I always like how there’s the “Adventure is fun!” group and the “Life is cruel,” gang all harmoniously traveling together.
Throné: “The stain of blood reeks my hands…”
Osvald: “The man who took everything from me…I won’t rest until he pays for his crimes!”
Agnea: “Wow that’s sad…Can I offer a dance in these trying times?”
Partitio: Y’all want some anti-depressants to help me combat poverty.
Ochette: "how can you be sad when i found all the delicious m e a t"
That part is accurate to life
Temenos: "I don't trust any of you."
So far it looks like they listened to the criticism. The stories are apparently more connected and I hope we will see lots of genuinely interesting and relevant conversations between the travellers, unlike what they did in the first game with only the banter sections.
Honestly, the stories still look like they don't intertwine. They might just do what the original did and have the traveler's stories be intertwined in the background. For example, the black-haired woman was the leader of the Obsidians, the villainous organization that consisted of the men with the crow tattoos, but also the thief, Esmeralda. That's just a simple example that discreetly interweaves the stories of Primrose and Tressa.
@@JaxonElzinga Not quite sure how you come to the conclusion that they don't intertwine based on this trailer? They literally say "intertwining stories" and one character says another character's name. Unless I'm forgetting, that is already more direct interaction than we got in all of the first one outside of those scenes that you could watch which existed outside of actual gameplay.
Now will it be an amount that people think is acceptable or will this just be a bait? Who knows. But saying that they don't look like they intertwine is contrary to what we are told in this trailer.
@@cthomas025 because for both the first game and triangle strategy, they lauded themselves about the game's story features which was kiiiindaaa there but not at the level they advertised it to be.
@@EurrikkeEdward That’s fair, but the fact that they’re even acknowledging the other characters vocally like that is a rather big deal, at least in my opinion. Octopath 1 is written like everyone is solo when they’re… just not, so even just having characters comment on things while being overall bystanders would be a MASSIVE improvement.
@@cthomas025 probably there are some few quests that need 2-3 characters to do together.
The first Oxtopath is so good and I can't wait for this. Hoping the characters interact more with eachother this time
Let's hope RT
Pray for more character interaction lol. I love your content btw keep it up.
they literally highlighted that so yea i cant wait!
RT is an Octopath enjoyer? Love you even more now mate
English major
Hexadecimalpath Traveler
OMG this had me laughing out loud pretty hard
Bruh lol
Hexadecimal from reboot needs an rpg lol
Lmao my roommate made the same joke when the trailer went live too
That rendition of the opening song at the start is so entrancing... Then you realise WAIT OCTOPATH IS GETTING A SEQUEL WITH EVEN BETTER STORY AND POSSIBLY EVEN BETTER MUSIC. What a dream come true I can't believe this is happening...
EXACTLY!
Is it even possible to top the soundtrack from the first game?
That vocalization at the beginning, knew it was familiar until it hit me before the reveal
@@andrewjer3527 Guess we'll see next Feb
better then that poor excuse of a mobile game.
Finally a sequel, and it seems set in an era far past our original 8, maybe the plotting of the mysterious lady has not yet entirely faded...
I'm not ready for Galdera's brother, Baldera. You can tell why he's mad through his name this time
No one is more mad than their sister, Maldera.
@@darkpyro786 lmao
Agree at least they added the samurai that's new
@@grimreaper5864 I mean it's still "warrior", but yeah
This right here was the biggest surprise of the entire Direct! I'm seriously SO EXCITED to jump back into this world. I already know the soundtrack is going to slap!
We truly are in a new golden age for classic styled JRPG's. We get the storytelling and design of the 90's with the graphics and QoL of today. Amazing!
It's funny, I had been thinking about some truly great titles on the Super Nintendo like the Final Fantasy games (especially 6), Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, Earthbound - all of it. I was in single digits when a number of those games were out. Playing Super Mario RPG when I came out was such an incredible and different experience. Honestly, those games literally played a part in sculpting who I became, the games I like, even how I feel about sacrifice and ideals. It sounds kind of silly but they really were influential. The music on those games alone was enough to shape some of my music tastes. Nobuo Uematsu, the composer for many of the Final Fantasy games is just a brilliant artist. I have a super limited edition double LP picture vinyl set from Final Fantasy 8 signed by the master himself. I always wanted to meet him and several years ago, I was fortunate enough to do so and tell him face to face how much his music meant to me. You really never know how much in your life can be influenced by certain events, experiences, and relationships. Life is a wild ride bud 👌✌👍
@@YukonJack I feel much the same way. Those games are entwined with my early childhood and helped developed some of my thoughts, values, and likes. I'm glad I can relive a part of my childhood playing through these new games. Just a brief return to the sense of wonder, travel and adventure all too lacking in adult life.
you get the latter, not the former.. these games look pretty but feel lifeless, soulless, and formulaic. the last octopath did at least.
@@johnwayne4911true
@@johnwayne4911 Formulaic I will certainly give you, but that game was not soulless at all. What it lacked was a lot of emotional investment from the characters and in the characters. Both Prim and Olberic had stories that should have resulted in some real intense moments, but even it never really happened that way. You can tell a lot of love went into that first game though. The music and art were expressive and full of soul. I especially love the menacing boss artwork. I think the writing was solid enough, and you could tell by the way they wrote the sidequests that they definitely understand the human condition. They just need to stop writing their game like a moldy story from the 1500s and it will make their characters come alive.
It's been 4 years of waiting and the serene buildup with those vocals on the trailer music brought some tears to my eyes, I genuinely haven't been this excited for a new game sequel in so long, thank you Octopath!!!
I don't know why I thought it came out in 2019 and was gonna correct you, but it has been 4 years already! Corona messed up my reference to time....
The first one came out 5 jobs ago for me! Haha time flies
I honestly wasn't expecting a sequel at all, but this looks so good and I'm so excited to play it! I'm probably going to get this one for sure, unless something really bad comes out about it.
Also really seeing some live a live similarities here.
Good luck finding anything bad about it
They confirmed a sequel a while ago I’m pretty sure
Why would you not buy it based on a review?
"I honestly wasn't expecting a sequel at all" so your face was like your profile pic when this showed
Why wouldnt you expect? It pioneeref the HD-2D and sold successfully
This was the greatest surprise I never could've predicted from the Nintendo Direct. What an absolute 💎.
Meatball Mitch
You really can’t say that when they announced Pikmin 4
@@theepicest7598 was expecting pikmin though so octo was that for me.
Tales of Symphonia remaster was that for me. That was out of nowhere.
It's funny how certain "insider sources" were that we'd be getting Zelda remasters. I wouldn't be surprised if they actually do exist though, considering the Fire Emblem leaks turned out to be true. But there were too many exciting surprises for me to be disappointed (the aforementioned Fire Emblem, this, Tales of Symphonia remaster, Harvest Moon remake, etc.)
If this game can somehow keep the freedom to go anywhere from the first game while simultaneously linking the stories more it will literally be the pinnacle of the JRPG genre
These developers have quickly become some of my favorite game devs of all time. Even with its flaws, I absolutely loved Octopath Traveler. And then Triangle Strategy was basically a masterpiece. The storytelling, world building, characters, art, and music were all amazing. Really looking forward to this more than anything else shown.
I abaolutely loved OT, but haven't bought Triangle Strategy. Having a different music composer threw me off a bit. Now Persona 5 on the switch is around the corner. Would you recommend I bought TS? I'm trying to use my money wisely haha
@@jdg1251 depends on what you liked about octopath I'd say. It is really story focused, so much that in the first 2 hours you only battle once, Imo writing could've been better, but the story is really fun, felt like I was playing a dnd game where I could chose what to and who to party with. Although P5 might be the better game
Triangle strategy is a masterpiece indeed. I played it 4 times back to back covering every path and getting every ending
Triangle Strategy really has an excellent storyline. It is a mature game.
Octopath Traveler and Triangle Strategy are both masterpieces.
Octopath is one of my favorite games for the Switch, and I can’t wait to see what the sequel will bring.
Same.
I played a bit of the first game on game pass on my Xbox series X this looks good hopefully it’s on game pass lol
Indeed. Her father is in this one, too
I may cry, I didn't expect this at all. One of my fav games is getting a sequel!!!! Hype af
Wait, you didn't expect it? Square straight up said a couple years ago there were going to be two more games. One would be a mobile prequel, and a console sequel.
@@shawnbalboni4927 things can change between that sort of time period tho, I keep myself away from most game news in general so unsure if the news even got leaked for today. But the last thing I expected to see on the direct was an Octopath sequel
Can I ask what makes it one of your favourite games and what some of your others are? I liked Octopath and the music and graphics were great, and the gameplay was pretty fun most of the time, but for me anyway it doesn't get anywhere near "favourite". For me the stories were too seperate and didn't come together in the way I imagined.
@@Tom-101 as you say the graphics and the music were pretty good, the music in particular was a highlight for me. I thought each individual story was pretty engaging. In terms of gameplay it was a very different jrpg to what I'd played before, the customisation potential with different combinations of classes, this is something I found very interesting with approaches to the Galdera fight. While the sequel hints the stories may intertwine more, I kinda liked that they didn't until the end with this one, it was 8 people on different journeys who finished them on the same path, the tavern chats I always thought were a pretty cool element to add to that. Just a game that stuck with me a load
IM CRYING RIGHT NOW
I still remember how much fun and joy i had when i played trough the first Octopath Traveler, i recall how well it helped me properly mourn the loss of my grandmother who passed away just a few months before its release, it helped me trough some of the hardest times of my life and i can't be more grateful for it. I can't wait for more information about this very anticipated sequel!
I am so excited to cover this! I LOVED the first game and I can't wait to enjoy the story and combat again :)
Watched this twice. Literal goosebumps both times. Octopath Traveler is HIGHLY underrated. First game was master class. Only the story binding left anything to be desired, and they're addressing that in the very first trailer. Greatest gaming soundtrack of all time.
I hope the character stories intertwine in a more meaningful way this time around, but I'm still VERY excited about this!!!
Yeah. Some kind of overarching story that's not just a missable post game side quest
I'm sure they did after all of the complaining. I didn't mind it much, but I get it.
They do a great job with the story in the gacha game so I'm sure they'll be capable of writing something amazing.
You can see it right here: 1:28
Yeah that was my main problem with the game. If they fix it this time I'm gonna try it for sure
Tears were whelling up when the intro theme picked up. I can't wait for the sequel to my favorite game.
Hearing the main theme kick in got me super emotional out of nowhere, can't wait for this one!
I bought Octopath Traveler more or less by chance and it has been one of my favorite games ever since and i am so thrilled to see a sequel and i must say, it looks so damn good. i am already in love.
YES!!!! I have been waiting AGES for a direct sequel and finally my wish came true! This is one of the best jrpg games i have ever played. I wish it dropped this year though smh. I cant wait to get lost into another new world of stories and music!
I especially love how while the jobs are the same, the personality and stories of each character seem wildly different to their counterparts. I think the difference between Primrose and Agnea is the clearest example of this. I'm excited to see another story centred around the jobs under a massively different perspective.
I think I'm gonna pick Temenos or Castti as my protag, if I pick the latter I'd have picked the C protag both times.
I wonder if the OG characters will appear at some point, I'd love to see them again!
Absolutely going to play this I love octopath with a passion the art style is unique and stunning everything is amazing about it
This looks like a perfect sequel. So much hype
This looks absolutely stunning. I LOVE this artstyle.
It’s fresh and new, but nostalgic at the same time.
If the stories meet together to add to the story I'm all in. That was my biggest issue in the first game. It was really frustrating to have a full team of 4 and have the one person just ignore their other 3 teammates.
For real.
Alfyn and Therion come to mind, since Alfyn was struggling after helping a criminal and finding out he was a terrible person. But helping Therion, another criminal, is completely fine, and they don't even talk about it.
It would have been cool to get a scene, where they talk about it, and Alfyn might mistrust Therion, or something like that.
It doesn't even have to have any bigger impact on the story, just having them interact would be nice.
The first Octopath Traveler was a work of art. Octopath Traveler II looks like it will be a masterpiece!! Absolutely cannot wait to play it!!!
Indeed.
Oh this is amazing! Day and night cycles too! ❤️ Hopefully each of their stories can be a little more connected!
Super happy about this, always thought the franchise was a one and done!
Fun Fact! Just like the Previous Game, all the first letters of their names form OCTOPATH.
O: ochette /Olberic
C Castti / Cyrus
T Temenos / Therion
O Osvald / Ophilia
P Partitio / Primrose
A Agnea / Alfyn
T Throné / Tresa
H Hikari / Hannit
How frigging convenient I bought the first Octopath Traveller this year
RIP
SAME! And Live A Live too!
GOTY 2023!
I loved the first one! So stoked to hear about this!
In the first octopath game the names of the characters spelled the name,
in this game in order the name should be HAPOTTOC witch is an acronym of octopath,
you got us this time square enix!
Super excited about this, I love the style of the octopath traveler series. The setting, the characters, the story! I can't wait!
Hopefully the characters will be able to interact with each other & feel more alive this go around.
The first one made them feel like they only mattered for their personal story, not even recognizing each others' existence.
I love the new Warrior, Merchant, Scholar and Cleric. They’re all so cool
The beginning notes with the vocals got me so hyped!!! Hoping the stories are more interconnected!! Let's go!!!!
At 1:27 now finally the characters' story intertwines with each other. Partitio and maybe Osvald? Throné and Temenos, Osvald and Throné, Agnea and Hikari.
So one character can interact with more than one character it seems, can't wait!
Holy cow! It looks like it even fixes one of my issues with the first game: lack of interaction between the characters!
This is going to be _instantly_ on my wife and I's wishlist.
The fact that I'm alive to experience a game that I never thought would receive a sequel. Gets a sequel.
This is incredible.
Count me in
Playing through Octopath 1 now so this was perfect timing
Dunkey's favorite game finally getting a sequel!
lmao
This game looks gorgeous super excited and a few days before my birthday too! I just hope the stories intertwine this time instead of just having it all tie together in an optional endgame dungeon.
I could print screen each frame of this trailer, frame it and put it in an art gallery.
This looks drop dead gorgeous.
I am beyond excited for this octopath traveler was one of my favorite games
Hope the main characters actually have meaningful intertwining stories this time.
They are, its in the Post Game Stuff
@@regobing5435 doesn't count
@@alrest8060 And why doesnt it count? Its part of the game (actually a major Part of the game). Many Games have a good Post Game, to ignore that would be just wrong
@@regobing5435 It wasn't part of the main story, it was a side quest you could miss, imagine waiting 60 or so hours to finish the game and finally have their stories connect, but only if you do that quest
@@alrest8060 Well its not "only" a sidequest, probably a major part of the game. And just because it makes sense in retrospective after you do that quest doesnt mean that it doesnt count. Its just required to put a bit more effort into it.
I mean its still there, just not a must have
I only recently wrapped up all the chapter 4s and completing all side quests before the final dungeon.
This is a most welcomed surprise.
I first fell in love to octopath thanks to tressa. and now it's partitio that's got me. the merchant class never dissapoints! can't wait for the game's release!!!
this is about to break some serious records. AND THEY MANAGED TO MAKE THE SOUNDTRACK EVEN BETTER
HOWWWWWWW
Best part of the direct for me. Zelda would've taken it if there was more info revealed but I definitely need this game on launch day! Time to farm up CotC in the mean time.
When those vocals hit those notes...I almost cried and died at the same time.
Currently playing and planning to beat the first one proper~
Fun fact, first letter of every traveler put together in a certain order spells something.
Cyrus, Alfyn, Tressa, Primrose, H'aanit, Ophilia, Therion, Olberic
CAT PHOTO.
Now, Let's look at the new travelers.
Castti, Agnea, Throné, Partitio, Hikari, Osvald, Temenos, Ochette
CAT PHOTO!
I've been dreaming for a sequel for so long and now it's finally coming true! 😆
I was hoping for different new classes and abilities though, but hey new stories and other stuff is still fine by me😌.
Jesus this game looks good. Literal jaw drop when I saw this. You can tell they added so much more movement in battle and now the stories of the characters intertwine. That was an issue for a lot of people in the first one but I was good with the story. I see nothing but improvements. I cannot wait.
Their name’s still spell out octopath. I love that.
0:48 they put
They put Caleb Widowgast in Octopath Traveler 2
Omg the OST is going to be amazing again isn't it?! I loved the original and literally can't wait for this
They really made the game look even more beautiful than the last!
Wow this is one of my favorite games and now it’s getting a sequel!!!
Just played it earlier this year. Hyped for the sequel
I loved the first game so much! It is in my top 3 of all turn-based RPGs of all time!
For me this announcement is just as big as botw 2. 2023 is gonna be a great year for gaming
did the female vocal humming the octopath traveler theme give anyone else goosebumps? SHEESH.
it made me cry
The first game really left an impact on me, so I hope this is just as good or better! Maybe if we got a little info on some unexplained things in the previous game would be a bonus, but it seems to be a lot further in the future so who knows
I fear no man...
But boat encounters....
It scares me...
BEST GAME OF THE YEAR ALREADY
I saw this and my heart jumped out of my chest. I loved the first game so much I wish i could play it for the first time all over again. I'm so excited for this game to come out I feel like a kid in the 90s again
Add a save point and allow fast travel at that "special location" this time please!
Nintendo is killing it with this direct!!! FE Engage and now OT 2???!!! And both come out in a few months. I can't even contain my hype!!!
The music, the art, the character interactions!
Oh no…my wallet!
Just finished the 1st game recently. Because I want more, I bought Triangle Strategy since they have the same font. Been having a lot of fun and I am glad I won't be waiting that long for another Octopath story.
Never have I ever wanted to purchase a switch more in my life just to play this game day one.
This is probably the best thing I seen at the direct. And I’m a huuuuge Zelda fan. So happy man

C (astti)
T (emenos)
O (chette)
P (artito)
A (gnea)
T (hrone)

Keeping traditions alive! ((((((:
would always predict this before nintendo directs as a joke cause i thought it would never happen and now it finally did!! super excited for this, february can't come soon enough for me
god i need a full version of that intro so bad
So happy we getting a sequel! I even tweeted about a sequel yesterday and we got the announcement! First game is one of my favorite games!
I'm so damm happy man. I thought the sequel would take longer, but damm.
Gameplay was a blast in the first one, just hope they improve the storylines and interactions between characters.
I'm playing OT at the moment, everything is great from graphics to music to combat, the only flaw is the lack of interactions between characters, so I'm very excited to hear they fix this problem in OT 2.
It would be so nice to have the previous story and travelers mentioned somehow!
OMFG YEEEEEEEESSSSSSS ❤❤❤😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Shutup and take my money!
That soundtrack is in the fast lane for classic status.
Rest In Peace Champions of the Continent on February 24th, 2023
I honestly feel like the newer Pokémon games would be much better if they had this kind of artstyle.
It plays to the older fans nostalgia, but it also feels new…..and to be quite honest this looks way better than the 3D style.
Agena said just like mama, PLEASE tell me her mom is primrose and her dad is possibly Alfyn
Mom looks blonde tho
@@AoiFlame02 🤦♂I didnt even notice, all my hopes and dreams are crushed. lol
This is absolutely gorgeous. I love how they tied the 3D & 2D together, it's very aesthetically pleasing to the eyes
Winner of the direct for me. They did say it was in the works a while ago, but I didn't expect it to look this good!
I hope they do a much better job properly intertwining the stories. The story cohesion was lacking in the first game.
Can't wait for Dunkey to lie and misrepresent this game, making it seem worse than it actually is like he did for the first one.
I just started playing the first game today (well yesterday). It's been 10 hours. I love it so much! The story, the MUSIC! Bittersweet to just be finding out about it but better late than never
MY HYPE IS UNBENDING!
Finally, art is back
AYOOOO!! I totally thought this would eventually happen, but not this soon!! I"M SO HYPE!!
This is amazing! Octopath is my favorite Switch game and I haven't even finished it yet, I'm so excited to see what they do with this one!
Still haven't played the first one, but the soundtrack is absolutely incredible. Can't wait to hear the music from this one.
Never thought we’d get a sequel!! I’m so excited!! I loved octopath and so happy I can experience it again!!
