Steve House from Moonshine Metalworks and Matt Stagmer team up to create this amazing two handed sword from the highlands. Could you do Connor McLeod's Katana from the first Highlander movie.
I would love to see some more armor of any historical period. One or two pieces of plate armor at a time to build a full plate set could be a great playlist
I've got to ask. Is this going to be used in the great Irish unification wars of 2024? It would be worthy weapon to be used for such a purpose.
Most excellent work as always.
create bloodlust , from lords of the fallen
Will there be a follow up video showing Conor doing something 🥜 with the sword??!! 😂
As an Irish man it was cool to see you honour our oldest known alphabet. Also the blade is stunning.
American here, I'm curious: how do the Irish feel about Conor McGregor? He's a phenomenal athlete and a savvy businessman, but he comes across as a bit of an arrogant douchebag. He lacks a certain humility and self-deprecating sense of humor that's so associated with the Irish. Makes me wonder how he's viewed in your fine country, considering he's one of the most well known contemporary Irishmen.
Side note, I've been blessed to have visited Ireland, and a more beautiful country and a nicer people I have yet to encounter. Sláinte.
@@cleverusername9369that's how the world sees americans
As an Irishman, Connor is a disgrace to our people. SO, theres that...

I use to watch Man at Arms and loved pretty much every project you all did. I’ve got to hand it to Ilya and Matt, they make so many cool things on this channel. They are true masters of their craft.
Beautiful sword! Would love to see Mr. McGregor receiving his gift
I am wondering why you would neglect to create a fuller on both sides of the blade given that this was the custom of the day, pretty much in every historical era including way back in Viking times. Any self-respecting “real” warrior would never take possession of a sword without fullers to aid entry of the steel into flesh, to channel blood flow out of the body thereby aiding the impending death through blood loss and most importantly to release pressure on the blade itself from the physical suction of the clinging flesh !
The creation of fullers was also an aesthetic issue whereby poetic writing, beautiful graphic designs, unique damascus patterns, the sword’s Maker’s mark, sanguine religious or cultural sayings were etched into the fullers of swords down through the centuries.
Sometimes, honorific titles or even deadly warnings appeared such as Widow Maker, Death’s Breath, Prosecutor, Holy Ghost, Sacred Trinity, Sangria de Christo, Ascension Spirit, Jesus Blood, Heart of Darkness, my Heart, the Hand of God, Burning Raptor, Durandal, Thunder Asunder, Dark Beowulf and the most famous of all ancient blades, Charlemagne’s exquisite “Joyeuse”. These names were bestowed on particular blades by proud warriors of all persuasions and etched forever in the sword’s fuller. It was typical that such swords became honoured treasures and many were spiritually transformed over time into mystic talismans and passed down from father to eldest son. Many became religious icons and even deified in some cultures by a particular ruling family or noble dynasty, by whole nations or quasi religious movement such. Holy scriptures were frequently etched onto particular swords ( e.g. Arabic verses from the Quran etched onto the now sacred sword of mighty Saladin ). For some prominent members of the nobility across Europe and the Arab world, a special “family dynasty sword” was commissioned which had their genealogical family trees embedded into the fullers on each side of the blade, one for the husband’s generational chart, the other for his wife’s family.
As a final example, it is worth noting that the most famous and ancient Viking sword unearthed to date is labelled “ULFBERT” in the fuller. It was made of high quality steel in Finland and the name “ULFBERT” appeared in large letters as a design logo etched into the fuller. All such swords were highly prized at the time and this is the first example of the use of trademark identification, probably for marketing purposes.
I have run out of PUFF….please explain why you have neglected to incorporate fullers into the otherwise brilliant sword design for Connor…..WTF….?

@@rogermunrovevo2376 all i saw was a whole bunch of YAPPING
@@rogermunrovevo2376 Tell me you don't know anything about bladesmithing without telling me you don't know anything about bladesmithing.
God the pattern on the blade is like nothing I've seen before. It almost looks like it was cut from stone in some places. Absolutely beautiful work.
Wow, that work's film quality has progressed so far from where it started. The sword looks amazing guys and so does the video!
Thank you! That means a lot!
@ThatWorks I've been following you guys since you were apart of man at arms you've come so far keep it up man
They made a good choice choosing you to make this. Your workshop is Legendary. I think you, Ilya, and the other people off screen hold more information, skill, and potential than any other bladesmithing company in the world. Genuinely, you guys are Legendary.
Once again Bilbo, you are too kind!
Matt, if you feel up to it, the short sword/dagger from the box art of the Legend of Zelda II for the NES would be epic.
I've never seen a build like it.
Feels like it's been a whole year since we've seen anything from That Works. 😂
It is fantastic to start the new year with an in depth build video from you guys!
Every detail makes this a truly special sword. I really appreciate your attention and your experience and skill. Nice of you to let Steve help.
I needed a forging video, and here it is!
What a great build! The blade is spectacular and the handguard, grip and pommel all avoid any straight lines, which is a nice asthetic i think.
It had better be good, I wouldn't want to piss off or disappoint Conor McGregor lol😂
Beautiful craftsmanship as always. The way the light reflects on the finished piece is stellar.
What a beautiful sword guys! Also I always truly enjoy Matt's mad belt sanding skills...been following it since Man at Arms days! Thanks for sharing!!
18:05 The way he rounded that pommel without a lathe is simple, yet brilliant!
Spin to win as the great Sam Salvati would say
@@ThatWorkshope you would do some project with sam, the guy is great
@@monkeking8604 Sam isn't the biggest fan of ours these days. I would be happy to work with him again though!
Where is Ilya?
Ukrainians got him fired probably
Ive been wondering the same.
lmao my comment got hidden which means it's probably true
Oof, I wonder what you said.@@Ahlurglgr
Genial como siempre un hermoso trabajo de herrería quien es el herrero nuevo don matt felicitaciones un trabajo de joyería 👍👍💪💪💪
Matt, absolutely stunning work, my friend. Holy chitt bro. The laddering, the handle, the etch, the pommel… each piece is amazing. 👏
Another amazing video. This one turned out beautifully and might be my favorite that you've been a part of. Also, cheers guys on the nice sponsorship this time, too. Pay them bills doing what you love!
True craftsmen. Attention to detail, pride in your work, and keeping an original trade going. Love it. Hope you get a lot of apprentice applicants
We want Ilya where is he?
Where is Ilya? :0
The waves in this are mind blowing. I could watch it move for hours. Great job, Matt!
Super happy to see that you guys are still in the game.
Edit: I am an aerospace welder but my dream is to be able to be a blacksmith/bladesmith.
What happened to Ilya? We haven't seen anything from him for at least a year.
OK, what happened to Ilya?
Great result. Gotta be honest though, I'm not sure I'd be inclined to give Connor MacGregor a sword. He's a bit erratic.
Also, Irish Claymore is a bit of a misnomer, kind of. The word itself was common to the Irish and the Highland Scots. The sword itself was mostly Scottish, though introduced to Ireland by Scottish mercenaries. The Irish and Scots had a habit of crossing one way or the other to fight as mercenaries. A more Irish sword would have had a ring pommel, possibly.
No video can express just how many hours go Into all that hand sanding, and how achy your entire body gets from it, great looking work!
Very true! I tried to give a decent idea with the video, but its hard to show two days of hand sanding in a couple mins.
It's always amazing to watch a master play his trade and create a beautiful weapon. But I wonder where his Slavic friend is.
is ilya still part of That Works team?
I think that's my favorite Damascus pattern y'all have ever made, great work!
The craft of Blacksmithing should never be forgotten. It is an essential ancient craft.
Awesome build! Turned out absolutely fantastic...
Huge MMA/UFC fan here. Conor mcgregor actually got me into my mma Career. And you guys got me into forging haha a cool back story is im actually related to robert the bruce king of the scotts and how he took scottish power back and the story behind it is wild asf! Hes actually like my 23rd great grandfather. Explains my thirst for combat sports and swords haha I love this youtube page you guys have. Better than any forge spot to watch.
That's some of the finest hand grinding I've ever seen ,that take's year after year of working the metal and using the tool's and the result is stunning!
God bless all the artisans and metal Wizard's
✝️
Thank you! You are right! Years and years!
That is a piece of art...you are a master of your craft.
I think it would be pretty cool to try something you would find challenging. To push your skill set even further! Releasing it like a Docu-series in parts, from inspiration and concept to finish
thank you for allowing those of us who watch this video to witness the birth of this sword. Much respect!
Watching you since you have the show with your brother man that’s probably the best sword of ever seen you make in terms of aesthetics great work man
Very nice looking blade. It has some real nice pattern wielded Damascus design in the blade
Absolutely gorgeous work, I would be si proud tp go into combat with such a blade, you did this work proud.
This is my new favourite sword build on CZcams! (Since the meteorite Damascus Eragon sword lol). This sword is perfect in every way Matt! Awesome!!
Well that is very kind! I'm glad you liked it!!!
I saw you comment on Will Stelters video and thought I'd check your channel. I'm glad I did, - this was an Epic build!!
The sword looks absolutely stunning! Amazing job you donee there Matt! Congratz!

I don't know how you made that filing contraption for the inside of the guard, but that is freaking awesome! Absolute genius bro!
Why no ilya
Connor’s quote here is literally just Michael Scott quoting Wayne Gretzky and calling it his own
No Van Gogh at all? I wonder how his name got attached to this?
This is astounding work, Matt. Bravo!
Also, this is the first video I have watched on this channel without Ilya. I hope he's doing well.
Happy New Year!
what happened to Ilya?
@@crashwelder5337 his instagram seems to show him in a different shop. last we know Matt said Ilya was moving. Nothing else since.
@@crashwelder5337 Nothing to my knowledge, but I hope everything is fine.
He has an active instagram with some killer projects on it, so maybe he's just focusing his attention in a different direction for the time being.
He has his own shop now.
Really amazing build. Well done!
beautiful work would have loved to see Conor's reaction when you presented it to him.
There will be more videos on this topic!
That is a very beautiful sword. Thanks for sharing, I'm hooked!
beautiful sword and pattern
Oh. My. That is an incredible sword!
Holy smokes, that's one beautiful sword! 🤯🫨
This build had that "man at arms" show feel to it. Well done to those that partook on this fine swords birth. I'll bet Connor will be absolutely amazed.
This is Beautiful work of Art Brother.
That's beautiful! Well done, Matt!
Absolutely beautiful blade.
P.S.- great looking sword! I love the grain pattern on the wrought iron guard. Great build!

This has been such an enjoyable watch! I'm half way in and have to compliment the production team, camera, edits, muisc, very well done. Obviously the blacksmithing is top notch too.
Matt the smith does the filming and editing himself. Thank you!
Such a beautiful sword that any family/clan would be proud of.
I'm super impressed that you pronounced Ogham properly, noone ever says it right. But then again you're great at a lot of stuff so I shouldn't be surprised
Thank you!
Blacksmithing/carpentry has and will continue to be my favorite trade and over all bad ass job/ career title. the skill patience and dedication to metal folding much respect, nothing like a good blade!! beautiful piece.

That sword is a beautiful work of art. It was a pleasure to watch it come into being.
Thank you!!!
Looking great 👍
Thanks
Sword be lookin' hella dope, @ThatWorks!
Wow absolutely badass and tough looking sword and you can tell it's very well balanced . Awesome job brother !!
I love the swort but to be honest i think they should have used a template to have the letters not all crooked in comparison with the unity and flow of the blade which is fantastic craftsmenship
We need a video of McGregor receiving this sword. Where is Illa?
"Draw your sword sire, and face me!"
"You'll do fookin nothin'"
Amazing work Matt !! Another beautiful creation!!!
Thank you brother! Let's make something together soon!
Outstanding, really exceptional. Bravo.
That is an awesome beautiful blade. Outstanding!
I'm here for the bladesmithing, even though I don't care for Conor at all and don't care about his drink. Hearing all the talk about honoring the McGregor name and making them proud blah blah was quite hilarious. The way he's behaved over the years definitely did the opposite.
The sword is sweet, as usual. I bet it's a chunk, but a balanced chunk.
Well said!
It is very well balanced. Although it's a big blade, it's hollow ground so it's deceivingly light in the hands.
Awesome job Matt!!
Amazing Work Matt
Awesome work, you guys should definitely try to get this to him.
WELCOME BACK!!!! AMAZING WORK!!
The quality of your videos has progressed a lot and I enjoy them every time. Although I must say, that the blade this time was especially stunning. I love the pattern and overall design. Keep it up and much appreciation from Hamburg!
Thank you so much! They say your first 100 videos suck, so I should be just about ready to not suck anymore ;)
love the jig that holds the file, never seen that
Beautiful work.
Holy cow, you knocked it outta the park with this one!
I love watching people work, that actually truely cares about their craft, because these people really is, a dying breed these days. Thank you so much for sharing your craft.
Thank you so much for sharing your comment! Means a lot to us!
Excellent job Matt!
Beautiful work!!
@thatworks dude I am so pumped for you man. What an honor to make that sword for him. I’m stoked your back, after that hacking deal I was worried you might not be back. I love the work as always!
We are back! More builds and other videos coming soon!
