    ABOUT THIS ADORABLE CROCHET BABY BLANKET:
    * This crochet blanket made with a baby in mind - there are no huge holes like many crochet baby blanket patterns have for baby’s fingers to get caught in and yet it is still lightweight and breathable.
    * You can adjust the number of starting chains to make the blanket bigger or smaller.
    * While many baby blanket patterns are more feminine, this is a perfect crochet blanket for a baby boy or a gender-neutral/unisex baby gift (but would also be great for a baby girl).
    * You can use any size 3 yarn (also referred to as DK or Light Worsted).
    * The blanket is completely reversible and looks beautiful on either side.
    SKILL LEVEL:
    I’ve tried to make the video as thorough as possible and beginner-friendly. The actual pattern is considered intermediate but hopefully with the step by step video, you can find the pattern easy to follow.
    SIZE
    The final blanket following this pattern and using the yarn listed below creates a blanket that is 30” (76 cm) high x 40” (102 cm) wide. To adjust the width, increase or decrease the number of starting chains in multiples of 2 (an even number of starting chains).
    MATERIALS
    Yarn: Any size 3 (light) yarn. You’ll need 1500 m / 1640 yds. I used Bernat Baby Sport in Baby Blue (which is 100% Acrylic, 12.3 oz / 350g).
    Crochet Hook Size: H/8 (5.00mm)
    Other materials: scissors, yarn needle & a measuring tape

    Why do so many people who do crochet tutorials start with the chain in the back loop of the chain. It looks so easy when they do it but even when I use a larger hook that is so hard for me. I have been crocheting for more than 20 years so not new but this is new to me.

    • @jototheworldcreations
      @jototheworldcreations  Před rokem +4

      Hi Teresa, it’s a good question. I always try to design my baby blankets to not have to work into the back ridge loop of the chain but then in some cases, like this blanket pattern, when I get to the border, there’s a large unwanted gap that in my opinion throws the whole thing off and creates large holes that I don’t like for baby blankets. I then try the design again with working into the back ridge loop of the chain and there isn’t a gap so the finish piece looks much better and has less holes. Whenever I can, I try to not work in the back ridge loop because I know it’s not the easiest thing to do. For example, my Simple Baby Blanket doesn’t work into the back loops but that works for that pattern. But for this one, I do recommend it. I also chain quite loosely which seems to help a lot with working into the back loop on Row 1. I hope this helps! Happy crocheting. 😀

    • @jenniferhuff2566
      @jenniferhuff2566 Před 8 měsíci +2

      I agree it’s harder but it makes the bottom look so neat especially if you aren’t going to do a border ❤

      It annoys me too 👍

    • @Michelle_Mayo
      @Michelle_Mayo Před měsícem

      I use the top (or, technically, back) loop rather than the bottom bump. It gives a similar look and it's a lot easier to put your hook through. I use that technique because my chains are always tighter than my foundation row, making it look wonky when I use both loops. Try a sample with both versions, see which you like better! 💕

      The overall look may be slightly different but you are welcome to try! If you do that, you may want to increase your number of chains at the beginning of the row of accommodate the dc being the first stitch so instead of making a ch 1, you would make a ch 3 and then dc (note that some people prefer a ch 2 or a ch 4 if the first stitch is a dc). Hope this helps!

      Hi there! All my patterns are designed and tested with the yarn weight and hook that is listed in the pattern. You are welcome to try something else but the size, overall look and feel of your finished item as well as the amount of yarn required may be different.

    Hello
    This is Rita again
    I have a question, all the blankets you have is with the number 3 light weight yarn n I was wondering if you can do them with 4 medium weight yarn instead ?
    You have some beautiful blankets I love to make n buy the 6 bundle blankets but I like to do them in 4 weight yarn.
    Please let me know ASAP so I can purchase them, if I can do them in 4 worsted weight yarn?
    Thanks 😊
    For being so patient with me n I appreciate all u are doing
    Rita

      Hi Rita, for the patterns where I recommend using size 3 yarn, they were designed and tested using size 3 yarn. You are of course welcome to try different yarn weights but the overall look, feel and size of the blanket may be different. For example, if you use worsted weight (size 4) yarn, your blanket may be heavier, stiffer and the stitches may be tighter. You would also need more yarn to complete the pattern and it would be a larger size.
      If you are looking for baby blanket patterns using Size 4 (Medium) yarn, you may like these (they all have video tutorials):

    Do you have to begin the blanket in the back bumps? I struggle with that so much!

    • @jototheworldcreations
      @jototheworldcreations  Před 5 měsíci

      Working into the back ridge loops/back bumps prevents a large hole/gap between the first row and the border. The only difference between working into the top loop of the chain and the back ridge loop is where to insert your hook. I highly recommend trying to work in the back loop/bump as I find the blanket looks so much nicer without a large gap between the body and the body. Maybe I just got used to the Classic Baby Blanket I recently finished but wow does this 5mm hook go slowly! I love the fabric this pattern makes though, so it’s definitely going to be completed but it just never seems to grow. Anyone else?
    UPDATE: only took 10 days to finish the body of the blanket (with tennis elbow). Not bad. Nervous to do border but it looks so cool.

    How much yarn did you use?

    • @jototheworldcreations
      @jototheworldcreations  Před 2 lety

      Approx 1500m. I used one and a quarter skein of the economical big ball size of Bernat Baby Sport in Baby Blue (100% Acrylic, 12.3 oz / 350g, 1500 meters/1370 yards). This is a light (3) yarn. You can substitute with your favorite light (3) yarn. Light weight yarn is also referred to as DK or Light Worsted.

    Hello, if you use 130 chains make sure to chain 1 before starting... this will leave you with 2 ending chains.

    • @jototheworldcreations
      @jototheworldcreations  Před měsícem

      Hello! You start the blanket by making 130 starting chains. You don’t need to make any extra chains than that.
      For the first row, you will start in the second chain from the hook and single crochet and single crochet in each stitch cross. That leaves you with 129 single crochet stitches at the end of the first row. You shouldn’t have any chains left over. Then ch 1 and turn. But the chains do not count as stitches and never get worked into.
      For the second row, you’ll work into the first stitch and make a single crochet and double crochet in the same stitch. Then skip the next stitch. You will repeat this all the way across until there is one stitch left. In the last stitch, she will make one single crochet stitch. You will have 129 stitches. Then ch 1 and turn.
      Hope this helps!

      Thanks for your interest in this pattern!
      I have designed and tested this blanket using Size 3 (Light) yarn. Using a different yarn weight can sometimes significantly change the size, look and feel of the design as well as the amount of yarn required. You may find that using Size 4 (Medium) yarn creates a blanket that is heavier, thicker and more dense. And it may change the size, look and feel of the design as well as the amount of yarn required. I personally prefer a lightweight yet still cozy, airy blanket that flows nicely for a baby blanket.
      With all that said, you are welcome to try it! Perhaps you are looking to make a thicker blanket for a stroller or carseat and in that case, using a size 4 yarn makes complete sense. I unfortunately can't provide recommendations for what hook size to use or how much yarn you'll need as this blanket was designed and tested using Size 3 (Light) yarn.
