Inside Season 3's game changing episode "The Rains of Castamere". Catch new episodes of season 3 on Sunday nights at 9PM.
Game of Thrones is an original HBO series based on George R.R. Martin's best-selling novels. In a world where summers span decades and winters can last a lifetime, the crown of Westeros comes with a price. Betrayal, lust, intrigue and supernatural forces shake the four corners of the Kingdom, from the scheming south and the savage eastern lands, to the frozen north and the ancient Wall that protects the realm from the darkness beyond. Kings and queens, knights and renegades, liars and noble men vie for power in the bloody struggle for the Iron Throne.

I would have believed in the notion of no happy ending if they killed Arya. The show would have ended for most people. The entire show is built on 4 characters. Daenarys, Jon, Arya and Sansa. None of these 4 will die a senseless death if HBO wants to keep their fans and gain more fans even after the series is done. Everything revolves around the Starks and Daenarys. The entire plot with Kingslanding and the Sparrows was a total failure. Kingslanding lost value when Sansa and Tyrion left. Tomon was boring.Daenarys and Mereen, Sansa and the Boltons, Jon and the Wildling made the season interesting.

Roose Bolton, a sworn bannermen to the stark who betrayed Robb and murdered him, betrayed and murdered by his own son.
Walder Frey, who deceived the starks by breaking bread with them and then murdering them, deceived by what he thought was his hand maiden, and his throat slit, just as catelyns throat was slit.

+Horace Warfield Just because something is someone's fault, it doesn't mean they deserve...this. Catelyn is an amazing character and gets way too much hate from the fanbase. Her chapters in the books really prove this. She's more human than anyone else and she acts on a mix of emotion and reason. She goes through a lot and loses a lot, and she's just a very well written character.

I think the cast is absolutely phenomenal but there are 2 actors in the entire show across all 7 seasons which have brought me out of the trance that this is in fact a show and not a portal into a different world: Emilia Clarke and Gendry (don't know what the actor's name is). Literally the only 2. It just sucks that one of them has to be such a vital part of the show.
P.S. I adore Emilia Clarke as a person, not so much as an actress.

One thing you have to give George RR Martin and the TV writers(more the TV as Robb married more for honor than love in the book) credit for is that they don't buy into cliches. In fiction one of the greatest cliches is that love will conquer all. You can make the most moronic decisions...but because you do it for love you will be rewarded. This show illustrates...if you make a bad decision even if it is for love it will have consequences.

We look at Lord of the Rings as a "heroes are going to win" thing in retrospect. Most people are spoiled by the movies and LotR already being ingrained in pop-culture before they got into it. But there was plenty of unexpected and unpredictable moments in LotR. Boromir's death, the fall of Gandalf, scourging of the Shire, Arwen and Aragorn's doomed romance, how enduring the pain of the Morgul blade and bearing the Ring was so much for Frodo that he had to leave his loved ones behind to sail for the Undying Lands, and how for a good chunk of the books you're convinced Frodo really is dead from Shelob and the job lies solely on Sam. The passage of Sam thinking Frodo is dead and taking up the Ring himself is more heartbreaking than anything in GoT, not to talk down on GoT.
Then there's the works outside of the main LotR books, the Shakespearean tragedies of the Sil and Unfinished Tales and specifically Children of Hurin which out Game of Thrones GoT decades before it existed. Incest, murder, betrayal, torture, the bad guys always getting the upperhand, the complete downfall of the main character and his entire family. It's such a depressing book that I don't really have the desire to ever read it again. So I think Tolkien is owed a little more respect than he's given as far as the topic is concerned. While the heroes did win in LotR, it didn't come without great cost and sacrifice.

I told him that Frodo was just as weak as Smeagol, it's pretty horrifying but at mt doom, everything was honestly lost. Right there, Frodo decided to keep the ring and he woulda gotten away if not for Gollum. In that sense Frodo is no different from Gollum. The ring is a craving

I agree that Robb made a stupid mistake and broke a "sacred" vow, but it's a bit much to say he deserved to have his pregnant wife stabbed to death, his soldiers slaughtered, his mother murdered, and then his own assassination. Plus, Walder Frey broke an actual "sacred" right - the guest right. Ten times worse than Robb skipping out on marriage.

Could it be said that A Song of Ice and Fire is now the greatest fantasy work of all time? I've never seen something fictional affect so many people in this way. Even the Harry Potter series, Lord of the Rings, and Star Wars couldn't effect anyone I know like this show, or the books have.

The books 3 contains so many clues about the Red wedding. Right from the start of Book 3 you get the feeling that something something is going to happen but you can't seem to put your finger on it until it happens.
Lord Tywin says this on multiple situations - "some wars are won with swords, others with quills and ravens”. He says to Tyrion that he is planning something and he wants to tell it to him but he won't.
Everyone starts behaving like Robb was out of the picture. Tyrion was wed to Sansa. Tywin even says "you let me worry about Robb". Roose Bolton starts calling himself King in the North. and even after Robb betrays Walder Frey, he is too polite to Robb and willing to forget everything, Catelyn is suspicious about this but doesn't say anything. Roose Bolton sends Jaime to Kings Landing and advising Brienne to forget about the Starks.
The whole books has an eerie feeling to it like something's going to happen just around the next chapter. This thing was not captured in the show.

The TV series made Robb and Catlyn bigger characters than they were in the books. As Mr. Benioff said, there was no Robb point of view in the books, and Catlyn didn't that many chapters compared to other characters. Also, the character Talisa was completely made up to replace Jeyne Westerling, who had about one line in the books. So the producers of the show obviosly tried to create more of an attachment to those characters, so viewers would be shocked and heartbroken when this happened. It obviously worked lol.
