the reason for turles ( wordplay on lettuce) and goku looking alike is quite bizarre. the writers said that saiyan warriors can have similar appearences among their low class ranks. what can be said here is that the genepool for lowclass warriors are so obvious that one can spot it from appearences alone. it really doesnt make much sense.
Well, when you look at the "diversity" of character designs between Dragon Ball, and throughout the Dragon Quest series, I would just chalk it up to everybody drawn by Toriyama looking the same regardless.
So ... their way of calling them inbred, without actually coming out and saying it. lol

I think the reason they gave in tha movie as to why Turles looks like Goku is that low class Saiyans tend to look alike.
Little known fact that Goku became a super saiyan on Christmas eve. Probably why TeamFourStar decided to make him obsessed with Christmas.

For the original releases, you're right, but TFS did Christmas Tree of Might first, followed I think by Lord Slug, and THEN they did Deadzone. Their coverage of the movies was kinda all over the place
This was the first one produced and that's generally the best order to watch them because all running jokes and references run along that timeline.
but context wise, Dead Zone is better watched after ep 31 for context on the ending
