Holy crap I forgot about it!
Well if we consider a continuation of bravely default the name makes sense.
Its also not really a stretch second was only 2 years after the first, Nearly every character returned and one the biggest mysteries in the game, the great plague, was explored in great detail.

I'm assuming this is like how Final Fantasy games are Numbered. How each number is its own separate universe.

yep! easy one is you must add "I" to transform the title as Bravely Default III (the third) or maybe is more complex :)
This might be a little too out there for square but they could do a real mind blower by tilting the II and making a V. Signifying theres more to this (at least 3 games worth) story than we know.

I need to clarify the naming scheme because it took me awhile for this one.
Bravely Second is a direct sequel to Bravely Default, taking place two years later in the story. Bravely Second's story concludes completely, but at the end they leave it open as a potential continuation because the lead director did not know if he wanted to do a continuation (would have been like 10 or 20 or longer years from Bravely Second) or make an entirely new journey...
So Bravely Default II (2) is a completely separate story, journey, and characters to the first two games just like how Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy II (2) have absolutely no relationship between each other and share nothing in terms of story, characters, etc. (even the gameplay is completely different). But for Bravely Default II (2) it will share the same type of gameplay as the first two games, hopefully at minimum all of the improvements that Bravely Second introduced to the gameplay, while being a brand new journey, characters, world, story, etc. so anyone who has not played the first two games can play Bravely Default II (2) and is not missing out on anything (even though Bravely Second did a fantastic job for being a standalone direct sequel, but I still recommend playing Bravely Default first to get the many references sprinkled throughout Bravely Second's writing [which has no impact on the main part of the story, just nods thrown into a lot of the side quests]).
This is still a continuation of the story unlike what you think.
The thing is, due to the events at the end (the TRUE end) of BD, paralell world travel is still a possibility.

theonlyMaria fr tho bravely defaults got some of my favorite themes of all time, ESPECIALLY those battle themes. I know a lot of people were disappointed with the game awards but seeing this really put me in a good mood

Chain of Memories is pretty solid and actually has literal and thematic meaning in the story. Coded is also fine, but kind of boring. The rest are wacko nonsense.

It is Final Fantasy naming scheme - Default and Second are direct sequels to each other, Bravely Default II (2) is completely standalone and only shares the same gameplay mechanics and customization of classes - world, story, journey, characters, etc. are all new here. It took me awhile to figure out why it was Bravely Default II and not Bravely Third, it is because it is an entirely new adventure of the series and not a continuation (Bravely Second did conclude the story fully, just had a potential continuation at the very, very end).
With that said, they might still have references to characters like Edea and Tiz, but only as references if so.
already miss Agnes, Edea Tiz, Ringabell, Yew and Magnolia .....and in typing this comment I now know how much I want a Bravely game with a party of all 6 of them playable at the same time

i think it will contradict the "4 Warrios of Light" tradition in terms of gameplay or rather, battle system which they've also applied to the bravely default series that originaly derives from the traditional FF games.

It was already known that a new bravely default game was in development. They just casually mentioned it at one point. I for one was ready, just didin't know when it was going to drop.

Bravely Default is my favorite 3DS game, and I enjoyed Bravely Second.
So I'm really excited for a seperate new entry with a new cast.
I enjoyed the characters and story a lot but playing it twice because plot was the only weird thing

This isn't a sequel to Bravely Default, it's another entry in the franchise, much like FF8 isn't a sequel to FF7.

Oh man I am SO pumped for this! I just finished Bravely Second earlier this year, it truly gave me what I wanted as a story continuation and improvements on the gameplay. As soon as I beat it(and saw the teaser at the end)I started searching for info on the next game, so seeing this trailer now makes me very happy.
I hope the original cast is in the game even if they're not playable. Maybe as Asterisk holders?

@Byleth Eisner Been replaying everything. Honestly, if not for the slower movement and much shorter story, it and Second would be tied imo. Both are flawed in many ways, just Octopath much moreso. Default is still what the majority sees as the best, and I can’t help but agree.
I've been using ringabels theme in my D&D campaign for so long, and that's basically all I know this series for- But the prospect of getting an updated version of some sort has me extremely hyped...
It's very likely we won't even see Ringabel in this game, but with Revo here you're surely gonna get some great music for DnD

I beg to differ. Here’s why.
In the official art books for both Default and Second, the series is referred to as Bravely Default | the underline | For The Sequel. In there, the For The Sequel part is replaced with the subtext of each game. Likewise with both Default and Second, the subtext since their announcement in Japan has always been included, so why would that pattern break here?
On top of this, they choose a roman numeral 2 when Asanone are known for messing with the subtext halfway through each game. Default’s removed the ‘F’s’ in Flying Fairy to reveal the truth why Second added S and P to End Layer to make it Send Player, with the SP being used up in one of the craziest 4th wall breaks I’ve ever seen. To top it off, Second ended on a tease with Ringabel, the Dimensional Bureau which somehow got Ringabel to the main world again, and the Sword of the Brave/Bravely Sword. The latter in Second’s art book is specifically referenced to have a significant tie to the roman numeral 3 that’s imprinted on its front.
Now if you’re saying none of this matters because whole new world/story, you need to realize the Dimensional Bureau exists, and there’s confirmed to be near infinite Luxandarc’s, all varying in their differences if only slightly. However slight changes from one point alone is enough for drastic change later down the line.
This is just some of the many reasons why I think this isn’t Final Fantasy naming in the general sense.

I think this is supposed to be an alternate version of Bravely Default, like an alternate universe or a side story. Whatever it is, I'm just glad the series is alive
