It's the Spacemen 3 / Microdisney / McCarthy supergroup we didn't deserve but got anyway! Love this version!
I watched this on the night it came out, had never heard of them. Thought it was the best thing I had heard in a long time. It's still up there
R.I.P. Mary ❤️
💔😢
Thanks I didn't know.
20 years ago... One can't forget.
I still remember her live so alive and cute like a bundle of daisies freshly picked. So grand her feelings through voice remains forever for our ears and hearts
❤️ forever and ever and ever
RIP Mary Hansen. Thanks for the memories.
yes 😪😪😪😪
Indeed...she is missed
Left a big hole Mary passing but I’m glad the band never tried to replace her as I don’t think they would have..
R I P Mary❤️
I ferviently love this band! ❤🔥😭
It's like 5 different songs coming together in perfect harmony.
So many emotions watching this. Bitter sweet joy, nostalgia, melancholie. Mary lives on in the music and it's truly enriched my life. Thank you.
Not fun fact : Mary, my friend Jenson, and I were all hit by vehicles on bicycles that year. Jenson was paralyzed from the waist down, I have a metal left leg, and we know what happened to Mary unfortunately.

This band "saved" the 90s for me. ❤ Steriolab 4ever.
Been going on the stereolab CZcams rabbit hole for over a decade now and I always enjoy it
Beautiful sound by an incredible band. Stereolab is timeless and forever.
1996. Such good times. I wish I enjoyed it more at the time. I was always looking ahead.
Mais comment j'ai pu passer a côté de ce groupe dans kes années 90 !
How lucky we have this BBC live performance with its faultless sound and vid capturing this lineup from 1996 their live sound was like nothing else i cant believe this is 25 years old sounds amazing now still
Love how everyone is rediscovering them
that futuristic space sound - that's what we miss and need from the 90s. 90s nostalgia! This band made my 90s life
I always loved their drummer. Such a simple driving force, but it just works.
i put another layer of love to those comments. Stereolab you are a fantastic band !
Mary, always missed and beloved by us all xxx
I saw them live in Central Park in Manhattan in 1995 and they were absolutely brilliant to watch. They just grooved so naturally together and sounded like absolute Angels when they sang ❤️
I was there, it was a banger show and I got a photo with Tim.
I had the immense pleasure to see them live here in Madrid last sunday. I'm still a bit hangover for what it easily was the best gig I've seen in my life. Absolutely mesmerizing performance. They're genius!
Ha! I was there too. On one of my only trips to NYC. I was giggling through most of the gig. The music was such an incredible pisstake.
What a under rated group they are great
Magnificent work from the Camera Operators
Yup gives everyone their shine
They wrote this song for us and yet, here we are, repeating the cycle with the lesson unlearned
If I have to show only ONE single thing to someone who wants to know what Stereolab is - I show them this. Quintessential.
Sonic Boom in the house! Splitting the Atom(s). I saw them play with him and Sean O'Hagan (on pedal steel?!) at Reading one year around this time. Saw the Groop countless times in London, including one surprise showing at the Garage where they turned up unannounced (maybe before E.A.R.), played Metronomic Underground for 30 mins exactly (they had a clock on stage) and promptly left. R.I.P. Mary, it was never the same without her, but what could be done, they still had lots of great music in them.
Is that Sonic Boom in the back?!?
If anyone had to play one piece of recorded music to show someone what Stereolab was, and there Greatness, I would choose this one here.
I'd choose whichever track I was listening to at that moment. So yes, I agree, this one.
wow... this vid is nuts. Amazing that this is now history. I hope that everyone in the world watches this someday
Isn't it amazing
This is one of the few Stereolab videos I'm still allowed to view on CZcams.
and its 25 years old
So amazing! This song was written in the depths of the neoliberal 90’s. It definitely helped me understand the wars of the 2000’s. I hope that some people may draw something from this song to make sense of the 2020’s which will see much conflict between the US, China, and other countries.
Well put and I totally agree. Check out "Nocturnal Operations" by Orbidoig, that song fits your description here as well.
The intro is eargasmic!
This band changed the trajectory of my musical pallet and....my life.
this is a quarter of a century old the bbc caught this in pre hi def for us to c now
Im still so in a secret crush/Love with Mary. One day I will hear her voice and spirit through again. These memories are timeless beautiful
love that ETK spiral hanging from the ceiling
I remember buying Peng! when it came out and listening to it on repeat for days with my first CD player in Austin- I was 21 and Stuck on Stoopid 💉
So happy and amazed that at 51, that I am alive, clean and have the pleasure of hearing you perform again at the Ogden in Denver in a couple weeks! 🖤❤
Magnifique! Super groupe. I love this song. RIP Mary
So melodic and somehow understated. Goosebumps.
Man. Love Stereolab.
Had a really random thought while watching this: if you plopped in Beethoven or Mozart onto that stage next to Stereolab, I really wonder what they would make of it. Esp. all the knobby high tech keyboards that I'm sure they would toy with quite naturally (Beethoven can still hear in this scenario). I think they'd have come out with some pretty far out stuff after a week of playing with those Moogs. And their collab with Stereolab would have been far out! haha
Outstanding thought lad
Mozart would have dug it.
just the most wonderful band ever. met Laetitia in Brussels about 15 years ago, a delight! she signed a CD for me and added a quote from Marx 😁
I love Stereolab
I still miss Mary...
Andy Ramsey is f****** awesome
Always loved this album
well done Jools, you always know who the best artists are at any given time and in any sphere of creative musical artists
Thank you Jools Holland. For fucking nothing other than refusing to go away.
saw em in seattle a year ago...wish i could remember more🤭
What a nice little music for my ears, love it.
Yes! Please upload as many live performances as possible!
Siempre acompaño mis días con su música ❤️
2:02 this shot is amazing
Saw them play the Fillmore for this album. It is one of my favorite albums of the 90s.

MOOG synth developed in Trumansburg NY in his basement. Made for scifi movie sound effects but later adopted and used for music.

From London and Paris ... oh .. and Maryborough ... Australia
this is perfect this is music, this is sound not branding, not visual, not trend, not sexual; this is music, this is sound; and everything else are just distraction
Fantastic. Thanks
I love sonic boom and this album, transient being my favorite but sometimes i think they recycled the same formula on the songs that its a little bit a negative thing but here they are amazing
Real music
Love this
bump October 2023 :(
Fabulous!
I want to learn more about the bubble machine instrument player all those blips and drips I want to watch him do it
Beautiful...
beautiful
Marxish Chinpokemon for hipsters, perhaps. But also, the Beatles of the 90's. Gorgeous harmonies. Ambitious suites. Clairvoyant lyrics. The best albums of that era. My favorite band.
Really excellent 90s sound, one of the best of that post-80s period.
Their work still holds up today. Still sounds as fresh and new as it did when it came out in the mid 90's which is weird because they cribbed from a number of musical genres who had long since been considered dead when they hit their stride.
One of my favorite bands of all time, so I don’t listen to the words so I can keep enjoying it as a passionate anti communist.
Marxism never sounded so good. Comrrade.
@@Twin_solo_az Same here! But even the lyrics can be quite beautiful sometimes.
Awesome sauce from l.a california
Jam, so good.
Uber euro cool! Bless!

I love it somehow because it's too nice lyrics
Sonic Boom!
WoW They Go beyond Prefab Sprout and still remind me of Paddy McAloon magical sound
whoa is that a serge paper face synthesizer I spy in the back??
Is that Sean O'Hagan (Microdisney, High Llamas) on the far right ?
yes
Loved listening to this track until I read the comments. Very sad to learn Mary died in a cycle accident RIP
ok now we can fight

This is new to me. I like it good tune! Would like to see the words to this? And Which one is Mary?
green dress, red hair, tambourine
You had no idea how good they became, like from nowhere and boom!
Laetitia was the impressive looking, Morgane is the wholesome blonde and Mary was the cutest with ginger hair and voice like a sweet angel she was. She died too young, same age as Marilyn and all the great romantic poets
❤️❤️❤️ Mary
"Three cheers for Moondog Night ..."
🎧🎶😑❤️
Someone knows what pedal was Tim using in that show? 😭
Is that Tim with his back to the crowd?
So cool
is that pete kember from spacemen 3?
Yep
