Prepping car at home for new Track Layout

  • Video to show what I do before I go on a track with new layout. The RX28 cars once setup even from home and you put it on the track, it'll work almost 100% race ready.
    As for the how-to check and fix the car's tweak. I suggest to ask your local drivers on that because there are few ways of doing this and my version may not be right. The idea is to have both Left - Right wheel to go up at the same time in the front or the rear.
    Please comment if you have any questions. Thanks!

    I’m just going to put a comment here to give an update on this setup. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to visit the track during that week. I actually didn’t get to visit until after couple of months later on 12/23/2023. When I visited the track and put this car with the same setup as you see in this video, the car set the fastest lap at 7.36 seconds in the current “Roval” layout. I ran this car for two days and didn’t change anything. Didn’t adjust anything either. It works right away, race ready. So the video I posted here was a good base setup in the 3500kv class at Lemo Fox Mini-Z. For the non-local drivers, try it as well. Maybe it’ll work for you too. 🤙

    Greetings TJ,
    Another banger of a video. What size is the shim that you put on rear wheel hub?

    • @tjaymacRC
      @tjaymacRC  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Thank you! Sometimes I put 1x 0.2mm shim and sometimes it needs 2x 0.2mm. It all depends on the wheel. Even the same brand can vary. The one in the video was 0.2mm but I put 2 of them for my Mod RX28 SE and on my RX28 Standard (3500 car) with the same wheel, I put 1x 0.2mm. My 2500 RX28 car doesn't have any shim. I use PN Delrin rims on that.

    Could you make a short video on how you glue your tires? Thanks for all the great info!

      Hi! Yes, I have that video (for the rear wheel/tire). I just need to do the edit. Maybe sometime this week. Thanks!

    Hey Tjay is there a reason why you're going with the marka rr15's in the rear compared to the rr05's? These marka tires (the rr05's) are very populair at out local club, they have alot of grip but a very short lifespan on the track. Have a good day!

      Hey Patrick,
      Mainly run time and consistency feel but...
      I ran the Marka 5 and 10 slicks but I haven't tried the 5 and 10 radial versions because I'm not looking for more traction. I was looking for less traction in the rear, so I tried the Marka 15 slicks and found out that the 15 slicks were too hard. Note that the compound in the 15 slicks are a lot harder than the compound in the 15 radials. So even if the 15 radials doesn't have treads anymore, you still have grip way more than the 15 slicks. If I was to put a number on the Marka 15 radials when its worn down and slicks, I would number it as Marka 12. As to why I'm looking for less traction, that's because our local track has pretty high traction. Too much rear traction, the car tend to either have the rear end to diff out, hop or traction roll. It also upsets the car if the layout has fast with quick Left-Right transition. Also, in the middle of the race in Mod class. The stickier tires has more chance of folding even when you glue it to the rims. Something I do not want to deal with while racing especially since I use my tires from Qualifiers (and practice in between) to Mains.
      The downside with Marka 15 radials is that it needs to warm up. You need at least 3 laps to get a good grip in the back (in Mod class). If you take off hard, the rear is like drift tires. So go easy on the first few laps then drive hard after.
      Thanks for watching and the comment!

      @@tjaymacRC thank you for your fast explaination, I always thought when the radial profile is gone you need to throw away the tires (with slicks i feel the rear end tends to spin out a bit faster) but maybe this has to do with my throttle settings, got the settings of the hobbywing mini28 as wel as the radio settings (futaba 4px) set on neutral, or stock as it comes from the factory. Going to give the harder tires a shot to, since our local club has pretty high grip to. I still have alot to learn and apprieciate your explaination, thank you!

      @@patricklippold2973 You’re welcome! You may want to look into the Mini28 settings. I know on my GL ESC, I have to adjust it a little bit. I forgot what I changed but I posted that in the Community Tab on my Channel. Its different from Mini28 but my point is, I don’t run my ESC in stock or with factory settings because the throttle doesn’t feel linear. I like my car to have smooth power output. Maybe with Mini28, there’s a throttle “punch” settings you want to adjust.

    What is the battery/esc connectors has the battery have the balance connector?

      @tjaymacRC  Před 7 měsíci

      The male battery connector glued on the ESC is the: Mini Micro Jst 2.0 Ph 3 Pin Connector Plug Male that I bought from Amazon: a.co/d/agiFZrL
      No balance connector.

      @@bazmack4697 I pulled the middle pin out. So there’s only two pins in the male connector.
