EOWS 612 Alternate Wail/Alert - Wakarusa, IN 8/5/13

- Showed up at Wakarusa at 6 thinking that they would test since the town manager told me they test at 6 just last week. Well 6:10 rolled around and nothing. Called FD and they said it would be 7. Go figure. So thinking that nothing was going to happen, I set up a camera in the bush and headed off for the Bourbon T-128. Obviously I got more than I bargained for! It does about a minute of alert and then goes into Alternate wail.
This 612 is located on Waterford St in Wakarusa. They also have 3+ Model 2s which you can hear at the beginning.

It immediately switched to the Alternate Wail!

My favorite Sirens that do Alt. Wail are the EOWS Sirens they have a super nice tone my second favortite Alt. Wail sirens are the T-Bolts

Did you guys ever figure out what was making that really creepy noise and why it activated with the other sirens? It almost sounds like some small electronic fire sounder or something inside the fire station.

Brandon Straight If you've seen Siren1000T1's video of an EOWS-612, it rotates faster than this one does. I agree with procksomaterman about the rotator.
Green And Orange Line Productions FS Rotators are adjustable. Older 2001's and Thunderbolts can go 1, 2, 4, and 8 RPM, Newer 2001's, 508's, The Equinox, and the EOWS can go 1, 2, and 4 RPM
And the broken thunderbeam goes like 500 rpm. It literally had crack poured into the gearbox

4J25 You know what? That is a very good question and I'm surprised noone has asked before lol. It comes from inside the fire station so its not an outdoor siren. That being said, I still have no idea what it is. Or why it goes off with the system.

***** In this case, replacing this with a T-121 was a hell of an upgrade. This thing was probably not much louder than a Model A/D/L. Half the drivers in it were blown and the electronics were on the fritz. On top of everything it didn't even have a radio, someone had to drive to the FD and push the button.
I can understand why the drivers on that thing are blown. That siren has an extremely high pitched sound, which probably put too much stress on the drivers.

Nice. Although it doesn't sound like a 612......The pitch is a bit higher then the real 612 pitch. but still cool. And I noticed this 612 had a glitch were it changed to alternate wail after the alert tone. like I mean the wind down was the alternate wail wind down. PLUS, the rotation speed is slower then on a normal 612........Sad to see this epic siren break down..........It looks as though this got replaced.

PlatinumEagleStudio's My town only uses ASC sirens. They used to have RM-130s. Now they have T-128s. Also, one of the T-128s did fast wail last year.

+Hextraordinary13 nope. Now Chicago only has Federal Signal Modulators, which use the same sound card as the EOWS so they can produce the same tones. It also has 2001s, Thunderbolts, and maybe an STH-10 in the suburbs

I'm not entirely sure but I know this siren is sounded for firecalls, so that's probably what it's used for.

Levi Mevis I'm not an expert on it, but I would say for different emergencies? For example, you may use an Attack for Weather, Wail for an incoming invasion and Alternate Wail for Fallout/Radiaton? Not sure, just a thought. Maybe something to do how sound travels?
