- "Just the Way You Are" is a song by Billy Joel from his fifth studio album The Stranger (1977).
It was released in September 1977 as the album's lead single. It became both Joel's first US Top 10 and UK Top 20 single (reaching #3 and #19 respectively), as well as Joel's first gold single in the US. The song also topped the Billboard Easy Listening Chart for the entire month of January 1978.
"Just the Way You Are" garnered two Grammy Awards for Record of the Year and Song of the Year in 1979.
The saxophone solo was played by Phil Woods, a well-known jazz performer and Grammy award winner. Woods was criticized by some purists in the jazz community for playing on a rock session, but in fact he had already played previously on such sessions both for Steely Dan and for Paul Simon. The performance here on a hit record undoubtedly exposed him to a wider audience and introduced his music to rock fans. - Hudba
*STILL 2024 - my favorite all time Billy Joel song (and one that almost did NOT get released... can you believe it?)*
Got nothing but love for this song. My parents played it on their stereo quite often when I was growing up.
A timeless classic. One of the best songs of all time.
My most favorite song from Billy Joel
Loved it back in 77 and will always
Thanks Clay Culver for your post
Incredible song ...brilliant arrangement, vocals and musicianship by a legend.
Magic Song. Beautiful
I could not only hear this over and over, but sing it over and over.
I'm with you James!
You really get to hear the guitar alot clearer in this version rather than the "offical" one
Du lourd très lourd puissant immense du génie ❤ c'est pas la nullité d'aujourd'hui qui pue grave à vomir 👎. Dany 54 ans
Such vivid memories hearing this of winter 77/78. The song still stands the test of time as ( for me) one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. I love the simulated voices in the background, when I first heard the song reminded me a lot of the voices in the music from the movie ''Close Encounters'' which was big at the time
LEGENDARY MAN,LEGENDARY SONG
Grandfather then Father & Now My Self as Third Generation who really Like this song 👍👏
One of the most beautiful and personal love songs ever written. Billy Joel at his finest. From 1977 and all over the radio in early 1978.
A bit of 10cc s IAm not in love on the backing vocals
this song went to #3 on the pop charts in 1978!!!
🎼🎹🎸🎷🎙🎶🎵What will it take till you believe in me, the way that i believe in you? 🥺😍❤💖💗💘
Love these 70s doctors office soft rock tunes!

Fantastic clarity! Brilliant song. Uploaded by a master. 😊
The electric piano is beautifully played! And the subtle backing choir is soft and sweet. A *MASTERPIECE*!! Thank you, Mr. Culver!
The choir part was done the same way as 10cc's I'm Not In Love, which Billy was quite fond of. The choir part was a series of vocal overdubs. 10cc did about 426 layers to get that chamber music vocal sound. Three members of the band sang a series of notes which were layered a multitude of times.
@@Venti470 - Fantastic info! Thanks a lot, 1st Wave. And greetings from Rio!

Dans la version de Diana Krall elle a embauché Michael Brecker au saxophone à la place de Phil Woods !
