It’s amazing how HR changed with the times. From Bebop to this. Actually more musical than the other fusion guys of the era. Can’t think of anyone else who did this. Respect!

I think today Pasquale Grasso can play these kind of lines better than HR on guitar ......and Wes is far above on hardbop ( melodic and fluent ) .Here the men are Jeff Berlin ,Pete Jolly and the drummer Joe Brancato .
Howard was the guitarist on many great movies and films and recordings... He was the one playing the eery melody on the original " Twilight Zone " .....
Mr HR first got me interested in jazz guitar, way back in 1967. Rock was never the same after that. Love his lick at 4:01. Used same in Misty. Capitol-Greatest instrumental hits. Never thought i would get a glimpse at that sensational gem.
One of the best years of my life was at GIT between 1983-1984, and that's largely thanks to Howard. What a freakin' genius. HR, thanks for teaching me and thousands of others about music. Thanks for posting this, Sironedragon. You da man!
I never met him, but we did talk on the phone in the 70's. I was looking to teach, but he had a full roster. I only found out recently when he talked about avant-garde guitar, he told his students that there are 3 guitarist they should listen to, Derek Bailey, Sonny Sherock and me
Ain't it great to hear Pete's killer piano as opposed to all the cheesy organ presets used on most of HR's recordings? Would be interesting project to try and replace all those with hipper sounding tunings.
Pete Jolly's piano playing on this is spectacular as usual. No one like him.

HR and some of his friends in the late 70's were playing at Donte's in California and playing the first of what would be a Fusion scene
