's why we went with Agreeable Gray. It's got a slight beige and a much warmer feel. We went with white ceilings too to offset the gray and make it feel lighter.
@@MikeKincaid79 👍
It's a shame to add texture after all that work sanding the drywall. Interestingly, texture isn't added to houses except the West Coast. Easier to hang wallpaper w/o the texture.
That's interesting. Texture is the standard out here and not many people do wall paper anymore. It can look really nice and luxurious if done right and if there's wainscoting halfway up the walls. Money, money, money! I do remember my mom hanging wallpaper back in the 80's though, lol.
Hi Mike. I had a house built a year ago and I did Agreeable Gray and white ceilings. I love it, you will too. The house build is looking fantastic. So happy for you and your family. Now, go eat a sandwich, you’re looking a bit skinny. 😉💕
Haha, I’ve had to struggle to keep weight on for years. I’ll eat a big pizza just for you, lol. I appreciate you sharing your house colors. Puts me at ease knowing we made the right decision.
WHITE CEILINGS will match every future wall color, whereas, if you color ceilings, will require repainting when you change wall colors. White will also not conflict with colors of furnishings. PLEASE, WHITE CEILINGS!!! Colored ceilings is a trend, trends change.
We decided on white ceilings. The specific Sherwin Williams color is Extra White. I agree 100% about white ceilings making it easier on us if we ever change the walls. Plus, it will feel brighter.
I didn't just drop in to wish you and your family a great Thanksgiving Day. I have written a number of other messages but CZcams must have changed their format because under your photo and video also showed up others who were building their homes and others were growing flowering shrubs in tubs, etc. etc. I had no way of communicating with you. I was able to write a short message on Thanksgiving day or the day before. I cannot remember how many times I tried to write you but the same as described above would come up each and every time. Don't you ever think that I am getting tired of you or just tired of writing, because that is never going to happen. Would it be better for you, Mike if I sent you my gmail address than writing through your group, would it be better for you? Do you have another email address that you might like to share with yours truly? Just want to keep in touch, my buddy, and my great friend. Are you having any snow out there yet because Vancouver, just north of you is really getting dumped on. We are having a wild, wooly, windy and rainy day here. It will be gone tomorrow. Glad we didn't have to go out in it! Do you get your flu shot and your Covid-19 shot? We just received the flu shot but not the Covid. I write to a doctor and he told me not to get the Covid because his grandmother died of it and several of his friends became very ill just after having the shot. Keep healthy or you will have me to deal with and I promise you that you won't like what I will do if you let yourself go wild and crazy and not protect yourself as much as you possible can. (lol, lol). I have another suggestion - if you feel you are coming down with it, Mike, give it to me, which I will gratefully receive, so you can keep on going. Isn't that what a friend does for a friend? Of course it is. I would do that for you without any hesitation, and that's the truth. Guillaume (Bill) November 27, 2023.
Hey Bill, doing fine over here. Just trying to weather the cold weather. Man, it's been freezing lately. Chopping and burning lots of firewood. Nobody is sick around here. I was already coerced into getting the vaccine once, at the threat of losing my job. I won't be doing that again. They can have the job if they want it that bad. Freedom is a fickle thing and we sure did see the extent of that a couple years ago. Still cranking. Nothing new on the house, just dealing with family stuff and kids in sports. Hope all is well with you and you enjoy the holidays.
Drywall 👎
What do you use in your area?
@MikeKincaid79 I used 1x8 t&g. Rainforest and young boys means drywall would be wet and full of holes.
Interesting. That t&g would give it a really nice cabin feel.
