- With a fresh Toyota 1.5jz engine (1jz head on 2jz bottom end) our sleeper Volvo 240 makes more power than the new Lamborghini Revuelto, and according to the performance calculators it should go mid-to-low 9s on the quarter mile.
Street Machine Carnage is all about having fun with cars. Sometimes it's serious performance, sometimes it's crazy fun, but it always interesting and done on a budget.

Street Machine of the past wouldn't dream of even acknowledging Japanese engines as being legit and turbos were a dark art. Scotty can take a lot of credit for highlighting power plants other than pushrod V8s and moving the focus from unattainable shed ornaments to more realistic cars that the average bloke can attain. The Trolvo is awesome bang for buck.
There was a time in living memory (1970s and 80s) when big displacement was the only way to get more air into the combustion chamber. Turbos have removed that limit. Now bottom end strength is the limiting factor. V engines are problematic because main bearing bolts are not aligned with the direction of piston travel making them a weak point that inline and flat motors don’t suffer from.
I had a street machine magazine from 88-89 that was praising the Toyota twin cam turbo engines such as the 1g-gte and 7m-gte in the same article it also said that if Toyota kept improving these engines that they could out perform the v8s, this was written before the 2jz was built the article literally reads like a prophecy
Can't you hear the sounds of the cars of the future? Little bubbles and love hearts coming out of the battery vents. Chain slap on motor bikes.....
Not for people in Malaysia/Thailand. It's regularly find its way in Volvos, BMW, Merc and Jaguar bcoz once the oem motor is broken, it's easier and cheaper to plonk in a 1j/2j/rb20/rb26.
It's been around since late 80s. It's just Europeans have zero clue about what's going on outside their velvet fog
Well done Scotty, can see how proud he is that what he built is doing that. Good effort m9, looking forward to seeing what it runs.
Oil pump. I'd be comparing pump gear size between NA and Turbo, I'm betting the turbo pump has a larger gear set. On most pumps, regardless of engine, the pressure relief can't flow enough volume, this leads to high pressure when cold.
With such a high oil pressure when cold, let the engine warm up before running it hard as too high an oil pressure can lead to bearing damage. Babbit bearings will " channel " as in blow babbit off the bearing shell. I've done this on a Ford Kent when my race group was called early / last minute and everyone was scrambling with no warm up time.
For reference on the Kent with a single stage dry sump, typical cold idle oil pressure was over 60 PSI , way higher at 5,000 RPM. Hot at 5,000 RPM was 20 PSI and hot off the track idle Zero. For a race motor wanting minimal pump losses, this was just fine.
Really good numbers on the Dyno. Better map sensor and bigger turbo is the limiter now. Looking forward to see how it perform on the strip. Good work Scotty.
Genuinely happy for you mate, it was a wild ride and you got there eventually.
Enjoy the new horsetorques
The 240 has come a long way. Well done!
Man this car is going to show everyone up, never thought it would do those numbers but let’s see what it can do on the track. Bets are up boys!!! Good work Scotty and I hope the hand is feeling better.
Tuners always look like a t-rex when they are clicking away at the laptop. 😂
Great work Scotty, credit to you for all of it🚔
Wow!!!!! That's massive mate. Gotta be over the moon. Huge power. You deserve a payrise.
I love the way the Trolvo stands up and twists banging out huge HP. You do a great job Scotty!
Awesome work mate
Brilliant, look forward to the run at the drags
You've done really well, can't wait to see it launch and go down the track, your a beast,I had no doubt in my mind that the engine going to bad ass
Nice engine build Scotty !! That thing has 800 in it for sure, with the right setup. Congrats !!
I love sleepers like this
Fan-bloody-tastic.
Great work by all as usual.
Well done Scotty PB .I wouldn’t be surprised if this twist the chassisLOL.Have fun sending it 🇦🇺👍👍
Has anyone else though that Zane has a bit of the Benny's about him..... As in Benny from Ben's custom work otherwise known as mechnic Stig 😂😂😂
Nice. I cannot wait to see what it does at the track.
Congratulations Scotty and team !
Keep it Scotty! Credit to you mate. Absolute power house
That nuts for a Volvo, Great Job Scotty
Love ya work Scotty awesome journey.
That power curve looks minty! Gonna be a fun car to drive
Very nice mate👍 can't wait to see the trolvo back at Heathcote doing some pulls
Far out scotty ! Thats epic hp! Love the vids!
Nice work, mate! Easy low 9’s
Awesome work scotty
Good job Scotty!!
great job and result 👍
Well done mate 👍
Well done Scotty!
Ahh yes I remember maxing out the 3 bar map sensor too. Think the highest the Haltech log recorded was 29.6psi. Some really good numbers there Scotty, now let's see you have some fun with it.
YUUUUUUSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!
Well done Boys!
Those are 6 angry holes! Great job Scotty.
Thanks 👍
I love how it comes on power straight away, super flat power curve 👌
Mate another episode choc full that Trolvo has had incantations to be running in the 9s easy Scotty keep up the good work
Nice work mate it will be a ripper
Exceptional result
Holy smokes scotty that is awesome 654hp
I know it’s borderline impossible now, but that would make a fun little street car!
We could but the car would have to get alot more views to make the effort
Sound awesome
Just finished work perfect timing 😁🇭🇲 ❤
488 killer wasps, she's gona fly, good stuff 🤙
well done scotty.
Wow I reckon that engine wanted to do more, great result Scotty!
I reckon it did
Well done held together no worries
Insane! The JZ series really is like a poor pans V12 in terms of smoothness and grunt, but much more $$ and config friendly.
I'm sure I was reading on the Haltech group that the internal map sensor in the elites are now rated to 4bar when using NSP firmware
It's goin to be a monster at the track
Awsum scotty
FYI (never leave a car with e85 in it sitting it can or will eventually crystallise in the lines and injectors) run or leave some other petroleum fuel to leave plenty for f other CZcams channels show this occurred to them and the extra work
Cheers Scotty
I look forward to seeing you do some serious times in this car
that's dam impressive
Happy Easter, Scotty
Great results on the Trolvo. Is it possibly the fastest Volvo in the country?
My gudness , people in Malaysia/Thailand been doing 2j/RB swap since the Supra/Skyline scrap has been available in mid late 90s.
Sincevlate 80s they even got 1j/RB20 in a Merc/BMW/Jaguar XJ bcoz its practicaly cheaper to run and maintain. It got nothing to do with power increased at all. Its 100% for reliability.
The zztops dyno session
Nice
That thing should be nasty down the quatre mate!
Love Good Friday new Carnage fresh off the press and is stout after watching that top work Scotty!!!👍🍻 How much would you have to throw at it to get it engineered on club reg for a drag challenge car??
Not sure really
I wonder how long the start wheelie is gonna be now, good luck and can't wait for some 9's.
It's already run 9s, it'll be low 9s now
Surely thats worth a beer? 🍺🍺
I can't believe that's on stock rods etc. You are brave men, I would be so worried about a rod coming through the block.
Apparently they can handle a whole lot more
Thats a spicy meatball
Yea Yea AWESOME Yea.
I guess that sums it up
Nice work scotty, how much torque did she make ?
No wonder Zanes always pulling his hair out with dyno clients. All the little things that are not right, like old E85, he needs to become a mind reader to deal with dyno customers. Anyways, i can't wait to see you run at Heathcote or Calder. Nice work El Scotto.
Yeah, I was a little embarrassed but that the sort of stuff he has to deal with constantly
@@STREETMACHINETV Shit happens mate! I think everyone has done something like that at least once. I do believe they call it a brain fart for good reasons!!
Oh my god :D it's eeeeeevil !
Its gonna need a wheelie bar hehe
The 3-53 Detroit would do that. Well almost. But sound better.
Nice work Scotty. Wait till you turbo the Mang, it'll make that power at 20psi. 😉
Haha
@STREETMACHINETV I ain't kidding lol.
Scotty, if I give you some 2gr-fe parts do you think you can "throw" them together in the shed...? You would have to be proud of your effort, to make it past first start and tuning is no small task with good numbers.
Fantastic result 👌
Does it rpm harder than before? as I’m genuinely surprised it made so much more peak power than before.
Well done guys 👍
It's got more in it too. As for rpm we'll see what it likes on the track. In theory the longer stroke should not rev as hard but we'll see how it goes
@@STREETMACHINETV so on the dyno did you ever see the peak power rpm point for the 1jz or did you guys get off it before then?
Pull the ecu out and send back to haltech to upgrade they’ve just started to put in 5bar internal map sensors
Good stuff mate, what timing did you have in it at 30 psi?
That's Zane's department, I don't ask nor question
👍
At the hubs mate 😅
Same same
slappers are good
Oh man I cant watch this. Makes me want to spend money. I had a 1.5 in my old soarer, it was an import motor and full of HKS goodies. I think slotting one in an old C126 Mercedes coupe would be a fun ride. 380SEC's are cheap and plentiful and came with a pox motor not worth owning. You done really well mate. I hope you're proud of those figures.
Woohoo
Great work! I hope the lines aren't rubber with e85 in then for 7 month's!
They're E85 compatible
@@STREETMACHINETV pull those fuel lines off and replace with Teflon lined hoses I seen so called e85 lines degrade in 12 months and become a sprinkler nothing is made to last nowadays and last thing you want is to rebuild the entire setup due to a peice of rubber
Sometimes a little bit extra size does matter... 😂
Here's hoping you squeeze into the eights in the flying Lego block.
And I bet the entire engine cost less than the $10K Motive Video said just the block and machining costs on a 1000HP RB30 😳What a feeling getting such great numbers on a home built, small-ish budget engine 👍
Less than $5k
Well over 500kw with a manual. Gonna be a weapon of a flying brick
Scotty what gearbox is in it?
I wanted to put a SBC in my HR
Maybe this is the way to go!?!
Turbo 400
Wow, just fucking 😮!❤
The video title sort of gives away the results of the dyno run.
But not the figure
HI AL;L
Well scottie glad that's over MX5 please lol just doesn't do it for me maybe if i was 75 with a flannel white dad hat but yes im impressed with 650 that's no joke better on the AUTOBARN lol
MX5 will return soon
It seems the spanner twirler has a very good grasp of engine building. We could have claimed the mazda's barra was a fluke, but to back it up with this deserves credit. It was nice to see the dyno-cell floor stay as clean as when you started too. Well done Scotty, we will watch with anticipation of an 8
It's doing that at only 5600rpm, will it rev much over 6000rpm? This isn't a criticism just an observation. Even that highish tech motor doesn't need to scream, boost is the great leveler.
greetings, what gasoline was used for those numbers ?
E85 from the pump
We have lift off
Hey Scotty, ya reckon moving to Victoria from NZ is worth while??
That a question for Zane, he's a Kiwi
@@STREETMACHINETV garn then get Zane onto it, I've got a job offer in Laverton and I'm sitting in Melton at a mates house but I just dunno if it's worth it ( same Job and same money)
@@bloodreighn depends on cost of living and all that I reckon. I'll ask Zane
Go give the Barra a run for their money
What nm did it make??
Didn't check
🐠🤘😁
What box is behind it?
Turbo 400 by All Fast Converters
@@STREETMACHINETV Thinking about a 2JZ conversion for my W124 E300 Merc here in Thailand, wont compete with my 700hp FG in oz but
Lol remember when you thought barras were awesome 😂
The Mazda makes 822hp at 28psi
How is your hand ?
Much better now, took all the bandages off yesterday
9.23 @ 175ish
175mph is 7sec. But 143-145mph maybe
