  • Why did The Mongols Fail to Take Indonesia?
At the end of the 13th century, Kublai Khan had hopes of bringing more territories under the ascendancy of his empire, with Java being one of those aims. Thus, an envoy by the name of Meng-qi was sent to speak with the King of Singhasari in Java to negotiate the kingdom submitting itself to Mongolian authority and protection for the price of a tribute. This suggestion was tremendously ill-received by the king, Kertanagara, who lashed out at the messenger.

Supply lines, logistics, moonsoon, hostile nature, climate, etc.
but the most dangerous is the moonsoon season
Ships at that time were very dependent on the wind for propulsion. 6 months the wind blows from the north (China) of the equator to the south (Java) and the next 6 months from the south of the equator to the north.
This means that the troops who arrived first to Java (Gao Xing and Co) will only receive back up aid for at least another year!!
especially in those days, it wasn't easy to build a fleet of ships, it took years! and very expensive!
not to mention the many sea straits in Indonesia that make it easy for the Javanese fleet to make surprise attacks that cut off Mongol's supply lines.
and one thing, before king singhasari was couped by his regent, king kertanegara sent a pamalayu expedition which succeeded in making the kingdom in sumatra which was famous for being a tough sailor join java.
If Gaoxing did not decide to withdraw immediately, it was very likely that the Mongol fleet would be wiped out if the Sumatran fleet came to help the Javanese troops by intercepting the Mongol fleet which was retreating from Java

there's 2 things that need correction and some informations in this video.
1stly, Majapahit Flag is little bit wrong. Their flag should be started with red line or red color not white as the video shows. This will be the reason why Indonesia flag is red and white. Their red and white flag is very connected to their name "Maja & Pahit". A Maja Fruit that Taste Bitter(Pahit), so they combine it and then voila. Majapahit was born(they really love to combine 2 words into one such as *Nusantara* word), Maja fruit is like a coconut fruit, the color is white and I forget why the taste is bitter, therefore they usually eat the fruit with *Red Sugar* or *Gula Aren(Gula Merah)*. That's why they were using Red & White Color as their flag, the flag name are many, but the very known one is *Umbul-Umbul Merah&Putih or translated to red & white pennants*.
and 2ndly, Majapahit was born after Raden Wijaya succeed beat the Mongolians Troops.
    Yeah, I think that's all😁

The order to conquer Java was issued by Khan the Great in March 1292.[31] The Yuan forces departed from southern Quanzhou,[32] then followed the coast of Dai Viet and Champa towards their main objective. The small states of Malaya and Sumatra submitted and sent emissaries to them, and the Yuan commander left several darughachi there. It is known that the Yuan troops stopped at Ko-lan (Gelam island) on February 25, 1293 [Note 2] to plan their attack. On March 15, 1293, Ike Mese and one of his subordinate commanders set out first to carry the Emperor's orders to Majapahit. According to Kublai Khan himself, if the Mongol troops were able to defeat Java, the other countries around him would automatically submit.[6] In this way, the Mongol Yuan Dynasty was able to control the Asian sea trade routes, because of the archipelago's strategic geographical position in trade

In history, Mongol wiped out tens of thousands of Kediri army who dominated Java. The history book also mentioned Raden Wijaya used the Mongol to wipe out all other smaller warlords that pose as future threat. After years of warfare, the merely 10-20k Mongol troops would have their number reduced by at least half, especially facing over than 60k Kediri army alone. While they lost the war in the end, they were still a badass who had the gut to sail across thousands of kingdoms away, wiped out enemy far larger, in unusual terrain and condition and still returned home with 3 warships full of slaves and gold.

So, while Kartanagara himself had his reign cut short by rebellion, Java was saved from Mongol's hallmark of pyramid of skulls.

    Why?
Because every Kings in the region were alarmed. We've been trading peacefully with the Song Dynasty. Have you notice that the King Kertanegara already made a precautionary attemp by enacting Pamalayu Expedition? A very time consuming preparation with diplomacies dealt around the region only to be abruptly ended by Jayakatwang's betrayal.
Even with the bulk of larger army is now away and returing home from the expedition, Raden Wijaya must save the Kingdom quickly. Shall he delayed, Jayakatwang will become stronger and the Mongol might have just left the island with a few deals.
To employ your enemy in such way wasn't really a prime goal. It was simply no better option turned out to be a brilliant strategy!

Simple. Full of jungles. Mongols survive on steppe. To use ships, impossible...they could not built any.

The Javanese are the only tribe in Asia that can defeat the Mongolians on the battlefield. The Japanese were able to repel the Mongolian invasion because they were saved by the Kamikaze Hurricane, not by fighting. and the Egyptian Mamluks who defeated the Mongolians in the battle of Ain Jalut.
This indicates that the Indonesian nation is not a nation that is easily colonized and oppressed by foreign nations...Mongolia alone has the largest conquered territory after the British Empire was defeated, let alone only the Dutch...

It's better to die on the ground than to live in shame

Sisa pasukan Raden Wijaya+Kerajaan Sunda vs pasukan Mongol 🗿

I commented before watching the vid, My guess is from their army configuration. The most obvious from my opinion is mongol cavalry is the best from where they come from while not so much for their marine and infantry. While Indonesian army in my opinion is the opposite based of their jungle and islands territory, their marine and guerilla warfare is the best . So it's kinda like using your head to meet your opponent leg 🗿
