Ottimo lavoro, semplice e funzionale. Ciao e complimenti..
Nicely done! Had to laugh at your canopy! You did your's identically to mine. the only difference is the color of the tarp! LOL The poles and tarp and cords cost me $12!
to tell the truth this project has served me well this year during the summer vacation on car.But it had few minor changes and very little adaptation , for example instead of the tarp i opted for a gazebo under wich i put my table and chairs and the car just parked a little behind the gazebo (3m x 3m) .I already had the gazebo for other uses.
This is a very cool project. I bought myself a Renault Duster and would like to do something similar for myself. Tell me, maybe you still have sizes? That would help me a lot. Greetings from Belarus :)
I store the chairs and table , a gazebo, a little tent and many other things , in the black plastic box over the roff of the car.In the future probably I'll make a video where I'll show the final setup in use and some other stuff
This is very good!! I would like to buy it, but I am very far in south america. So I will try to replicate something like this for my Duster. Any chance to share the measures of the main box? Also, the width of the mattress? Thanks a lot
Cool! How you release de spare tire? I have a brazilian version of Renault Duster and I have to release it from the trunk...Trying to understand how do you do with this chuckbox in the trunk.
you have to remove the chuckbox from the car simply lifting it and removing it , it is kept in place only by a ratchet strap on some rings in the floor of the car, so it's easy to remove and it's not very heavy, if empty of course. then you can normally remove the spare tire from the bottom of the car
Hola!
Hi, if you want a car just for camperize you would choose a bigger car like a minivan, for example a Dacia dokker so you can have more room for sleeping. But I prefer Dacia duster 4x4 because has very good off road ability (look at a lot of youtube videos on this argument) and I really need a good and not expensive off road car during my summer vacations cause I love adventurous traveling. And I also have a house on the Alps (mountain place) so I have to travel sometimes on difficult mountain roads with high inclination and forest road inside woods. And also heavy snow on winter time. Dacia duster is a little beast. I have used it for the last three years and I'm very happy with it. Also good in town. If I had to buy a new car probably I will buy it again
Hello, nice work. I have very similar system DIY that I made for my Chevrolet Cruze (wooden, plastic boxes, etc..) and it's great. I have 2 questions: 1.Where you keep your clothes when travelling? 2. How are you managed the ventilation during the night, especially when it's raining. I have this problem during the hot summer nights and we have to keep my windows open (1/2 open) but when it's raining I can't do that and if I close the windows it becomes very hot and stifling (soffocante)? We put mosquito net on the windows too. BTW nice touch with the tendalino posteriore, I have the same one! ;-)
I have made some improvement in the last times. I have used my setup for a vacation of 15 days to Croatia recently with great satisfaction . I found my system very good and comfortable for our needs (me and my wife) But to answer your qustions I put our clothes in two big sport bag (I don't know the exact name in english) during the driving they are simply on the ground of the car in front of the rear seats. Then over the box on the top of the car I put a lot of other equpment for examples: table, chairs, aluminum windows screens, poles and tarp, a tent and a gazebo that is veeeeery useful. I must make a video of the last final setup used to explain my changings. Practically my car is parked in front of the gazebo (3x3m opened) under the gazebo there is table, chairs and a little electric fridge. On the left of the car I put a two person trekking ultralight tent that I use for my trekkings, It's very useful cause during my holidays I put a lot of things inside it and I can only sleep inside the car during nights and travel without problem during daytime. But think that I came from a minimalistic trekker approach for what concerns clothing , iake with me few clothes and if I need i wash them. For the ventilation i bought two mosquito nets for the rear windows and I make one myself for the posterior door of the car . I keep rear windows hal opened like you and in the future i'll install two air deflector so i can keppe them opened even with rain If I'll found the time I'll make a video of these things thath show my last experiences and changes
In Croatia!!! Great I'm from Croatia (Rijeka), where have you been in Cro, did you like it? Thank you for your answer, my packing for the trip is a little bit complicated because we have 2 kids with us, and so much more stuff (we can't go minimalistic if you know what I mean ;-) ). So, we also use roof top box, and set our camping site in a similar way as you do. Please if you purchase this air deflectors please let me know how they are, and if you want exchange some other experiences this is my adress: dadilati@gmail.com
Hello , I've loved Croatia this summer, it was my first time, I've travelled all over the Kerso Island , it's very beautiful and I think that when I want to make an holiday by the sea I'll continue in Croatia visiting other parts and Island. It's very easy for us to reach Croatia cause we live in Veneto, nort east of Italy
Hello, it is so nice to hear that. Cres is a beautiful island and it has the best camping in the region - Slatina. I recommend visiting other parts of the coast because you can discover many great camping sites (from wild to urbanized ones). We have visited Veneto many times for skiing (Folgaria, Civetta, Sappada...), MTB (Cortina), camping (Lago di Garda, Verona), and it 's amazing, we love it!
Ciao
Yes it's true. Sorry about that unfortunately I've made the video on the way back from my house on the Alps. It's a route often frequented by bykers, especially on Sundays like that day.
To my mind the result is not very practical. Too many elements to assemble/disassemble and the resulting space is too constricted. Looks and feels like a moderately comfortable coffin rather than a camper. But I do not mean to criticize the project - the problem is the size of the Duster, which leaves too little space for comfortable camping. On the other hand, there are similar projects with Dacia Dokker, which look much more accomplished.
Of course with a bigger car would have been more spacious but years ago I've opted for the duster for a series of reasons. For example I needed a 4x4 car that could stand some light off road and road inclination on Italian alps where we have a vacation house. So the camperization project is depending on the car choice. For the practical aspect of the project in my opinion is very convenient. Is very easy to assemble in 10 minutes and occupy very little space closed during traveling. I've used for two summer holidays till now with great satisfaction in Croatia. For the space factor during sleep time is obvious that is impossible to compare with a bigger camper but this is not is real meaning. However the sleep space is very similar to a ultralight trekking tent i use for two persons. We come from years of the trekking experience on Italian Alps near where we live so space and weight compromises are absolutely common for us
Thanks for the response. I am thinking of buying a new car and my three choices are Dacia Duster, Dacia Dokker or new Citroen Berlingo. The Berlingo would be the most universal as a family van, but also by far the most expensive. Dokker would be cheapest, but also lowest quality. I think about sleeping inside a car as an emergency, not a regular situation during holiday.

What kind of mattress is that?
It is a foldable foam mattress buyed on Amazon
Ho avuto anche io la stessa idea. Solo mi serve un consiglio: come posso reperire quel materasso?
Since I own the exact same car I would like to rebuild your box. Could you send me the measurements please?
