    It’s absolutely ASHAMED they stopped making this quality of vehicle!! Look at all the work and details that were just in the tailgate window!! Unreal at the quality back then!!!!👆👆👍👍

    Compliments to the proud owner of such a nice truck. I have a 2nd gen JDM Hilux surf as well that I store in winter so it will not rust out from road salt. Toyota 4x4trucks from the 80's and up to early 2000 are the most capable ,reliable off road daily drivers ever made.

    Love this video...took mine apart today and 2 out of the 3 bolts holding the motor were completely loose..a few good turns and back in business...it was getting old pulling the wiper to allow it to roll down...01 sr5 276k miles...purrs like a kitten

    Those cheap rear strapped bike racks do this. The load bounces and hammers the sheet metal inward.

  • @brentatkinschryssilvestre8012

    I'm in Canada. I have the same white limited but a'98 with 395, 500 kms. I have done many tailgate widow repairs.
    After three 4runners I can do it in my sleep. I keep a spare set of glass and guts for the tailgate in my parts bin.
    It is the Achilles heel after the LBJ's on these gen3 trucks.

    A few years ago I thought my 98 4runner back window finally stopped working but it was just that the windshield wiper didn't seat fully into its bracket. manually put it back into place and the window has worked again thank god. Another time it was rolling up really slowly and i thought maybe the motor was getting worn out, but i just sprayed some silicone lube down the rubber tracks on the window sides and its back to normal again.

    Very similar thing happened to me the window was hitting the wiper. I swapped out the whole hatch from a junkyard one but the window wouldn't work. Noticed that the wires from the top that run to the front were frayed or broken so spliced them back together and works fine. Note, if you have a 96-98 you have to stay with those years because the wires are different on the 99-02.

    What kind of grease to lubricate the guides and scissor? I was hoping to see that part... I'm looking to lubricate mine up. It works but is just a little noisy. Thank you!

    Verry good content thanks. Do you have any experience with a Toyota Sequoia sunroof being suck? I took to motor out and it works but the cable mechanism looks a bit rusty and all it does when I try to open is click without any movement.

    Great video. However, I'm trying to find some answers :-) I have a 1995 from Australia... My tailgate folds down (make it easier to work on, I think)... Is it possible for the glass window to come away from the mechansim? Also, did you use a type of grease on the glass tracks?

  • @wanman4065
    @wanman4065 Před 3 měsíci

    My window goes up and pops out and goes back down. It feels like it’s off the track. Are there clips that hold the rear glass in? Or is there a tracking mechanism that I cannot see? I haven’t taken it apart yet so hoping you can help or at least steer me to the right direction. Motor itself works fine.

    what did you use to lube the plastic parts and the glass channel?

    • @LAactor
      @LAactor Před 2 lety

      Use a SILICONE based lubricant when in contact with #epdm style rubbers or else swelling can occur. I personally like Teflon impregnated silicone spray but that's optional and up to you as long as you can find silicone lube. As for the "plastic parts" you mentioned, I don't know what other than the rubber channel seal there is to lubricate but if it's in the channel use the same. For the METAL teeth in the scissor gear mechanism the silicone spray is too loose and runny. I prefer to use white lithium grease on the metal because it's tacky and sticks better. Don't go crazy with white lithium grease. If in spray form, point and aim exactly where you want it and close enough or else it can get everywhere.

      my 2000 has a orange box. I think it's the brains of the tailgate so you can't run the wiper when window is down and stuff like that.

    The new Sequoia lost its roll down tailgate window and the latest LX lost its split tailgate. It seems the future of the 4Runner roll down window is at risk so fans might want stock up on 4Runners now.
