  • You may remember the Honda Passport, the Isuzu-based 5-passenger SUV that Honda sold in the 1990s. It was actually their first SUV, until their own CR-V arrived for ‘97. But when Honda’s Isuzu partnership went away, so did the Passport. Well, the Passport is back; and Honda didn’t need any help this time around.

    Absolute winner for Honda. Naturally aspirated superb V6, and good dimensions. Great competitor to Jeep Grand Cherokee which is the only other solid two row SUV in the market (Murano has a CUV, Edge is front wheel drive, Chevy's Blazer is a Mexican built abomination, and Toyota has no competitor unless you consider dinosaur era 4-Runner one, but it rides like a Ox-cart)

    • @j.r.b.5464
      @j.r.b.5464 Před 4 lety

      This Passport isn't remotely akin to a Jeep Grand Cherokee. It doesn't have proper 4WD. It doesn't even have real AWD. It has low profile tires at every trim level - exactly what you don't want in an SUV that you use for anything other than "minivan" duties. In fact, the Pilot and Pssport are really just modified minivans. FWD monocoque platform, flimsy indy suspensions all around. It's a mommy wagon plain and simple. The addition of black cladding means it also appeals to cross-dressing daddys.
      The Jeep Grand Cherokee is a RWD platfform with true 4WD and a two speed transfer case. You can equip the Grand Cherokee for utility duty. You can't equip a Passport for anything but the mall parking lot. If you go offroading anywhere that actually constitutes offroading, you will never see a Passport, Pilot, Highlander or any other minivan adaptation. Why? Because they are flimsy and delicate and can't handle true rough terrain.
      It's a total poseur vehicle for guys who haven't yet gotten in touch with their inner minivan fan.

      @MrDjslav5 Před 4 lety +5

      @@j.r.b.5464 Wow you sound like you live an exciting lifestyle. Equipping for utility duty and everything, impressive. I don't really need all that. I do like my car to handle construction sites, and snow storms. My passport is pretty capable with zero "equipping for duty". I just drive toward trouble and inevitably start cracking up because this car is so fun to drive off of the pavement. No locking of differentials. Much less of a true off-road utility vehicle for sure. I am not crossing the Sierras on the regular, but if I had a chance to overland with my Elite I'd be more than confident (with a wheel replacement as you pointed out, of course ; ). Also, I don't see many passports anywhere, do you?

      Ummm what’s solid about the Jeep GC?? It’s an unreliable POS.
      You act like I live at Glacier National Park or something. All I need my future Elite for is to handle a snowstorm if I’m on the east coast or a nice fun day at the beach. This truck is a beast.

I’m also surprised that Honda even put a German ZF transmission in their vehicles. They are junk.
