    Have a 1999 SLT 4x4 with the 5.9 v8. Still in showroom condition and drive it daily with 177,500 miles on it. No squeaks, runs quiet, steering tight and drives straight down the highway. I love it way better than the plastic SUV’s of today.

      @@themaskedmusician4846 I just bought a 98 Durango 3 weeks ago. Just checked the actual gas mileage mine gets yesterday. Around town and up and down Lookout MTN to and from work I got 15.06mpg after driving 50.2 miles. I refilled and got on the interstate and drove 44.7 miles at a steady 70 miles per hour and got 13.41 mpg. It's rated new to get 13 city, 17 hwy. I think going 70mph killed my mpg. It might get the 17mpg "highway" if I drive 50 or 55mph

    My dad brought one for the family 2003 and remember how cool I thought it was. Living in Sweden big suv's like this was quite rare so it really stood out from the crowd with its epic styling and V8 rumble.
    Since he brought it we have traveld with all over Scandinavia and even Iceland. Sadly it was in a smal crash some time ago so need some love before it can be on the road again.

    I snagged a 2000 5.9L V8 Magnum with 115k miles. I'm very happy with the performance. It has a 21-22 gallon tank capacity and I'm able to squeeze 15mpg combined. She is thirsty but I love the v8. It has a few flaws being it's 24 yrs old now but I'm slowly fixing those and it makes me more proud everytime I do.

    That front grill always had such a happy look to it! With the turn signals below the headlights yet still in the housing, and the little smile on the bumper, and the overall rounded yet square look to it, combined with the typical raised suspension of SUVs, this whole truck just feels very cute, but still tough and cool! It pulls off being both a purpose built workhorse/family hauler and a cute friendly vehicle filled with personality almost flawlessly!

    My dad bought one of these in 2003. He gave it to me 7 years later with about 35,000 miles on it. I drove it till 2018 when it had 186,000 miles on it. My daughter drove it for a year and now my brother in law has it and it is still a great runner and a very comfortable ride.
    Major issues? Left exhaust manifold broke a bolt. Fix was about $2000 that was 6 years ago. No issues since.
    Two sets of Front Hubs of course and one new set of ball joints.
    One Left hand CV joint replacement.
    Steering Shaft U Joint replacement.
    Beyond that, it was brakes, oil, and tires. Couldn't get it stuck. Hauled everything I needed and pulled my trailer like it wasn't there.
    Of course when dad gave it to me he said "Son, this will pass anything but a gas station..." Boy was he right.
    I now have a 2011 Durango (picked it up 2 years ago with 14k miles on it, virtually showroom new) and all of the teething problems had already been fixed (ps pump, alternator, visors, fuel relay...) and so far has been an incredible vehicle.

      4.7 has it been reliable or has it given trouble and the transmission?

    • @jamesm.1467
      @jamesm.1467 Před 4 měsíci

      @@tonystylesofficial6844 Tony, that 4.7 is a heck of an engine and very strong for its size. Mine has been incredibly reliable all these years and I've had it since very late 2007 with barely just over 30k miles.
      I bought my first Durango which was a 2002 in 2005 used at a local Honda Dealership which was the two toned burgundy/grey one. It had like some 45k miles on it when I bought it. Fucking loved it, took it everywhere!!
      But unfortunately two years later, my neighbor up the street came home drunk one night and took the turn too wide and smashed the entire driver side.
      Needless to say it was total loss.
      My current one in, 2000 Durango Forest Green, I got it in like November of 2007 while I was home for awhile in Northern Idaho. Got it off of a trucker/military family who hardly drove it as they were never home, hence the very low miles.
      I scored on that one. I have driven it back and forth from Northern Idaho to my current location which one way trip is nearly 1400 miles one way.
      Now I am telling you this to show how long I've had a Durango with a 4.7L V8 engine. As for its reliability, I've never had ANY issues with it.
      But as of now, I have 185k miles on it and I think my head gasket is starting to go out. Although it is not over heating, but I'm starting to see possible oil deposits mixing in with my coolant.
      It may just be I need a new radiator as the one on it is the original and needs to just be replaced. I've flushed it out numerous times over the years and the last couple of years doing it, it's been draining out brown gunk.
      It's taking more coolant and I also think my water pump may be going out as well. It's burning oil and I need to replace the valve stem seals.
      But I just took it in a week and a half ago for service and they think also it's possible my head gasket me need to be replaced.
      But, as of all these years of owning it, the engine has NEVER given me any issues up until now with the above mentioned. Nothing wrong with the transmission, still running strong and it's the original as well.
      I'm only sad that I may have to replace the engine. That'd gonna cost me more then what it's worth, but it's my baby and I still love driving it. We'll see what I decide, haven't decided on either another used engine or a remanufactored engine.
      Hope this helps...

    I have a 99 with the 5.9L V8. They do have a classic design to them. I like how it is a truck based suv. Having a big V8 with solid body on frame construction makes it capable rig for towing. • @nonoiscool98
      @nonoiscool98 Před 3 lety +1

      Gas Mileage with the 5.9 is around 11 city 15 highway. Sometimes more or less is possible. Reliability isn't the best, but it is not British level of leaving you stranded. The biggest issue with these is transmissions. Mine has been rebuilt twice now, second time was just recent. Other than that engines are solid (if you get the 5.9 or 5.2), just do regular maintenance. Electrical issues can come up from time to time. That's the issues I have had to deal with oudside of normal wear and tear.

    We have a 2000 silver like this with a 4.7, it’s been pretty strong and it’s a slt with black interior, engine was rebuilt quite a while ago, when it only had like 60k miles, it’s at almost 160k miles now, so engine has about 100k, it’s stuck in 4wd high though, wish I had time and knowledge to fix it or get it fixed. Every time I put it in neutral and try to put it into 2wd I don’t feel it click and I’ll shift to drive or reverse and it won’t go, like it’s stuck in neutral, then I shift back to park and hear a pretty gnarly grinding noise, then when I shut the engine off it stops grinding and when I start back up everything is fine no grinding, but if I don’t put it back into 4wd high when I’m in park or the engine is off, it won’t go when in reverse or drive and will grind when in park again. Figured it could be a broke linkage or something wrong with the transfer case, but I honestly don’t know.
