Linus Tech did 2 videos on this same thing about a year ago.. They were probably even cheaper before that.
@@TwitcyTrain No, they weren't. Linus mentions the prices in those videos. About two months ago, 3GB models became dirt cheap and were dumped on eBay. The prices have gone back up again in the last few weeks.

This card would be perfect for an emulation machine.

@@fps8786 folding at home is for research purposes and is a donation of your computational power. There are similar R&D platforms that are essentially functioning the same way. BOINC is another one.

XFX used to make both vendor cards... at the same time.
@@nocturnal0072 yeah, up until they lost their Nvidia partnership status. I feel like it worked out better for them anyway. Some nice AMD cards come from xfx and sapphire.

Good video.Its been 5 months since this was made and it is CRAZY insane on the prices for ANY card and memory! Literally seen some Ripjaw Ram go from $72 to $127 in 2 days! And don't even try to find a decent graphics card..you can't!(i watched a Evga 1030 ddr5 SC passive go from $99 to $150 in less than 3 days.) So it's really getting weird out there.

@@gbarrows04 I don't think you know what "RTX" means. It's not a GPU architecture, it's what Nvidia calls their real-time ray tracing hardware.

Yeah I see you had the same idea at the end lol, hadn't gotten to the end yet, if it was a big enough company and they bought up enough of these, I could even imagine them negotiating with nvidia to continue support for the card.
asus: removes humans from their production process
also asus: charges the most out of all the manufacturers
True, but part of that is that they make better coolers and have a better clock frequency most of the time.

I bought and installed one of these in a QNAP NAS. It wasn’t immediately supported, but their drivers pick it up in current version and it can be assigned to VMs, Docker and just recently, their Plex DPKG with their provided GeForce drivers.
I’m using it for Plex transcoding. I also had it working in Docker as a realtime AI image processor, though that was purely an academic exercise. Prior to the QNAP Plex pkg’s supporting this card for GPU acceleration, I had success, though with much headache to get it to work, using it in a Docker/Plex package.
Originally I waned to try using it for a Windows VM, but their custom BIOS doesn’t support the HDMI motherboard pass-through, despite supporting 4 discrete HDMI outputs that can be individually assigned to the main OS or VMs.
Zotac card in an XFX cardbord box... seems legit :D
Whoever was selling it may have lost the original box

I didn't exactly get it for $35 (try $135 two years ago) but I did have a Zotac 1060 6GB with that exact shroud and heatsink (and which was a former mining card lol). Great little card, still doing more than fine in the family PC since I've upgraded
I was really tempted to try this with VFIO and then you hit us with the integrated graphics need. Doh!
Loved the video, I just wish I had something to compare it too when you showed the benchmarks. Kinda how someone like JayzTwoCents does it. Where you show a graph with this cards scores and then the scores of a relative close performance cards!
That is pretty funny because I saw one of these cards for sale for right around 38.98 and was about to jump at it until I saw it had no port connection and wondered if there was away around this issue and it is cool to see someone figured it out.
Love your videos man! You're what I think of as a "regular guy" PC enthusiast. I find it easy to relate to your points of view and opinions because they're just....realistic. And you haven't been bought off by manufacturers so your opinions matter to the "average guy" like myself.

Same here in Australia Mico, they are nearly all for sale by Asian sellers trying to dump used ones here between $100-$150AUD, plus what looks like a couple of sellers that bought them without realizing they have no I/O trying to sell them cheap

Currently running a 1060 on a 1440p monitor, it's a blurry mess.
In games..? Generally if you can't run native res then there will likely be scaling artifacts beyond just the reduced resolution ... Except for special cases such as quarter res. E.g. 720p would match one game pixel to 4 monitor pixels without additional artifacting beyond what is inherent to the lower res.
Of course there could be connection issues (dp, hdmi, dvi, vga etc), monitor problems or driver/settings issues besides that that you are experiencing.
@@ephemeralvapor8064 "It just works!" A 1080p smooth blur was just more appealing over the jaggies at 720; though it was sharper. My K/D is still like 2.3 too lol I am not going pull some LowSpecGamer magic unless the scalpers beat me to the 3070 in October

These things are fantastic. I picked one of these up a while ago and use it in my Plex server for video transcoding. I'm thinking of getting another for security camera motion detection using Shinobi CCTV.

It works well, but too much hassle to run some games like CoDWZ
The hassle has been removed. All you need to do is change two registry entries. No need to modify drivers or use unsigned developer mode. Linus never updated his video a third time.
the I5 4590 is my current and awesome cpu. It has served me very well the last few years and still holds up. its Good to see people still using that cpu in the LGA 1150 socket, it gets over shadowed by the I7 4790k a lot but its good even with the 5500xt.

I did something somewhat close to that, about a year ago i got a gtx 960 from aliexpress for about the same prime, it was one of the refurbished ones, it has the ports tho, but it arrived here just as new ! i'm using it without any problems, it even has the function of turning of the fans in low loads

I'd say that a rx 470 4gb for £60ish may be a better buy. Also how the hell did you get rainbow six siege to work with unsigned drivers?
There is a new method where you can sign your own modified drivers, basically that means you should do all the driver tuning by yourself (there is a instruction in the internet) and install it without test mode
You can also check out some of the stuff that EVGA drops on their B-stocks to get cheaper graphics cards.

That ad confused me so much...
The ad is a blatent lie from Asus saying they don't use child labor and that the GPUs are reliable. There are so many people, more now than ever that have issues and TRY to RMA their card. But if you thought their customer service was good enough to actually do the RMA, you'd be wrong. You bought a broken card from not tight enough tolerances and now you're screwed. That's what Asus is good for. Not Oz's fault for the ad, Asus made him say all of it.

I got an RX 550 2 Gb 64 bit for £53, primarily for its Display Port 1.4 output to add to my G4560 backup PC.
It also allows it to run low req games very well, the best of which was that I got Banished running at 80 FPS at 1200p, vs

Ozzy, thanks for the video. Not where I'm going but you always bring a smile to my face. I don't know if you're interested but part of the fallout of the RTX3 series is that GTX 1080TI cards are going for $350 at the moment. If the RTX 3070 is about the same performance as an RTX 2080TI and the RTX 2080TI is only a bit higher performance than a GTX 1080TI minus the ray tracing then ....

I have the Zotac 1080 mini. Still going strong 💪 paid 300 for it on sale from Amazon brand new and it hangs with everything. Definitely looking at the 3080 hopefully when scalpers move on to the 303080 and the PS7.

I wonder if you could find a way to run this in combination with a slightly higher end card. The 1060 doesn’t have SLI support as far as I know so there would have to be some workaround but that might be possible.
