I have a 2020 Passport with the Touring package and AWD. We have taken from Virginia to Florida twice since we've owned it and its a great ride for 2-3 adults and a child. I love this vehicle but there are a couple of issues I'm still trying to get over after 2 years and 31,000 miles of ownership. I agree about the adaptive cruise control. It doesn't matter what the following distance is, the cruise control will sometimes brake hard or delay acceleration. It's even seen a vehicle in a turn lane and braked hard. We told the dealer and its doesn't happen as much but still happens. Also, if you have to tap the brake while using ACC and then hit the resume button or you need to get into "Passing Gear" without the ACC, the 9 speed seems to take a good 30 seconds before it selects the proper gear.
But thats my only issues that I've had. Sure, I've had a front sensor tell me something was there while I was the only car on the road, but when I stopped and checked it, it reset and was fine. Our florida trips also give me better than advertised mileage with averages of 27 to 29 mpg without the ECO button. My wife has a 2020 Chevy Blazer and the Passport beats it hands down, across the board. I plan to keep it as long as I can.

I have a 2020 EXL with now 55,000 miles. Has been a terrific family vehicle, that is still Honda fun to drive. Many long road trips that it excels at. Only problems was the screen issue which Honda replaced a cable FAKRA, (problem solved). My only dislike is the push button shifter, just not a fan, I would 100% buy a new model if they ever went back to a shift lever, not sure if they don't.

Great review! I've owned my 2022 EX-L edition for two and a half years so far (and also did a video about it), but haven't had any adaptive cruise control issues. We did take our Passport from Virginia to Florida, New York, and West Virginia multiple times, and it did great not only on long trips but as an everyday family hauler. I had some other issues with it, though. Watch my own honest review on my channel for more insights!

This is actually a "spot on" review. I have my Passport (EXL) for 1 year and LOVE it. Loads of room, comfortable and drives great. Great ride. However I did have issues with the infotainment jumping to the setting screen and freezing. It was in the shop for a few days while they waited for a new screen to be delivered. They replaced it and Its been fine since. I also got a sweet deal on it last October. About the same price to lease as a loaded CRV and a whole lot more car. Very happy with it.

    • @normt430
      @normt430 Před 3 lety +2

"We've(Edmund's) come to a crossroads with the Passport over its infotainment. A system that at first seemed quirky but acceptable has caused major issues of late, and we've learned we're not the only ones with this experience. On separate occasions, with different drivers behind the wheel, the Passport's screen has suddenly stopped functioning in the middle of driving. The audio shuts off, and the touchscreen refuses to respond to commands. This means you lose whatever navigation, multimedia and other information you may have been using, and can't regain control.
Both times it happened, our editors parked the Passport and turned it off for a short break. On one of those occasions, the screen flashed on and would not turn off even as the vehicle stopped running and the doors were locked. We contacted Honda, who brought the car in and issued a service to fix the "running infotainment" problem. The automaker says the fix will be available to owners as an over-the-air update soon (click here to access Honda's owner update site, under 'Software System Updates,' or here for instructions about over-the-air updates). But it does not solve the initial problem, which is a total shutdown of the infotainment system while the Passport is moving.
This is a frustrating situation for buyers. It does not reflect well on the quality of the Passport's software, and causes a potential distraction hazard at speed. At time of writing, the problem has not occurred in more than two months, and there have been no issues in the short time since Honda completed its service. But we've learned other owners have had similar experiences in Passport, Pilot and Odyssey models. The company is "working to provide market repairs which include software and hardware fixes," we were told. Unfortunately, that's a hard answer to swallow. We will report back if any further issues arise." - Ryan ZumMallen, reviews editor

It’s been in three times for recalls and all seems well for now except for a frequent error message saying a software update has failed even though the software shows as up to date when I run the update process manually over wifi. OMG Thank you for this long term test. I have a 2020 Elite with just under 5k miles. The sensing systems are terrible. My 2017 CRV was so much smoother. The brakes seem strange too. Feels like they stab sometimes, other times it feels like they aren’t braking enough. Too sensitive. Maybe that issue is tied to the sensing system? Same thing with the infotainment issues... looses network, shuts down where the entire infotainment system goes black. Moral of the story... what was was happening on the 2019, are not corrected in the 2020. 😏 UPDATE: My Honda dealer had the car for about 6 hours and completely replaced the connectors on the infotainment system. Has been working flawlessly since. The sensing also seems to be more tolerable. As on Nov 12, 2020 I am starting to like this Passport. Fingers crossed everything stays working, I just might keep her.

I had several serious problems with our Passport....Lane keep made you feel like a ping pong ball, while backing up and have a 'thunk" while turning the wheel to park, and the biggest problem was with the auto braking.....during a nice sunny day, clean windows, driving from 2 lane highway and merging to a 4 lane highway.....nothing at all in front of us when suddenly at 60mph the Passport just SLAMS on the brakes...thankfully there was no one close to us to the rear and I was able to get it moving without being rear ended. My wife thought I slammed on the brakes and asked me what I saw thinking I did it, but my foot never left the gas.....picture yourself doing 60 mph and having the brakes slammed on .....trust me, we never got over that and shortly thereafter traded it in. Service could never find a problem and we were not willing to chance it happening again.

Strangely, I've never had an issue with the cruise control being jerky or being rough in its changes when "adapting". The on limitation of the adaptive cruise I do not like is the fact that it cuts out below 20 mph, there is not "crawl" feature in freeway traffic. The lane correction feature when you start straying out of your lane can be a bit surprising, but that's the whole point, isn't it. As to the issue with the dash display, that has been a recent recall which Honda has to fix for free, apart form having to spend half a day hanging out while they do the job. Al in all, still quite happy with my purchase.

Your USDM Passport Touring AWD doesn't have heated rear seats, only the Elite gets those. Carry a Keyboard that has a USB connector and when your infotainment system crashes...plug in the keyboard, simultaneously press ctrl + alt + del, and then release those keys.
In most cases, you will eliminate the jerky transmission, by installing a VCM Tuner ii.
Finally, make you rear doors open wider, by installing the door checker/stops, from the Pilot (left = 72380-tg7-a02: right = 72340-tg7-a02).

I was actually sorry to see them switch to using the nine speed in the Ridgeline because the six speed was so much better, and far more responsive.

    • @reyperez3424

The 9spd is a great transmission but according to the manufacturer, it is the transmission tune the problem, which is tune by each company that uses it.
Si a 9spd works like a 7spd for DD habits, starts on 2nd gear and up to 7spd depending on your speed limit and once you reach a highway or higher speed limit over 65-85 then you use 8-9spd overdrives .
Another issue is that people don’t know how to drive, most of them press and release the accelerator pedal instead of keeping a certain speed which confuse the transmission and it starts looking for gears.

Yeah, pressing and keeping the accelerator pedal in a steady position makes tons of sense - such as approaching a red light, overtaking slower moving vehicles or driving in hilly, twisty conditions. At least that's how smart drivers do it. Until they wake up in the hospital - the ones that wake up anyway.
Let's face it - a system that requires uncommon or illogical driving techniques is a poorly designed, deficient system. There's a reason Honda decided to design its own transmission in house to replace the outsourced 9-speed in future applications. It ain't very good.

That was my only complaint, not enough storage in the back. Due to the wheel wells inside you can not carry a 4x8 or wide things. When you push a couch into the back you realize there is a lot less room inside the more you go in. I measured the width and height of the trunk opening and thought that is what I had to work with but inside a couple feet the measurements are a lot less. This is not for carrying sheets of plywood, drywall, couches or helping someone move. The roof rails are a must and did help me with moving a couch and some sheets of drywall. I installed a hitch to tow a u-haul if there is anything bigger. If you have 4 people inside there will not be the storage space these commenters give the impression there is. Love the car otherwise.

Edmunds review failed to mention the crappy 9-speed transmission. Reverse out of the driveway in my Passport Touring, push the D/S button into Drive, press on the gas, and wait wait wait til it finally decides to go forward. The "big screen" infotainment system is misleading because the actual LCD behind the dust collecting plastic panel is much smaller. Even worse is the fact that the GPS map display is even smaller and pretty "low res" almost 1990's VGA compared to many higher end vehicle infotainment/GPS screens. Thankfully I use Apple CarPlay + Google Maps as the built-in GPS is old Garmin crap. I have not experienced the display going blank as described in the review. I turned off most of my Honda Sense safety nannies because they're more annoying than helpful flashing at me to Brake!! when there's nothing to brake for. The stereo sounds great and the rest of the vehicle is fine. I'd be much happier if Honda would fix the hesitant 9-speed transmission. I can live with the rest. [My 2019 Passport Touring has all the over-the-air and dealer software updates]

I want to love my passport so much first new vehicle I have a purchased. But that nine speed is a little funny especially with the electronic shifter anytime you’re on the hill. The infotainment is utterly atrocious. I received the recall on my vehicle fixed the rear view camera from blacking out. but ever since I purchased the vehicle even at about 1000 miles you have this lingering crackling and popping sound coming through the speakers that I cannot stand. Every time it happens it knocks you off the Bluetooth the screen freezes up sometimes when you’re using the phone or the navigation or the Apple CarPlay. All of this comes from the lengthy time the radio takes to boot up if you plug in your phone or play music during the start up it automatically causes a problem. And yes after a while the brakes to feel a little spongy. I have a 2019 EXL. And I feel that Honda is being extremely cheap for a $40,000 vehicle why can I not get HID highbeams? And the interior lights are the weakest things I’ve ever seen. If I didn’t have almost 200,000 miles on my 03 accord I would’ve kept that.
