    Alsobrooks is winning the primary by double digits when Trone (the more conservative Democrat) was shown to be in a stastical dead heat with her most of the campaign. It used to be the Democrat/more progressive candidate were always underperforming the polls. Since 2022 though it's flipped and they've been overperforming in almost all the elections.

      As a Marylander, let me dissuade you of your confidence in Alsobrooks taking that Senate election. Hogan was, unfortunately, an incredibly popular Governor - even among many Democrats. And while I appreciated that he refused to become Trump's lackey in MD, he won't have the same independent streak were he to get into the Senate. And many Marylanders don't understand that. Alsobrooks is attempting a MAJOR jump from county executive to Senator, while attempting to defeat the most well-known, and one of the most well-liked MD politicians of the past two decades. If we Democrats don't come out in major numbers this election, and throw all of our support behind a candidate in Alsobrooks (who is relatively unknown in MD outside of Prince George's County), we'll be dealing with a critical blow in our attempt to keep Republicans from gaining control of both houses. Democrats in MD and Congress are going to have to put a lot of money into this race and make a lot of appearances on behalf of Angela Alsobrooks if we are going to ensure a Democratic victory. This is by no means a gimme.

    Polls are worthless if still done by landline phone calls. Most anyone under 40, or who lives in suburbia or an urban area doesn't have a land line anymore, and worse, will not answer calls they don't recognize the ID of. Those demographics have more D than R voters historically. The people with landlines, who answer every call and are willing to waste 30 minutes with a pollster are older, are more prone to believe in conspiracy theories (which is why they have a landline...) and demographically are more R than D.
    EVERY mid-cycle election since 2020 has been pro-D and the D candidates have outdone the polling by a wide margin. Hopefully that will hold true in November.

      @Drawkcabi Před 16 dny +2

      I agree. The polls had Hogan's opponent (was it Brown?) ahead of Hogan during most of the campaign, at times he was up by double digits. I think that in 2014, the Democrats voter base was a bit more apathetic to voting during midterms. It wasn't until the Trump era that the Dems were stoked into taking midterms more seriously. Yes, Hogan soundly won reelection in 2018, but that was after 4 years of proving himself to be a good governor and he had the incumbent advantage. If he was running for his first term in 2018, I don't think he would have won.
      I know in 2014 I was shocked when Hogan won. I also skipped voting in the 2014 midterms I'm ashamed to say. That was the last time I skipped voting in the midterms.
