      I’m not like a huge fan of tank control RE, I just like 3rd person shooters a lot. But even I think 2 and 3 should have gotten zero and 1 treatment for a faithful remake.
      I mean, they basically got the voices and even the map basically done. All they need to do (which I can imagine would still take a while and a lot of effort) is use those assists they’ve created and turn into a classic style game.
      They don’t even need to make the backgrounds 2D images for the backgrounds since graphics are so much better now.

    Pastra made a great video on this same topic a while back, and so I’ll just copy/paste my comment from there due to covering basically the same bases:
    “The way Nemesis is treated in RE3R is honestly the worst way I’ve seen a legacy character be handled in recent memory. Back when RE2R released and Mr. X was just changed from just being scripted encounters in the original to stalking you throughout the RPD as a dynamic and intimidating pursuer, a common phrase I saw was “man, if Mr. X is this bad, I can’t even imagine what Nemesis would be like.” And then once RE3R was announced, I couldn’t wait to see what they’d do with Nemesis if they repeated the same formula with Mr. X, and the demo seemed very promising since he was the this scary and unrelenting threat who chased you throughout the streets of Raccoon City and even turned zombies into these creepy parasite monsters. Essentially making him feel like a proper successor to RE2R’s Mr. X, but within a wide open city instead of confined to the walls of a police station.
    Then you play the rest of the game, and it turns out that section is pretty much both a large chunk of the game and one of the very few ones where Nemesis is actually a constant pursuer. And throughout the rest of it, he’s reduced either to scripted segments or lame boss fights, as you said. Gone is him popping up in any area of the game when you least expect it, or even having to maneuver and escape from him as he patrols an area like Mr. X, but just more or less reduced to a glorified cutscene.
    And to add salt to the wound, Nemesis is just straight-up absent for the second half of the game due to becoming his much worse dog form. He doesn’t chase you through the sewers, the RPD, the hospital or even NEST 2 *at all.* In fact, until the game decides to remind your of his existence, he may as well just straight-up not exist. It’s like they basically swapped Mr. X and Nemesis’s roles for the infamous character that’s *known* for being the best stalker/pursuer in the series, to the point where future ones like RE2R Mr. X, Jack Baker and Lady Dimitrescu are modeled after him, and instead watered him down to a pathetic shell of his former self.
    I don’t hate RE3R, since it’s still fun and enjoyable to play…but man, with how much it missed the mark as a remake or even a sequel to RE2R, it’s clear to tell it was handled by a separate team who didn’t really care about what made the original special and unique in the first place.”

      On repeat playthroughs, you can see that he is even more limited in his "roaming" section than you might first assume. For one, a single grenade can take him out for so long that you can leisurely take your time to the next section. And two, the sections he appears in are always when you are no longer exploring and have a single way left to go, and the destination is usually very close, so you can mostly just book it and ignore him (as long as you dodge when he jumps in front of you. Though, the tentacle grab move doesn't really put you in harm's way as long as you are pressing the walk button away from him). So even in the few short roaming sections at the beginning, he is still limited because they are treated like hallway running sections, essentially the equivalent of an autoscroller in a 3D adventure game. Go from A to B, he will be behind you the whole time, but its only 30 secs of walking to win.

    I think that the worse thing that one can say about the nemesis of the remake is comparing him to resident evil 2 remake.
    Original RE2, Mr. X was an enemy that was a set-piece. He was designed to show up in 'some' parts of the game in the B-Route. He did not chase you for much of the police station or onwards, with the exception of the fire puzzle room and how Tyrant will chase after the player to the hallway if not taken cared of. In the Remake, Mr. X was designed to patrol and hunt down the player in the police station for much of the game and that is what many people talk about. The RE2, for me, had a number of problems that some people ignore, but the improvement of the Tyrant to be patrolling for the first half of the game was not one of them.
    On the other hand, RE3 had a Nemesis that will show up multiple times, in multiple places based on which paths and choices you made, and was willing to chase after you for a 'long while' in different rooms and areas with little limitations. The Nemesis was designed to do what Mr. X did not, which is actively chase after the player across much of the world. In RE3R however, the Nemesis devolved to be less like RE3 Nemesis and more like RE2 Mr. X, having a linear path with the Nemesis, along with his aggression being generally nullified for much of the game after the first 10-30ish minutes of your playthrough.

      Same here.. nemmy being my all-time favorite baddy. The only thing i want to give the remake credit for regarding nemmy, is giving him a flamethrower. It was poorly done, but i like to imagine that in the og re3 world. He was able to chase you down and smack you still when he had the rocket launcher.. do the same with the flame thrower but now you don't have to worry about a single projectile coming out and instead worry about a constant hitbox. Distance could keep you safe from it, but distance often can trigger him to run, and when he runs you don't really get to apply damage.
      The blueprint was their, and they messed it up so bad in the remake. If your not aware, theirs an og re3 mod out now that lets you play as nemesis.. both in the original story (nemmy vs nemmy fights XD) and in a specialized scenario that allows you to chase down jill. IMO it could use some polishing for jills AI, but for what it is it's a good fun thing to play through at least once.

      @@animezilla4486 I understand but the difference here is that MvC is a fighting game spinoff and the Remake is an official game being used as an experience for newer people to get into the series and having the representation of the series be so bad can put people off from trying other titles or even the classics. So I understand where you are coming from but making Nemesis a boss character only relegated to cutscenes in which he is mocked or quick time events that only add a shallow feeling of terror and either being too easy to kill or more annoying to kill (Meaning that the gameplay of fighting him isn't fun) removes all the impact that he has had on the genre as being the prototype to stalker characters in survival horror. Not to mention cutting 70% of the original game and replace it with Michael Bay explosions to make the game more "awesome". It really beats the purpose of being a survival horror. Like, even if Jill is a veteran when dealing with B.O.W.s, she only dealt with them in an isolated mansion... now this is the full scale city, full of thousands of citizens... now either dead, dead and walking, or eaten.
      The few moments of peace with no sounds, just the background music, really hit the isolation vibe of "we're so fucked". Especially when sometimes Nemesis just shows up or a random enemy catches you off guard, like the Drain Demons or Spiders. Even the Outbreak games for PS2 got that feeling of "fake safety in the nothingness" right. Just because you don't hear a sound, doesn't mean you're safe.
      R3make just tries so hard to be more action based that it feels like an insult

    I remember Mikami talking to an interviewer in official PlayStation magazine before nemesis came out. He mentioned that he had a weird experience one night when he returned home. The feeling of isolation as he attempted to open his door by getting his keys and checking around him. Nemesis is in my opinion the monster that chases everyone up their stairs at night and I think Mikami crafted and molded him to suit that emotion.

    It’s strange to say that in the old games, Nemesis scared the hell out of me and Mr. X annoyed me… but in the modern games, Mr. X terrified me and Nemesis annoyed me.
    In the modern games, I was terrified to make any noises with Mr. X on the other side of the building because he would definitely notice and hunt me down, so I didn’t want to mess up my ammunition supplies or lose health with how random he seemed to go from room to room in finding me, making me hunker down and hide as he walked by and failed to notice me.
    Modern Nemesis, however, kept showing up at predictable places and he kept appearing at cheap times, like when I entered a safe room, left and then nemesis charged out of the alley in front of me when I had nowhere else to go and when he kinda just pulled a cartoon character move and walked through a wall in front of me with no path around, but with Mr. X I had options and it was on me to run into a dead end or corner myself and I had to be afraid of running into the wrong place.
    When I knocked down Mr. X, I put my all into it… when I knocked down Nemesis, I was surprised it took 1 grenade and gave me a massive reward for how easy it was. Mr. X also remained a decent threat through his consistency in methods until the very end, he had a personality and I dreaded the moment I shot his fedora off and he seemed to be genuinely offended by that, knocking zombies out the way and strolling right up to me like I committed a cardinal sin. With Nemesis, I was always thinking “what did they change this time? What’s the new gimmick?” at every minute and it didn’t help me put down what his personality was… first he was the trash man, then purser, then infected doggo, then whatever else.
    What also gets at me is design. Originally Mr. X was just guy in trench coat #85, but then they gave Mr. X a refined, but disturbing up close visual in the face and eyes which made it a question on how much was the monster in control and possibly even the person. Meanwhile they changed the half suit and stretched/ripped face of Nemesis and gave Nemesis trash bag clothes and a ridiculous crooked nose that looks glued on or someone slapped his original human form mid transformation and now he looks like that.
    Then we get to introductions, finally. Nemesis gets a long winded cutscene where you can’t get hurt or die in your own way and it reveals too much about what he does before we can properly start hiding from him. Mr. X, though, comes out of nowhere, leaves you questioning who the hell he is as he marches towards you and makes you ask ‘RUN OR SHOOT???’ And makes for a good pursuer for the game. (I know Birkin offs one of the X’s pretty easily, but it’s Birkin, come on. Doesn’t detract from how intimidating Mr. X is.)
    Those are my thoughts on the two, since the modern remakes were supposed to be a good demonstration of horror realized and such, but Mr. X was more of a success of what horror is while Nemesis is the example of trying too hard.

    The worst part is that "fan boys" will defend these horrible decisions by defending the remakes as "reimagines" when it was already established they're complete remakes. Making Nemesis mutate like every other generic RE villain, imho, is the biggest offense here. The cool thing about og Nemesis was that he barely seemed to care about the damage you did to him. In RE, enemies mutate when they're not strong enough to defeat you. Hell, even in the lore, William's mutations occur to repair his damaged body. Nemesis mutating into a generic dog monster made him look weak and changing him into a mindless beast-like form this early on in the game ruined his character since Nemesis was supposed to be an intelligent stalker (kinda like a Clock Tower villain), capable of handling weapons like a rocket launcher.
    In og RE3 Nemesis felt unstoppable, despite the game's limitations. He got riddled with bullets over the course of several encounters, he was blown out of a moving tram by Mikhaill's hand grenade, got electrocuted or thrown off the clock-tower balcony and he got cooked for who knows how long, after the battle at St. Michaels, yet he only started mutating after losing his head, getting showered in acid, designed specifically to get rid of t-virus experiments, and then dumbing the rest of his body into a pool full of that exact acid. Only then did he start mutating. In that stupid remake, he's literally like every other generic boss monster from every RE after RE3. Edit: Actually, he's just another William. They took William's dog form and applied it to Nemesis.

    Funfact about Nemesis;
    That actually wasn't intended to be his name! It was simply meant to pose as a subtitle to let the player know what they were getting into, but the name caught on, and Capcom kept it. Never in the original or the remake do they call him Nemesis, and it isn't written as a name anywhere on him, Umbrella's pod that dropped him into the city, the tyrant's weapons, or in any documentation from the scientists found in the Umbrella facility. He became so beloved that fans used this to refer to him, much like how T-00 from the second game was lovingly referred to as Mr. X after a journalist used the name while reviewing the game.

    True story: when I was a kid, before sleeping at night I would always get scared at the thought of Nemesis ACTUALLY existing. I finished the game at a very young age and would always choose the option to run and avoid Nemesis as much as possible (except the last choice. Made sure he got stars). This was a mistake since this is when I got my real life phobia of being chased. I literally can't play tag as a kid without panicking and even as an adult, I would be tremendously exhausted by the sheer panick of being chased literally by 1 single zombie in a videogame. The footsteps and slow approach of someone catching up to me never fails to make me jump, let alone a B.O.W. with a rocket launcher and tentacle arms chasing me.
    The intro (main menu cinematic) always gave me chills. Its my first introduction to him and I still think its the best opening for any RE game.
    RE3 REMAKE does the opposite and quite frankly, heals me of the terror I once had for Nemesis. But rewatching the original intro, it brought it back. RE3 was and still is special to me, for better or for worse lol

    I felt to mention that another thing that annoys me with nemesis in RE3make is that he transforms like halfway through the game when that was absolutely not the case in the original, Nemesis was so strong and perfected of the tyrant monsters that he didn't need to mutate unless absolutely necessary like at the very end of re3. But in the remake he just gets burnt and falls into a river and becomes a dog...like what? It just comes across that he's way weaker if anything, especially whatever the hell he was at the end of the remake.

      Especially since the mutations Nemesis went through didn't necessarily make him better. His second form with the tentacles isn't appreciably stronger than his first form and the loss of a weapon limits him pretty drastically. And the third form is more of a downgrade if anything. Tough, but too slow and clumsy to pose a serious threat like regular Nemesis could. RE3make Nemesis certainly made him get stronger, but turning into doggo immediately tore out everything that made OG Nemesis special in favor of "bigger = better", and before long he just ends up as a big stupid goop monster.

      I've said this several times but RE3make misunderstood Nemesis transformations to a stark degree: OG Nemesis' Transformations weren't to show him becoming more powerful they were to show how relentless Nemesis is, that no mater how much damage he suffers he will continue his mission. They aren't upgrades, they are degenerations of his self while still keeping the identity of that Relentlessness. Capcom has been turning most of their monsters into Birkin copies as of late and it's been irksome.

    Also, let's not forget, Nemesis is dumped in the remake IMMEDIATELY then mutates IMMEDIATELY into a big G knock off. In the original, you don't know what Brad is afraid of until it kills him, and from then on he's hunting you. In the remake, he's there immediately. And when he mutates, it's half way into the game, there's no real surprise, it's just a boss monster. In the original, he ends up shirtless and with more tentacles (honestly, he could've left Raccoon City and become a ero manga protagonist at this point), but then later on, the next time you see him, he's this huge monster flopping and slopping towards you that needs a massive cannon to destroy (and not just some Akari rip off movie set piece).
    In the original, there's suspense and stress points. In the remake, he's just a set piece. They also made him uglier which, I mean, fuckin' rude...
    And also, going back to the Brad getting killed part, the remake ruined both Brad's dramatic death AND Marvin's infection story. In their originals, Brad was killed in a gory way which warned you of what would happen should Nemesis grab you (cos he does have an instant kill grab move if you don't break free) and Marvin was bitten while protecting survivors escaping the station (Resident Evil Outbreak File 2, if anyone was wondering), which was heroic. In the remakes, it's just "Brad got bit, then he somehow talked and bit Marvin." It's such a punk arse way to go out for both of them.

      What made OG Nemesis great is his unpredictability. The game allowed you to go certain places... and he would be there ready to kill you ro would show up out of nowhere to kill you. Even if you went to the save room, he wouldn't banish when you got out. And the quick time events for decision making made the game more dynamic. It made you consider if you wanted an easy win or try and tame the beast. If you did, you were handsomely rewarded with parts for an upgraded gun and then a shotgun... and they felt really worth it. But it also affected the story in what would happen later on until the end of the game. Making you feeling scared if you messed up and whatnot.

    RE3 Remake feels like such a sick joke directed at me specifically. The original RE3 was my favorite RE game before playing the REmake, and even then the REmake only just edged it out. After seeing what an incredible job Capcom did with REmake, I remember back around 2006-2007 being a teenager and really really REALLY hoping that Capcom could get around to remaking RE2, so that they could then get to work on a RE3 remake that'd be just as much of an incredible improvement over the original that REmake was.
    Then over a decade later, REmake 2 comes out and while I didn't consider it the unilateral and universal improvement over every aspect of the original that REmake was, it was still an incredible game that improved so much in many respects, ESPECIALLY Mr. X.
    Then RE3 Remakes comes out just a year later and it's like it was sharted out with zero effort.

    OG Nemesis is basically the Terminator changed to fit the setting of RE and so that Ridley Scott's lawyers wouldn't look at it, raise their eyebrows in curiosity and say "ayo?". Nemesis cannot be bargined with, Nemesis cannot be reasoned with, Nemesis does not have a sadistic streak, Nemesis not only has weapons, Nemesis IS a weapon, that's why it only ever said "stars", that was the only thought on it's mind, it thinks of killing S.T.A.R.S. killing S.T.A.R.S, meeting up with it's childhood sweetheard and teaming up to more efficiently kill S.T.A.R.S. and killing S.T.A.R.S. It does not hesitate because it doesn't feel emotion, it kills S.T.A.R.S.
    Remake Nemesis wastes time with things that are not killing S.T.A.R.S., grabs and lifts Jill by the head then throws her out of the way instead of killing S.T.A.R.S., waits patiently for the next scripted fight instead of killing S.T.A.R.S. and generally fucks around instead of killing S.T.A.R.S.
    As for why they did it, there's two reasons.
    1. They had a fucking unnecessary multiplayer component.
    2. It's MODERN and everything about the original is OUTDATED and ARCHIAC and THEREFORE BAD, such as having regards for things like BASIC GAME DESIGN.
    I'm not saying ALL MODERN GAMES BAD. But for fuck sake, so many just don't understand WHY the mechanics are there (in some cases such as hacking minigames, not there). Deus Ex: Human Revolution isn't an immersive sim, it's a fucking straight up stealth game. All because of regenerating health, because now guns only ever have 3 bullets max in order to compensate for effectively infinite health to incentivise stealth, so to incentivise combat YOUR ARMS REQUIRE AMMO. All of which was something the original Deus Ex avoided.

    After playing this game a lot on nightmare and inferno I get the feeling that more focus was put into those modes. Hardcore, standard, and assisted feel like an afterthought in comparison. The game feels like it was made for people who enjoy brutal difficulty, which is why I like playing it, but that leaves out most of the playerbase. Most people play for the story, puzzles, horror immersion, and just the experience of the game, all of which RE3R is sorely lacking. My dream is that someday a "director's cut" or something will be released with more content, but I doubt that will ever happen.

In the original movie Sarah could always barely escape Terminator's attacks and the only moment when he got his hand on her throat was mere seconds before being terminated. I think if he managed to catch Sarah without guns, he's squish her head or detatch it from her body. And now, just like 2020 Nemesis, they are so hands on of the main characters like a real pervert and not using the basic strength they weild to cause damage to them. They just toss people around to cause minimal damage when their fist could punch with the force of a speeding firetruck.

    In Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, I was truly terrified of being chased by Nemesis, in RE3 REmake I wasn't bothered at all by Nemesis. He was more so a cutscene I couldn't wait to get past in RE3 REmake.
    And to add to what you said about Nemesis and Mr X. at 8:11. Mr X and Nemesis are both built off of T-103 Tyrants, the big difference between Nemesis and MR X is that Nemesis is created by introducing the Nemesis Alpha Parasite to a T-103 Tyrant which takes over the brain functions for the Tyrant, it makes the already proven T-103 Tyrant that much more of a formidable foe.

Because if that's the case then it would explain A LOT of RE3's problems IMO (especially when coupled with Capcom rushing the release to push their latest multiplayer nonsense and force RE into an annual franchise). You don't put people who worked exclusively on big explosive action games in charge of a horror title...

I think Capcom rushed and half assed RE3 remake so they could make a few bucks from hardcore RE fans while getting to the RE4 remake faster. Cuz RE4 was going to be, and is, the true cash cow. And the RE4 remake does kick ass for sure. The OG is my favorite game ever. And the remake is right there with it too. But there was no need to hurry through RE3 to get there. They could have made kick ass remake versions of both if they had taken their time and done things right.

    Could we talk about how Lady Dimitrescu makes for an awful Nemesis-type stalker? She's not a programmed meat-golem, she's a person. And she moves so fast, Ethan Winters initially didn't notice the pain when his arm was chopped off. There's no reason she would just be casually strolling after the player. Also, the player is running through the house she's live in for about a century. How could we lose her? But the worst part is that her behavior and attack methods don't change in the slightest as you kill each of her three daughters. She never goes 'all out' until triggered by player actions at the very end, when you grab the silver knife.

    As stated by gothic horror, there are distinctions in fear;
    Fear; the generalized series of feelings, minus reaction or interaction, to a setting
    Aka; knowing a werewolf is chasing you
    Terror; a feat that motivates action.
    Aka; seeing the werewolf, and, trying to run.
    Horror; a fear that paralyzed, rendering one numb to rational action
    Example; you try to run from a werewolf, and realize, your feet are stuck to the ground.
    Dread; a fear that causes aversion to a specific action .
    Example; you can't pick up a weapon to fight the werewolf, due to a memory of how hard your abusive dad beat you, more so then usual, when you tried to fight back.
    Paranoia; an ever present fear, that, there is a certain chance, that something that will induce horror, will happen
    Example; you remember how much broken glass in your foot hurt and how it looked, so, your reluctant to remove your shoes to escape the werewolf, for fear of cutting your feet again.
    Tension; the overwhelming fear of which reactions to take appropriately, forcing you to simultaneously consider all your options reactively, and, take an action at a moments notice, forcing " twitchyness" you have to resist, to not give away your intentions.
    Example; you try to hide from the werewolf, while keeping your eye on it, trying hard to fight to keep that action as long as you can, by not moving or making a sound.
    Finally; panic, aka, blind horror. A sense of fear that removes environmental factors or rational thoughts.
    Example; the werewolf lunges, and, next thing you know, your hand is in its chest, the chain of your mother's silvers crucifix draped around your arm, leaving you to wonder, as the wolfs snarling maw is inches from your face " what is this reality? Am I delusional?".
    Of these, are some that WORK for games, and, some that don't. Let's define a GAME ;
    A situation with a series of rules, hidden or open, which, have a good consequence, a bad consequence, and, in some scenarios; a series of neutral consequences.
    As such; a game baised on fear, can't work with some forms of horror;
    Terror works, because, it guides choice
    Paranoia works, because, it gives alertness
    And, tension works, because, it pits critical decision making, against a problem.
    Ones that " sometimes" work;
    Panic; done right, it's a writers excuse to explore options, that, stop the player from feeling powerless.
    Example; in a certain horror game in an active mental asylum ( I forget the name, sorry) , you WERE allowed, to pick up a weapon and kill an enemy, in spite of not having access to a weapon, for a lot of the game. This made your character appear as a reasonable person, making reasonable choices, but, just .... Kinda " bad" , on.... On options. : /
    The complaint of this video, seems like it's saying the " panic" aspect, which, is usually how a heros " plot armor" is supposed to work, was done badly.
    And
    Dread.
    Done right, it can make a character appear sympathetic and human, stoping unreasonable levels of power and action.
    Done wrong; it's a lame excuse to keep your protagonist from picking up a weapon.
    The one that does NOT work for horror games;
    Horror.
    If interaction is completely robbed from a player, to CAUSE the fear, it's.... It's simply not a game.
    ....
    : /
    Unfortunately; people keep calling horror terror, and, terror horror, in the modern day. : /
    So, classical advise on these topics, will often be SO muddled, that, people.... People will often just " give up" , and, make...
    ....
    Make.... Make an " action" , action....
    ....
    , ... ,
    ....
    , ... ,
    Action, ga .... Game.
    ....
    : /

The inclusion of having Zombies, infection of T Virus, and mutation growth always helped Nemesis remain like a constant threat in any round of DBD. Competitively standing, Nemesis isn’t so much of a broken killer, but certainly no push over as he has an anti looper ability with his tentacle strike, some addons that can absolutely turn the tables on Survivors… and a chase theme that shows you that Nemesis is no ordinary killer. OG Nemesis:
    - S.T.A.R.S. behind your back from half the location and then roars before sprinting towards you.
    - Will appear in the least expected moment and always when you are going somewhere.
    - Has a missile launcher.
    - Is a damage sponge that will absorb half of your ammo (will drop goodies if you manage to defeat him temporarily).
    - Super persistent. Will never stop running after you.
    - Has the single best build-up and character establishment moment in the series.
    - His A.I. is so smart for the times that he will shoot you when you are in the open, will run after you if you are hidden in order to not waste missiles and will dodge grenades. Not to mention dodge acid showers in his 2nd to last boss fight when he gets sprayed for the first time.
    - Gets visibly more and more damaged and desperate to get you over the course of the game until he's a barely moving monstrosity.
    - Has some bitchin leather.
    - Is shown to be a custom made tyrant with the stitches on his face symbolizing it.
    REmake Nemesis:
    - Not much talkative.
    - Dies to a shitty grenade (doesn't even dodge).
    - Has some flame thrower he uses for only one fight.
    - Doesn't stalk much except for chosen moments.
