  • If the resetting the computer trick doesn’t fix the rear hatch window going up/down try this.
    Steps:
    -remove pull strap(10mm)
-remove trim pieces from beside hatch window
-remove rear hatch main trim panel (pop bottom and sides out then slide up)
-disconnect 2 plugs from rear computer and single plastic plug
-remove black main panel and gray passenger side panel(10mm)
-you can try to lube the gears without removing the motor now if you’d like
-apply lube to all gears and all slides for the lifting arms (2 on each side)
-if you remove the motor, unplug it and access 3 bolts from the back side with a thin wrench and t45 bit (window must be up)
-apply lube to all moving and friction points
-work the action by manually moving the window up and down
-plug all connections back together and test window (you may need to reset computer by Turing key to on and then pressing and holding “up” rear window button for 10-15 sec)
-put it all back together in reverse order of how it came apart.
    Thanks for watching!
    -Sam

after a tint install my back window now doesn't go down. Hoping a wire harness is just unplugged.

This is what was wrong with mine I tried the break trick with no luck but did notice how sticky the gears were.

Yes, once I freed the motor up it’s worked like a champ since.

My window went down and won’t come back up, it tries to but it’ll only come up about two inches and then it’ll go back down

It’s binding somewhere in the track, if the window moves at all, the motor is free and the motors not binding because it would trip the switch and have to be reset each time. It maybe something like debris or part of the rubber gasket is out of line. If the gaskets where the window slides are clear, you’ll need to pull the trim panel off to see where it’s blocked. Best of luck

This is going on with me too. Have a 2016 4Runner. The dealership wanted over $2,000 to replace the regulator and motor. That's ridiculous. Im going to grease it up and get it. Hopefully I'll start moving freely afterwards.
