I think you nailed it. If you have the time and expertise to fix it ,Can Am is not a bad unit. But to the average person, this would be at a dealer for a month and cost a fortune to fix.
This was a good video. I'm trying to hunt down the same problems encountered here on my son's 1000. Course, its working perfectly, but wasn't on his Hatfield McCoy trip. I'm guessing its plastic rubbed wires and a corroded kill switch. When things work in the heat of day, but not in the morning, there's a bad wire/ground that's not happy. subbed.
I just found this and just started having the exact issue you describe. Doesn’t want to crank in the morning or after sitting awhile but I play with it and mess with the start button and it eventually works. But when it’s warm, starts every time
My Can am 2015 xT going into limp mode, has E code coming up ....thinking its down around the area by the right foot you pointed out in your Video....not sure what the wires are hooked up to....would you know
My Rene is at the best mechanic around and he has tried everything. Go to start it it’s fires 2/3times and coils stops send power. New coil pack, wires, plugs, crank pos sensor, tried new ecm, ecm goes to start up and then shuts downs . Mech said it had to be in the harness
I vote you get and build either a pioneer 1k or maybe a new talon. I think you said it best that if you have the knowledge to fix a Can-Am they can be reliable however the fact remains that you still have to fix what the factory must up, fresh out of the box.
I wonder if can am watches mud puppy videos and makes improvements to their quads?...probably not a bad idea for them to check this stuff out and fix it and also it seems to me that all Yamaha needs to do is put a 1000cc power plant on their grizzly and can am might really have some trouble but I don’t know what do you think.
Same thing happened to me 3 wires going to my kill and start and everything switch had 3 cut wires by the harness and it killed my fourwheeler under water
Never seen so many problems on a can am. I had an outlander xmr for 3 years had over 3k miles on it and it lived 90% of its life in red mud from top trails and the only problem I had out of it was u joints because I didnt grease them and the rear def seal because that things a joke. It leaked from day 1. Even had factory wheel bearings when I sold it and factory belt. Never had an electrical issue at all.
That's the problem with building stuff in Mexico with shit quality controls. Some stuff turns out okay but a lot of it is put together pretty sloppy. Mine has a brand new rear diff and got a tad bit of water in it last ride... pathetic
You know your bike was built in Mexico right? The fact that some can ams are built decent and some are sloppy as hell tells you something... no matter how you slice it.
I dont do any heavy mud riding but I have 8000k on my 12 g2 800r and the worst issue is the cheap warm winch they put on them can am reapaced it 2 and every time I'd get stuck it wouldn't even pull me out lol
Yea I am not impressed with the warm wench for the money you pay for one they are cheap. The inner plate for free wheel bends easy so unless I absolutely need to use freeswheel I avoid it if possible cause they will get stuck and won’t come back in.
Can't stand my Can Am Renegade and I just bought it. I can tell it will be constant work. Not having it at all. Going to sell it immediately and get out of the nightmare that is Can Am ATV's.
@@MudPuppyOffroad Let's say that attention to detail is an after tought on can am and polaris. I moved from a Honda to a sportsman. Let's talk about a difference in fit and finish.
I got a 700R Yamaha Raptor I wanted to jump into something different because I'm 43 years old but I'll tell you one thing Can-Am is not for me not for that kind of money way too expensive if you have to fix stuff all the time and you are not the only one on CZcams Believe Me I did my research I got 87 hours on my Yamaha Raptor 700R 2018 I only did rear brakes front brakes and rear tires basically maintenance the only repair I got coming up is the chain and sprockets which is also maintenance you have to do that every hundred hours
Never had any problem till the sh- neighbors started to mess with it then I’ve had a bunch of bogus seals start leaking because the neighbors messed them up with a razor blade
New rear diff, leaking front output shaft. Visco lok didn’t even make an attempt to lock up in other video( didn’t even make noise like it was trying) Electrical has no seals and hasn’t had no di-electric grease to repel water and mud which has let to visual corrosion in the key plug. Tires wore down. Engine running rough at low rpms. And what kind of Mileage does this abused, untaken care of, sad monster have? This is the only belt drive wheeled toy I would even consider but a USED machine that’s been water logged? Why new Honda’s and old renegade? Compression test the engine or do a cylinder leak test? That would explain some low rpm issues.
Can-Am is just crap. this bike has pretty low miles and very low hours and I know the guy I bought it from and it's never really been in any deep mud. The ignition on these things is a known problem that can am finally went away from. I'm getting the ECU reprogrammed to not need the d e s s signal.
I think you nailed it. If you have the time and expertise to fix it ,Can Am is not a bad unit. But to the average person, this would be at a dealer for a month and cost a fortune to fix.
I could not figure out why my headlights wouldn't work, watched your video and had wires chafed in the same area. Thanks alot for your video
"Had the same problem on my Honda" Said no one ever
Chris G. I had the same problem on my Yamaha Grizzly said me
Chris G. “My Honda got a lot of power” said no one ever
Cat Jack me today doing a 4th gear wheelie haha
@@catjackoff-road855 its honda power. Very different from can am power but they still have power

New subscriber and based off this video I'm glad I found your channel
Loving the can am videos I have a 17 Outlander 570 XMR and my fiancé has an 18 Sportsman 850 HL
how had the outlander been?
U finally got one 😄

How did you run the wires instead of bunching them back up
What do you think of the x3’s

Hmm we got a Renegade with the exact same issues in the shop right now
So when I turn my key to the on side nothing turns on such as the dash, lights, wont crank or anything and it doesn’t have spark any idea why?

Planning on getting a p1k to replace my rzr... Once they get the talon lower reverse gears

Grizz needs lower gears and 15 more hp
How did you remove the plastic causing under the seat ? I need to get at my starter solenoid to change it out.
It's a huge pain in the ass I've used to pull the rear fender to do it
That is ridiculous. I thought this was supposed to be a mud bike.
My Polaris Soprtsman 850 is a wiring nightmare too
Worst part being non copper brittle wiring. Ive gone over mine with quality electrical tape. Plenty of rubbing points I fixed.
Same thing happened to me 3 wires going to my kill and start and everything switch had 3 cut wires by the harness and it killed my fourwheeler under water
everyone i know in the can am fam is also an expert at rebuilding diffs too haha. still BRP to baby (Beats Riding a Polaris) ..lol
Should’ve bought my can am
My outlander is the same problem
I did lots of resurch before buying my quad a cost vs reliability and ended up buying a brute force 300 crap am was not on my radar
you should be a can am test rider.
James Parus they have to have problems to make can am more money
Naw canam fanboys said he sucked and was biased
Do a video on the new talon. Your thoughts. Go check one out.
Gear that too high no front locker
Braydon price shouted you out
That why I'm staying with Honda
So was this gade stock when you bought it?for this thing to be a xmr "extreme mud racing" there are so many poor designs
100% stock and original

Now have a commander and it has 2300 miles on it no problems besides a new battery. It lives its life in the mud also.

I never had this problem with my Honda wtf
My can am is not like that. Super clean wiring. Just depends on who built your unit. I build peterbilts, trucks are the same way.
You know your bike was built in Mexico right? The fact that some can ams are built decent and some are sloppy as hell tells you something... no matter how you slice it.
They are made in a variety of places, they aren’t all built in Mexico
site your sources...
I've worked on a lot of candy yams and I've owned two everything is stamped made in Mexico or made in China
Scrambler 1k next lol

The joy of buying used... used mud bikes at that. Ive buyed a used atv once, never again.
The issue was cause by poor assembly and wire routing... Thanks Mexico

Compression is fine and the issue is very intermittent it's definitely electrical

stay out of water if you don't like fixing things !
Lol water didn't cut the wire harness... And it's a factory snorkeled quad... The whole point is to be able to drive in water
Lol I love fixing things so much I bought a can am
