My friend got a house like this for 4O grand on 2 acres & put another 40 grand into it. Her brothers & herself did all the work but when they were done it was beautiful for a single mom & her teen daughter. They lived there 20 years & a few years ago her daughter & hubs bought a home 2 streets away so the grand children can be close it’s so nice. Now we have to get a nice wooden swing set for grand mom.

She got some money to start, then after each thing was done ,the architect would have to be called in to sign off on the last thing they finished. Then she got the next amount of money. This is how she was able to gut the house & redo everything. New roof all the way up & down.
I like Amazon but sometimes nothing beats a good yard sale bargain. When my husband and I bought our home back in 2009, I drug him to yard sales and secondhand stores. We got so many nice things- many of them vintage - and saved so much money after being cleaned out from closing.
We flip homes and only buy from local businesses it is not only good for the small business owner but it is also good for the town/ community as a whole.
Also Facebook market place, thrift stores, roadside shops, places like that have amazing things you'd never expect. Excited to decorate and do some diys at our new house this winter
It makes me sad when I hear that Amazon was the only option. So many local businesses are being eliminated due to this thinking. I understand why people do it, but it still makes me sad.
I try to stay local as much as possible but I’m into finding things that aren’t cookie cutter. I will pay a little extra for something completely different.
I wish more people understood that defaulting to 'Ordering everything off Amazon' is a small repetitive choice you mkake that is SERIOUSLY undermining your family's & community's future. Supporting small local businesses doesn't always cost more -- and even when costs are a fraction more -- small stores or local chains keep jobs and tax revenue in your neighborhood and ensures a community of experts are around to help you when so-called 'customer service help line' is no help I know they don't exist everywhere anymore -- but I encourage everyone to try a little harder to find the smaller individual hardware, lighting & plumbing stores that still exist in most cities.

Thank you for saving this home! If walls could only talk and tell us some memories of the families before you bought it! My husband and I own a farmhouse built in 1865! We found cool things in between the walls! Also some cool things out and around our 15 acres which was once a 400 acre working farm!
I’m glad making a quick buck isn’t your top priority. I’m looking at houses right now and I can’t tell you how many houses I’ve seen that were purchased 1-2 years ago and flipped using the cheapest materials, then marking the house up for 50% more.
Right! And not just using cheapest materials, cutting corners and lying about it too. "We re-wired the entire house," really meant they changed out about 7-10" of wire at all of the receptacles--turns out they just did enough so the inspector wouldn't see it maybe the inspector just pretended not to see what they had done. We found out one Sunday morning when husband was in the kitchen cooking breakfast and I heard a loud pop and male scream at the same time. I went running for the kitchen-he was on the floor-he said the stove had shocked him. I ran over and unplugged it, and we pulled the stove out away from the wall and omg-it looked like a group of children from the daycare rewired the back of our stove. I even saw speaker wire (not even joking.) Oh, the joy of calling the realtor that "flipped" our house....if I could've reached through that phone! We had a brand new stove delivered the next morning. Why didn't they just do the right thing to being with? Ugggh. People. This house one the video looks gorgeous. Hopefully they are some of the honest flippers. If they are-probably prefer to be called something else.

My home growing up was an farm house built in 1926. It fell down around us. I still have dreams where I fixed it up. I now live in . built in 1964. I'm much older. I've remodeled important things like plumbing, kitchen, bathrooms multiple times. But here we are 2023 and everything needs an over haul. Plumbing is holding so far. Theres always so much to do. So it's truly wonderful you did this for a nice family. People don't fet what it takes to remodel. especially if u do it right on a budget. I still have inner debates about the popcorn ceiling and asbestos siding

My sister did a kitchen and bathroom remodel. Knowing her budget, she went to a big box store to purchase her knobs and handles. She came home discouraged by their prices. LOVE the German Schmear brick floor! That is sooo South Carolina Coastal, which is my absolute favorite look by far even though I’m a native Northern Virginian. That look goes great on a fireplace surround too (which we considered doing but opted for slate instead to go w/our black limestone foyer). Your completed interior is beautiful - sit with it and be proud of yourselves, that was a lot of work!!! Best of luck flipping it for a healthy profit.
