- So who is the RACCOON WHISPERER? James Blackwood of Pictou County Nova Scotia.
Here’s 3 things we love and respect about him:
Number 1:
James exemplifies the profound truth that in giving, we receive. By graciously providing an array of food to his wild raccoons, James experiences so much joy and fulfillment in return.
Number 2:
James generously passes his joy onto us by sharing his adorable raccoon encounters through his You Tube Channel. Many people have had an exaggerated fear of these wonderful animals, through his interactions James shows the loving, playful, and curious nature of these creatures…helping turn people’s FEAR into LOVE.
Number 3:
James educates by dispelling common misconceptions about raccoons, especially rabies.
For example, just because a raccoon is out during the day doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong with it, it’s often a nursing mom who needs more foraging time. So let’s try to be more compassionate in how we treat these animals.
Also, many times the raccoons who are acting strange have a disease called feline distemper, which does not spread to humans, but because the symptoms look like rabies, people label these cases as rabies, which only spreads the fear.
Additionally, rabies is often very RARE. Many locations and climates don’t have rabies.
Consider this: How long have you been alive? How many people do you know of who died of rabies? Comparatively, how many people do you know of who have perished in an automobile accident, or as a result of taking prescription medications?
Let’s be better at using wise discrimination when it comes to spreading fear.
Let’s apply wise caution instead of irrational, exaggerated, or misplaced fear.
Let’s not jump to harsh and reckless persecution which could lead to the harming and mistreatment of innocent animals.
Let’s not be BABIES when it comes to RABIES.

Despite what people think about trash pandas, they literally wash their food, hands and they bathe

Raccoons are adorable and super intelligent. We feed about 10 of them every night! And they all have different personalities, mostly they're super hungry every night. Their eyes are so sad when they want food, heartbreaking.
Because of James, I do the same for the raccoons around my home.
Awesome, I’m helping a Raccoon family in my backyard, 1 mother, I think the father and 3 babies. Real nice creatures, they like cat food a lot!
I love raccoons !!!❤❤❤ I've been feeding them for over 35 years !! Some are very sweet and gentle, some not so much, lol. But we look forward to dinner time every evening ! ❤❤

Used to watch and love his channel and couldn't wait to see and hear him.
His voice is so soothing I would look forward to hear him.
Well I made a comment about him almost sitting on Sammy, (My favorite Raccoon) jokingly, but it did almost happen a couple of times and he trashed me on the next show!!
Next thing I know he banned me. It really hurt me bc I enjoyed him. I was so sad and I had purchased his book and read it when I was recovering from shoulder surgery
I didn't realize until i was noticing no one was answering my comments and I usually got a lot of replies. Then I figured out I was banned. No explanation, No 3 strike...NOTHING.
As a test, I used another of my profiles to connect and the same thing happened. He went as far as deleting my IP Adress to make sure I'd never be able to contact or connect to his channel again. I have to admit I was pretty pissed off. I didn't do or say anything terrible or disrespectful to Jim.
I figured out it had to be my comment about Sammy bc I'd never say anything bad about him. That had to be it. if you don't agree with him or say something he doesn't like he'll IMMEDIATELY drop you.
He's mentioned on his show he'll drop anyone who he feels doesn't "respect" him.
Jim is all right only if you're praising him, agreeing with him, stroking his ego and being his acolyte sad to say.
I hadn't checked on the channel in a while and when I did recently is when I heard he was very sick and I was surprised and concerned.
I wish him well and hope for a speedy recovery.
I have noticed that he is hypersensitive, too. I haven't watched in a while, probably washed a couple of episodes when he and Angie got married. I think his cancer is either intestinal cancer or bowel cancer, but I'm not 100% sure. They think it's operable

Didn't know he was sick. Tho I was suspicious. He just didn't look healthy when I was on there. I didn't know he was married either
The show i watched was old and he apparently went to KFC for dinner and OUT OF CONCERN a person made a comment about it not being healthy with his condition. You would have thought the poor person said something terrible to him. This person CARED about him!
He whined about that too..she was dropped as well. A matter of fact, his followers are now telling him to drop ppl! Yeah, wait until it's your turn...
There's nothing worse than a whining man.
I hope everything works out for him. It's a terrible thing what he's going through. At least he has someone to take care of him and having someone you love around you works wonders.
@daftoptmst indeed. He had a heart condition, and now it's cancer. I notice that when the marriage happened, some of his devoted followers dropped out. I'm not on Facebook, but apparently those who are had some conversations about it and some didn't think it wise for him to marry. Regardless, his life, his decision, glad he's not going through it alone

@danielbecerra669 It depends on the raccoons. If they love him so much that they build a statue of him, who are we to complain? As long as it's not offensive, it's all good! If you don't like it, I would recommend talking to the raccoons as they don't have access to CZcams to see the comment section.
Definitely a nursing mom that does it. I have one around my house.
How can you be afraid of a raccoon unless you have had a bad encounter with one? Heck, I’m not even afraid of bears, I just respect them enough to be very polite from a distance.

They are so adorable to watch. This one is quite a character indeed.
My wife and I feed and water the wildlife on our property. The raccoons, while still wild, will approach and take food from our hands. We even have possums that venture close enough to touch. We don't touch or try to pet any of them (as much as we want to). They're very smart and have started banging on our door at night to let us know they're ready to eat.
Hope you give them healthy stuff. They're the best little masked bear critters. 😊🦝

James Blackwood currently has the babies visiting, and the last few videos have begun with the babies literally crawling the screen on the door trying to get some treats!😅
I help the neighborhood racoons sometimes with food, originally it was just leftovers put out during winter, when they appeared hungry and food was scarce. Especially since you can tell if they're nursing. Eventually it became just whenever, like the other night i woke up to use the bathroom, and i heard a noise outside the window. It was one of the baby racoons chirping and they looked like they'd been out there waiting for a while. So i scrounged up a little care package of fruit and stuff i thought would be 'healthier' like. You could hear the munching sounds as they circled around it eating. They ate and went off somewhere after.
Mostly feed them cat food. They love dog and cat treats. They get leftovers of whatever us and our neighbors had for dinner. People know that we feed the critters and constantly give us bags of fruit and garden veggies (they hate tomatoes). We have a dorm-size fridge that’s usually stocked with animal friendly foods.

I remember whenninfirs saw james channel. I had no idea racoons could be so chill. I always assumed they were viscious until then so your right he definitely is passing on helpful info about them. Honestly the whole story about why he does it is so heart breaking. His wife is definitely proud of him though
Yeah it's so annoying how people I know seem to assume that all raccoons have rabies. They say, "Don't go near it! It might have rabies!" When it's obviously a healthy raccoon just begging for some of our food.

Raccoons are underappreciated and undervalued little creatures.
We have 4 to 6 raccoons , few possums & couple stray cats show up each night to grab a bite to eat. Sometimes all at the same time!

Thanks for talking about the feline distemper. I feed raccoons outside and I also have 3 cats. I will be careful not to touch the raccoons, just in case. But I'll keep feeding them. I think they are so cute. More research is needed regarding the spread of feline distemper.

Always enjoyed his program, not just while he feeds racoons but also deer in winter. Not to mention, Connor the cat and his love of Tim Hortons' doughnuts and his other cat Charlotte. Glad to see he remarried a lady who brings her own cats and love of racoons.
