    • @kevinwebster7868
      @kevinwebster7868 Před 2 lety +50

      Resident Evil scaled back the survival horror element long ago. 7 and 8 aren’t even Resident Evil. Just because you add a Resident Evil character in a minor supporting/cameo role doesn’t mean it’s Resident Evil. The series is dead. Might as well do a full reboot at this point.

I honestly know how you feel as a halo fan so I'd say they should just disconnect the story from re and make a new original ip. If it doesn't play or look like re anymore just make it its own thing because i can tell you that the gameplay and experience is top notch

    • @gagec6390
      @gagec6390 Před 2 lety +768

      @@kevinwebster7868 This right here is why game franchises stagnate. 7 and 8 are absolutely resident evil games 100% from top to bottom.
      Point 1: Gameplay. The gameplay in both is immediately recognizable to anyone who’s played RE before. The way the map functions, the puzzles, the way you save ammo for your big guns and have to decide when it’s ok to use bullets or when you can get away with a melee cheese. The shop, the upgrade system, and the bosses are also very classic RE.
      Point 2: The environment. The Baker Estate and the Village once again pull off that same feel that only Resident Evil is really known for. Exploring these places is dark and grim, but they still manage to make you wonder why and how they exist. Every nook and cranny had a purpose, or something that will help you along your journey, so that exploration is properly rewarded. And often times they tease you with strange locked doors or pathways that you’ll always wonder when you get to crack open.
      What I’m saying is, not every Resident Evil game needs to be set in Raccoon city following a mainstay character protagonist. The franchise was on its last leg, and this kind of course correction was desperately needed. It’s new and it’s fresh, while still being true to RE. Essentially what I’m trying to say is, you’re just flat out wrong.

Honestly in my opinion it was much better then 8, just in general the horror elements essentially used in this masterpiece of a game really gave you old horror vibes, the horror aspect was one to be noticed and overall the thrill of this magical rollercoaster was getting to experience a first person re game and resident evil 7 really delivered that

    • @gamewriteeye769
      @gamewriteeye769 Před 2 lety +10

      On first play throughs comparing 7 and 8, 8 had some scarier moments (especially Beneviento house segment) while 7 had a creepier yet cheesy vibe (especially Jack chasing you around the house). Overall it's funner to do a run of 7 because not only is it shorter (about 3-5 hrs if you are good) but it delivers on some of the best elements of RE, good creepy enemies, awesome environments, fast paced, good boss fights, memorable characters and one particular thing that was absent for a long time, making a choice that affects the outcome of the story. They dropped that after original re3 and it returning in re7 was interesting. That said, the nostalgia bait of re8 being like re4 and overall cooler environments imo, I think re8 is the better experience but not as replayable as 7. I've played re7 at least 20+ times, and I don't di that for all Re games. 4 is about the other only one to be that level of replayable goodness.

      This game was an absolute rollercoaster to play, I just loved every spectacle, the amount of detail lurking around every corner, they really nailed the coffin with the horror aspect on Re8, I used to help out so many streamers with this game and the story was just nailed to perfection very reminiscent to the old re games I feel like re5 and 6 were a step back *not a letdown* but those 2 games just broke the bridges in the “scary, resident evil” vibe and 7 really brought back the old feeling of resident evil, an absolute masterpiece and hands down my favourite not only resident evil game but survival horror game..the way they used the crafting system it really made you feel persevered to conserve your things like chem fluid for other situations, f**CKING loved this game and it’ll always be the best re game in my heart

      Eh, Re8 totally ruined what Re7 started. Re8 is like a Re4 lite and then the shadows of rose DLC was a Re8 lite. I can't think of a single thing that was good about Re8, it was turned back to action, but in a clunky FPS. Then they implemented 3rd person, but the animations are unfinished and so bad to the point where it totally takes you out of the immersion.

    I remember when RE7 came out how obsessed I was with it. I hadn't played any video games in a year or two at that point. Then I see that first trailer for RE7 and like I proceed to watch all the promotional material over and over. When it comes out I watched one play through. I bought the game on a friends steam account just so I could play it on his computer. And obviously the tradeoff was that he could play it later as well. I beat it like 4 times. 4th time was Madhouse starting from scratch. And while I was still playing it I was watching other youtuber's playthroughs.
    Looking back I wasn't sure why I was so obsessed with it. Maybe it's because I know all the secrets now so it's a coherent story. Whereas back then it felt like I was Ethan discovering the family bit by bit. I just had not seen a video game like it, nor any since.
    When RE8 came out, I did think it was cool and watched a playthrough, but it didn't really capture whatever RE7 captured for me. I do own it but haven't felt like playing it yet, but I will at some point... probably after replaying RE7. There were aspects of RE7 magic in it. In the end RE7 showed that it is never too late to try reviving a franchise on the way out when you got the right peoples and right ideas.
    It is and stays a gamble, like every game developement, but you will have the goodwill of the fans when you do it right, just ask the Sonic movie guys how well that worked out for them to listen to the fans, they got a lot of goodwill that translated to ticket sales.

    • @BknMoonStudios
      @BknMoonStudios Před 2 lety +11

      I agree, although it is important to remember the difference between "listening to the fans" and "pandering to them".
      The Sonic movie makers listened to the fans but still kept an original vision that gave them something new and enjoyable without feeling patronizing.
      Compare that to most Hollywood reboots and sequels, and it's clear that pandering will only lead to failure.

Knowing that games use it too is good to know. Personally it takes me ages to model something in its entirety and I haven't even made a fully realistic style yet. Re7 was the game that introduced me to the resident evil franchise. I remember putting the disk in my ps4 and being excited to try out a horror game of the title resident evil. And throughout the whole game I was pulled into the story and gameplay. I remember being so terrified of going into a part of the game for how scary it was (The beginning, and the boat with Mia) When I finished with the game I remember how disheartened I was to see that the amazing game I played was now over. And out of all the games I've played I've only felt that sadness of finishing a game with only one other, that being "The last of us". But playing Re7 got me into the whole franchise which led me to play Village, Re4, Re2 Remake, and I cant wait for the upcoming Re4 Remake. But at the end of the day, I will always love Re7 for being the resident evil game. That brought me into this wonderful franchise. This video gave me even more of reason to love this game. Thank you for this wonderful video 👍
